After the Navy, he played one year of college football at the University of Akron but had to cut his career short, due to employment with the Akron Fire Department. This began, a fun period of semi-pro play and a variety of combines from California to Virginia and even at Canton, Ohio where at 46 years old, he was drafted by the Erie Freeze (Arena 2) but was cut when he was found to be 10 years older than the head coach! As a coach, Shafer worked with the storied Massillon Tigers, home of Paul Brown. It was during this time, that he and his partner David Abdul, developed the Launch Pad Kick Off Tee. This tee was used in the combine that got Shafer drafted at age 46! Shafer has enjoyed coaching players in the youth flag leagues and with Massillon and on his own locally, with kickers trying to get to the next level, with notable success. What an inspiring episode we have for you today! Coach Dan Fodrocy is my guest coming all of the way from up in Michigan! He and I talked several weeks ago about his philosophy of leadership, and what made him want to get out of coaching after 15 seasons. You can follow him on Twitter at @Fodrocy1156 and you can listen to his podcast HERE . He emailed us a little piece about himself: I just finished a 15 year career coaching college football and as I was considering what to do next and I knew one thing, I still loved the game. I love what the game provided me, I loved the good influences I had and still wanted to be involved in that someway. I always remember what a really good coach told me one day. "Coaching football is about standing in front of a group of men." Now if women become more prevalent as happened Saturday, then awesome. But I sit back and listen to sports being discussed on major sports networks or social media and I see so much misinformation being put out there. Ultimately the misinformation I see is about leadership. It seems to me all the time that people want to say "kids these days..." and frankly I just don't get it, it's not the kids, it's us adults. It's the leaders guiding these kids that make awful decisions or it's the adults at major sports networks choosing which "opinion" or "story" is the most important. So many times they don't cover the actual facts of the story. To me that's frustrating and I wanted to try and talk about it to whoever may want to listen.

We have probably our most decorated guest, especially our first ever from a professional standpoint on with us today. 1973 Masters Champion Tommy Aaron joined us for a sit down interview at his home several weeks ago. I would like to thank Tommy again for such a great time and sharing some very cool stories with all of us! Here is a sample of his Wikipedia page: Aaron turned pro in 1960. His first professional victory came at the 1969 Canadian Open. Although the event is historically considered a PGA Tour event it was not that year. The following year he gained his first PGA Tour victory at the Atlanta Classic. In 1972, he won the Trophée Lancôme in France. Aaron's best money year was 1972, when he finished in ninth place on the PGA Tour money list. Aaron won the Masters Tournament in 1973, which was his one major championship. He also finished in the top ten at the Masters from 1967 to 1970. His only other top ten major championship finishes came at the PGA Championship in 1965 and 1972. In 2000, he made the cut at the Masters at the age of 63, breaking a record previously held by Gary Player. Aaron played for the U.S. team in the Ryder Cup in 1969 and 1973, and had a record of one win, one tie and four losses. In the 1980s and 1990s, Aaron played on the Senior PGA Tour, winning $3,646,302. The 1992 Kaanapali Classic was his last professional win. Aaron was a student of golf instructor Manuel de la Torre.
