Berlin, Detroit, Birmingham and, of course, Sarajevo. Bosnian-built and -bred Sev Dah may be a Swedish expat, but the Balkan blackness clings strongly to the bleak percussions and rigidly uneasy synthetics that unwillingly fuse into his strongly individual take on techno. Authentically purveying the pulsations of the nakedly throbbing and ugly world, far away from Starbucks and H&M. Signed to respected labels such as Random Island, Mote-Evolver and Kaiser's KSR, he quickly gnawed his way into the scene's core of DJs and producers. Sev is even managing new projects on his own label Proletarijat since 2016. Like a rabid mongrel, since 1998 he has been chewing and belching new bastard beats that are aching to scream out. Consequently there's a steaming and steady stream of vinyl releases coming. With influences ranging from Stigmata and Mills to Master Reese and Petar Dundov, Sev Dah is a versatile but headstrong DJ that can gently ease a thumb in at midnight or fervently thrust it down the hatch at peak time. "I'm like a collector—everything I come across makes it into my music." The dance music don talks about the music that shaped him and his recent L.B. Dub Corp album on Dekmantel. Luke Slater, the British DJ, producer and occasional drummer, has been making music under a slew of monikers since the '80s: Planetary Assault Systems, L.B. Dub Corp, LSD, The 7th Plain, Clementine—the list goes on. While he's put out an excellent range of dynamic analogue music that runs the gamut of house, acid, breakbeat, electro and even spoken word, he's probably best known for his productions and live shows that focus on sleek and solid techno, as showcased on Ostgut Ton and his own imprint, Mote-Evolver. In the latest instalment of our flagship live series Playing Favourites, Slater unpacks the tracks that, for him, best illustrate the history of techno at large, as well as the records that define his creative process and career trajectory. He speaks with Chloe Lula live from Polifonic festival about his love of Detroit and Underground Resistance, as well as the abiding influence of hip-hop on his early work and his love of intentionally integrating mistakes in his music. Bosnian-born, Sweden-based producer and jockey Sev Dah has been carving a niche truly personal and distinctive into techno's growingly standardized on and off-stage realm. Boss of his own imprint, Proletarijat, with releases for Mote-Evolver, Random Island or K S R under his belt, Sev has been pushing wares both entrancingly hi-NRG (a nod to the early Schranz heroes) and ruggedly abrasive. The result is an effervescing mishmash of rabid uptempo drives, screwed melodies and fiery rhythmic grids, ready to leave all ravers knocked askew. 

In less than a decade of total devotion to DJing and production, Spanish artist Orbe has dropped more material than some shall ever dream of putting out in a lifetime. Obviously not just quantity, but quality at that, as dispensed through key techno imprints of our age including Axis, Token, Mote-Evolver, Semantica, his own eponymous record label and a host more… Clocking in with a fierce and untamed two-hour sonic safari spanning vast expanses and more claustrophobic spaces, Orbe treats us to a mind-altering whirlwind of echoes and signals, where big-room thrillers rub shoulders with off-piste explorations and brutalist plications. This one hits hard.

VIL is known as a core member of the Portuguese outfit HAYES, and has released music on Ben Klock's Klockworks, Ben Sims' Hardgroove, Shlomi Aber's Be As One, and TWR72's Float amongst others. “The Reaction” has a shuffling and quirky rhythm with deep, floating chords and electric elements creating a unique vibe. Also from Spain, Psyk is the Non Series label owner whose back catalogue includes Tresor, Luke Slater's Mote Evolver, Scuba's Hotflush, Reeko's Mental Disorder and Chris Liebing's CLR to name only a few. Psyk's impressive remix of “The Reaction” succeeds in expanding distinct electric fragments from the original into a tapestry of organic, modular soundscapes. Before discovering the world of electronic music, Wise came from a background of drum and percussion which was guided by his Iranian father who was a professional drummer. Wise's 'quality over quantity' mindset has seen him become a mainstay on influential labels such as Mote Evolver and BluePrint which has led him to work with some of the most respected names in the industry. We've got a massive premiere to kick off the week as legendary UK techno producer Planetary Assault Systems steps up to remix Italian producer Mattia Trani. The Mote Evolver boss gives ‘One More Step' the P.A.S. treatment as he steps up with a hammering rework, leaning on pummeling low-end and relentless percussive workouts. We premiere the track alongside the music video on our Youtube channel. Pushmaster Discs and Mattia Trani present one of the most authoritative techno remix LPs of the year as the Italian producer showcases a rework compilation of his last album “Scenery”. Mattia invited his favourite producers of the past and present to create their own vision of his music. The remix album is due 30 June and will be released on vinyl, split in 3 parts, and digital. The LP presents remixes from a broad spectrum of techno producers, spanning various sounds, textures, eras, and flavours, the LP is an all-encompassing look into Mattia Trani's influences and vision of techno. The LP presents remixes from Robert Hood, Ken Ishii, Marcel Dettmann, Paul Ritch, Luigi Madonna, Lee Ann Roberts, & more. We present the remix from modern-day legend Planetary Assault Systems aka Luke Slater. The UK techno don conjures up a classic-sounding P.A.S. rework, leaning into percussively functional tracks in his arsenal that have been wrecking dancefloors within recent years. Slater show's shades of early Mills on his remix, jacking up the swing and intensity, creating a whirlpool of scrambling percussive intensity. Slater doesn't hold back, presenting one of his most intense pieces of works as of late, dialling up the distortion and picking up the pace for an in-your-face techno weapon. Camila Milieme has been playing techno long enough to experience a few of its boom-and-bust cycles. Starting off in Brazil in the late '90s with the kind of rippling, tooly techno you'd expect from that era, Milieme lost interest once things started going minimal and took a break from techno to take up studying instead. By the time she checked back in, the genre had taken a turn closer to the stuff she used to play, so she packed up her bags and moved to Berlin, where she's become an indispensable part of the techno scene. As The Lady Machine, Milieme has released on Mote-Evolver and also runs her own label, Unterwegs, with UK producer Decka. As you'll hear on her RA Podcast, she prefers a classicist (yet, still, modern) style of techno that mixes toughness with texture and detail. With plenty of unreleased tracks from her cohort and tracks from British Murder Boys, Jeff Mills, Dave Clark and Christian Wunsch, this is a timeless techno mix for heads from any generation, from the '90s to the '20s. @theladymachine Read more: https://ra.co/podcast/840

Andrew Shobeiri AKA @renewise flaunts an artistic flair rare for his years. Possessing an uncanny ability to create a sound that fuses hip-shak-ing grooves with a raw but modern touch, Wise breeds a deep sense of knowledge and maturity beyond what you'd expect for an artist of his age. His ear for infectious rhythm derives from a love of classic 90's era techno, always being drawn to the relentless energy felt in the faster tempos. These influences can be heard throughout his productions and selections as a DJ, winning him a growing fanbase of peers and music lovers alike. 2018 saw the UK-born DJ/producer leaving a strong impression. A dig- ital EP on Mark Broom's Beardman imprint and his first official 12' inch release on the highly respected Mote-Evolver, run by techno pioneer Luke Slater, gained huge reactions from the likes of Rødhad, Freddy K, Blawan and DVS1. The high level of support has continued into 2019, with white label tracks featuring in sets from Kr!z & Dustin Zahn, among others. On the road Wise has made regular appearances at Jaded, London's Sunday after-hours haven while his Berghain sets have undoubtedly grabbed the attention of the committed Berlin reveler. Rene Wise, real name Andrew Shobeiri. The British producer has already racked up a mighty impressive list of achievements, including releases on Mark Broom's Beardman Recordings and Luke Slater's Mote Evolver label. He's also taken on set at Berghain twice, and on his second occasion, playing the opening set. He's managed to achieve this at the ripe old age of 22, which I think is astounding. His music could simply be described as "body music". Its pacey, refreshing contemporary techno and undeniably groovy. @renewise Rene's bio: Possessing an uncanny ability to create a sound that fuses hip-shaking grooves with a raw but modern touch, Wise breeds a deep sense of knowledge and maturity beyond what you'd expect for an artist of his age. His ear for infectious rhythm derives from a love of classic 90's era techno, always being drawn to the relentless energy felt in the faster tempos. These influences can be heard throughout his productions and selections as a DJ, winning him a growing fanbase of peers and music lovers alike. 2018 saw the UK-born DJ/producer leaving a strong impression. A digital EP on Mark Broom's Beardman imprint and his first official 12' inch release on the highly respected Mote-Evolver, run by techno pioneer Luke Slater, gained huge reactions from the likes of Rødhad, Freddy K, Blawan and DVS1. The high level of support has continued into 2019, with white label tracks featuring in sets from Kr!z & Dustin Zahn, among others. On the road Wise has made regular appearances at Jaded, London's Sunday after-hours haven while his Berghain sets have undoubtedly grabbed the attention of the committed Berlin reveler. Berlin-based dj and techno producer savas pascalidis has been steadily making his mark in underground electronic music circles since his first releases in the mid-90s. He runs his own label sweatshop and spins at various clubs worldwide. Enthralled by the music of labels like Prelude, Westend, Salsoul, Rams Horn, DJ International, Trax Records in the early 80s, he started to collect and spin records from Hip Hop, Electro, Rare Grooves, Disco, Funk, Hi-NRG, Acid, House, Rave, EBM and Techno through the 90’s and he has spent all his life exploring all facets of underground dance music Born in south germany and later moved to berlin, the well-traveled DJ has been among the restless and classically minded members of the dance music community over the last decades. Rooted in the pioneering techno innovations and influenced by the likes of Underground Resistance, 430 West. KMS, Relief, Dance Mania, Metroplex, Jeff Mills, DBX, Robert Hood, Joey Beltram and many more he developed skills that led him into producing records and made a name for himself since the mid ’90s Techno scene with a series of dark, loopy and groove driven dancefloor orientated techno music. Pure and simple. But above all he is a DJ, transformed by music, passionate about the crowd.. Yet he is also a discoverer of old and new sounds, and has an rich musical culture. His releases earned him a reputation for being something of a dance music purist. With his over 25 years experience of playing and collecting records, with a huge vinyl collection of approximately more than 25,000 Records, his sets comprise a wide range of the most important currents electronic music went through over the last 25 years. His energetic sets are based on classic hypnotic US-techno, deep and heavy grooves with a touch of stronger non-vocal house tracks. Another example of his DJ integrity is the fact that he still prefering the qualities of vinyl and has never played any kind of music in digital form Throughout a career spanning many decades he has worked to main-tain a constant flow of creativity within the house and techno sphere. Radial is the main pseudonym of Jeroen Liebregts from The Netherlands. Jeroen has been djing since '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. Today, 11 years later, label is still running strong with over 40 vinyl releases and counting. Always driven to dive deeper, Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer. Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases. There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc-Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Audio Assault and most recently Mord. Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial, is without doubt a gigantic stone in the modern techno industry with numerous of legendary productions and gigs at the best record labels and clubs. Ladies and gents, what a show we have for you! Next in The Erratic Podcast we are proud to introduce JEFF RUSHIN. Hailing straight from Amsterdam, he's one of the new generation artists coming out of the Dutch capital in the last decade. Former promoter, fantastic dj, and excellent producer Jeff truly knows how to communicate with the audience, both inside the booth and in the studio. One of his most lauded works to date is his 2014 mega track "Infiltrate", which catapulted him to the forefront and was played time and time again all across the globe. Last year in 2015 he released an astounding EP on Luke Slater's Mote Evolver, A Figment of His Imagination, further solidifying him as an excellent talent. In 2016 he's released in ARTS and Weekend Circuit, both works being as what's to be expected from him - poignant and exceptional. Mixes from this man come few and apart, so we are very glad to feature one of his rare and extremely superlative hours of techno. As any proper techno fan will know, Sterac is an alias of the legendary Dutch man Steve Rachmad and it has been since the 90s. Over the years, Sterac has been responsible for some classics of the genre (including the peerless album Secret Life of Machines), and recently he has been back working under the moniker on labels like Klockworks, Delsin and Mote Evolver. He also records as Sterac Electronics, however, an ever lesser used alias that is more focussed on electro sounds. As Sterac and Sterac Electronics his output joins the dots between Detroit and the Netherlands, both in the studio and the DJ booth. This podcast comes from Sterac Electronics in the wake of Dekmantel relaxing a short documentary about Steve, his musical taste, influences and views on DJing, and just ahead of him playing the Selectors stage at the festival later in the year. Starting with some glittery disco, the summery selection then dips its toe into frazzled 80s synths, dancing arps, tooting trumpets and the sweetest of vocal tracks. It’s jammed packed with floor filling gold from the disco world and is an impressive detour from the techno sound most people know him for. Stick this one on and it is sure to get your hips moving and your mouth smiling.

Hello followers, we are back after traveling and spending some time in mystical India. Our guest for today is BLNDR(@blndr) from France. This week’s episode is a mystical performance by our friend from across the borders. Don’t hesitate to let your mind drift away with the music. ¤¤¤¤Q&A¤¤¤¤ Monument: How did your interest in techno music come about? BLNDR: I started listening to electronic music in 2007 when "Justice" first album "cross" came out . It was a revelation that made my interest in electronic music grow! Then I started listening to larger genre such as techno and house. My interest in techno really came out when I discovered Underground resistance's Nation 2 Nation EP. M: Give us a briefing about the labels that you are on (Container and Hypnus records) B: Container & Hypnus are two realy different things . Container is a collective that gather techno lovers, producers, graphic designers and party organizers. With that team we are able organize our own techno parties in Paris and it’s suburbs! Hypnus is the label where i will release my first EP really soon! It is a Swedish label that shows an interest in deep hypnotic techno. I am really proud to be part of the Hypnus team. Lots of talents... and a great boss :) M: What inspires you musically? B: I am really inspired by the Industrial vibe you can find on the techno scene today. Metallic Dark & cold tracks... With also strong inspiration from the Dub, acid, deep & mental techno. But when it comes to DJing i sometimes like to play really hard sest with fast BPM. Classic Rave Acid tracks mixed with recent techno artists such as Truncate, Psyk or Luke Slater. M: Give us your take on the techno scene today B: The Techno scene today is really inspiring for me... so many great producers & labels. I'd say my top five label of the moment are: Mote Evolver, Prologue, Sandwell district, Stroboscopic artefact & Avian. M: What is your favorite record of all time? B: Quite difficult question... It might be "The Campfire headphase" by Board of Canada... Enjoy! Hailing from Rotterdam, with many years of tenure, and impeccable releases on Perc Trax, Mote Evolver, Gynoid, Blank Code and his own Audio Assault and the brand new Mord (read RA feature), we are extremely proud to present BAS MOOY. Between his private life and busy touring schedule, he was kind enough to weave together an stunning, top-of-the-class, and exclusive 2-hour journey for us, which we couldn't be any more grateful for it.
