Do you have a specific end goal for your private practice, but aren't really sure how to get there? This episode is perfect for you!I sat down with Heather Anderson, a speech-language pathologist with a private practice in Monroe, Michigan. Heather started out as a medical SLP, later became a pediatric SLP to start her own private practice, and now sees all ages through her practice, Your Voice Speech Therapy. I helped Heather get started through the Start Your Private Practice Program. As her business took off, she leveled up to the Grow Your Private Practice Program, which has helped her create a thriving practice doing what she loves. In this episode, Heather shares what it was like starting her practice on the side of a full-time job, why she pivoted to pediatric services, and how that flexibility eventually allowed her to get back to her zone of genius and experience huge growth. Heather graduated from The University of Toledo in 2016 with a Master of Arts. Her first exposure to speech pathology was as a junior in high school in 2008. While looking through possible majors at The University of Toledo, the title of speech-language pathology instantly caught her attention. Her mother recommended shadowing a speech-language pathologist at the hospital where she worked, and after taking her advice, decided after just one hour that it was the career for her. After graduation, Heather began working in a transitional care setting (a segway from acute care into a skilled nursing facility). While working in transitional care, she also worked in acute care at Toledo Hospital, where she learned valuable information for evaluating and treating strokes (in the neuro ICU), dysphagia, cognitive disorders, tracheostomies, motor vehicle accidents, and traumatic brain injuries. She also became certified to perform swallow studies (MBSImP certified).Heather then went into an outpatient pediatric setting while conducting swallow studies for acute care patients and outpatients. From there, she worked in skilled nursing settings in which she worked heavily with voicing disorders, dysphagia, dementia care, memory impairments, and more. Heather became a Certified Dementia Practitioner while working in skilled nursing and has expertise working in specialized Alzhiemer's/dementia care facilities. She has since continued working in acute care and skilled nursing settings but has always dreamed of owning a private practice. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:Heather's background and how she got into SLPWhat motivated Heather to start her own practice on the side of her jobWhat helped her take the leap to enter a school contractA look into the networking opportunities that came with pursuing her own practice The reality of pivoting your vision to serve the communityHow the Start and Grow programs helped Heather get back to her zone of geniusThe power of becoming the one that people refer toI hope you find Heather's story inspiring! If you've been thinking about starting a private practice on the side of your job to have the flexibility for your family that Heather strived for, be sure to tune in!If you would like to know more about our Programs and how we help support SLPs and OTs who want our help to start and grow their practices, please visit www.IndependentClinician.com/resourcesWhether you want to start a private practice or grow your existing private practice, I can help you get the freedom, flexibility, fulfillment, and financial abundance that you deserve. The sentencing of Heather Anderson, 36, has reignited outrage over the brutal murder of Shelley Stamp, 34, nearly two years ago in her Connecticut home. Anderson, who admitted to the crime, was sentenced to 25 to 30 years in prison by New Haven Superior Court Judge Joseph B. Schwartz. However, Stamp's grieving family has condemned the sentence as insufficient for the heinous crime committed. The family discovered Stamp's body after not hearing from her and decided to stop by her apartment in Waterbury. That's where they found her dead inside her home in a pool of blood, having been beaten and strangled with her own jacket during a home invasion, allegedly in pursuit of money for drugs. Anderson, who entered an Alford plea to one count of felony murder, will serve her time in a state correctional facility. During the sentencing hearing, Stamp's mother and sister delivered emotional victim impact statements, expressing profound grief and anger towards Anderson. Laura Tajildeen, Stamp's sister, directed powerful words at Anderson, condemning her actions and wishing a lifetime of remorse upon her. “I hope the look on my sister's face, the cries of help as you brutally attacked her, haunts you for the rest of your life. I hope you rot in your prison cell for the rest of your miserable life, and you dwell on the choices that you've made, and they haunt you for every minute of every day, because you deserve no happiness and no mercy from the court as you had none for my sister.” Stamp's mother, Kathy Daversa, expressed deep disappointment with the sentence, asserting that justice had not been served for her daughter's senseless killing. “25 to 30 years is not justice for the brutal and heinous murder of a vivacious, caring, loving, young woman in the prime of her life,” Daversa said. “She must have been so scared. What a horrible way to die. Looking up at a stranger's face full of rage, in desperate need of money to supply your disgusting drug habit. I picture her horrific death in my mind over and over again. No one can imagine picturing your daughter's vicious murder obsessively.” In response, Anderson offered an apology to Stamp's family, expressing regret for the tragic outcome of her actions. However, Judge Schwartz criticized the severity of the crime, denouncing it as a "particularly troubling murder" driven by a callous pursuit of drugs. “I agree with the state, it was done for peanuts. For nothing but a few bucks to buy drugs. It is unforgivable. It leaves me at a loss for words,” Schwartz said. “When you murder somebody, you don't just murder the complainant. In a lot of ways, you murder their entire family. Not only have you changed them forever, you have stolen all kinds of memories and the future that they were supposed to have together.” The details of Stamp's murder, revealed during the investigation, showcased the brutality of the crime. Anderson, along with another woman, Shannon Gritzbach, allegedly targeted Stamp's apartment in search of money. Anderson reportedly sought out a man she believed could provide her with money. This individual had previously resided in the same apartment as Stamp but had relocated to another unit within the building. Surveillance footage captured Anderson's failed attempts to enter the apartment before ultimately confronting Stamp upon her return home. Despite Anderson's admission of throwing Stamp to the ground and stealing from her apartment, including cash and credit cards, she denied tying the jacket around Stamp's head. Police discovered Stamp's belongings in Anderson's possession upon her arrest. While Gritzbach faced initial charges in connection with Stamp's death, she was later released on misdemeanor charges. However, her failure to appear in court has resulted in an ongoing search for her arrest. The Stamp family is now advocating for harsher sentences for these types of violent crimes. “It's because the sentences are not strict enough. The criminals are not afraid to commit the crimes. That's the problem,” Kathy Daversa added. “There's absolutely no justice in 30 years. It's an insult to my daughter's life. It's an absolute slap in the face to my daughter that the brutal murder just got 30 years.” #HeatherAnderson #ShelleyStamp #JosephSchwartz #ConnecticutMurder #HomeInvasion #FelonyMurder #VictimImpactStatements Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Heather Anderson is a community leader and marketing strategist who's passionate about fostering organic growth for businesses through social media engagement and strategic partnerships. She's the Founder of The Mamahood, the largest and most diverse support group for mothers in the San Francisco Bay Area, and The Club, a growth accelerator that helps women Founders, CEOs and creatives reach a Bay Area audience. She's also a writer, speaker, songwriter, and a mother of five in Walnut Creek, with a penchant for graphic novels and reading cookbooks without actually cooking. Her second book, The Story of Sadie, is currently being published episodically as an illustrated musical memoir. As a serial entrepreneur myself, with 25 years of marketing experience specializing in organic growth and strategic partnerships for brands, I have pivoted from working primarily with Founders of larger, VC-backed companies to working with women Founders in a more affordable, scalable way. I've crafted a way for smaller companies to capitalize on lower cost organic growth strategies after seeing so many founders waste critical funds on ineffectual marketing and advertising methods. The reward for me is providing incredible women with awesome brands with maximum impact and ROI at the lowest cost possible, capitalizing on the power of community. Membership in The Club is by interview only, so the best way to see if it feels like a fit is to jump on a call with me here: https://calendly.com/themamahood/30minWe have two levels of membership, and understanding your business needs, wants, goals and budget, will help me suggest the best route forward. If membership isn't a fit for some reason, I'll make some other helpful suggestions and leave you with some free advice. Who I'm most looking for: women Founders, CEOs, creatives whose product or services serve women in the Bay Area, LA or Sacramento. Club members can be anywhere in the world if their services are remote or they sell shippable product appropriate for CA residents or in-person in the Bay Area. We look for innovation, sustainability, health and wellness, clean and green, and an awareness around social justice, equity, and community impact. Club Member Criteria: a positive attitude, abundance mindset, willingness to learn, and an interest in connecting and collaborating with other business owners. Women must also own their companies, as our platform isn't set up to support employees or sales reps of third party brands. Heather Anderson shares her journey from working at a digital marketing agency to becoming Vice President of Marketing and Operations at The Little Gym, and then transitioning to a VP role at Eulerity, a supplier of efficient marketing platforms. She underscores the importance of adaptability in franchising and marketing, especially during the pandemic, and stresses the need for brand consistency and creating a passionate customer base. Heather highlights the blurred lines between marketing and IT, the necessity of data management, and privacy concerns. Discussing her move to Eulerity, Heather explains how the company's AI-powered digital marketing platform helps businesses manage their digital presence and streamline operations, improving agility and reducing the need for outsourcing. Eulerity enhances strategic focus while optimizing media spend through machine learning, benefiting brands with multiple locations. The rapid evolution of technology and consumer behavior, the importance of AI in marketing, and the challenges of brand clustering by private equity are also addressed. Heather talks too, about the consolidation of family-run businesses and the need to maintain their original culture and vision after acquisition. She emphasizes listening to franchisees and merging different business cultures. Finally, Heather touches on her involvement with the International Franchise Association and the Women's Franchise Network, and the origin of Eulerity's name, inspired by mathematician Leonard Euler, reflecting the company's goal to simplify complexity. The conversation ends with a nod to future discussions with Heather to further explore her insights.
Jennifer Pharr Davis is perhaps best known in our community for her two fastest known times set on the Appalachian Trail in 2008 and 2011. The latter record, in my humble opinion, stands as one of the most important and influential feats in the ultra-endurance community during the 2010s.Jennifer is also the author of an excellent book called 'The Pursuit of Endurance', which profiles well-known athletes from the long-distance Fastest Known Time (FKT) scene, including Scott Jurek, Heather Anderson, David Horton, and Warren Doyle. During this conversation, we gain insights from Jennifer on the state of the FKT world. We discuss whether the current media attention, regulations, and styles that drive many modern athletes are a net positive for this space. And Jennifer also shares how she approached the trail and provides updates on what she's currently involved in.Sponsors:Naak - use code SINGLETRACK15 at checkout on their website (https://www.naak.com/) to get 15% off your purchase.Rabbit - use code Singletrack20 at checkout on their website (https://www.runinrabbit.com/) to get 20% off your next order.Kodiak Cakes - use code Singletrack15 at checkout on their website (https://kodiakcakes.com/singletrackpodcast) to get 15% off your next order.Brooks Running - check out their High Point clothing collection and new and improved Cascadia 17 shoe at this link (https://www.brooksrunning.com/singletrack).Oladance - use code ST at this link (https://oladance.com/ST) to get $30 off the Oladance OWS2 headphones.Links:Follow Jennifer on Instagram, Personal Website, Pursuit of Endurance BookFollow Finn on Instagram, Strava, Twitter, Youtube, and PatreonSupport the show

Ever heard of imposter syndrome? You'd think that once you set a new record on the PCT* you'd feel like you earned your stripes as a trail runner. Yet, after doing exactly that, Heather still struggled with self-doubt. She continued to feel as though she was "just lucky". So, in 2015, Heather set out to overcome this internal story by going after the AT** record. She was ready to prove to herself she wasn't a fraud at all. This podcast is her story of overcoming imposter syndrome. In what is a world first, Australian researchers have posthumously diagnosed a female professional athlete with the degenerative brain disease CTE. Low stage CTE - or chronic traumatic encephalopathy - was identified in the brain of former Australian Rules footballer Heather Anderson, who died last November, aged 28. It has been described as a landmark diagnosis and a wake-up call at a time when women are taking up contact sport in greater numbers. Auckland University neuroscientist Dr Helen Murray spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
April Reid, Melissa Clark, and Heather Anderson discuss the importance of women's ministry for the church.
Earlier this week we heard the news that Australia had recorded another case of an athlete suffering from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The thing that made this case unique was that it was a female athlete that was diagnosed. The story of Adelaide Crows AFLW Premiership player Heather Anderson has a tragic ending, but could her death start a conversation that has so far only focussed on men in sport? In this episode of The Quicky, we look at what this landmark case means for women in sport and if there's anything we can do to protect us from damaging our brains when we're enjoying the sports we love. Former AFLW player Heather Anderson has become the first professional female athlete in the world to be diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is a condition caused by brain injuries like concussion, and can only be diagnosed postmortem. While there is a growing body of research on how the condition impacts men, less is known about how it impacts women. This is despite the fact that research shows women may be more susceptible to concussions in the first place. Have you ever questioned God's leading when following Him costs you your greatest joy? Has your acceptance of God's plan brought you grief instead of peace? Do you find that waiting for clarity is excruciating when you're suffering in the present? These are some of the questions Heather Anderson wrestled with. When her husband, Josh, left his professional baseball career in obedience to Christ's calling, years of pain and brokenness followed. Not only did God require Josh to die to himself, but Heather also experienced a pouring out. Together, however, they learned that being separated from your dream doesn't mean you've separated from God. Through this episode you will: ▫️Take active steps to mend your relationship with God. ▫️Restore your trust in God when He changes your circumstances. ▫️Gain confidence to speak with the Lord after you've been disappointed. ▫️Overcome the urge to shrink back from your mission when your purpose is unclear. ▫️Discover satisfaction in your new phase of life. Join us as Heather shares how to return to your first love. Because as she will show you, personally experiencing the Lord is how you obtain His light, because in Him there is no darkness. Your pain will grow dim in the light of your commitment and God's glory. “We can be love offerings by staying committed to the Lord and doing what He's called us to do.
