Gene Zannetti talks with Final X champion and World Team member Wyatt Hendrickson about why he said mindset was the key difference between making the world team and becoming a world champion, how deciding to be a national champion nine months before NCA's shaped every training decision that followed, the difference between confidence and cockiness and how his opponents can feel which one you are before the match even starts, and why discipline trumps motivation every time and he trains for his future self not his present comfort.Timestamps:2:35 - Last year the goal was just to make the world team — now it's to be a world champion5:00 - You can't fool yourself at worlds if you didn't live the lifestyle in training6:12 - Dad's lesson: the match is won or lost before you even step out on the mat7:54 - Confidence versus cockiness: confidence has nothing to do with the other person9:02 - So locked in before the Gable finals that he never heard what Gable said to him11:59 - Wrestling your match not your opponent's match — same principle on the mat and mentally13:18 - Training with David Taylor and Saeed Valencia replaced his ego with humility16:15 - Discipline trumps motivation — he trains hard today so his future self can be proud

Widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, he is known for his pace, dribbling, and clinical finishing. Born in Paris and raised in nearby Bondy, Mbappé began his senior club career in 2015 with Monaco. With Monaco, he won the Ligue 1 title for the 2016–17 season. In 2017, at age 18, Mbappé signed for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on an eventual permanent transfer worth €180 million, making him the second-most-expensive player and most expensive teenage player of all time. With PSG, he won six Ligue 1 titles, four Coupes de France, including a domestic quadruple in the 2019–20 season and became the club's all-time top goalscorer. He is a record 5 time Ligue 1 Player of the Year and a record 6 time Ligue 1 top goalscorer. In 2024, after several years of speculation, Mbappé joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. He finished as the joint second-highest goalscorer as France won the tournament, and he was honored as the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player and French Player of the Year. He helped France to victory in the UEFA Nations League in 2021, receiving the top scorer award in the finals. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, France reached the final again; Mbappé won the Golden Boot and Silver Ball, and set a new record for the most goals scored in World Cup final matches. Mbappé, who scored a hat trick in the match, is one of only two players to have scored in two consecutive World Cup finals. In France's opening match at the 2026 World Cup, Mbappé reached 58 international goals to become his country's all-time top goalscorer.Mbappé finished in third place for the 2023 Ballon d'Or and was runner-up for The Best FIFA Men's Player award of 2022. Filmmaker Tony Melanson joins Jason Bryant to discuss his new documentary Iron Maidens: Wrestling for Glory, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film chronicles the rise of girls' high-school wrestling in Pennsylvania through the stories of North Allegheny's Leyna Rumpler and Hickory's Avry Ryhal, two pioneers whose friendship and rivalry unfolded as the state sanctioned girls' wrestling for the first time.RELATED: Kyle Klingman's interview with Leyna and Avry. Melanson explains how the project began after following Leyna's journey as a family friend, how he built trust with high-school athletes unaccustomed to cameras, and how he captured both the human and historical sides of this breakthrough season. He discusses the challenges of editing a year's worth of footage into a tight 55-minute feature, the importance of balancing authenticity with clarity for non-wrestling audiences, and the behind-the-scenes choice to use Jocko Willink as narrator. Bryant and Melanson dive into the film's emotional moments with coaches Dan Heckert and Eric Mount, the archival work from Tom Elling and Jeff Byers' recreated championship call, and how former World Team member Erin Tomeo connects the trailblazers of the past with today's generation. The conversation explores what Iron Maidens means for the continued growth of women's wrestling in Pennsylvania and nationwide. Save $20 on an annual BTN+ subscription!
