In Shakespeare's play, Antony and Cleopatra, Cleopatra declares “It is my birth-day: I had thought to have held it poor: but, since my lord Is Antony again, I will be Cleopatra.” Indicating that she was relieved to be marking the occasion in a better way. Julius Ceasar, similarly declares in Act V, “This is my birth-day; as this very day was Cassius born.” In Pericles, the First Fisherman says “he hath a fair daughter, and to-morrow is her birth-day;” (Act II).  In Shakespeare's Hamlet, Marcellus talks about celebrating our Savior's birth with singing. Other references to the day of one's birth show up in Henry VI Part II the Earl of Suffolk talks about having a cunning old man calculate the day of his birth (Act IV), and later in that same act, Jack Cade talks about how his father was ignorant of both his birth and parentage. All of these mentions of birth days, their calculations, and their celebrations, has me wondering what exactly birthdays were like for Shakespeare's England. We always celebrate Shakespeare's birthday in style in around here, but would the bard have celebrated his own day of birth? The Police Minister is rejecting claims the last Government can be thanked for reduced victim numbers. The Government claims there are 28,000 fewer victims of violent crimes since the last election - exceeding its goal of 20,000. It admits the numbers are from a survey spanning 24 months - including the last months of the Labour's rule. But Minister Mark Mitchell says Labour only made it worse. "We've definitely seen the numbers - and the police numbers starting to reduce. We've got a very different approach around public safety, we're putting victims first and I think we're staring to see the results of that." Small Biz Matters: People, Policy, Purpose ~ Episode #259 Broadcast date: 25 Mar 2025 Host: Alexi Boyd, Small Business Advocate & Policy Advisor Guests: Hon Julie Collins MP, Minister for Small Business and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry The national small business strategy was released by the federal minister the Hon Julie Collins MP in Feb 2025. Treasury's media release described as a Strategy to support Australia's nearly 2.6 million small businesses by streamlining processes, reducing duplication, and ensuring small businesses are front and centre in policy decisions. It's signed by all of the state and territory Small business ministers who promised to work more collaboratively together. It was a rather quiet media release. Those that did take notice namely the professional associations like CPA Australia panned it as being a motherhood statement, lacking in detail and failing to solve any of the problems facing small businesses right now. If small businesses are so critical to government policy, why do we continue to see a lack of action and practical solutions? What's the purpose of having a framework that doesn't offer anything new for Small business nor guarantee a more stable and predictable environment in which they can operate? It's the middle of budget week there's a looming election. In her first long form interview on the national small business strategy, The honourable Julie Collins MP joins us today to unpack, explain and answer the critics' concerns. Tell us about the national small business strategy and why it's so unique compared with what the government has done previously supports more business? The positives in the report are that it acknowledges what's currently not working and the driver behind the strategy which is harmonising regulation across the states. It's also a set of principles on which future small business strategies can be built. Can you take that a step further and suggest what sort of regulations will be targeted as a priority? Will the tangible policy changes that this strategy will hopefully bring out be led by the federal government or by states? This report was described in the press release as ground breaking but has left a lot of the leaders in small business wanting. It speaks to motherhood statements without Indicating measurable outcomes. And there's plenty of things that Small business has been asking for over the years. Would you agree there was a missed opportunity here to offer more practical actions in the strategy? Small business moves fast and the environmental factors like the economy which small businesses must react to, even faster. Given the pace of small business evolution in Australia, why are the key decision makers, the small business ministers only meeting every 6 months? Would you consider a working group that includes peak bodies in small business part of this process to really advise on what's critical to small businesses in a more timely manner? The success of this strategy heavily relies on cohesive approach by all small business ministers in all states. Given that you are a Labor government do you believe that this will continue with changes of government and changes of ministers. A new report shines a light on the balance of power gangs hold in prisons - and how it impacts other inmates. A Corrections-commissioned study, chiefly authored by criminologist Jarrod Gilbert, shows gang-affiliated prisoners has doubled over the past decade. Corrections deputy director for men's prisons, Neil Beales, says there's been a noticeable increase in violent acts carried out by prisoners connected to the gangs. "What we are seeing is an increase in violence, particularly in some of the newer gangs...also, there's the resources and the money that they have to carry out some of their criminal activities." In Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona, Proteus says “Here's too small a pasture for such store of muttons.” Proteus is speaking metaphorically here, but the phrase refers to the relationship between animals raised in a field, and then processed for food to be stored away in a cache that can be drawed upon for consuming later. Stephano, in the Tempest, shares the location of his store of wine, saying “The whole butt, man: my cellar is in a rock by the sea-side where my wine is hid.” Indicating that a cellar was one place to store bottles of wine long term. Both of these references demonstrate for us that 16th-17th century society was familiar with the idea of storing fresh food for the winter, but it leaves us with the question of what exactly was a “store of muttons,” for example? I mean, Shakespeare and his contemporaries didn't have refrigeration, so what methods were used to keep fresh meat from going rancid? Colossians 1:17 – “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” John 8:58, when Jesus is standing before the Pharisees. He says, “before Abraham was, I WAS.” That's not how it went, right? No, He said, “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Present tense verb. Indicating the timelessness of His deity. Similar concept here, with Paul saying, “He is before all things.” A present tense statement. But Christ was not only before Abraham though. Here it says He's before “all things.” Including creation. Jesus Christ, being eternal, existed before there was any creation to speak of.  1:17 He is before all things: He existed in the beginning and he holds it all together by his power. The significance of that, of what's being conveyed here. Is the timelessness of Christ's deity John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. He was in the beginning with God.” Now, while the universe has a beginning, even the atheistic big bang people would believe that. Christ has always existed. While the universe is temporal. With a definite start date and with a definite, one day end date. Christ is not. He is eternal. Micah 5:2, it's a prophetic passage relating to Christ's first coming. Speaking of Him being from Bethlehem. It says, “His going forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.” Or Christ Himself would say in Revelation 22:13 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Not only though, did the Lord Jesus exist before there was any creation. We see here that it is in Him that all things consist.  Look at the second half of verse 17 – “and in Him all things hold together.” It means that the Lord Jesus is the sustainer of the universe, the Source of its perpetual motion. He maintains just the right amount of power and balance needed to ensure life's existence and continuity. Hebrews 1:3 – He “ upholds all things by the word of His power.” The only reason that this planet hasn't exploded or imploded or dissolved. The only reason our whole galaxy hasn't just been dumped into a black hole somewhere is because of Christ. He's upholding everything right now. He's keeping the planets spinning. He's keeping the stars burning. He's keeping the ocean waters from flooding. He's keeping the rain cycles going. He's keeping our hearts beating. He's providing brain activity to every single one of us here this morning. Not just to us, to those out in the world, who in foolishness, reject Him. He's even giving life and breath and movement and existence to those who strongly oppose and hate Him. He didn't wind up the universe like a clock and then walk away from it. Not at all. No, He continues to sustain it all. His power upholds and guides what His hands have formed. You know the old song, maybe it is still a current song . . . “He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.” That's true! Harry Ironside wrote this, he said: “It is His hand that holds the stars in their courses, directs the planets in their orbits, and controls the laws of the universe. In verse 18. We get to our third “He is” statement. Col 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. 1:18 He is the Head of the Body: Ephesians 1:22 And God hath put all things under His feet, and hath given Him to be the head over all things to the church,  Ephesians 5:23 for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and He is the savior of the body. There is a sudden shift in focus from all the things we've been considering in verses 15, 16 and 17. Paul goes from this discussion of Christ being the eternal image of the invisible God. And the firstborn of all creation. And the Creator of all things. And all things being created by Him and through Him and for Him. Now, it says, oh yeah, He's also the head of the body, the church. As this section of Colossians 1 is taking off. As he's powerfully assembling these thoughts, one after the other on top of each other. We would expect that Paul here would say something like, Christ is the supreme ruler of the universe. Or the king of the cosmos. But that's not what we see. Instead, what we see here, verse 18, “He is also the head of the body, the church.” Now, the references to “the body” here, “the church” here. Those are references to the universal church. That is, all around the world who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. from the Day of Pentecost, all the way up to the Rapture. This organism . . . this “assembly” of believers . . . which is expressed in local assemblies, like what we're doing today. That assembly, over which Christ is, look at the word there, He's “the head.” Now, a few key details and for many of us, reminders about this thing called the “church” over which Christ is the “head” . . .   First, the church is described in this way, in I Corinthians 12, all believers are baptized into it. We're baptized into this body, the church, by the Holy Spirit, the moment we believe in Christ. I Corinthians 12:13 says, “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, [placed into on body] whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.”   Second, another reminder about the church, is that it is an especially diverse body. It always has been. There is “neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, [and] there is neither male nor female.” Galatians 3:28   Third, the church is a mystery not made known to previous generations. In fact, drop down to Colossians 1:25, just a few verses down, it says, “Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” So, the church is a mystery, revealed in these times to the Gentiles.   Fourth, as we're seeing from our passage, verse 18, the Head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:22-23 says, “He put all things in subjection under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church.” Or Ephesians 5:23 says, “For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church.” So, the dominion then, the Lord Jesus Christ extends not only through the natural universe, but it extends to the spiritual realm. He is ruler, simultaneously of the cosmos, as He is the head of the church.   Now, how are we to take that, in terms of how this passage, verse 18, ties into what we've just looked at in verses 15-17? Where we see these sweeping claims about Christ's rulership over all creation. Is what he's saying now in verse 18, somehow lessen what has already been said? Is this making Christ smaller by localizing Him in the church? Not at all! If anything, what this passage does, verse 18, when we consider in conjunction with verses 15-17, is really expand the significance of the claims that are being made of Christ's role vis-à-vis the church. He is sovereign over creation, just as He is over the church. They go hand in hand. He is doubly preeminent. Preeminent over all creation. But also preeminent in the church. What that really ought to do for us, who are the church, is highlight the privilege that it is to be a part of God's family. To be a part of the church. To be a part of this family of redeemed people. To know that Christ is as intimately involved in ruling and governing the church. As He is in all of creation. The church is no “side project” for Jesus Christ. It's no “Plan B” for Jesus Christ. He loves the church . . . so much that He gave Himself for the church. He's building the church. He's protecting the church. He will pull the church out of the coming tribulation to come. He's going to return and reign with the church. See, the church is not a place. It's not an address. It's not a thing we do or a place we go. It's the body of Christ, with Christ as it's head. As His act of love for the church, He exercises control over it and direction over it. Conforming each one of its limbs and organs. That's you and me, into His image.   That brings us to our fourth “He is” statement, which comes at the end of verse And He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.” He is the beginning of the church That word that you see there, where it says, “He is the beginning”, it can actually be translated either “beginning” or originator, “rulership”, or “rule”. We see it here as “beginning.” We see it in Matthew 19:4 as “beginning” where it says, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female[?]” But the same word here, for “beginning” can also be translated “rule” or “ruler” in other places. So, which is it? Is Christ here, being described as the “beginning? Or is He being described as “ruling?” The answer is – “yes.” I think there's a trace of truth to both definitions. Christ. The preeminent Christ . . . not only created everything that we see around us in the cosmos . . . He also established His church . . . and in that sense, He's the beginning of both. But at the same time, He is ruler, as we've seen, both of the cosmos and of the church. He's the head of both realms.                This work of the Spirit began on the day of Pentecost (Acts 1:5; 2:1–2; 11:15–16). It is a special body in which there is “neither Jew nor Gentile” (Gal. 3:28) but a whole new creation of God (Eph. 2:15). The church is a “mystery … which was not made known to men in other generations” (Eph. 3:4–5; cf. Rom. 16:25–26; Col. 1:26).     and the firstborn from among the dead: Christ is the first person to die and be resurrected who will never die again Now, we see that Christ is “the firstborn from the dead.” It's a clear resurrection reference when it mentions “from the dead.” But what about that word “firstborn”? We've encountered it already in verse 15. But how about here? Is this a matter of laying out a timeline? Is this saying that Christ is the first person to have every been raised from the dead? Definitely not that. We know that Jesus was not the first to be raised from the dead. We know that Elijah raised the widow's son. We know that Jesus Himself raised Jairus's daughter. We know that Jesus Himself raised Lazarus. So then what does “firstborn from the dead” mean here? It means, “firstborn” here, is that, of all those who have been raised from the dead. . . the Lord Jesus Christ ranks first in importance among them. He was the first to rise in an immortal body. I Corinthians 15:20 says, “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.” His resurrection marked triumph over death, the way other resurrections didn't. Hebrews 2:15 says, “. . . through death he might render powerless him who had the power of death.” It's by virtue of Christ's resurrection, that He's been elevated to a rank and a position higher than anyone else who rose from the dead. Romans 1:4 says, he was “declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 2:9 says, “. . . God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.” He was the “Firstfruits” of those who die (1 Cor. 15:20) since, unlike others, He rose never to die again. [i] It's only through Christ's resurrection that the future resurrection of others is secured. John 5:28 says, “Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs who will hear His voice and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.” All of this is so that He might be known . . . Christ might be known and seen as preeminent in all things. “So that”  “He Himself will come to have first place in everything.” Christ is given first place over all Creation. He is preeminent. The same eternal Logos (John 1:1) who “became flesh” (John 1:14) and “humbled Himself” (Phil. 2:8) is now “exalted” by God the Father “to the highest place” and has been given “the name that is above every name” (Phil. 2:9).[ii]   What an answer that would have been to those who, in Paul's day, were trying go bring Christ down a few notches. To strip Him of His preeminence, as though they could. They promoted their heretical teachings there in Colossae. To those who have presented such a false Christ, a weakened Christ, a cheap Christ. Paul here says “no.” Christ is preeminent. He is the image of the invisible God. He is the firstborn of all Creation. He is the Creator of all things. All things were created by Him, through Him, and for Him. He's the sustainer of all things. He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning. He is the firstborn of the dead. He is, as we see at the end of verse 18 here, to have “first place” in everything.   We've considered here in these verses, the extent and the range of Christ's preeminence in the creation and in the church. Now we need to ask ourselves Does Christ have preeminence in My life? The question we have to ask ourselves, as we've taken these truths. Does Christ have preeminence in My life? Or are there other That are crowding Him out? As you leave here this morning. Ask yourself, sincerely.  Am I so stuck in my own little world, my own little fishbowl. My own little bubble, that I've failed to bow my knee, daily, to the One who created the world and sustains the world? Do I have such a slender view of the church, as being a place full of programs and rhythms and people I've been around my whole life . . . that I fail to acknowledge, daily, that it's the Lord Jesus Christ who governs and reigns in His church? Am I allowing . . . in what I read, or what I watch, or who I associate with . . . influences in my life that would take away from Christ's preeminence over my life? Or at least my recognition of His preeminence over my life? It surely is through His death and resurrection that we have been saved. We praise Him for that. But the Christian life doesn't end there. It really starts there, and it demands, once we acknowledge His death and resurrection, that we live in light of, His preeminence.   Mark 8:36 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?              John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? He can Save you if You ask Him based on His death, burial, and resurrection for your sins. And a New virus.   To Escape, Walk by Faith Not Sight If we walk by sight we will trust in men. If we walk by faith, we will trust in God no matter what we see, feel or hear. To have faith we need a clear conscience. If our heart condemn us not we have bold faith towards God and we receive from him. 1Jo.3:18-23 My Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth. 19 Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him: 20 because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God (So, if our conscience is clear, we can have faith.); 22 and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.   Beware of Condemnation One of the most important hindrances to faith, and one that trips up a lot of people, is condemnation. Even old-timers in the Lord will let condemnation sneak up on them sometimes. The Scripture says, 1Jn.3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God; 22 and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. You see, we can have boldness for whatever we want from God if we feel that God is on our side, but without that boldness, we can't even obey God. It becomes a vicious cycle of condemnation, and because you feel condemned, you can't have faith, and because you don't have faith, you fall deeper and deeper into sin. The cycle just gets worse and worse until the Lord, in His mercy, begins to show us again, as He has probably shown us many times before, that we are saved by grace. He shows us that He overlooks our sin, and that Rom.8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. So, confess your sins according to 1Jo.1:7-9 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is necessary so that you are cleansed of unrighteousness and in good standing with God. (So, faith is believing you have already received what you've hoped for. You believe you have what is not seen solely on the grounds that God says you have it.) What is Faith? … Heb.1:11 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen... (So, faith is believing you have already received what you've hoped for. You believe you have what is not seen solely on the grounds that God says you have it.) Mar.11:24-26 Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye receive (Greek: received or have received) them, and ye shall have them. Believing you have received regardless of what you see, feel, or hear. 2Co.5:7 For we walk by faith and not by sight. The righteous will LIVE by faith. Gal.3:11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God, is evident: for, The righteous shall live by faith. Walking by faith and not by sight is the supernatural method that overrules the natural.   The Supernatural Overrules the Natural Ellie McBride - 5/31/07(David's notes in red) I am seeing something happening among the brethren who are partakers of the teachings of Unleavened Bread Ministries which is demonstrated well by a dream I had on 8/06/06. ... I dreamed that a group of us were in a classroom setting. We were watching a blind man joyfully and confidently hit golf balls, one after another. After a little while a woman cried out in great excitement, “If a blind man can do it, so can I!” Immediately after the woman's exclamation the instructor beamed in on me persistently. I hesitantly said to her, “If a blind man can do it so can I?” (The blind are the ones who can do it. Having our spiritual eyes opened to the supernatural promises, we are blind to the natural failures an, symptoms, and curses.) The instructor then began to write aggressively on a poster-sized pad. I was seated close enough to her that I could read what she was writing (although I did not retain the memory of it upon awakening). After she finished writing she held the pad towards a man seated beside me so that he could read it over. After he read it, he nodded in approval, and then she held it up for the others. As she spoke she pointed and tapped on the pad with the writing instrument. She very pointedly said, “What's up is up and what's down is down”. Then she scanned the faces of the listeners. She appeared to be annoyed as if to say that we were not getting it. She went back to the pad and again, tapping on it adamantly and said, “What's up is up and what's down is down”. Again, she scanned the room looking for someone to understand and then I woke up. (I understand this is referring to the Word of God being heavenly and not of this world and which overcomes the laws of nature. (Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. Walking on water overcomes the natural law of gravity. Faith in the gospel overcomes the natural law of sin and death.) The Bible says if we, by faith, believe and accept the truth which is that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, then the laws of nature no longer apply to us and we are able to do what would naturally be impossible: Eph.2:6 ...and raised us up with Him, and made us to sit with Him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; And 1Co.15:48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. I am seeing that as many as are grasping this revelation, as the woman in the dream, that they are gaining the confidence to step out in faith and are experiencing miracles. And, these brethren are causing the rest of us to become bold as well, resulting in that domino effect David talked about once. I am very excited at what I am seeing and by faith declare that I am very much looking forward to bringing the kingdom, “as in heaven, so on earth”.) Demons can manipulate the physical realm including symptoms. This is illustrated very well in this dream below:   Fight as One, Under Jesus Sandy Shaw - 8/5/15 (David's notes in red) This is a parable of the brethren learning to fight together against the enemy and finding out that they have total authority through the Word of God. I had a dream where I was an observer of a big battlefield with a war going on. It was so noisy that I couldn't hear anyone talk; people had to shout. I heard cannons and grenades going off and a lot of rapid gunfire. Flaming arrows were being shot. (Indicating the fiery darts of the evil one fired into our thoughts that must be quenched...) And then I heard, “Man down! Man down!” Someone was shouting. (One wounded in battle.) I then looked to my left and saw a body on the ground. And running to the body from the right side was Greg. (The name Greg means, “Watchman”) I then noticed it was a UBM brother who was down. Greg put his hands on his chest, started praying in tongues and commanded him to get up. The brother started moaning and groaning and didn't open his eyes.   Then I heard another voice saying, “Get off me! I said, get off me!” (Recognizing spiritual attacks and realizing that authority must be taken over the enemy.) And I recognized that voice was another UBM brother. Greg then ran to him. He was holding his left leg. Greg put his hand on the injured leg and said, “Get up, brother; you are healed”. 1Pe.2:24 ... By whose stripes you WERE healed. Then they both ran back over to the other brother who was still on the ground and laid hands on him and prayed in the Spirit. Mat.18:19 Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven. More fiery arrows were trying to hit the brother on the ground because he was the target. Then Greg and the other brother commanded, “Off, off, off”, as they used their hands like shields to block the arrows. Eph.6:13 Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 2Co.10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh 4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds), 5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. The brother whose leg had been healed said to the brother still on the ground, “Come on, open your eyes so you can see what God is doing!” And he opened his eyes and got up. (We are to SEE Father has already given us the victory. 2Pe.1:2 Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that his divine power HATH granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue; 4 whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust. And exercising the authority of our God-given “divine nature” over the enemies of our soul and physical life.) The two UBM brothers then said, “Come on. Let's get out of here!” Greg jumped up and shouted, “No! We can't! We are in the midst of the storm!” (We can't run from the battle that God has ordained for us to come to the end of ourselves and conquer the enemy.) “We have the victory and we are victorious!” He shouted with everything he had. 2Co.2:14 But thanks be unto God, who always leadeth us in triumph in Christ (“Triumph” here means to celebrate the victory even before we see it to those who have faith in His Word), and maketh manifest through us the savor of his knowledge in every place. And Luk.10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. There was no shaking these guys. They knew that they knew that they knew. They needed each other working as one with their Commander-in-Chief. Then I woke up. (Listening to the Word of God, Jesus Christ.) Then, very softly in the background, I heard a song: Jesus never fails, Jesus never fails You might as well, get behind me, Satan You will not prevail, For, Jesus never fails Psa.91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust. 3 For he will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover thee with his pinions, And under his wings shalt thou take refuge: His truth is a shield and a buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, Nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 For the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, And ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, And see the reward of the wicked. 9 For thou, O Jehovah, art my refuge! Thou hast made the Most High thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent. 11 For he will give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the serpent shalt thou trample under foot. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, And show him my salvation.   God's Vaccine Looking at Psalm 91 we see there's a pretty good “vaccination” there, and I'd like to back-up a few verses. Psa.91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, Nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 For the pestilence that walketh in darkness (Some things you can't see, but you know they are dangerous. You may see the signs of them around you, and, of course, the devil takes full advantage of that by coming against your mind.), Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. So we are not to fear the dangers that we can see. Some of our biggest problems are the things that we see, but, of course, we also worry about the things we can't see. If you see somebody around you start sneezing or coughing, the first thing the devil throws at you is, “Uh oh! Now you're going to catch it, too!” Folks, what people die of is fear of the curse, from which Jesus has delivered us (Exodus 12; Galatians 3:13). We have a Passover Lamb that we've eaten. 1Co.5:7 Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our Passover also hath been sacrificed, [even] Christ. Our Lamb, Jesus Christ, has already been sacrificed. The Bible says, Psa.103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases. We don't die of diseases, of plagues, of curses; no, we die of unbelief and fear. The devil takes us out, many times, with the warfare against our mind and we lose our faith. Then we die because of fear, which is faith in the curse. We need to be 2Co.10:5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.   What is the Curse and Our Passover? Deuteronomy 28:15-68, is a fairly good summary of the curse, although much more is written throughout the Bible. Here we see that man's life, his body, his wife, his children, his property, his crops, his house, his country, his world, etc., are all under the curse because of sin. The curse is everything that ever happened contrary to man's well-being because of sin; it's everything negative, everything contrary to the Garden of Eden. When Adam sinned, he was driven from the Garden and into the curse, but Exodus 12 reveals a type and shadow of our Passover deliverance. 1Co.5:7 … For our Passover also hath been sacrificed, [even] Christ. The Passover lamb had the wonderful benefit of delivering from every plague. In Exodus 12, the Israelites were commanded to sacrifice and eat the whole lamb (verses 9,10). They were to eat its head, representing the Mind of Christ, its inwards, representing the desires and life of Christ, and its legs, representing the walk of Christ. Jesus said, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves (Joh.6:53). Which means, of course, we are partaking of the life of the flesh, which is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11). Jesus was the bread of God … which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world (Joh.6:33). He was also “the Word” made “flesh” (Joh.1:14). His flesh represented the Word of God and His blood represented the life in that Word. Lev.17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh atonement by reason of the life. And so, when we eat the Lamb, we are partaking of His Word and life. When we study this Word and It goes into our hearts, when we repent and we believe it and we stand upon it, we are consuming the Lamb. He was the Word made flesh and that, in turn, gives us our Passover. To this, the New Testament fully agrees. Gal.3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 that upon the Gentiles might come the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus…. Jesus bore the whole curse for us. We need to cooperate with Him so that we can manifest what was given us at the Cross.   It is finished! Paul said in Rom.1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel (Meaning, the “Good News”): for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…. Well then, why do so many of God's people not have any power? It's because they do not understand the Good News. The Good News is a powerful revelation and when we exercise faith in it, God imparts His power to us, to save in all things. Notice, the Gospel “is the power of God unto salvation.” The word “salvation” in the New Testament is generally the Greek noun “soteria” and the verb of that is “sozo”. It actually has a wonderful meaning of deliverance, salvation, preservation, healing and provision. God has already provided our every need, according to Scripture. Php.4:19 And my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Many people limit salvation to such a very narrow band of revelation, but salvation is very, very big. This word soteria, which is generally translated as “salvation,” is very broad and as we study that, we'll see that the Good News, the Gospel, provides us everything we need. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. We once asked a local man, who was Greek, what soteria meant to him and he said, “It means, all of my needs supplied, like a little baby.” I've never forgotten that and as I researched the Scriptures, I found out that's exactly what it means – “all of our needs supplied.” But it's “all of our needs supplied” to the believers. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes, not necessarily to what we loosely call “Christians,” but to the believers. In the New Testament, the people who walk by faith are the ones who are justified because “counted righteous” means “justified.” Rom.1:17 For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous shall live from faith. The literal translation there is “from faith” and not “by faith.” God puts a high premium on people who believe and act upon His Word. Jas.2:17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. 18 Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from [thy] works, and I by my works will show thee [my] faith. People who act on what the Word says will see results. They will receive power from God Heb.10:38 But my righteous one shall live from faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition.... “Perdition” is “destruction” and everyone who shrinks back from the walk of faith will ultimately be destroyed by the curse. Heb.11:1 Now faith is assurance of [things] hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. Some translations say, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for.” So, we give God the substance which is believing something that is not seen. Jesus taught us this in Mar.11:24 Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall have them. Health and healing are part of “all things” here. Therefore, we must believe we have already received healing or health which is what the Bible says in, 1Pe.2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. So, we see in this verse God's vaccine. He gave it to you 2000 years ago and He will not take it back. You can give it up by not walking by faith, but He won't take it back. Heb.11:6 ... without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing [unto him]; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that seek after him. Also, Jesus said, Mat.9:29 ... According to your faith be it done unto you, and Mat.8:13 ... As thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. He constantly made faith the requirement. We, like God, learn to Rom.4:17 ... calleth the things that are not, as though they were, meaning our healing is past tense. And our faith has the power to create all of our needs. Eph.2:8 For by grace have ye been saved through faith.... Some versions say, “are you saved,” but the numeric pattern and the Nestle-Aland text, which is comprised of the three ancient manuscripts, say, “have you been saved” because salvation was accomplished at the cross. The word “saved” here is again the word sozo and it's the verb of the noun soteria, which covers everything. It covers all of your needs supplied, just like for a baby, and all your needs were supplied at the cross. Eph.2:8 For by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; 9 not of works, that no man should glory. There it is. Man's works are not going to be preserved through this time. Your works will ultimately fail you. Mar.11:24 Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them.... Here it is again. “By grace have ye been saved.” Notice what he's saying: “Believe that ye have received them.” It's past tense. The numeric pattern proves that it's past tense and both the Nestle-Aland and Textus Receptus say that the Greek word is “received.” Note that you are supposed to believe you have received it in the physical realm. This rails against our natural reasoning and this is because we are called to be sons of God and not sons of men. So we have to cast down fleshly thoughts. 2Co.10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We cast down these vain imaginations, we begin to speak in agreement with the fact we have received, we act as if we have received, we imagine we have received. If we believe that we were healed, then how are we going to react to the bad news that we hear and see all around us? Gal.3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law.... The curse of the Law is everything that happened contrary to man's well-being because he was in rebellion against God's law as we read it in Deuteronomy 28. Gal.3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (Notice, once again, we have already been delivered from the curse, because it was put on Jesus.); for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 that upon the Gentiles might come the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. So, we believe that Jesus bore the curse so that we can have the blessing. Glory be to God! 2Pe.1:3 Seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue. (This knowledge tells us we have already been given His life which is Zoe' meaning God's life. You have to know this knowledge to have God's life. How do you know what to exercise faith in without knowledge? You must know what has been given to you so that you know how to exercise faith. It's so that you can know how to believe God. Can you practice seeing that God has already given to you everything you need? Jesus said when He was on the cross, Joh.19:30 It is finished. Glory be to God, folks! It is finished! He conquered everything. He provided for all our needs. Now you know why Paul said, “And my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” He has already provided it.   Jesus Gave True Believers Authority Over the Devil and the Curse We must resist the devil and tell him, “NO!” Jas.4:7 Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Let's look at what Jesus said to His disciples when He sent them out, just before they were about to “go solo” because He was about to go home. Mat.28:18 And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Obviously, Jesus wasn't telling those particular disciples that He was going to be with them that long, right? He was talking about all disciples who go forth at His bidding and who teach others to “observe all things” that He told the first disciples. The word “observe” in this text means “to hold fast to,” or “to keep.” We haven't done that, have we? Over the last 2,000 years, we have slid about as far as we can slide away from what was written in the Gospels, the Book of Acts and the rest of the New Testament. Yet, now the Lord is bringing His people back to a time when His benefits are going to be known in the earth once more, miraculously and powerfully, but we need to hold fast to the commands that He gave to the first disciples. Jud.3 Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, I was constrained to write unto you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints. We need to contend “for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” One of those things that He commanded His first disciples, which was passed on to us, is Mar.16:17 And these signs shall accompany them that believe: in my name shall they cast out demons…. Who did He say that to? He said that to the disciples, so that they would recognize real disciples. Mar.16:14 And afterward he was manifested unto the eleven themselves as they sat at meat; and he upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them that had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. They didn't get to do that, did they? Once again, He was obviously talking to more than just the first disciples; He was speaking to us. Mar.16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned. 17 And these signs shall accompany them that believe: in my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So, we see that He taught them how to identify the people who really believed what the disciples said when they were passing on the commandments that Jesus gave unto them. Do you understand that we are not to receive anything but the commandments that Jesus gave unto the first disciples? The church has not kept the Word of God. They have not held fast to the commands that were given to the first disciples. Luk.10:16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me. Well, I tell you, we have rejected them. We have rejected their word and we have rejected their commands and now we see the trouble that's come of it. The church has not brought forth any deliverance in the earth, as Isaiah 26:18 says, and there has been a great falling away. Luk.10:17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name. They were happy to get this revelation and a lot of people are going to be happy to get this revelation once again, as if it's been hidden. Well, it's been right there all along. Get in your Bible and read it. Make sure that you're not wasting your time. Find out what a real disciple is before you get stuck in some dead church. They were just overjoyed to see that the demons had to obey them. Luk.10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you (So we can see that when He talks about serpents and scorpions, He's talking about demon spirits.); but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. He gave them this authority and He commanded them to go out and give this authority to others. He commanded them to teach the disciples to observe, or to hold fast to, everything that He spoke to them. And that's what we're doing today. We have no authority to do anything else but to share with the disciples what the Lord has given us as benefits and as an inheritance. Praise be to God for that!   We Must Act on Our Faith A confirmation of a person's faith is when they are willing to suffer scorn, willing to suffer indignities from others because they believe the Word of God enough to speak it. The Bible says all that's necessary is to believe with our heart and confess with our mouth in Rom.10:9. And Rom.10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach. You're not very far from a healing, or a deliverance, or anything you need, and that's what Paul is telling you right here. In the previous text, he tells you, Rom.10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith saith thus, Say not in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down:) 7 or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (That is, to bring Christ up from the dead.) “Hey, do you have to go up to Heaven to get it? Does Christ have to come down for you to get it? No! Look! The word is very, very nigh you. It's in your mouth and in your heart. Rom.10:8 But what saith it? This week, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will address the United States Congress for an unprecedented fourth time. According to the Wall Street Journal, presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris will skip Netanyahu's address, but will meet with the Prime Minister – who is wanted on war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court – and is expected to tell him that “it is time for the war to end” and to stop the “suffering of Palestinian civilians.” Harris is expected to take a new foreign policy approach, likely doing away with key Biden administration figures like Jake Sullivan, Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin. Jim Zogby, founder of the Arab American Institute, has stated that Harris has shown “far greater empathy for Palestinians than Biden.”2. With Harris taking center stage, the Intercept's Prem Thakker reports that Representative Rashida Tlaib has released a statement saying “I welcome the opportunity to engage Vice President Harris as my team and I work hard to inspire our Democratic base...They want to see a permanent ceasefire and an end to the funding of genocide in Gaza…They want us to fight against corporate greed that wants to eliminate unions and keep our families in the cycle of poverty. I am eager to speak to Vice President Harris about all of these issues and more.” Unlike other prominent progressive lawmakers – such as Bernie Sanders and AOC – Tlaib did not back Biden against the campaign to have him step aside as the Democratic nominee, and crucially, appears to be using whatever leverage she has to demand Harris push vigorously for a ceasefire in Gaza.3. The New York Times reports several major unions – including the The American Postal Workers Union, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, the Service Employees International Union, United Auto Workers, United Electrical Workers, and the National Education Association, the largest union in the U.S. – have sent a letter to the Biden Administration demanding they “halt all military aid to Israel.” This letter emphasizes that “it is clear that the Israeli government will continue …until it is forced to stop,” and that “Stopping US military aid to Israel is the quickest and most sure way to do so.” APWU President Mark Dimondstein said in a statement “Our unions are hearing the cries of humanity as this vicious war continues…Working people and our unions are horrified that our tax dollars are financing this ongoing tragedy.”4. Reuters reports that in talks hosted in China this week, “Palestinian rivals including Hamas and Fatah agreed to form a unity government.” Al Maydeen reports “The meetings saw the participation of 14 Palestinian factions, including Fatah, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.” The so-called Beijing Declaration promises to “end the Palestinian national division [and] unify national efforts to confront…[Israeli] aggression and stop the genocide.” Implementation of this agreement will be monitored by Egypt, Algeria, China, and Russia.5. In the United Kingdom, “Five climate activists who planned a protest to cause gridlock and block traffic over four days on a major highway circling London were sentenced…to as much as five years in prison,” per ABC. Just Stop Oil, the group planning the protest, “called the prison terms ‘an obscene perversion of justice... for nothing more than attending a Zoom call.'” Protesting this decision, many prominent climate activists – ranging from Independent MP Jeremy Corbyn to Rowan Williams, Former Archbishop of Canterbury to musician Brian Eno – have signed a letter calling this “one of the greatest injustices in a British court in modern history…making a mockery of the right to a fair trial.” This letter also notes that these sentences are “higher than those given to many who commit serious sexual assault.” This letter also cites the United Nations special rapporteur on environmental defenders, who called this “a dark day for peaceful environmental protest, the protection of environmental defenders and indeed anyone concerned with the exercise of their fundamental freedoms in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”6. In more climate related news, in New York City landlords are required to provide heat for tenants in the winter. Yet, there is no equivalent rule for landlords to provide air conditioning for tenants during the increasingly blistering summers. Now, Gothamist reports New York City Councilmember Lincoln Restler of Brooklyn plans to introduce a bill “requiring [landlords] to ensure tenants can cool their homes to at least 78 degrees when it is 82 degrees or warmer during the summer.” Restler is quoted saying “Heat is the number one climate or weather-related killer – not just nationally, but right here in New York City…We've already suffered three awful heat waves this summer. Can you imagine what it's like to try to manage it without air conditioning or any cooling device in your apartment?” This move comes amid other attempts to legislate heat protections as temperatures continue to rise.7. In an infuriating example of corporate greed, the Guardian reports that pharmaceutical giant Gilead is charging outrageous prices for a new drug described as “the closest we have ever been to an HIV vaccine.” According to this report, “Lenacapavir, sold as Sunlenca…currently costs $42,250 for the first year…[yet] In a study…experts calculated that the minimum price for mass production of a generic version…allowing for 30% profit, was $40 a year.” This report continues “Given by injection every six months, lenacapavir can prevent infection and suppress HIV in people who are already infected…In a trial, the drug offered 100% protection to more than 5,000 women in South Africa and Uganda.”8. In a welcome check against corporate greed, the Federal Communications Commission has “voted to end exorbitant phone and video call rates that have burdened incarcerated people and their families fordecades.” The new rules will cap the cost of a 15-minute phone call at 90 cents for large jails and $1.35 for small ones. As of now, a 15-minute phone call can cost as much as $11.35 in a large jail and over $12 in a small one. The new rules also bar added fees.9. In more positive regulatory news, the Federal Trade Commission has “issued orders to eight companies offering surveillance pricing products and services that incorporate data about consumers' characteristics and behavior. The orders seek information about the potential impact these practices have on privacy, competition, and consumer protection.” The companies in question include Mastercard, JPMorgan Chase, and perennial corporate malefactor, McKinsey. Indicating the universality of this move, no more than 3 members of the FTC can be of the same party yet the Commission voted 5-0 to issue these orders.10. Finally, in some local news, NBC4 Washington reports that “Former President Donald Trump has threatened a federal takeover of Washington, D.C., if he wins a second term in November.” Leaving aside the ever-present bluster and bombast that accompany such Trump pronouncements, NBC4 makes the crucial point that because D.C. lacks statehood “The president can take over the police department and many of the powers the mayor and D.C. Council have.” In light of this credible threat, it is more critical than ever that Congress act on D.C. Imagine connecting to your trusted wifi network only to find out later that an attacker intercepted your traffic. Wifi is pretty important technology. Allows us to connect our devices to the internet wirelessly. We rely on different. Coffee shops, vendor locations to connect to the internet and maybe in some areas where we are. Sell services. And to reliable, we'll use local wifi. I often have to use target wifi because the target in my area is in a cellular dead zone. So it's pretty crucial for. Day-to-day lives. The SSI de confusion attack impacts all operating systems and wifi clients, including home and mesh networks using WEP w P a 3 8 [00:02:00] 0 2 11 X E a P and a M P E protocols. That's a lot of jargon for all the different security standards that come with wifi. The method involves downgrading victims to a less secure network by spoofing a trusted network name or SSI D so attackers can intercept to their traffic to carry out further attacks. Now the SSI D stands for service set identifier, essentially the name of a wifi network. It helps devices recognize and connect to the correct network. However, the wifi standard doesn't require the SSI D to always be authenticated, which is where the vulnerability comes in. Attackers can deceive a client into connecting to an untrusted wifi network instead of the intended one by staging an adversary in the middle or AIT M attack. For example. When the victim wants to connect to a network named trusted net. The attacker tricks it into connecting to a network called wrong net. With similar credentials. The victim's device shows it's [00:03:00] connected to trusted net while it's actually connected to wrong net. And AIT M attack the adversary in the middle. Is where an attacker secretly intercepts and possibly alters the communications between two parties who believe they are directly communicating with each other. This allows the attacker to eavesdrop on or manipulate the communication. A successful SSI, D confusion attack can also disable any VPN that automatically turns off on trusted networks. Exposing the victims, traffic. The prerequisite for pulling off this attack include the victim, wanting to connect to a trusted wifi network. The presence of a rogue network with the same authentication credentials and the attacker being within range to perform the AETM attack. To counter SSI D confusion proposed mitigations include updating the 8 0 2 11 wifi standard to incorporate the SSI D as part of the four way handshake when connecting to product protected networks. Improvements to beacon protection can also help beacons or management frames that a wireless access point [00:04:00] transmits to announce its presence and capabilities. Networks can avoid this attack by not reusing credentials across SSI, DS. And by using unique passwords. The main takeaways from this are to really just ensure that your wifi network has a unique SSI. D again, that's the network name? That is not commonly used by default configurations or routers. So basically just avoid using the generic names like home net gear, LyncSys bell connect, whatever. Your ISP might utilize. And then of course, go in and change those passwords and use something unique for your networks. Additionally always make sure that your devices are up to date. Regularly patch, any routers or wifi access points that you have within your systems, along with your personal devices, anything that is going to be connecting to wifi? Now your exposure for home network is probably a bit more limited, but. As you're out roaming and going to different areas. One of the things to keep in mind is maybe make sure that your phone has auto connect turned off for any wifi. That is outside of your [00:05:00] house or place of business. This way, it gives you an opportunity to actually look at the network and verify its authenticity. And of course, double check those SSI D names. That's a big one with a lot of these. I had actually came across my first Rogue wifi. Out in the wild. A couple months back, I was traveling, so I wasn't even in my home. State. And I went to a coffee shop that I was familiar with. And sat down to get some work done. Open on my laptop and starting looking at the wifi networks. And I noticed, of course, there's the coffee shop that I was at. And it was password protected. And then there was. Another access point for a store that was right next, next door. And it had the name in the SSI D spelled correctly. Then there was another access point. For the same store, however. The eye in the store, his name was replaced with an exclamation mark, mark. And it was the [00:06:00] strongest Wi-Fi. Access point available and it did not have a password. Safe to assume that was the rogue access point. Unfortunately, I couldn't get in touch with anybody at the store, but. Just It exists out there and you do need to be vigilant, pay attention to those wifi names. In addition to that, if you are connecting to wifi, If you have the capabilities you use a VPN, make sure that is set up and running. And then another step is if you're ever in a public location using wifi and a website that you're visiting pops up with that certificate error. That you're probably familiar with. Do not click through it. That is the biggest red flag. When you're in a public area using someone else's wifi, not immediately means that they could be intercepting your traffic. And other news law enforcement agencies, including the us FBI and [00:07:00] international partners have seized control of a breach forums platform for the second time in a year, replacing the website with a seizure banner and the collaborative effort involved authorities from Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK, the us and Ukraine. Indicating a global response to cyber crime. Following the arrest of the previous administrator Connor, Brian Fitzpatrick. Bafflement took over. As the forums administrator with the FBI now controlling the associated telegram channel as well. The FBI is actively seeking information on cyber criminal activities related to breech forums, encouraging individuals to report any relevant details to assist in ongoing investigations. While it remains unclear whether Baffin Mont and shiny hunters, another administrator have been arrested the seizure banner with features their profile pictures with a depiction of them behind bars. Breech forum served as a marketplace for cybercriminals to engage in illicit activities, such as trading stolen data access devices. [00:08:00] Identification means hacking tools, breach database, and other illegal services. The history of breach forums includes its emergence in 2022. After the takedown of raid forums. Followed by a shutdown in 2023 and a subsequent resurgence under new management before the recent law enforcement intervention. The hacking group, LinkedIn North Korea has launched a new social engineering attack using fake Facebook accounts to target individuals via messenger and distribute malware. The attack involves creating a Facebook account, impersonating a public official in the north Korean human rights field to deceive activists in the north Korean human rights and anti north Korean sectors. Unlike traditional spear fishing through emails. This campaign uses Facebook messenger to trick targets and to opening. Seemingly private documents hosted on one drive disguised as Microsoft common console documents. The decoy [00:09:00] docs appear as essays or content related to trilateral summit between Japan, South Korea in the U S potentially indicating a focus on targeting specific individuals in Japan and South Korea. By using uncommon MSC files and disguising them as innocuous word files come Suki aims to evade detection and increase the chances of infecting victims. Once malicious documents are opened. Victims who launched the MSC file are and agree to open it. Using Microsoft management console are shown a console screen containing a word document that triggers the attack sequence. Establishing a connection with an adversary controlled server to exfiltrate information. The command and control server can harvest IP addresses, user agent strings, timestamp info, and deliver additional payloads aligning with prior Kim Suki activities, such as the distribution of recon shark malware. South Korean cybersecurity company, Jenny ans highlighted the rise of personalized [00:10:00] social media attacks, emphasizing the importance of early detection to mitigate the impact of such targeted threats. That may go undetected by traditional security monitoring. For those of you tech enthusiasts and cybersecurity professionals out there. I think one of the things that was brought up a lot in my early studies anyways, was how secure and reliable Linux is. And. Not a lot of malware was targeting Linux. And if you didn't already figure it out, that is. Far from the truth. And especially dating back to 2009 to 2011. There was a hidden bank door within the Linux operating system that went undetected for years. This story from ARS Technica discusses, some malware that was affecting over 400,000 Linux systems. Between 2009 and 2011, the central hub for [00:11:00] Linux development. colonel.org was infiltrated. The breach compromise, encrypted passwords of over 550 users, enabling attackers to control the servers and carry out malicious activity. Linux is an open source operating system that powers everything from servers to smartphones. It's critical for maintaining the backbone of the internet and many other digital services. The attackers targeted the Etsy shadow files. Which store encrypted passwords. By cracking these encrypted passwords, they accessed and controlled the servers, sending spam and conducting other nefarious activities. The NC shadow file store encrypted passwords for user accounts. If these are compromised, attackers can potentially decrypt the passwords and gain on authorized access to systems. The malware dubbed Ebery. Created a backdoor in open SSH, allowing remote access without valid passwords. This infection spread to 25,000 servers in less than two years. [00:12:00] Highlighting the malware's extensive reach and impact. Open SSH is a suite of secure networking utilities based on secure shell SSH protocol. It's used to secure remote connections. By compromising open SSH, the attackers could intercept credentials and spread the infection to other systems. The malware was sophisticated, installing root kits, like phalanx and backdoors, , which were hard to detect. These tools allowed the attackers to maintain control and avoid detection by traditional security measures. Rootkits are collections of software tools that enable unauthorized access to a computer or network often hiding their presence or the presence of other malware in general, refers to a malicious software designed to disrupt damage or gain unauthorized access to computer systems for two years, the attackers quietly harvested passwords and controlled key servers within the Linux development network. Despite the severity of this breach, the full extent wasn't known until much later. In 2014, Essent researchers [00:13:00] discovered that the Avery malware had a far reaching impact, infecting not only Linux, but also free BSD, open BSD Sonoma, west servers, and even one Mac. The malware's ability to spread and its continuous evolution over the years, underscore is potency. The Linux community renowned for its security and transparency faced a significant challenge. The infection of colonel.org demonstrated that even the most secure systems are not immune to sophisticated cyber threats. The Avery malware has proven to be a formidable adversary, exploiting weaknesses and systems that many believe to be secure as we move forward. It's crucial for both individuals and organizations to remain aware of the evolving landscape of cyber security threats and to implement robust security measures to protect their digital assets. I know you all are surprised and you've never heard such an outrageous claim before, but it's true. And now with the use of large language models like OpenAI, they can do a whole lot of damage, particularly in the realm of disinformation and divisive talk, so trying to get us to turn against each other. And they can do this automatically, using code, to grab articles from Reputable news sources and repost them by injecting AI generated content to try to sway the results of the election. So coming to you from recorded future, CopyCop utilizes generative AI to plagiarize and translate content from mainstream media outlets to create biased narratives, targeting specific audiences in the United States, the UK, and France, focusing on divisive domestic issues and supporting pro Russian viewpoints. The network is connected to disinformation outlet DC Weekly and Russian state sponsored influence actors, amplifying content to undermine Western policies and create distrust between these governments. The network has expanded to operate a self hosted video sharing platform and a forum named Exposedum. Indicating growing ambitions AI generated content with truly human produced content. Making it even harder to spot the fake stuff. So there is plenty of purely AI generated content out there. But that's not the most effective way to spread disinformation. The most effective way to spread disinformation is to take factual articles written by legitimate sources and change them a little bit. To help spread the message you want to spread so Russia is doing just that they're taking things that you're reading and you're like Oh, yeah, that's true. I know that to be true. I know that to be true That makes sense And then you're more likely to believe the little lies they slip in there And so if you've listened to this podcast before you know my take on this but look at everything Skeptically every piece of information you read try to think about it in a way that it could be lying to you You don't necessarily have to believe that it's lying to you, but look at it as if it was, and what damage that would cause. Who would benefit from that lie? And at the very least, How could this be an over exaggeration of the truth? And hey, once you master that skill, give me a call. We'll probably be best friends. That's I'm working on that really hard, but it will only go to benefit you pretty much everywhere in your life, except for around the table at Thanksgiving, your parents and your aunts and uncles are going to hate you for questioning everything they say, so for pretty much this whole week, AT& T is experiencing delays in delivering emails from Microsoft 365. which is Microsoft's cloud service, due to a surge in spam originating from Microsoft's So customers have reported being unable to receive emails from Microsoft 365 addresses, specifically impacting those trying to email at att. com, at sbcglobal. net, or at bellsouth. com. AT& T servers were refusing connections from Microsoft 365 because of a high volume of spam emails coming from their servers. So all that means is that someone who is using Microsoft's cloud service is sending out tons of spam email to AT& T. Thus, AT& T has blocked everything from Microsoft 365. Which is a pretty big detriment to those who use AT& T for their email. because now they can't send emails or receive emails from anyone in Microsoft 365 cloud. Now, Microsoft has addressed this with plans to combat spam by implementing a daily exchange online bulk email limit of 2, 000 external recipients, but that's not starting until January of 2025. And I'm sure that plan is going to have to be tweaked because the company that I work for has more than 2, 000 email recipients. And like, how is that going to be affected? Maybe I guess you could email internal, but not external. I'm not sure. That's a pretty low number for people to email each day. But at the same time, I am also really surprised to see that Microsoft doesn't have any external like sending limits, rate limits for its users that should at least be set at a threshold that doesn't shut down all of AT& T, maybe a little more than 2000, but probably less than what it's doing now. But, the point of the story is that apparently spam can DDoS your email service, and if you use AT& T, specifically one of those three domains, that might explain why you've been missing emails or unable to send to certain individuals. And finally, IoT devices are coming under more and more scrutiny as they tend to be the gateway for spam. different types of attacks. They're really easy to attack generally because they're cheap and they're unsupported. So whatever connectivity devices they have tend to become vulnerable and then they're never patched. So attackers can google what device they see in your network. And Google will literally return what they can do to infiltrate that device. And then once an attacker has infiltrated an IoT device, and in case you're not familiar with what IoT is, it stands for Internet of Things, and it's just the devices you get that are pretty cheap that connect to the internet. So if you have any children's Wi Fi It can range from those all the way to dishwashers, to fridges, to cameras, remote control devices, etc. That's what's called IoT. And once an attacker gets into an IoT, that IoT is in your network, and it can be used to pivot to other more critical assets, like your main computer, or your server that hosts all your documents, medical documents, etc. It's about time IOT came under the scrutiny. And the article linked in the show notes by HelpNet Security outlines some historical timelines of how IOT devices are being more secured, such as in 2022, NIST surveyed the state of IOT security and made a series of recommendations. But most recently, the European Union has drafted what's called the Cyber Resiliency Act and is set to begin rolling out in 2025. which will create new cybersecurity requirements to sell a device in the single market. And a lot of devices that are sold in the European Union are also sold around the world, the United States, etc. So it's going to have to abide by these regulations. Now, I wish that the country I resided in would start making these types of regulations, but at least we can piggyback off of the great things that they're doing for data security in the European Union.
