SUMMARY: In this sermon, we explored Ephesians 4:12-16 and the central theme of maturity within the church. We began by asking why unity, diversity, and theology matter, and discovered that the answer is maturity—growing up together as the body of Christ. Maturity is not just about personal growth but about being equipped, building up others, and engaging in the real “game” of faith outside the church walls. We discussed the importance of being knowledgeable about Jesus, developing stability in our faith, and ensuring that every member is both connected and contributing. The ultimate goal is a church where each person finds their place, serves with purpose, and grows together into the fullness of Christ.

What do a barracks for British troops in the Falklands War, a floating jail off the Bronx, and temporary housing for VW factory workers in Germany have in common? The Balder Scapa: a single barge that served all three roles. Though the name would eventually change to Finnboda 12. And then to Safe Esperia. And later on, to the Bibby Resolution. And after that . . . in short, a vessel with so many names, and so many fates, that to keep it in our sights—as the protagonist of this fascinating economic parable—Ian Kumekawa has no choice but to call it, simply, the Vessel.Despite its sturdy steel structure, weighing 9,500 deadweight tons, the Vessel is a figure as elusive and abstract as the offshore market it comes to embody: a world of island tax havens, exploited labor forces, free banking zones, Thatcherism, Reaganomics, and mass incarceration, where even the prisoners are held offshore. Fitted with modular shipping containers, themselves the product of standardized global trade, the ship could become whatever the market demanded. Whether caught in an international dispute involving Hong Kong, Nigeria, Indonesia, and the Virgin Islands—to be settled in an English court of law—or flying yet another foreign “flag of convenience” to mask its ownership—the barge is ever a container for forces much larger than even its hulking self.Empty Vessel: The Story of the Global Economy in One Barge is a jaw-dropping microhistory that speaks volumes about the global economy as a whole. In following the Vessel—and its Sister Vessel, built alongside it in Stockholm—from one thankless task to the next, Kumekawa connects the dots of a neoliberal world order in the making, where regulation is for suckers and “Made in USA” feels almost quaint. Are you spiritually dressed for the fight? This week's message, "Fitted for the Fight," breaks down how believers can walk into every day ready for whatever life throws their way. We talk through the Armor of God in a way that's clear and practical so we can be clothed in the full armor of God as a daily defense. From the Belt of Truth to the Sword of the Spirit, you'll hear how each piece of the armor helps you stand strong, speak boldly, and move in confidence. Plus, we take a look at David and Goliath to show how spiritual warfare works on both offense and defense. If you've ever felt caught off guard, this episode is your reminder that you've already been equipped. You just have to wear it.

Featured on: Popular Science, How Stuff WorksEnertia® Homes use an ingenious design, and the science of materials, to heat and cool buildings without fuel or electricity. Fitted with Photovoltaic panels, and a metal seamed roof, homes can be self-reliant for heating, cooling, electricity, water and food. This is a modern Building System, an integrated group of innovations and a construction technique so basic, yet amazing and effective, it has been called a Modern Marvel- A Time Magazine Invention of the Year & 2011 Zayed Future Energy Prize, "Innovative Structure of the Century Award", AWPI Century's Best Award. These are not conventional “stick-frame” single-generation houses. The walls are solid wood, and the design life is hundreds of years. Comfort is by design and from a unique structural material, not from a mechanical/ electric compressor or furnace. The roof can generate electricity and capture water. The sunspace harvests energy, and in it you can harvest food. Most have a built-in "biosphere," modeled after planet Earths' that draws energy from the sun, and geothermal stability from the ground, creating a temperate climate that buffers the primary living space. Your personal Greenhouse Effect warms your house in winter. Naturally-induced air currents cool it in summer. "When we started over 35 years ago the terms Bio-mimicry, Green Building, Carbon Sequestration, and Life-Cycle Analysis did not exist. O Lord, clothe me not first for battle— but for covenant. Let me put on the garment You measured for me before You taught my hands to war. Before a sword, You wove a robe. This linen— this מד (Armor) stitched with mercy and truth— fits my frame not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit's hand. It is my wedding garment, woven from waters of Word, threaded through with faith, fastened with love, fringed with fire. I lift it now— not as heavy armor weighed by fear, but as a mantle of belonging. I take it up— not to earn my place, but to remember my name. Before the stones fly, before the giants fall, before the trumpet sounds— I stand clothed. I stand loved. I stand ready. The fiercest battle I fight today is not to slay an enemy— but to remain clothed in the beauty You gave me when You called me Yours. I am dressed. I am guarded. I am Yours.

Uber updated their list of the weirdest things that have been left behind by passengers, and seafood towers might get replaced by the more affordable "Hot Dog Tower" this summer…and I'm here for it. The Kentucky Derby is a couple of weeks away, and a Wisconsin company has made the "Fromaginator" hat to commemorate the event. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", a man in Kentucky is under arrest for running around naked on the highway, an Easter bunny at a mall got assaulted by some teenagers, a #FloridaMan got busted for being drunk & disorderly at an Applebee's, and a NJ woman who tried to pay a Tinder date to kill her ex-boyfriend AND his daughter! The English noun gospel comes from the Anglo-Saxon term godspell, meaning "glad tidings." It is translated from the Greek evangelion, which means "good message." Originally, the word was related to news of military triumph. –https://www.gotquestions.org/gospel-good-news.htmlWhile mainstream Christianity has a relatively narrow definition or view of the Good News, e.g., limited to the New Testament and only relating to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a broader, more scriptural perspective exists that is less taught, if taught at all.Didn't the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and others preach good news? What was their good news about? If the Good News is only about the death, burial, and resurrection of Messiah Yeshua, why did He teach and preach about it? What did He say is the Good News?Is the Good News about the Messiah, or is it of the Messiah? As is his usual practice, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings a more profound understanding to this topic by allowing scripture to define itself just as he has done in his other teachings.• Opener• Review• Ephesians 6:1-9 – How do we respond to authority?• We operate both with authority and under authority• Ephesians 6:10 – Be strong in the Master's strength • Ephesians 6:11 – Put on the complete armor of Elohim• He's the cheerleader?• Ephesians 6:12-13 – Power to withstand and stand• Ephesians 6:14 – Gird your waist with truth?• The breastplate of righteousness• Ephesians 6:15 – Your feet = your walk• Ephesians 6:16 – The shield of faith• Ephesians 6:17 – The helmet and sword • Ephesians 6:18 – Inline with the nature of Elohim• Ephesians 6:19-20 – Boldly proclaiming the Good News• He's got positions to fill• Do you leave out pieces of your armor?• The importance of understanding the armor• Rabbi Berkson talks about searching for teachers• Fitted for the Good News• Somebody did it all for you?• Romans 2:5-9 – You will reap what you sow• The battle is inside of youListen to the Afterburn tomorrowTo learn more about MTOI, visit our website, https://mtoi.org.https://www.facebook.com/mtoiworldwide https://www.instagram.com/mtoi_worldwidehttps://www.tiktok.com/@mtoi_worldwide You can contact MTOI by emailing us at admin@mtoi.org or calling 423-250-3020. Join us for Shabbat Services and Torah Study LIVE, streamed on our website, mtoi.org, YouTube, and Rumble every Saturday at 1:15 p.m. and every Friday for Torah Study Live Stream at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Cancer doesn't take a break at Christmas time.  Christmas fell on a Thursday in 2008, and Hannah needed platelet infusions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Children's was closed on Wednesday for Christmas Eve, so she actually had to be admitted to the general part of the hospital for a few hours to get her platelets.  It took longer than usual to get her platelets since we had to go through the whole admissions process, and we were grateful to be heading home late that afternoon and looking forward to a quiet Christmas Day at home.  We found ourselves very thankful for God's grace at this point in our journey.  Thank you for joining me for another bonus episode of the While We're Waiting podcast in this year-long series in which I share our family's experiences as our teenage daughter Hannah battled glioblastoma brain cancer from February 2008 through February 2009.  My desire is to process through the events of those twelve months with the perspective that 16 years has brought … and point listeners to hope in Jesus along the way.I would love to hear your thoughts on the show.
