The battle reaches a conclusion.
Paul said in Romans chapter 7, "Wretched man that I am, who will set me free from this body of death? I myself in my mind am serving the law of God, but with my flesh the law of sin." The mind is critical. Romans chapter 8 says, "But the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace." Segment 1: • Debate in Texas and Oklahoma over posting the Ten Commandments in schools. • Glenn Beck supports it—but reframes them in a way that misses their true biblical intent. • The Ten Commandments point to the one true God, not just generic morality. Segment 2: • Glenn Beck's defense of the Ten Commandments feels shallow and unclear. • His reasoning veers off into emotional and cultural appeals, not theological accuracy. • Todd challenges: What's the point if the Gospel isn't connected to the Law? Segment 3: • Posting the Law without the Gospel misses its purpose—law convicts, Gospel saves. • Global updates: Divorce gift registries, marijuana health risks, etiquette coaches for Gen Z. • Which states best (and worst) protect religious liberty? Segment 4: • Children's National Hospital halts puberty blockers for minors. • UK: Bereavement pay for miscarriage and abortion legalized up to birth. • Uber launches female-only pickup feature; Wretched store sale announced. ___ Thanks for listening! "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us--that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1 Those whom Jesus loves, being chosen of God to holiness here on earth, and happiness in eternity--are predestined to the adoption of His children--to the praise of the glory of His grace. They are predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son--they are to . . . partake of His nature, receive of His spirit, wear His image, and be associated with Him in honor and glory forever! Jesus calls them: His brethren, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Himself! Being His redeemed children, they . . . have a saving interest in Him, are eternally loved by Him, are in eternal union with Him, and shall never be separated from Him! O wondrous mercy! That God should condescend to make up a family of such vile, polluted, and wretched beings as we are! O wondrous mercy! That He should write our names in His book of life, give us the gift of the Holy Spirit, privilege us as His children at His throne, and associate us with Jesus as fellow-heirs. O wondrous mercy! That all this should have been fixed upon and settled--before the beginning of time, and all for the praise of His glorious grace!
We're incredibly honoured to be joined by Ray Brassier, a hugely formative thinker for both of us and one of the most important philosophers of the past 20 years. We talk about his upcoming book Fatelessness: Freedom and Fatality After Marx and, the contemporary condition of The Wretched of the Earth. Ray also gives an absolutely brilliant takedown of Nick Land and the speculative inhuman. Hope you enjoy it.

God's law is good, but the result of being under the law is not good for all who do not keep the law, and none of us can keep it. Thankfully, as Paul declared in Romans 6:14, sin will have no dominion over the Christian because the Christian is not under law but under grace. In this second sermon on Romans 7:13-25, we will look at Paul's argument in light of Romans 6 and 8, consider the objections that Paul addresses, and how those who are under grace can apply this passage.
Para apreciar la gloria de Cristo Jesús en el Evangelio, tenemos que apreciar primero la condición del hombre después de la caída de Adán y Eva.

What does it mean that no one seeks after God? Do we search for answers? Is that seeking God? What is a 'work' and do we 'work' for salvation? How do you receive a gift? Calvinism? Wretched man, chief of sinners, loved by God. All this and more on this week's episode. Enjoy!

“When an official came to see him, Epictetus, after making some special enquiries about other matters, asked him if he had children and a wife, and when the other replied that he had, Epictetus asked the further question, What, then, is your experience with marriage? — Wretched, he said. — To which Epictetus, How so? For men do not marry and beget children just for this surely, to be wretched, but rather to be happy. — And yet, as for me, the other replied, I feel so wretched about the little children, that recently when my little daughter was sick and was thought to be in danger, I could not bear even to stay by her sick bed, but I up and ran away, until someone brought me word that she was well again. — What then, do you feel that you were acting right in doing this? — I was acting naturally, he said. …This is the way, said the man, all, or at least most, of us fathers feel. — And I do not contradict you either, answered Epictetus, and say that it is not done, but the point at issue between us is the other, whether it is rightly done.”(Discourses, 1.11)The Philosophy Garden: Stoicism and Beyond is a reader-supported publication. Of all the sins common to our fallen nature, God has the most signally stressed that sin of idolatry, or false worship.Man is by nature an idolater. His sinful mind, being alienated from God, seeks some object of worship other than the true and living God. The 'believer is not entirely exempt from this sin. Hence we have these exhortations of the Apostles addressed to the early Christians, and in these last days addressed to us: "Little children, keep yourselves from idols." 1 John 5:21"My dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." 1 Corinthians 10:14Surely, it was not the gross and senseless idolatry of the heathens, to which the Apostles thus refer--but to other idols and other worship, less palpable and degrading, but not less superstitious or offensive to God. The worship of SELF is a natural and fearful form of idolatry. It is an innate and never entirely eradicated principle of our nature, but clings to us to the very last of life. Alas! the holiest and the best of us want to be something, and to do something--when in reality we are nothing, and can do nothing. For the most part, we walk in our religious life upon stilts--always appearing in the eyes of others taller than we really are! But real greatness and true humility, have ever been in alliance with abnegation of SELF. The holiest saints have always walked the lowest paths, for they saw the most of God's majesty and the least of their own worth. The nearer a man draws to God--the more he loathes the vanity of self, and clings to the sufficiency of grace.Who can stand before the cross and gaze upon the Creator of all worlds impaled between two criminals, Himself dying as the chief, and not shrink into

Welcome to Episode 81! This episode is all about competitive tournament etiquette, with a specific focus on how to handle what might be termed a little-too-opportunistic-play on the part of your opponent (specifically, opponents changing dice, mis-measuring, slow-playing, or otherwise riding that gray line of what is acceptable). It's a great episode in time for Adepticon, and we wish all of the success in the world to those attending Worlds.Join the Slack!
God truly wants to deliver us from sin, but He will often patiently use our struggles and weakness to bring us to the end of ourselves, where we finally say from the heart, “Lord, I can't do this! Please save me!”
Bong Joon-Ho's madcap, sci-fi satire turns the notion of resurrection on its head, depicting it as something of a curse. The movie, starring Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” on an interplanetary mission, also explores ideas related to the imago dei and Ash Wednesday. Sarah 13, JR. 15, and Josh 24 discuss. The Lizzie Halliday HorrorsAd-Free Safe House EditionEpisode 305 kicks off Lady Serial Killers Month with the strange story of Lizzie Halliday, the perpetrator of at least five, maybe six murders, and once you hear about those, you'll wonder if maybe there weren't a few more than that. In addition to six murders, the spice in this tale includes a near-lynching and the lunatic antics of the prisoner, the first American woman to receive a death sentence in the electric chair.More Serial KillersBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/true-crime-historian--2909311/support.
Are you prepared for your journey of discovery? Learnings must include debating parlor admission, playing a lute like a weird asshole, conceiving destiny music, dreaming the same dream every day, going through the change of life, suffering provincialism, smelling of sea salt and dragon dung, freaking out the corrections officers, literally pulling the strings, sleeping past magic school, inviting a depressed girl on a dragon quest, and violating the sanctity of a bed chamber. Mmmm, it's, no bother. 00:00:00 Intro00:03:04 Vane Magic Guild 00:05:50 Parlor Tricks 00:19:56 Magic Guild NPCs 00:39:52 Mia 00:55:25 Real Net 01:01:10 Outro Patreon: patreon.com/retroam Bluesky: @retrogradeamnesia.bsky.social YouTube: www.youtube.com/@RetrogradeAmnesia E-Mail: podcast@retrogradeamnesia.com Website: www.retrogradeamnesia.com
The Politics of the Wretched: Race, Reason, and Ressentiment (Bloomsbury 2024) argues for ressentiment's generative negativity, prompting a shift from ressentiment as a personal expression of frustration to ressentiment as a collective “No”. Inspired by Kant and Nietzsche's philosophy, Zalloua identifies two modes of deploying ressentiment – private and public use – by substituting ressentiment for reason. This reinterpretation argues for a public use of ressentiment, for the wretched to universalize their grievances, to see their antagonism as cutting across societies, and to turn personal trauma into a common cause. A public use of ressentiment rails against the ideology of identity and victimhood and insists on ressentiment's generative negativity, its own rationality, prompting a shift from ressentiment as a personal expression of frustration to ressentiment as a collective “No”. Reframing ressentiment as a tool to oppose the evils of capitalism, anti-Blackness, and neocolonialism, it both alarms the liberal gatekeepers of the status quo and promises to energize the anti-racist Left in its ongoing struggles for universal justice and emancipation. Zahi Zalloua is Cushing Eells Professor of Philosophy and Literature and a Professor of Indigeneity, Race, and Ethnicity Studies at Whitman College and Editor of The Comparatist. His most recent work includes Solidarity and the Palestinian Cause: Indigeneity, Blackness, and the Promise of Universality (2023), Being Posthuman: Ontologies of the Future (2021), Žižek on Race: Toward an Anti- Racist Future (2020), Theory's Autoimmunity: Skepticism, Literature, and Philosophy (2018), and Continental Philosophy and the Palestinian Question: Beyond the Jew and the Greek (2017). In this special episode we cover the last two days of the Peasants Revolt of June 1381- the destruction and carnage of the previous few days is dwarfed by the mayhem that is to follow; the Archbishop of Canterbury is hacked apart before a baying crown; scores of foreigners are massacred in the streets and the young king forced to hide out in a house in Blackfriars, as the city descends into utter chaos. But quietly, and behind the scenes, the Aldermen of London began flexing their muscles. From saving large numbers of Germans, to orchestrating the plan to kill the rebel leader, this is a story of how the Mayor and his allies were to emerge triumphant in the face of absolute horror.

Segment 1: • Catholic vs. Protestant Views: Michael Knowles and Charlie Kirk discuss "spreading the love of the Eucharist," but Protestants reject its validity. • The Real Issue: The Pope isn't just a political problem—his entire role is a theological hoax (John MacArthur). • Kirk's Missed Opportunity: He critiques the Pope's Marxism but avoids addressing deeper theological divides. Segment 2: • A Soft Approach: Kirk, usually outspoken, handles Catholicism gently—avoiding doctrinal confrontation. • 500 Years of Division: Protestants and Catholics share some moral values but fundamentally differ on salvation, Mary, and authority. • Historical Perspective: Looking into how Reformers saw the Pope and Catholic teachings provides necessary clarity. Segment 3: • Catholic Claims Under Fire: The idea that Peter was the first Pope doesn't hold up biblically. • Seeking Clarity Over Unity: Doctrinal precision should take precedence over a surface-level agreement. • Wretched's Breakdown: 25 reasons why Peter was never the Pope highlight how the Catholic system isn't what it claims to be. Segment 4: • Who Led the Early Church? Scripture shows James, not Peter, was the head of the Jerusalem church. • Canon Controversy: The Catholic Church codified additional books in response to the Reformers, but Jews never recognized them. • Peter's Own Words: He taught on the priesthood of all believers, which contradicts the idea of a papal hierarchy. ___ Thanks for listening!
