Jeff Cummins is a legend in not just the world of Doctor Who art, but in music too. Jeff today tells us about his incredible career, which has seen him paint iconic covers for Target books like The Horror of Fang Rock and The Talons of Weng-Chiang, as well as The Three Doctors reprint, to New Adventures, and working for a certain Mr Paul McCartney. Just this once, Leela … everybody dies! Horror of Fang Rock may be a kind of bottle episode (well, a tall bottle with a big electric light on top), but no Doctor Who story has a higher percentage of guest cast killed. A classic Doctor Who story which has been chosen by a key figure in the show's animantion range - Martin Geraghty. What will Martin draw inspiration from to celebrate about this moody, spooky, sometimes darkly funny story? Anyway, this is a good one - a terrific story that host Toby Hadoke has a lot of fun revisiting. And as ever the Omnibus has new opening and closing sections - probably only about 2% of the entire running time but at least it shows these aren't just cobbled together and provides something new if you listened to the episodic version. #doctorwhocomedian #tobyhadoke #doctorwhofacts #positivedoctorwho #classicdoctorwho Please support these podcasts on Patreon, where you will get advance releases, exclusive content (including a patron-only podcast - Far Too Much Information), regular AMAs and more. In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast.... Horror of Fang Rock - Review This episode Phil and Scott settled down to watch the new and shiny version of Horror of Fang Rock from the recent Season 15 blu-ray collection. New effects, screaming ladies and plenty of fog is the order of the day with Tom Baker and Louise Jameson on fine form. They also go through the number of changes made to the special effects (spoilers ahoy!) and Phil takes Scott through a quick potted history of producer Graham Williams and touches upon how awkward Tom Baker was towards him. But what's this? The BBC also release a new trailer for the upcoming series of Doctor Who, along with all 8 episode titles. Of course, the lads talk about that as well. This week is our fourth and final podcast looking at the making of the new content for the Season 15 blu-ray. Dave's back, and he and Kenny discuss the covers of the Target novelisations - and rank them - before they're joined by this week's guests. Dr Matthew Sweet pops in to talk about the In Conversation chats (yes, we know - there's something meta about interviewing the interviewer) and we conclude our look at the special features with Paul Scoones, telling us how he works on the information text - in this case, for The Horror of Fang Rock. Addendum: In this episode, we state that it was Richard Bignell who learned that it was April Walker who was originally cast as Sarah Jane Smith - it wasn't, it was David Brunt. Our apologies to David for this error. (This week's guest theme - What if Kraftwerk did a Doctor Who Theme?, by George C Music)

Not long to go now, until Season 15 starts arriving through our letterboxes, and on shelves in shops. Steevie and Kenny continue their look at the stories in this series, as they discuss Underworld and The Invasion of Time, with the thoughts of Tom and John via the Space-Time Telegraph. This week, our guests are documentary producer Chris Chapman, discussing the Making of Horror of Fang Rock, as well as his Graham Williams documentary, and Toby Hadoke, who features in the making of feature, as well as chatting with Tom Baker on episode commentaries, and goes Behind the Sofa too!
It's our 200th episode! How did that happen? A year ago, we were stuck on 110 and had been for six or more months! We celebrate with a countdown - in four weeks, the next Doctor Who blu-ray collection release will be available: Season 15. Kenny and Steevie discuss the stories, with Peter Crocker joining to chat about the picture restoration, and Christopher Thompson chats about his work on the new effects for Horror of Fang Rock and also the amazing box set trailer. Plus! Dave, Tom and John all join in to share some of their thoughts on the series, and the stories, too. (This episode's guest theme: Peter Miles) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVVfE52ZUbU

We kick off a brave new era as Graham Williams takes the reins of the show with the Season 15 opener, Horror of Fang Rock. This story features our only ever sighting of a Rutan – the mortal enemy of the Sontarans. It also features… rich people? Ugh. Ok, whatever, guys. Join us as we discuss Leela's bloodlust, Terrance Dicks' love of the green, whether this story suffered from overspending at the end of the previous season, the absolutely terrible rich people that find their way into this story (and if they're really necessary), and the disappointing lack of a “Best of Fang Rock” story from Big Finish! Anthony finds himself longing for the coming of the revolution, while Reilly finds himself getting very upset about some news regarding the end of the season. Doctor Who Horror of Fang Rock Part 4
Doctor Who Horror Of Fang Rock Part 3
Doctor Who Horror Of Fang Rock Part 2
Doctor Who Horrof Of Fang Rock Part 1
On a dark and stormy night, in a cold and creepy lighthouse a sinister force of legend descends violently upon the unsuspecting humans.
"Aye though we hunted high and low, and hunted everywhere..." It's a pretty grim conclusion to this lighthouse saga, but there is still plenty opt enjoy. Will guest Martin Geraghty and host Toby Hadoke, who have been pretty much on the same wavelength, match again this time around, or will they be as different as Leela's eyes are by the story's conclusion?
Ooh host Toby Hadoke has really enjoyed this one. The bodies start piling up and the story gets a bit like The Thing (having already got a bit like The Fog) and the characters are all getting their moments to shine. And surely, surely, there's only one choice for the best thing in this episode? It's one of the best examples of its kind....
Things are getting foggier outside the lighthouse, and inside its getting busier and testier and, in places, funnier. Tom Baker is at the height of his powers, even if he hates the director and is being mean to his co-star, whilst the writer could do this programme brilliantly in his sleep and the director is a veteran sci-fi wrangler. Add to that a pitch perfect guest cast and a superb setting and Martin Geraghty must be spoilt for choice. This is definitely an episode that provokes an impassioned commentary track: strap yourselves in.
It's oil verses electricity, man verses beast, Tom Baker verses the director. Quite a few battlegrounds then, yet each provokes great creativity using the simplest of ingredients - an isolated setting, a small cast, an angry leading man. And yet this one never lets up - not a line is wasted, and there is plenty for our guest, illustrator Martin Geraghty, to draw our attention to. Hopefully the commentary will be illuminating....
The Doctor and Leela's day trip turns into a nightmare when they wind up at a wave-lashed Edwardian lighthouse. Throw in a selfish toff, an hysterical harridan and a homicidal Brussels sprout and you have the perfect recipe for a sleepless night. This episode can also be found at iTunes/Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible and all other podcatchers (as far as we know).
John takes Paul and Tom to Worthing to show them his little green one. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week it's a celebration as we reach our 100th episode! And what better way to celebrate than with a story in which all the supporting characters die! Enjoy our centenary as we witness…The Horror of Fang Rock.
A new season starts and we find ourselves stranded on a lighthouse. Blobs invade, there are class wars and apparently sexual tension is happening.
The lighthouse island of Fang Rock is home to a legend of a beast that lurks amongst the rocks and brings death to whoever encounters it. However, on one fateful night the legend is about to become a reality. This week, Paddy and Tricia watch as The Doctor and Leela must deal with the superstitious lighthouse keepers and survivors of a ship wreck as they attempt to defend the isolated building from the Horror of Fang Rock.
Jason is on vacation this week, so here is a pre-recorded episode. We did not discuss the book cover, but this is one of the all-time great Target covers, so take an extra minute to drink that in. Jeff Cummins, everyone. Such a haunting, moody painting. Jason is joined this week by Steve Alexander (@stealexanderuk), a very familiar voice to listeners of the Trap One and the "Hamster with a Blunt Penknife" podcasts. Steve brings terrific intensity as we discuss not only "Horror of Fang Rock", both TV episode and novelization -- but also the long line of Target novelization audiobook adaptations. Steve brings with him a Top Ten list of audiobooks and his revelation of the top spot is not to be missed. Jason then reviews the novelization, in terms so glowing that the review itself could serve as a lighthouse. Also discussed this week is the fascinating 2018 Scottish film The Vanishing, based on the original Flannan Isle Lighthouse mystery. And don't forget to read the Wilfrid Gibson poem based on the same subject. Please e-mail the pod at DrWhoLiterature@gmail.com. You can catch all past episodes at https://anchor.fm/doctorwholit.

Horror of Fang Rock is the first serial of the 15th season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, first broadcast in four weekly parts on BBC1 from 3 to 24 September 1977.The TARDIS lands on the island of Fang Rock off the south coast of England in the early 20th century. Noticing that the lighthouse isn't functioning properly, the Doctor, in his fourth incarnation (or infinity+4 by today's reckoning) played by Tom Baker, decides to investigate.Upon arrival at the lighthouse, the Doctor discovers the dead body of one of the keepers. The other two keepers, old superstitious Reuben and the keen young Vince Hawkins, report that a light fell from the sky near the island. They also explain the electricity flow to the lamp on the lighthouse has become erratic and the Doctor deduces something is feeding on the flow. Reuben does not help matters with his constant references to the mythical Beast of Fang Rock, which reputedly once terrorised the lighthouse. As the Doctor and and his companion, Leela (played by Louise Jameson) explore, something moves Ben's body out of the lighthouse and onto the island, and they witness a curious electric crackling which seems to have killed fish nearby.$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$Just in case anyone has too much money and wants to give a bit to us to help with our hosting n stuff. First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on May 2nd 2021 Episode thirty of VISION ON SOUND is a little bit of a mish-mash of an episode as, amongst my own nonsense, I introduce TOBY THE DALEK in a new strand THINGS TOBY GUARDS in which I'll be looking at some of the archive TV memorabilia that I've accumulated over the years, which this week is a commentary on me flicking through the pages of the 1975 Christmas edition of the TV TIMES. After this, I present various bits of conversations that have somehow failed to make it to air on the show so far, which include a short extract from chat I had about the TV 0f 1966 with PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI, on his show THE SHY LIFE PODCAST episode 415, and a conversation I had with both him and ANDREW TROWBRIDGE from the ROUND THE ARCHIVES podcast about the DOCTOR WHO story HORROR OF FANG ROCK that wouldn't fit into out LIGHTHOUSES themed episode a few weeks ago. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
