Lads lads lads! Nicola's off to Japan, so Running Is BS's Stewart Harding fills in. There's Map Men, a brief overview of a couple of weekend things, phallic things, Stewart dared to go to Aberdare parkrun and Danny just couldn't face touring for once.
Welcome to Episode 067 of Deeper Sounds of Nairobi, recorded straight from Milan. This week's mix is a sonic journey through the finest in Amapiano, Afro House, and Deep House, featuring a stellar lineup of artists pushing the boundaries of sound. We kick things off with Shallipopi before diving into the lush, emotive soundscapes of Babalwa M, Kelvin Momo, Stixx, and Baby S.O.N. Expect deep grooves from BitterSoul x D'Tuned Affair, high-energy rhythms from Kamo Mphela, EeQue, TOSS, Thebuu & Eltee, and soulful melodies courtesy of Frigid Armadillo x Sun-El Musician. Kenyan heat is well represented with DJ Mura K.E, Saint Evo x Labdi, alongside powerful collaborations like SURAJ, Fadhilee & Tefo Foxx and BlaQRhythm x Maline Aura. We round it all off with masterful cuts from Balcony Mix Africa, Atmos Blaq, Major League Djz, the deep textures of Blackwhole x Jullian Gomes, and the unmistakable sounds of Thakzin x Divine Keys. Closing out the session is a gem from DJ Fita with Aberdare. Lock in, turn it up, and let the journey begin. Turn up the volume, let the music take over, and enjoy the Deeper Sounds of Nairobi experience!

Jonathan Thomas looks at the history and work of the Salvation Army in Wales as it celebrates 150 years since its first mission to Cardiff, followed later by missions to Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and many other towns around Wales. Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Roberts is the Army's current leader in Wales, and he gives his account of some of the movement's early days, as well as outlining its work today. Captain Canon Kathryn Stowers is the Army's Ecumenical Officer for Wales, and she talks about the organisation's radical views on the empowerment of women - it was women who led the Army's early missions to Merthyr, for example. Professor Paul O'Leary of the University of Aberystwyth has studied street processions in Wales, and explains why evangelising on the streets was such a provocative initiative that challenged Victorian notions of respectability. Historically the Salvation Army's uniform has been a huge part of its identity, but as Jennifer Le Zotte explains, there is more to this than meets the eye: in reusing secondhand clothing there was something challenging about this uniform. Even more intriguing is the special uniform for the so-called 'Slum Sisters' who tended to the needs of the very poor. She describes this as 'cross-class drag'! For many of us the Salvation Army is synonymous with brass bands, and Jonathan visits the band of Canton Cardiff Corps to speak to their bandmaster, and to make his own practical contribution!

Day 4 of 12 missing person cases in December. In July of 2019, 33 year old Jordan Moray's family realised that they hadn't heard from him in a while which was unusual. They went to his home in Cwmbach, Aberdare in Wales and found the door unlocked. Inside a playstation was still plugged in and his phone was charging but Jordan was nowhere to be found. He is still a missing person and his family are desperate for answers. Drew is back again this week, joining a croaky post-ultra Nicola for this weeks pod. There's much to discuss following recent events, not in the least, their thoughts on the soon to be released second edition of the parkrun magazine. As ever the pod is full of 'things', arbitrary goodness, and Elliott's stats. It was home-sweet-home for the two of them as Drew returned to Aberdare parkrun, whilst it was all about the puppy love for Nicola at Woodhouse Moor parkrun.
This week, Drew Edwards joins Nicola on the pod and after all the water-based puns from the arbitrary posts, we think Drew took to it like a duck to….. As well as the arbitraries, the pending 500th parkruns for PSHCBEFRSA and JSH, there are your usual parkrun stats and emails where they both learn about the lottery that is the running challenges. Drew profiles Aberdare parkrun whilst Nicola made a day of it when she visited a sunny North Yorkshire Water Park parkrun.
In a bonus episode of the pod, Alex and Tinds visit Aberdare Rugby Club, where they're joined by Wales and Lions prop Wyn Jones, Wales Women's scrum-half Ffion Lewis and former Wales international – and current strength and conditioning coach – Huw Bennett. Their trip to Wales is the latest leg of Vodafone's Lions Legacy Tour, which celebrates the return of grassroots rugby. Wyn reveals what it's really like being part of a Lions squad, Ffion looks forward to the Women's World Cup later this year and Huw recalls some of the fun times had when away, including when he and Warren Gatland pranked a journalist travelling with them.
