Send us Fan Mail Part 1 of 2. Ok, so maybe this is not a new "method", idea, or approach to the game. But it was definitely a breakthrough for some shooters that vastly improved their performance and the ability to repeat that performance. So we titled it "The SDS method", which stand for Slow Down Stupid! There is a LOT to unpack here, and we were not able to get it all in one episode. However, this 2 part episode is something you will want to listen to again and again, study it, and use it for yourself! This episode is the full breakdown — what periodization actually is, why it doesn't work for tactical populations, and what to do instead. What we get into:Defining the thing first — because not a single person in the online discourse could do it. The NSCA definition: the logical and systematic process of sequencing training interventions to achieve peak performance at appropriate time points. Every version of periodization, whether block, linear, nonlinear, conjugate, or West Side, shares the same five assumptions. The most important one: that biological adaptations follow a predictable course. They don't.Why periodization is a Soviet export — and what that means. Most of the foundational periodization literature is mapping sports science onto communist economic planning. General adaptation syndrome is not a predictive model. It's a descriptive model. Hans Selye never explained what makes something stressful, never told you how much stress causes adaptation, and never specified when the resistance phase begins or ends. Also, his exhaustion phase was death. Not fatigue. Death. The field of stress physiology left him behind decades ago.The Milo and the bull problem — and why progressive overload is almost universally misunderstood. Milo didn't get stronger because the bull got bigger. He was able to lift the bigger bull because he got stronger. The causal arrow runs the other way. What to do instead — navigating versus forecasting. Shorten the prediction window to what the environment actually allows you to control. A week at a time. The low-hanging fruit problem. You've got people debating intricately periodized strength plans for soldiers who are failing a two-mile run where the passing standard is a ten-minute mile pace. That's what this conversation is really about. Also in this episode:Joey Chestnut vs. Usain Bolt in the Glizzy Gauntlet — one hot dog, then a hundred meters. In B2B, people buy from people, even when it's a corporation selling through a corporation to another corporation. In this episode of Content Amplified, Richard Hutton, Associate Vice President of Demand Generation at Sharp, explains how his team shifted from slick, highly produced product content to human-led stories, and why engagement went up when they did. Richard shares the standout example: instead of the usual flying-through-a-galaxy corporate video at the NSCA business leadership conference, his team asked sellers across the country to film one-minute clips on their phones, stitched them together, and watched the room light up recognizing familiar faces. He also takes on the "marketing's not my job" objection with a simple reframe (everyone is in sales), makes the case for case studies built around human outcomes instead of specs, explains why 20 great conversations at a regional event beat 3,000 badge scans at a big trade show, and shares his brand-guardrail philosophy: skip the 16 pages of rules and just tell people to make good choices. If you want your whole team creating content that actually sounds like them, this episode shows you how.About RichardRichard Hutton is the Associate Vice President of Demand Generation at Sharp, where he leads a channel-oriented team marketing both through partners and to end clients in the audio visual industry. He joined NEC Display Solutions ten years ago and moved to Sharp when it purchased NEC through a joint venture, and before that he spent years running channel marketing at Samsung. His path into marketing was anything but typical: he started out as a psychiatric nurse and music promoter before landing in IT distribution, where he worked through purchasing, sales, and marketing roles. Show Notes“I didn't really hear of a lot of women and moms who were head strength and conditioning coaches. So, I kind of had to lean on other industries, like our head athletic trainer at the time. She's a mom, and she kind of was in the same boat. But then slowly but surely, I've made connections over the years now and seeing that there are a lot more moms in this position. But I think the biggest thing for me is like the village I have.” 8:40 “I'm using technology in my way of adding more content to my list, making sure that they're actually getting what we need out of the list to get the adaptations we need. So, you know, even if we're doing like a quick ten yard sprint, like even putting the gates on, it makes them want to do that competition game with each other [...] Especially when you have female athletes who don't lift as heavy as they should. They're stronger than they think. And we know that and we try to push them. I think the VBT gives them more objective information of like, am I lifting in the range I need to? And so I've used it more for the intent piece.” 13:20 “How did you get involved? What are you doing to volunteer? Because I want to see what that's like. I actually reached out to the Southern California director at the time, and it was actually going to be held at San Diego. And I just said, hey, do you need any student volunteers? I'm willing to drive down and help out. And so I'm pretty sure I drove down by myself. I didn't really have I didn't really know anyone at the time I had started grad school, my husband came down with me, booked a hotel, and I was there, the whole Southern California conference. But I told myself my goal that day was, I'm going to talk to every single speaker at that event. I'm going to connect with every single speaker. Like, this is where my connections begin.” 17:10

Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!How to become a successful personal trainer vol 2 has an entire chapter on getting clients - 10 R's of getting clients. If you want to become a successful personal trainer, start by reading the book, not an 800 page textbook. You can be an amazing trainer and still struggle to get clients if your marketing is built on hope instead of systems. I'm sharing a simple referral strategy that consistently brings in high-quality leads: build real partnerships with chiropractors (and other allied pros), then make it easy and profitable for them to send people your way. It's not about begging for referrals. It's about showing up like a business professional and creating a clean, repeatable process that benefits the client, the chiropractor, and your coaching. We get tactical with what to say, how to say it, and where most trainers lose the deal. I walk through two approaches: paying for an initial chiropractic assessment to build trust fast, or starting lean with Instagram DMs and multiple follow-ups. You'll hear why directness matters, how to offer a complimentary workout without sounding passive, and how to set the precedent that your relationship is long-term and collaborative. Then we do the numbers. If you spend a few hundred dollars on an assessment and a lunch but land one 72-session package, the ROI can dwarf what you'd ever see from random ads. I also explain a smart package structure where the chiropractor keeps a premium for referring, why “go for no” follow-up wins, and how to position yourself as more than the stereotype of a trainer with selfies and weak anatomy knowledge. If you want more personal training clients, better client referrals, and a stronger network in your local fitness market, listen through and take notes. Subscribe, share this with a trainer friend who needs leads, and leave a review with the outreach step you're committing to this week.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? Episode 408: In August 2015, 22-year-old Dalhousie University physics student Taylor Samson walked into an apartment on Henry Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia, carrying 20 pounds of marijuana. He never walked out. What followed became one of Nova Scotia's most closely watched murder cases. William “Will” Sandeson — a former university track athlete and incoming medical student — was arrested days later. Surveillance footage showed Samson entering Sandeson's apartment. Blood and DNA evidence tied the scene to a fatal gunshot. Samson's body was never recovered. This is the story of Taylor Samson's disappearance, and the long road to justice for his killer.
