This is Draw The Line Radio Show with Jacki-e, featuring my mix in the 1st hr of music made by women and then, for the 2nd hr, I hand the decks over to a female DJ. Helping me Draw The Line this week it's Amanda Mayo aka Slow Shudder, a Seattle-based music producer, recording artist, DJ and songwriter. Her versatile sound encompasses musical influences across indie electronic, dance, experimental, and alternative music, culminating in a way that’s best described as forward-thinking pop. As a DJ with nine years experience behind the decks, she’s built up a sizable collection that she shares in genre-hopping sets, blending well-known hits with undiscovered gems. Our next guest is no doubt the epitome of artistic independence and self-expression. Ladies and gentlemen please welcome YUKA. She has released her exquisite sounds mostly via her own Bandcamp page as well as her other home, Fullpanda. Her works are rare and few apart, yet what draws the listener to her art is Yuka's innate ability to convey unique and penetrating feelings, regardless of tempo and convention, leaving the audience needing more. Yuka has been on our wishlist for a while so we are very excited to finally be able to feature her amazing talent on our series. The next 60 minutes are both equally as absorbing as ejecting, pulling the listener inwards and outwards, unveiling all of Yuka's bold and superlative artistry. This is one of her most cerebral and introspective journeys yet – YUKA in the mix exclusively for The Erratic Podcast. Yuka is a female DJ now based in Moscow (where she has lived since 1998), but who began her career in distant Bratsk, Siberia. The town - a local industrial center - is probably more famous for what it dumps than what it makes; in the recent past it was listed as one of the thirty most polluted cities in the world. It wouldn't take much persuasion for someone to move on... Yuka's preparation for a shift to the capital's nightclubs was lengthy, however, since music had played an important role in her life since the age of 6. Over time, her passions moved in the direction of painting, sculpture, and design - activities she continues to this day. That initial school-day enthusiasm at the piano would eventually win out, though, and dictate her choice of higher education. Her musical training thus led to a degree from the Irkutsk Arts Institute, where she no doubt studied under her real name, Irina Solobutova. Now that she's fully ensconced in Moscow, her music appears regularly through the outlets of four labels: Fullpanda, Semantica, Silent Season, Pro-Tez. She is a resident of Fullpanda label parties named ALL YOU NEED IS EARS.
Following the slow and deep brew of the last episode, our 60th mix comes as an ever-cerebral and purely sonic adventure by one of the most celebrated duos in techno today , WOO YORK. The next hour is the recording from when they performed live at NextSound Festival (an all-live acts and advanced music/arts festival) alongside Byetone from Raster-Noton, held at the underground Closer Club in their hometown of Kiev, Ukraine, last month. This live performance was one of its kind as it explores live sound arrangement and manipulation (100% improvised), which is the concept and setup they specialize at the moment, aspiring to take it even further. We are truly humbled by the opportunity of hosting these amazing and very talented guys on this special occasion and releasing this extremely organic and experimental live session. Production-wise, their Grad EP released mid-last year was received exceptionally well, which included superb remixes by Jeroen Search, Deepbass, and Ness (all past guests in this series). For this year, they already have a slew of 12" planned across Soma (first one coming out this month), Audio Assault, and Fullpanda. Aside from keeping themselves busy in the studio, they plan to continue performing their refined live-act while creating new sounds and textures. With this said, we hope you enjoy the following 55 minutes of mind-blowing, abstract, futuristic music as much as we do.
