Show notes provided by Joe PelusoGathered from the four corners of the cosmos are assembled the world's four greatest podcasters! James! Chris! Richie! and Joe!, banded together to bring you the BIG Fourth Anniversary Episode! of The Secret Origins of Mint Condition!!"! (Cue the theme from The Super-Friends) Dusting off Sherman's and Mr. Peabody's Way-Back Machine, the guys revisit the GREAT Batman v Superman debate from an era when Mint Condition had four walls. To say that this special episode dives deeply into the various eras of the two most iconic fictional characters in all of comics would be a gross understatement of epic proportions! Suffice it to say that this "return" shines new lights and perceptions on who exactly are Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. So much is discussed and disseminated in this episode, that itwould be a crime to reveal the contents and spoil your listeningenjoyment. And while the verbal repartee is measured and respectful, there are a few surprises contained herein that may shock and surprise. And as we now enter year five, I know I speak for all the MintFaithful in publicly thanking James Louie for the creation of thiswonderful digital forum that has kept the spirit of Mint Condition Comics alive. Whoever thought that comic books and CBM's, Star Trek and Star Wars, Magic The Gathering and Pokemon, science fiction and fantasy--and yes--baseball and hockey could engender a universe worth of conversations that would ultimately spark into creation a loving family of friends who always dared to dream? Thanks, James.

Cancer Put Her in a Coma. She Survived. Her Near Death Experience Changed Everything. Mayim Bialik's Breakdown delves into Anita Moorjani's (renowned author, TedX speaker & self-help spiritual speaker) mind-blowing near-death experience (NDE) story and how it completely transformed her cancer, her path to healing & spiritual awakening, and how it changed the way she viewed life after death. Before her miraculous cancer recovery, Anita opens up like never before about the emotional toll of escaping an arranged marriage, her belief that neglecting her own needs while caring for others may have contributed to her cancer, and why living out of alignment with your true self can be toxic (and even deadly). Her integration journey post-NDE wasn't easy. Friends and family treated her like the same person — but she had touched something far greater than this world, and she couldn't go back. Anita Moorjani also breaks down: - Her belief that heaven is not a place, but a state of being - How we're all eternally connected — past, present, and future - Why intuition, self-love, & authenticity are the real medicine we've all been missing - How you're likely manifesting wrong - How Ayurveda and naturopathic healing deeply resonated with her healing journey - Difference between unconditional love (the kind people experience during NDEs) and earthly love - Why deepening your intuition starts with radical self-confidence - How letting go of what isn't authentically you is the key to ultimate healing This is not just a story about cancer — it's a wake-up call about life, death, spiritual awakening and the power of living as your truest self. Tune in to MBB now if you've ever felt stuck, afraid, disconnected, or if you've ever wondered what really happens after we die. On this episode of Data Driven, we venture into the ever-shifting landscape of software engineering, AI-assisted coding, and the sometimes chaotic future of development teams with special guest Thanos Diacakis—no, not the Marvel villain, but a powerhouse in software leadership whose career spans scrappy startups to tech giants like Uber.Hosts Frank La Vigne, Andy Leonard, and resident AI BAILeY welcome Thanos for an insightful, witty, and sometimes philosophical conversation about the promise and perils of AI in software engineering. From the rise (and risks) of “vibe coding” to the changing definition of good engineering, Thanos shares firsthand experiences, pitfalls to avoid, and why solid fundamentals matter now more than ever—even with AI churning out code at lightning speed. We also explore how AI is reshaping workflows for both solo developers and large teams, the difference between local and global efficiency, and how bottlenecks are shifting in this new era. Thanos breaks down his “seven mental models” for effective engineering, demystifies the right way to work with AI tools (instead of letting them run wild), and explains why junior devs still deserve a seat at the table. If you're curious about the real impact of AI-assisted coding, worried about the next wave of software “apocalypse,” or just eager for practical strategies to keep your teams productive and sane, this episode is packed with the wisdom, humor, and actionable takeaways you'll want to hear. Buckle up as we dive deep into the code base—this is Data Driven, where the only thing disappearing is inefficiency.LinksCosmic Teacups: https://www.cosmicteacups.com/The Goal 40th Anniversary Edition: https://amzn.to/4lGhZbI (Amazon affilliate link)The Goal Graphic Novel (Yes, really) https://amzn.to/47ohIXx (Amazon affilliate link)Time Stamps00:00 "Exploring AI Coding with Thanos"05:20 Revolutionizing Productivity with Code08:18 Cross-Platform Utility Development12:14 Database Costs Drop, Demand Surges14:43 Unauthorized Copying of Software Manuals17:54 "Chunked Narratives Enhance LLM Performance"19:43 Grox Impressive Despite Incompletion24:40 Reviving a Startup with AI28:53 Bottleneck Identification and Resolution Strategy29:37 Incremental Improvements Drive Success34:40 Agile's Evolution: Remembering Its Roots38:41 Balancing Features and Tech Debt42:50 Software Estimations: A Management Trap45:55 Managing Project Time Expectations47:47 Trust Building Through Incremental Delivery51:23 Language Models: Human Cognition Parallel?56:04 "Exploring Intelligence: Brains vs. AI"58:06 "Data Driven Episode Conclusion"

This is a special podcast for me. Why? Jon James Smith wrote and directed “Last Orders,” a horror short that took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film - Horror at Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2022. As a London resident, Jon was not able to attend the festival but I made a point to tell him of how well-received the film had been. I invited Jon onto the podcast then and he held off for a great reason. He did not want to Zoom in from London for the interview, he wanted to do it in person. Thankfully Jon's work returned to Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2025 with a new film, “Babushka,” and again he took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Featurette - Horror. But Jon was able to attend FI-LA's 10th Anniversary Edition and, even though I prefer to do nothing the day after a festival wraps... how could I say no to having Jon over to the house to record a podcast? I hope you all enjoy listening to our conversation as much as we enjoyed having it. And a huge thank-you to Jon for being the kind of person who follows through on his intentions with actions! Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 24, 2025 is: panacea pan-uh-SEE-uh noun A panacea is something that is regarded as a cure-all—that is, something that will make everything about a situation better. // The new program should help with the city's housing crisis, but it's no panacea. See the entry > Examples: “It was a mistake to regard and romanticize information as a panacea for the world's problems. For they are completely different things: information, knowledge and wisdom. Every day we are bombarded with thousands of snippets of information, but there is very little knowledge, and no time to slow down to gain knowledge, much less wisdom.” — Elif Shafak, 1984: 75th Anniversary Edition by George Orwell, 2024 Did you know? The maxim “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” isn't true, but belief in a miraculous botanical “cure for whatever ails ya” has existed for millennia and is at the root of the word panacea. In current use, panacea most often refers to a remedy—medical or otherwise—that inevitably falls far short of what some claim or hope it can do, but the word's Latin and Greek forebears referred to plants with legit healing properties, including mints and yarrows. Both the Latin word panacēa and its Greek antecedent panákeia (from the word panakēs, meaning “all-healing”) were applied especially to flowering herbs (genus Opopanax) of the carrot family used to treat various ailments.

Part 1 Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss Summary"Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" by Lynne Truss is a witty and engaging exploration of the importance of punctuation in writing. The book emphasizes how proper punctuation can change the meaning of sentences and affect the clarity of communication.Truss uses the amusing title, derived from a joke about a panda that eats bamboo, shoots (the bamboo), and leaves, to illustrate how punctuation marks can drastically alter interpretations. The book is structured into various chapters that focus on different punctuation marks, including periods, commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, and more, providing historical context, grammatical rules, and humorous anecdotes to highlight common mistakes and misuses.Throughout the text, Truss adopts a light-hearted yet serious tone regarding the decline of punctuation standards in contemporary writing, largely due to the rise of digital communication and informal writing styles. She argues for a return to precision and traditional grammar, emphasizing that punctuation is not just a set of arbitrary symbols but a crucial tool for conveying meaning accurately."Eats, Shoots & Leaves" serves as both a guide and a manifesto for punctuation enthusiasts and those who may be less familiar with grammatical rules. Truss's passion for punctuation shines through, making the subject entertaining and accessible to a wide audience, ultimately advocating for careful and thoughtful writing.Part 2 Eats, Shoots & Leaves AuthorLynne Truss is a British author, journalist, and broadcaster best known for her humorous writing on the subject of grammar and punctuation. Best EditionsEats, Shoots & Leaves has seen several editions, including paperback, hardcover, and special illustrated versions. The 10th Anniversary Edition released in 2013 often receives highlights for its updates and reflections on the decade since the original publication. It typically contains additional commentary and reflections on how language use and punctuation have evolved over the years, making it particularly valuable for readers interested in both the humorous aspects and linguistic education.Overall, Truss's combination of humor and insightful commentary on language has solidified her place in contemporary literature, and Eats, Shoots & Leaves remains her most significant contribution to literature.Part 3 Eats, Shoots & Leaves Chapters"Eats, Shoots & Leaves" by Lynne Truss primarily focuses on the importance of punctuation in written language. Today I'm thrilled to launch a brand new series for the Princeton UP Ideas Podcast. 20 years ago, Princeton University Press published a short volume with an excellent title: On Bullshit (Princeton UP, 2025). Written by philosopher Harry Frankfurt, On Bullshit was adapted from an essay that explored the meaning, uses, and consequences of bullshit. At just 80 pages, On Bullshit became a favorite of readers, selling over 1 million copies and spending 27 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. It's not often that a work of philosophy breaks through to the mainstream, but readers of On Bullshit quickly discover why. Harry's meditation on the meaning of bullshit can be read in one sitting, but the ideas have staying power. After you read Harry's book, you start to see bullshit everywhere and recognize it's uniquely pernicious effects on whatever's left of the public square. Harry wrote his book long before modern social media and AI-generated slop. He was unbelievably prescient, making On Bullshit required reading for today. Harry sadly passed in 2023 at 94 years old, but his ideas live on. In this series, we'll speak with scholars whose lives and work have been influenced by Harry and his seminal book. To kick things off, I'll be speaking with Pamela Hieronymi, one of Harry's former students. Pamela is Professor of Philosophy at UCLA and a leading scholar in the field of moral philosophy. Like Harry, her work has resonated outside the academy. She served as an advisor on the sitcom, The Good Place, which brought philosophical concepts like the trolley problem to a mainstream audience. For the first episode in the series, Pamela will introduce readers to both the book and the man who wrote it. In subsequent episodes, I'll speak with other scholars who explore Harry's notion of bullshit in politics, science, and more. If you haven't read On Bullshit, you should preorder the anniversary edition, which is set to release on August 5th. Now, let's have ourselves a bull session.
