English musician Graham Lewis is a founding member of the legendary post-punk band Wire. Known for his minimal yet charged presence as bassist, vocalist, and lyricist, Graham helped shape the band's stark aesthetic since 1976. Beyond Wire, he's explored experimental sound through projects like Dome, He Said, Hox, and UUUU. An art school background and fascination with the underground shaped his career. Graham is based in Uppsala, Sweden.
British post-punk superstars Wire always seem to be ahead of their time, no matter what time they exist in. Returning guest Garry Messick (American Doom Podcast) brings us their twelfth studio album, 2011's mysteriously diverse, surprisingly melodic 'Red Barked Tree'. 34 years into their career at the time of its release, Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey STILL manage to make quite a racket, and it's a beautiful racket indeed... In this episode of INSIGHTS, I have the utter pleasure of sitting down with one of the most extraordinary and well-respected percussionists and composers of our era. Valentina Magaletti's singular hypnotic rhythms are the driving force behind a staggering amount of musical projects, including Vanishing Twin, Moin, Holy Tongue, Tomaga and, most recently, V/Z and CZN. She has also worked with the likes of Lafawndah, upsammy, Mica Levi, Sampha, Kamasi Washington, and Nicolas Jaar, as well as stalwarts of the experimental underground scene like Gnod's Marlene Ribeiro and Wire's Graham Lewis, even participating in The Can Project at London's Barbican Centre in 2017.Over the course of this interview, Valentina discusses using the drums as a vehicle for self-expression, the importance of channeling varied conversations via different musical projects, her musical influences ranging from Velvet Underground and Art Blakey to J Dilla and Sonia Pottinger, writing and performing with Vanishing Twin, Moin, Holy Tongue, V/Z, CZN and what the future has in store for each project. To finish, Valentina discuss her and her partner's new label and micro-publisher Permanent Draft and their forthcoming book documenting over two thousand female, trans and non-binary artists in experimental music, pursuing a career as a full time musician and some current favourite Bandcamp picks!Clips of 'Habadash' by V/Z featuring Cathy Lucas and 'Born To Snap' by CZN are used at the beginning and end of this podcast.SUPPORT VALENTINA MAGALETTI:Buy Music Club: https://www.buymusic.club/list/awakeallhours-insights-024-valentina-magaletti-Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/valentina_magaletti/

SAN ONOFRE-Tangled up in Wire Onofrita interviú a Graham Lewis, hombre de Wire, Dome... SAN ONOFRE, de milton a milton y me tiro a Graham Lewis porque me toca. Calvas, claro. Me lo dijo Adela el propio G: "Tocaremos cielo". Yup, you can say that again, matey mate. Bien, Graham Lewis, majo, parafraseando a tu compatriota Las Redondas Gafas, "We can get married in Gibraltar, near Spain". Won´t takle no for an answer, amigo. Balls on your court, then, see what you make of it. We expect nothing but the very worst. Bona nit and ta very much, luv.

RockerMike and Rob discuss the band Wire. Wire are an English rock band, formed in London in October 1976 by Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), Bruce Gilbert (guitar) and Robert Grey (drums). They were originally associated with the punk rock scene, appearing on The Roxy London WC2 album, and were later central to the development of post-punk, while their debut album Pink Flag was influential for hardcore punk. Wire are considered a definitive art punk and post-punk band, due to their richly detailed and atmospheric sound and obscure lyrical themes. They steadily developed from an early noise rock style to a more complex, structured sound involving increased use of guitar effects and synthesizers (1978's Chairs Missing and 1979's 154). The band gained a reputation for experimenting with song arrangements throughout its career. http://pinkflag.com/ https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/wire-reflect-on-40-years-as-punks-ultimate-cult-band-128633/amp/ https://www.facebook.com/WIRE.pinkflag?__cmr=1&refsrc=deprecated&_rdr https://mobile.twitter.com/wirehq https://www.billboard.com/amp/articles/columns/rock/8462176/wire-interview-reissues Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ https://app.hashtag.expert/?fpr=roberto-rossi80 https://dc2bfnt-peyeewd4slt50d2x1b.hop.clickbank.net https://8bcded2xph1jdsb8mqp8th3y0n.hop.clickbank.net/?cbpage=nb Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #punkstyle #punk #punkrock #punkfashion #punkgirl #punkmusic #punkhair #rockmusic #rock #rockstar #rockandroll #tokyorocknroll #rocknrollchurch #rockhound --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support

We listened to Wire's, Pink Flag from 1977. An art school band to the core who got serious with punk and six months later they record this kind of genius. Everything mashed together, no hierarchy, constant reinvention, don't copy the Sex Pistols, create a new genre for christ sakes. Everyone else, give up. Stay glued to you TV set.
