What does it take to drive meaningful change in healthcare when systems feel broken and institutional betrayal runs deep? Dr. Jessica Bunin, a retired Army Colonel with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, joins Dr. Andrea Austin to discuss her remarkable journey from psychiatrist to critical care physician and senior academic leader. Through compelling stories; including dramatically reducing ICU central line infections by empowering unexpected team members, Jessica reveals how shifting from “extreme ownership” to true team-building, practicing moral courage, and mastering civil discourse can rebuild trust and create healthier healthcare cultures. The conversation explores self-awareness as the foundation of effective leadership, the CLEAR framework for civil discourse, navigating institutional betrayal, and why leadership development must become central to medical education. You'll hear how they: Address institutional betrayal and moral injury by focusing on micro-cultures and small-team empowerment Build high-impact teams by including unexpected voices and shifting from doing things to people to doing things with them Practice moral courage in everyday healthcare settings, from challenging hierarchy to protecting patient safety Use the CLEAR framework (Create safety, Listen actively, Establish common ground, Adjust thinking, Respond skillfully) for productive conversations across difference Develop self-aware leaders who build trust and drive system-level transformation About the Guests “Civil discourse is our way forward.” – Dr. Jessica Bunin Dr. Jessica Bunin is a retired Army Colonel, critical care physician, and former psychiatrist with 23 years of service including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. She has held numerous leadership roles in academic medicine including critical care program director, assistant dean of faculty development, associate dean of DEI and community, and professor of medicine and health professions education. She is the co-founder and Chief Architect of All Levels Leadership, an International Coaching Federation certified executive leadership coach, and the author of the upcoming book From the Inside Out: How Self-Aware Leaders Build Trust and Transform Healthcare.

Reaching 1,200 episodes feels like the perfect excuse to look back at where it all began. Over the years, there have been conversations that made me laugh, made me think, and a few that deserved far more attention than they received the first time around. So this week, I'm opening the vault. Each day, I'll be re-releasing one favorite episode from the archives. Some are memorable classics, others are hidden gems, but every one of them still has something worth sharing today. First up: if the words Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles instantly got your attention, you're going to enjoy this one. Originally released as Episode 19 in early 2010, this conversation with Jay Mattingly takes a fun and unexpected look at DISC profiles through the personalities of everyone's favorite crime-fighting turtles. It's lighthearted, clever, and packed with insights you can still use today. Some business lessons come from spreadsheets. Others come from pizza-loving, crime-fighting turtles. I sat down with Jay Mattingly, our director of marketing, and somehow we ended up deep in the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And honestly, it made more sense than you'd think. We were talking about DiSC profiles and Jay had one of those “wait a minute” moments. The turtles are basically a perfect personality map. If you remember them, you probably already know where this is going.Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello weren't just different. They were different on purpose. And that's where this gets interesting for business owners. Every team needs a Raphael The fast decision-maker. He jumps in, takes action, and yes, sometimes ruffles feathers. That's your D personality. You may not always love the delivery, but you'll love the momentum. Don't underestimate your Michelangelo He's the fun one, the energy, the morale booster. High I personalities keep the team connected and engaged. Without them, work gets done, but it's a grind. Your Donatello keeps you out of trouble Detail-focused, thoughtful, and maybe a little cautious. That C personality is the reason your big ideas don't fall apart under pressure. Leadership doesn't always look loud Leonardo leads, but not by overpowering the room. He's steady, supportive, and steps up when needed. That S personality often becomes the glue that holds everything together. Who are the Turtles on Your Team? The turtles worked because they were different, not in spite of it. They respected each other when it mattered, even if they drove each other a little crazy along the way. Sound familiar? If your team feels a bit like herding turtles some days, you're probably doing it right. The goal isn't to make everyone think the same. It's to understand how they think so you can work better together. Because in business, just like in cartoons, the magic isn't in one personality. It's in the mix.

Send us a textMicromanagement can't fix burnout, noise, or fragmented teams—and perks won't, either. We sat down with inclusive leadership expert Kelli Lester to show how clear vision, better questions, and real follow‑through unlock performance across stressed, remote, multi‑gen workplaces. From aligning on what “empowerment” actually means to closing the loop on engagement data, we unpack specific plays you can run this week to build trust and ship results. We start by reframing the manager's job: know your people as individuals, not personas. Kelli shares practical ways to discover what motivates each person—recognition, time, money, learning—and how those drivers shift with life stage. We dig into remote realities where new hires change team chemistry and “breaking bread” moments are rare, then map out rituals that create connection on purpose: pre‑reads for introverts, rotating facilitation, designed in‑person time, and consistent one‑on‑ones that end with clear commitments. We also tackle proximity bias and why visibility must be engineered, not left to chance. The heart of the episode is a simple engine: ask, define, decide, and deliver. Ask better questions than generic surveys. Define shared terms like respect and empowerment so expectations are aligned. Decide on actions that leverage strengths as much as they fix gaps. Deliver by closing the loop—communicate what you heard, what you'll do, and what won't change. Along the way, Kelly explains why self‑awareness is the top leadership skill, how to amplify quieter voices without putting them on the spot, and how pairing diverse thinkers produces stronger decisions and faster execution. If you're building fast and want your culture to compound, this conversation is your blueprint—practical, human, and immediately usable. Subscribe for more bold, unfiltered strategies, share this with someone scaling a team, and tell us: what does empowerment look like for you right now?

In this episode, REB's Liam Garman is joined by the CEO of Laing+Simmons and president of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), Leanne Pilkington, to talk about the challenges and opportunities facing the Australian real estate industry. The duo starts by discussing the upcoming Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) reforms, set to take effect in July 2026, which will require agencies to register as reporting entities and implement policies aligned with AUSTRAC's requirements. Leanne stresses that while some businesses may manage compliance internally, complex transactions involving foreign investors will need more rigorous checks, and external support may be necessary. She highlighted that AI and automation can streamline compliance and property management, allowing agents to focus on client relationships. She further emphasised the importance of building a cohesive team culture through understanding individual motivations, hiring aligned with company values, and clear communication of vision. With coaching changes, free agency and the draft in the rear view mirror most rosters are set heading into training camp. Matt Harmon and Scott Pianowski reveal Yahoo's Fantasy Football Team Power Rankings for all 32 teams. Harmon breaks the 32 rankings into 3 tiers: The bottom tier, middle tier, top tier. The bottom tier being offenses that look like a mess or are complete unknown based on changes made this offseason. The middle tier is teams with potentially high ceilings but also very low floors with likely a few reliable fantasy starters. The top tier being teams with the majority of their skill players being dependable fantasy starters. Harmon and Pianowski explain why the Jets are still not in the top tier and why the Chiefs are not a top five fantasy offense.
