This week I have some real talk with So Heather - Heather Anderson. Heather is a fashion blogger, influencer, and YouTuber. In this episode, we discuss divorce, marriage, and remarriage, blending families, becoming an influencer, staying healthy, and aging gracefully. Heather got into blogging almost ten years ago. Before passing, her father encouraged her to become a Personal Stylist or Wardrobe Consultant. This inspired Heather to start her own business, and the blog followed. She believes that if you dress in a way that makes you feel good and look confident, you can do anything.  Not only does Heather share the struggles of divorce, but also what it meant to become a blended family. Heather acknowledges the difficulty in trying to be fair to all children, and how this impacted her marriage. Therapy has helped her manage adjustments within her family life, including becoming empty-nesters and working from home with her husband every day. Heather’s life has also been touched by alcoholism. She discusses this as well as related aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For Heather, it’s important to eat healthily and work out regularly. This is not only for her physical health but for her mental health too. Spending time with family, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company, is Heather’s ideal day. She emphasizes the importance of family and how her mother and father have both played a significant role in her life. When Heather isn’t practicing yoga or hanging out with her family, she’s redefining what the Mom over 40 looks like on her blog and Instagram. I hope you enjoy this real talk with So Heather - Heather Anderson as much as I did! Today, my guest shares her inspiring story about what helped her turn things around in life to manifest her dreams. She shares nuggets of wisdom and practical techniques that can help you move forward in your dream chase. Join us! Heather Hakes is a mindset coach, speaker, and author of https://amzn.to/3pHkMWa (Take the Leap). She has been featured on numerous podcasts and published in Voyage Denver and Women Who Empower and Inspire. Heather has reached tens of thousands through her international podcast, Mind Over Matter. Heather specializes in helping others get out of their own way by awakening their infinite potential to create their ideal life. Heather is a graduate of Tony Robbins’ Mastery University and Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie Masterclass. She also studies Eckhart Tolle, Bob Proctor, and Robin Sharma’s principles of presence, shifting paradigms, and personal mastery. Heather manifested six-figures after taking the leap to quit the corporate world by aligning with her true passion and purpose and is now on a mission to help others overcome self-doubt through her transformative coaching programs, retreats, and courses. Following society’s rules How likely are you to follow the “rules” that society sets for you? Heather admits that she was caught in this trap for a long time. She followed society’s rules in getting her degree and moving into the corporate world. For over a decade, Heather felt out of place, like she was chasing someone else’s dream. She remembers complaining to her parents about what she was doing while dreading every single Monday and cheering every single Friday for week after week. Climbing the corporate ladder left her feeling miserable about her job and her life. She finally clarified what she really wanted in life with the help of a coach. TWEET: Stop chasing someone else’s dream. @heather.hakes #chasingdreams A moment of pivot What is it that you need to pivot from right now? Pivoting away from what you’ve known is not an easy thing to do. For Heather, it meant leaving the safety and security of a corporate job with a steady and sufficient paycheck. She had felt the gnawing inside of her for a long time as it told her to make a change. Her message to others is not to wait until you’re “ready” and everything is aligned because those moments may never come. You just have to jump first and let the net appear. Heather made the leap, even though it meant facing the worst-case scenario with fear and hesitation. We all need to realize that our story is a journey and a process---and not a destination. TWEET: Don’t wait until you’re “ready” and everything is aligned to make a change because those moments may never come. @heather.hakes #chasingdreams Creating a path What do you do when the traditional path isn’t available or clear? Heather says to find a mentor when your circumstances change and you can’t see clearly the path ahead. Look for someone who is where you want to be or a few steps ahead of you. They can help you create clarity and formulate a roadmap forward. Be resourceful and find an “accountabili-buddy.” There are coaches, mentors, and peers who will help you if you just ask; they can be great resources to help you move forward with an attitude of gratitude for your journey and what you learn along the way. TWEET: Look for a mentor who is where you want to be or is a few steps ahead of you. @heather.hakes #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream-chaser to take--”Take one step in front of the other. Don’t look too far down the road. Try my technique for identifying specific goals: know your WHAT, be super specific about your strong WHYS, and take your first step.” OUTLINE OF THE EPISODE: [:32] Young Heather’s dreams  [1:05] How Heather incorporated teaching into her work    [2:15] Following society’s convention [3:58] Benefits to being curious [7:07] Heather’s moment of pivot [11:03] Why Heather has no regrets about her...

In thinking about what she wanted for her birth, she wanted it to be full of choices and led by her voice. For Heather, that meant a strong birth team of doulas and midwives, having a homebirth, and following her body and baby's lead. At about 43 weeks, after a walk under the full moon, Heather's water broke, and things began moving pretty fast. After laboring for about four to five hours, Heather was pushing, yet she would be stopped suddenly by her midwife, expressing to her that they would need to head to the hospital, making it clear that this was an emergency. Her son's head was stuck behind her pelvis and would need support from forceps for his arrival.Heather's postpartum journey has had its hills and valleys. Dealing with postpartum depression and anxiety for about three and a half to four years, a diagnosis that she didn't get until her son was two and a half - " I knew I was in it, but I didn't know what it was, I just thought this was my new normal." While also working through her mental health, she was navigating her nursing journey. Due to the forceps, her son needed cranial sacral therapy to get his jaw back in alignment, impacting his beginning of nursing. But they were able to find their rhythm until he was about five and a half. A dance they worked through continuously figuring out what worked for them. All of this is a testament to her spectrum of life, an aspect that Heather takes into her work.Heather considers herself a full spectrum photographer - documenting all facets and stages of life, from the time you enter the world, through the life you lead, and upon your transition into death. Understanding the vulnerability and trust needed for capturing these experiences with authenticity, Heather's work is "extremely inclusive, empathetic and intimate" aspects that she also takes to support families as a full spectrum doula again honoring life and death.Photography has always been a part of her life, really moving forward out of necessity to communicate with her mother - who was diagnosed profoundly deaf. Being a deaf Chinese immigrant, gaining access to and learning ways to communicate came slowly for her mother, and they both had reached a point where communicating was not happening. Finding that her sketch drawings weren't working, Heather began taking polaroids, snapshots of what she was doing, wanted, or needed. With these creating literal storyboards to bring things to life for her mom. Which became a real breakthrough for them and also for Heather - photography is how she connects and communicates. She is hoping that with her new project within Life's a Spectrum, she can unveil new parts for people about themselves. An ability to look at the layers of their life, the emotions they have carried, where they set their boundaries and limits, but most importantly, what's their center and where they always come back to.ResourcesHeather Gallagher | full spectrum photographyLife's a Spectrum | Heather Gallagher full spectrum doula services

And you have a special gift that you can bring to the world. Your unique blend of talents, skills and perspective is needed. So in a way…. There is no competition. What do you have to offer the world?   Whitney Lauritsen Whitney coaches other people how to do what they love and make a loving from it. Her brand Creative Wellth helps content creators and small business owners who are helping others live healthier lives, in harmony with the environment. Her latest course teaches how you can monetize your content (37 different ways to do so!). You can share your passion with the world AND get money from it. Forget working a job you hate. Your career should be complementary to the things you love and to your purpose.   Lauren’s Tip: Figure out your money issues. We all have them and they get in the way, especially if you’re trying to generate income. Money Love Story is a great book on the emotional angle of money. You’re a Badass at Making Money helps you figure out the emotional things that are getting in your way of financial abundance.   Nicole Derseweh Lauren is a vegan chef, YouTube personality, and hosts the BEST popups in LA. Her advice: find your special sauce. That thing that makes you YOU, that quirk and passion, your light and dark. Own it. If you’re true to you, it makes you relatable, people want to do business with someone who’s authentic.   Nicole’s Tip: When Meryl Streep started her acting career, she would treat every role like it was the dream role of a lifetime. Use that in your business. It doesn’t matter how many people show up for your event, or whether that first gig isn’t paid. Show up like it’s a packed house. Even if it’s a tiny project, give it your all. The Universe will give you a bigger opportunity the next time.   Jason Wrobel He’s a lifestyle coach, vegan chef and nutrition edutainer. His mission is to reduce suffering and increase joy in this world. If you don’t know what you’re doing, that’s FINE! We’re all just making it up as we go. Most successful people did not know what they were doing, they were just following their passion. You can’t be afraid to stumble on the way.   Jason’s tip: Look at your business like you look at investing. The more sources of income you have, the more stable your income source. Diversify your investment.  Carve out the uniqueness of who you are and trust that the more of yourself you reveal, the more people will embrace you.   How to start your journey to your dream career: There’s only love or fear to choose. Do you trust that the Universe has your back? At some point you have to jump from the security of your 9 to 5 to your own business. You have to have trust that you can do it.   Trust that you have a story to share Believe in yourself Have a to do list but let go of control (the Universe will help) Trust that it will come as long as you’re persistent - stick at it Rejection is just a stumbling block on the path - don’t be afraid to fail, you have to keep believing Learn self-love - you have to believe that you deserve to live your best life     Remove the blocks to your income and creativity with Soul on Fire Retreats Founder Heather Fantin Heather is a spiritual breakthrough coach, on a mission to help you heal your relationship with you. She’s just launched her year-long personal group coaching program called the Inner Circle. Check out Episode 156 for her inspiring story.   Alli and Heather met at Level 2 Spirit Junkie Master Class. For Heather, Spirit Junkies are a global movement of people returning to love and sharing that with the wider world. More and more of us are waking up. If there’s something inside you that’s feeling unsettled, if you feel like there must be something more to life than this. Even if you’re not clear on your future, there’s yearning for deeper meaning and direction. When this happens, you will be guided to your new path, you’ll be guided to the teachers you need.   The number one thing people struggle with when they start their heart-centered business is feeling like it’s not ok to charge for their services. You’ve got to get over that. There’s nothing spiritual about you not being able to pay your rent.   The first step is awareness. Tune in and get clear about what your belief is around money and making money for something that you love. Write them down, look at them. You’ll probably find most of these beliefs aren’t even yours, they come from things you heard in your childhood. Let them go, forgive them, release them.   Use the same technique to look at what’s holding you back. Are you avoiding showing up? Are you spending all your time binge-watching Netflix? Do you feel stuck? Are you comparing yourself so much that you feel paralyzed? Can you turn your fear into faith? You’re not working alone - the Universe is always supporting you.   Once you’ve released those limiting beliefs, it’s time to create your new story. What’s the opposite, positive, empowering belief? Write it down. This creates affirmations that will work, because you’ve done the deep work to support them. Give yourself permission to follow your dreams and to succeed. Look for evidence that supports your new beliefs. Trust that when you start looking, the Universe will give you what you need, whether it’s inspiration, teachers, guidance or opportunities.   You must go beyond just speaking the words. You need to get into a feeling state. Because the universe responds to the feeling, not the words. Affirmations won’t work if you’re not feeling them. See yourself living your perfect life, visualize as many details, feelings, emotions as you can - how will you feel when you live that life?   Most importantly, get rid of the guilt you might feel for wanting to do what you love. Remember - it’s bigger than you. You’re doing the world a disservice by keeping your unique gifts to yourself. This is your higher calling to help heal others and help heal the world. Whatever this calling looks like to you - it might be music, it might be food, it might be healing, it might be teaching, it might be anything at all. Just be authentically you, trust that you’re right where you need to be and that you are always being guided.     Make Your Passion Your Paycheck with Alida McDaniel Alida is an intuitive life strategist, personal trainer and culinary artist on a mission to help people thrive doing what they love. Check out her story on Episodes 43, 65 and 80 to find out how she lost 80 pounds and healed herself of a multitude of health issues.   We all want to escape the 9 to 5…. But we’re afraid of what that looks like, especially from a financial perspective. When passion becomes your paycheck, your money mindset shifts. Instead of seeing it as evil something you get after you sit at a desk being bored, money becomes something you receive for doing something that you love. That is a powerful change.   It’s time to stop seeing money as something evil, something to feel guilty about. Non-profits need to make money to help change the world. So why not be that person who makes so much money that you can fund the non-profits?   Living your passion does not necessarily mean setting up on your own - you might be an independent contractor, a writer, a maker, a teacher. You just have to find that thing that makes you smile, that makes your heart sing. The moment you step into passion, the universe responds in kind.   So how do you start living in passion? Here are Alida’s top tips: Don’t let yourself get out of bed until you have imagined what you want your day to be (don’t list your tasks, see yourself achieving your goals and how good that feels) Ask spirit “what can I learn today?” Believe and trust - keep telling yourself what you want and trust that it’s on its way.   Your gift of passion is meant to be shared with the world. Who are you to deny that gift? Don’t procrastinate. Don’t prevent yourself from receiving that abundance. The world needs your unique talents.   You can get in touch with Alida at alida@alidamcdaniel.com.   Being hailed as “Sex and the City for Food,” The Food Heals Podcast brings together experts in the field of nutrition, health and healing to teach you the best-kept natural secrets to being a hotter, healthier, happier YOU!   The Food Heals Podcast is hosted by Allison Melody and Suzy Hardy – two self-proclaimed natural chicks who will rock your world and change your beliefs about health! It’s about that time … time to get serious about starting training for Ironman 70.3 Traverse City, a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run triathlon set for Aug. 25, 2019. Yes, this race is 8 months away. There is plenty of time ahead to get ready for this inaugural race. And yet, if you’re like Heather and this distance and event is going to be a first for you, you just might be thinking of getting things rolling in the coming weeks, as winter gets underway. For Heather, the swim portion is definitely a key component of earlier-than-later training. As she shares during this episode, getting into the pool this month, at least a couple of times, is part of the plan. Heather talks with guests Rebecca and Tony Venticinque, both of whom are accomplished triathletes and seasoned coaches. Heather will be working with Tony and Rebecca, who operate Tri Again Fitness in Traverse City, as she trains for Ironman 70.3 Traverse City. Rebecca also shares her most recent full Ironman experience, a Nov. 4 race that almost didn’t happen in Florida because of Hurricane Michael. It was moved from Panama City Beach to Haines City, Fla. “After the hurricane hit … it was all up in the air even three weeks before the race,” she said. Tony was there as well, this time a volunteer and not competing as he has in two other full Ironman events. Rebecca talks about what it was like to complete this race in pretty warm conditions and, later in the race, a downpour. Rebecca and Tony provide a preview of what’s to come in Heather’s training throughout winter and spring and during the summer (open water swimming!) as race day gets closer. Tony and Rebecca’s coaching business also includes a team of athletes, many of whom are signed on for Ironman 70.3 Traverse City. They’re also hosting a 70.3 triathlon training camp, May 10-12, 2019, that is open to anyone interested in preparing for the Traverse City event – or other triathlons. Lodging, meals, group training, and plenty of optional topics will be discussed throughout the weekend. Full course previews of the Traverse City event also will be part of the weekend. With over 45 years of combined coaching experience, Tri Again Fitness has helped coach individuals to national recognition, club national team wins, multiple World Team qualifications at all triathlon distances, all-American honors, Boston Marathon qualifiers and helped countless athletes achieve personal bests and lifelong milestones. Tony has been coaching in one respect or another since 1991, and professionally coaching triathlon since 2006. Professional accomplishments at the USAT Club Nationals include winning the Division V in 2009 and securing runner-up at the Division IV in 2010. He’s also coached 21 age group athletes to 33 world team qualifications at the sprint, olympic, 70.3 and 140.6 distances over the past five years. Tony is a USA Triathlon Certified Level 2 Coach and USA Cycling Certified Level 2 coach. Rebecca is an athlete turned coach. She has coached since 1993 in various sports. She has a Bachelors of Science in Management of Health Services, Group Exercise certification from ASFA Personal Training Certification from ISSA. USAT (Triathlon) certification and USATF (Track and Field) certification.

The female athlete triad is sidelining female athletes. The triad includes low energy availability (under-fueling for your activity), amenorrhea (loss of period), and low bone mass. This can be normalized in our culture of women in sport but it is not. Delayed menses, multiple injuries and stress fractures, are red flags for the female athlete triad. Welcome! Today’s guests are the husband and wife team of Heather and Damian Dube. Their background is in bodybuilding, and they are experts in hormone health and fat loss. I met them at a health conference in CA and knew I had to have them on the show! Heather and Damian cover the following topics: Heather and Damian met in a gym when Damian offered her training and nutrition advice on healing from ACL reconstruction surgery. Before long, they were married! They both worked in sales and marketing in Sacramento, CA, but their lives were very stressful. Heather experienced many symptoms of health issues, visited many doctors, but was not properly diagnosed until much later. Her fatigue became severe, and she saw no relief until she visited a natural health practitioner and started to make changes. Heather was later diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, autoimmune issues, pancreatic toxicity, and tested 50% positive for lupus. As a couple, they experienced severe economic and financial losses that took more than five years from which to recover! Common symptoms that signal autoimmune problems are allergies, breakouts, rashes, eczema, hair loss, irritability with spouse and children, and digestive problems. The turning point for Heather was when she made the choice to put her body first; these changes included walking away from a stressful job that threatened her health and life. For Heather, it was a shift in mindset to be 100% committed to change and NOT to simply accept the way things were and what the doctors recommended. In our society, we have been made to believe that we need so much more materially than we really do. Sometimes we can regain health by simplifying our lives. Heather made nutrition #1 in her life and simplified her lifestyle, letting go of a lot of things that weren’t essential. Heather and Damian prioritize their food and supplements to the point that they spend more than twice as much on those as they do for their housing—and that’s for the two of them and their two small dogs! “To be well, it’s NOT just the food on your plate, but its’ the mindset, values, spirit, stress, habits, and skills. Live a different way if you want a different outcome.” Everyone should know their “breaking point” in dealing with stressful environments, and sometimes, that can stem from childhood issues. There are three main points of advice from Heather and Damian: Recognize the symptoms that your body gives you. Align your values with the decisions that you make for health. Recognize the patterns that will put you back in your unhealthy situation.
