Rockshow Episode 217 Van MorrisonThis week on The Rockshow, we dive deep into the life and music of the legendary Van Morrison. From his early days with Them, belting out garage rock staples like “Gloria”, to his solo masterpieces such as “Astral Weeks”, “Moondance”, and “Into the Mystic”, Morrison has created some of the most soulful and poetic music in rock history. Known as the Belfast Cowboy, Van has always followed his own path—blending blues, jazz, folk, Celtic, and rock into something uniquely his own.Join us as we celebrate his legacy, explore his influence, and revisit the songs that continue to move hearts and inspire musicians across generations.

Rockshow 216 6 live albums you need to hear Special Guest Madeline BocaroWelcome to The RockShow, where we crank the amps and celebrate raw, unfiltered rock ‘n' roll! On Episode 216, we're diving into six live albums that capture the chaos, magic, and sheer electricity of rock at its most untamed. From the nihilistic energy of The Stooges' “Metallic KO”, to David Bowie's theatrical farewell as Ziggy Stardust, to Lou Reed's glam-soaked reinvention on “Rock ‘n' Roll Animal”, these performances are more than just concerts — they're moments in music history. We're also heading to the pit with the Ramones' breakneck “It's Alive”, riding the Irish storm with Rory Gallagher's blazing “Irish Tour '74”, and sweating it out with the high-octane boogie of J. Geils Band's “Live Full House”.These aren't just live albums — they're essential listens that show how rock was meant to be heard: loud, loose, and alive. Let's plug in and turn it up — this is The RockShow! The Stooges: Metallic KODavid Bowie: Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars live at Hammersmith OdeonLou Reed: Rock n Roll AnimalRamones It's AliveRory Gallagher: Irish Tour 74J Geils Band: Live Full House#TheStooges #MetallicKO #IggyPop #ProtoPunk #LivePunk #RawPowerLive#DavidBowie #ZiggyStardustLive #SpidersFromMars #BowieLive #GlamRock #HammersmithOdeon#LouReed #RockNRollAnimal #LiveGlamRock #VelvetUndergroundVibes #GuitarGods#Ramones #ItsAlive #PunkLegends #LivePunk #HeyHoLetsGo #CBGBSpirit#RoryGallagher #IrishTour74 #BluesRockLive #GuitarVirtuoso #CorkCityHall#JGeilsBand #LiveFullHouse #BoogieRock #LiveRockAndRoll #HousePartyLive #LiveAlbums #EssentialLiveRecords #RockShow216 #ClassicRockLive

This month romance author Katta Kis joined me to chat about the controversial classic, The Satanic Witch, originally published as The Compleat Witch or What to do When Virtue Fails. I'm not sure what either of us really expected but I think we both left feeling like we'd learned more about Anton LaVey's personal peccadilloes that we did about Satanism. Katta and I discuss the sexism, context, and LaVey's general obsession with what now seems like very traditional ideas of what it means to be a woman. You can pick up a copy of Katta's latest book Love at the Rock Show wherever you buy books and find links to social media, events, etc on her website.Next month, Cassandra Snow will be joining me to discuss Rachel Pollack's Seventy-eight Degrees of Wisdom. The book has been in print since it was first released in two parts in 1980, so there are second hand copies galore as well as a newish release from Weiser with a new preface by Pollack. Rockshow episode special tribute show:Brian WilsonBrian Wilson, born June 20, 1942, in Hawthorne, California, is a legendary American musician, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as the creative force behind The Beach Boys. A musical genius with a gift for harmony and innovation, Wilson helped define the sound of 1960s surf rock before evolving into one of pop music's most groundbreaking artists.Wilson co-founded The Beach Boys with his brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. As the band's chief songwriter and producer, he crafted hits like “Surfin' U.S.A.,” “California Girls,” and “Wouldn't It Be Nice.” His masterpiece Pet Sounds (1966) broke new ground with its emotional depth, orchestral arrangements, and studio experimentation—earning critical acclaim and influencing artists like The Beatles.Wilson's career was marked by personal struggles, including battles with mental illness and substance abuse, which sidelined him during key years of the band's success. The abandoned Smile project became legendary among fans for its ambition and mystery, though Wilson eventually completed and released it as a solo album in 2004.Despite hardships, Wilson staged a powerful comeback, releasing solo work and touring extensively. He's been honored with Grammy Awards, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1988), and the Kennedy Center Honors (2007). His story of brilliance, resilience, and redemption has inspired generations.Brian Wilson remains one of the most revered figures in popular music history, known for his emotional vulnerability, innovative soundscapes, and timeless melodies.https://www.instagram.com/brianwilsonlive?igsh=Y3JpaDE3eWQ5c250https://t.co/ax0hKlf5xPBrian Wilson (@BrianWilsonLive)https://www.brianwilson.com/#BrianWilson #TheBeachBoys#PetSounds #SmileSessions#GoodVibrations #MusicLegend#60sRock #SurfRock#RockAndRollHallOfFame#ClassicRock #MusicalGenius#CaliforniaSound #SongwritingLegend#BrianWilsonLive #BeachBoysForever #InnovatorOfSound #PopMusicIcon#WilsonBrother #StudioWizard#GodOnlyKnows

On today's all new episode of the cast, we take a look at the songs that dominated on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart during the summer of '01, and talk about how these songs captured the essence of the idyllic, carefree world we lived in at that time when we had more freedom, more independence, and were beginning to get the first taste of adulthood with getting  your first learners permit, and how it captured the beautiful world we lived in before 9/11. We talk about the various songs that were omnipresent over the airwaves including Blink 182's "The Rock Show", Sum 41's "Fat Lip", Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal", Cake's "Short Skirt/Long Jacket", Incubus "Drive",  and so many others that gained a prominent place on our mix CD's way back in the day. We also take a gander at the debuts of some prominent bands that would dominate throughout the 00's including the debut of Jimmy Eat World with "Bleed American", and I also play a song that best encapsulates the serene and beautiful soundscape that existed at the time from The Calling with their eventual big hit "Wherever You Will Go".

Five powerhouse bands. One stage. Over 65,000 screaming fans. “It was the best show I ever played,” Travers told Rick Beato. “It started at 11 in the morning and didn't let up. Just hit after hit, band after band.” Van Halen. AC/DC. Nobody remembers who went on first—and it didn't matter. What mattered was the energy, the music, and the wild backstage scene, where legends mingled like it was just another day in the park.

We had a great time talking about his book- "MTV Famous" which can be found on Amazon.com.In 1982, MTV changed the way a generation of teenage boys and girls defined the word “hero.” Pete Evick was one of those kids. Now, his heroes shredded through songs like “Cum on Feel the Noise” and “Panama.” Pete donned a guitar and vowed to someday climb the ladder—to play alongside the inductees to his personal Pantheon. His journey was winding and sometimes reckless, but he eventually played before packed houses around the world, sharing the bill with all the bands he used to watch on MTV. Thanks to his hard work and dedication—not to mention, his support for (and friendship with) one of his heroes, Bret Michaels—Pete Evick lifted himself from the wrong side of the tracks in Manassas, Virginia, to achieve his dreams.https://www.amazon.com/MTV-Famous-Pete-Evick/dp/1956577076/ref=sr_1_2?crid=371BTIWZTH32F&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.qbyQhA3RFygpudSvWcTHHtxdh2fAirAN8wN9bOfI_yiZprRr_JnRm6nqLk7MZPciwxsC2l0DBZVwJV2KYMzPi0N3pJeWBLGHDjeiCy1Wow4.4mzwWMIXoVEwVirru4TUU3Cp7eTW_o_z21sLwTjCcsE&dib_tag=se&keywords=pete+evick&qid=1747097500&sprefix=pete+evick%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-2www.evick.comFowl Players Radio can be found at www.fowlplayersradio.com and on YouTube.com/@fowlplayersradioCome see The Fowl Players Of Perryville- The East Coast's Premiere Murder Mystery Company- www.fowlplayersofperryville.com#peteevick #mtvfamous #evick #bretmichaels #fowlplayersradio #michaelspedden #thefowlplayersofperryville www.fowlplayersradio.comwww.thefowlplayersofperryville.com#michaelspedden#fowlplayersradio#fowlplayersofperryville@fowl_radio@SpeddenMichaelwww.youtube.com/@fowlplayersradiowww.patreon.com/fowlplayersradiobuymeacoffee.com/fowlplayerw
