In the first episode of 2022, we are fortunate enough to speak with Spencer Arnold of Hebron Christian in Dacula, Ga. Spencer is the S&C coach who is doing some amazing work through VBT or Velocity Based Training using the Perch System which I was fortunate enough to see in person. It is an awesome program and he even incorporates it with Human A&P and AP Statistics classes with the data they use and teaching the human body. Spencer is also the owner/operator of Power and Grace Performance which is a gym in Snellville, and he coaches 3 OLYMPIANS who all competed this past summer in Tokyo, and one of them placed for a silver medal. Please give this one a listen, subscribe, and share with a friend! Questions from today's episode: Tell us a little bit about who you are At what point did you realize that you wanted to be in a weight room full time and helping athletes become bigger, stronger and faster? Where did you first get certified? Who was your favorite weight training coach growing up and why? What is your morning routine like on a school day? Have you had to teach in 50 minute periods vs 90 minute periods, if so how do you change what you do in the weight room/classroom? When do you start your offseason plan and walk us through your periodization of offseason vs in season? What is your weekly in season routine for athletes? What is your gameday lift for other athletes? Do you prefer to train teams in the morning or afternoon? How do you educate kids on nutrition, rest, and recovery? Within your offseason, what does a typical summer plan look like? Do you believe in position specific lifts and if so what are they? What is your favorite bible verse, when did it become your favorite and what made you choose it? What was it like at the Olympics this year and how did you initially start coaching your athlete? How did you become so obsessed with coffee?

Today we're talking with someone who loves the Bible like no one we have met. Spencer Arnold is a former competitive weightlifter and coach for some of the US's best weightlifting athletes, including Olympians, Weightlifting World Record Holders, and CrossFit Athletes. He's been part of the FAITH RXD family for a while and has coached at almost every training camp we've produced. You'd think we'd spend time discussing 2020, how competitions were moved online, and the secrets to improving your snatch; but we didn't go near those topics. Instead, we stayed pretty on point with Spencer's favorite subject: The Bible and who it's about. If you're interested in hearing more about his lifting and training philosophy, you can check out Power and Grace Performance, his training and coaching business, or search for him on your favorite podcast platform. There's several interviews out there where he goes in depth on fitness. Something Spencer and Lindsey discussed after recording this interview is doing a series or seminar called How to Read the Bible. If this is something you would be interested in, or have a topic you'd like us to cover, please shoot her an email at lindsey@faithrxd.org. Lots coming up! To stay in the know, make sure you're following us on Instagram or Facebook, you can find our accounts @faithrxd or you can sign-up for our newsletter at www.faithrxd.org. Below is the orgional show notes from 2 years ago. Joe Williams is a good friend of mine and has been one of my coaches and mentors for almost 3 years. I was very excited to talk to him and had a lot of fun recording this episode. We talk about what got him started on CrossFit after not finding the results he read about in fitness magazines and videos he watched on the Internet. The opportunity to open his own gym and start coaching transitioned to being a big part of Power and Grace Performance and working with some of the best CrossFitters and weightlifters in the world. Joe is a wealth of knowledge. His day job is teaching college classes about the human body. He takes the things he has learned as a teacher and applies them to his coaching. Episode was first released Dec 30 2015.
We are in Colorado for the first stop of the Driven Series talking with Ursula Garza Papandrea(Head Coach of Texas Barbell Club), Colin Burns(2014 national champion and record holder in snatch), Spencer Arnold(Owner of Power and Grace Performance), and Cortney Batchelor(Pan Am and World Team Member) about USAW, Texas Barbell Club and why they have become so dominate in the sport.
