John 8:51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death." This is the 5th reference in John 7-8 to "my word". What word did Jesus speak that if one keeps it, they won't see death? I think it is both of these. John 7:37-38. Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" AND John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." If you never want to die? Hold fast to both words. Believe in Him for living water and follow Him as the Light of the world. These verses in Hebrews came to mind as I thought about never dying. Hebrews 2:14-15. “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.” Those who believe and trust in Jesus do not need to be afraid of death. It's not happening to them. Death is separation from God, and Jesus said He is the life. Yes, our bodies (our temporary tents) wear out and can be destroyed because of sin, but we transition into a permanent new body with Jesus. Those who fear death can be enslaved by Satan and evil people who use that fear to control them for personal gain. We are watching it happen on a global scale. Perfect love casts out this fear and sets us free to live and love with Jesus! Hallelujah!! I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of "giving it forward," so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. When we truly know God — the source of all love — fear loses its grip on our hearts. God's love secures us, assures us, and calls us to extend that same love to others. We are no longer bound by fear of judgment or failure, because His love has been made complete in us through Christ. Join Pr. Matt Ritchey for this week's sermon from 1st John 4.

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Send us a textFear can creep in when our circumstances shake us, but what if God offers us something better? This week's song, “No Fear” by Jon Reddick, leads us to explore the very first mention of fear in Scripture and how God's perfect love casts it out. Joshua 2:9-11 No Fear Of God In The Last Days Intro: Rahab the Harlot lived in Jericho. God's people were getting ready to conquer Jericho and move on into the promised land. Rahab had heard of God's people and their power. She was trying to help the two spies sent by Joshua to spy out the land. She was terrified of God's people. Which means she was also terrified of their God. Do we fear God in these last days? Do we respect His people both Jews and Christians? The answer to both is a resounding NO!
What are you afraid of? We all know how fear can hold us back from living the kind of life we want. The writer of Hebrews takes it even deeper than that, and makes an astonishing claim: our underlying fear—the heart of the human condition—is slavery to the fear of death. How does that fear play out in our lives? And how does Jesus free us from it? Site Pastor Richard Glover takes a look at Hebrews chapter 2. Bible Readings: Psalm 90:1–12 | Hebrews 2:10–15

Many communities have the minhag to blow the shofar every day in Elul. The purpose is to awaken us, to instill fear and trembling as the awesome day of Rosh HaShanah approaches. There is also the minhag to read the mizmor L'David Hashem Ori v'yishi . And in that mizmor, David HaMelech says: " מִמִּי אִירָא… אִם־תַּחֲנֶה עָלַי מַחֲנֶה לֹא־יִירָא לִבִּי ". "Whom shall I fear? … Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear" (Tehillim 27:1–3). At first glance, this seems like a contradiction. On one hand, we sound the shofar to create fear. On the other hand, we recite words of Tehillim telling us there is nothing to fear. Rabbi Menashe Reizman pointed out another similar contradiction. In Parashat Shoftim, the Torah commands: " כִּי־תֵצֵא לַמִּלְחָמָה עַל־אֹיְבֶיךָ… לֹא תִירָא מֵהֶם כִּי ה׳ אֱלֹקיךָ עִמָּךְ " "When you go out to war against your enemy… you shall not fear them, for HaShem your G-d is with you" (Devarim 20:1). Even if they appear greater and stronger, we are told not to be afraid, because we have HaShem on our side and no one else has power. Yet immediately afterwards, the shoterim announce exemptions from battle: " מִי־הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־בָּנָה בַיִת־חָדָשׁ וְלֹא חֲנָכוֹ… מִי־הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־אֵרַשׂ אִשָּׁה וְלֹא לְקָחָהּ… פֶּן־יָמוּת בַּמִּלְחָמָה וְאִישׁ אַחֵר יַחְנְכֶנּוּ " "Who is the man who has built a new house and not inaugurated it… who is the man who has betrothed a woman and not taken her… lest he die in battle and another man take her" (Devarim 20:5–7). Again, it seems inconsistent. First we are told there is nothing to fear, and then the Torah acknowledges the possibility of death in battle. Rabbi Reizman brought the Chovot HaLevavot (Sha'ar HaBitachon, fourth condition), who explains that true bitachon requires a person to be fulfilling the responsibilities HaShem has placed upon him. We often ask HaShem to grant our requests, but at the same time, He too has requests from us — that we live according to the Torah and mitzvot. When we strive to do His will, then we can confidently place our trust in Him to help with our needs. If someone ignores HaShem's will completely, it shows he doesn't truly know who HaShem is — and without that recognition, he cannot have genuine bitachon . Rabbeinu Yonah does write that even a rasha who trusts in HaShem will be surrounded with chesed. But that refers to a sinner who now wants to improve, who expresses a desire to return. Even that thought of change allows him to rely on HaShem's kindness. But someone who has no care for HaShem's will cannot say he trusts Him, because he doesn't truly know Him. Sometimes, HaShem must make life uncomfortable to wake a person up, to bring him to fulfill the mission for which he was created. Now we can resolve the contradictions. It is true that one who goes to battle with full awareness of ein od milvado will not be harmed. But to reach that state of bitachon , he must first experience the right kind of fear — the fear that motivates him to return to HaShem and strengthen his connection. That is why the shoterim warned the soldiers: war is dangerous, people may die. These words were meant to shake them into teshuvah, to awaken them to HaShem. Once that awakening leads to closeness and true trust, then indeed there is nothing to fear. So too in Elul. First we blow the shofar — to arouse fear and awareness that Rosh HaShanah is coming. Then, after we are inspired to draw near to HaShem and commit to doing His will, we can place genuine bitachon in Him. At that stage, there is truly nothing to fear, for HaShem Himself is our salvation.

Pastor Christy Cass As we close the Made to Garden series, this message reminds us that fear doesn't have to drive us into hiding. From Genesis 3, we see the first humans cover themselves with fig leaves and hide when shame and fear entered the story. Yet God's response wasn't condemnation—it was an invitation: “Where are you?” Supporting Scriptures: Genesis 3:1–10, Proverbs 8:13, 2 Timothy 1:7, John 3:20, 1 Corinthians 10:13 Big Idea: God doesn't yell from the fence line—He walks into the garden. He comes close. The invitation is to step out of hiding, trade fear for trust, and walk with Him in the open. Key Themes & Takeaways: There are two fears in the garden: Fear that hides from God (shame, paralysis, people-pleasing). Fear of the Lord (holy awe that leads to trust and obedience). Alignment with God happens in head (truth), heart (desires), and hands (obedience). Obedience is our “yes.” Outcomes are His responsibility. Practical Steps to Live Fearless: Generosity & Hospitality → move from closed hands to open tables. Courageous Witness → everyday invitations, bold in love. Peacemaking → have hard conversations with truth and grace. Creativity & Resilience → choose fresh hope over cynicism. Community & Correction → walk together, not in isolation. Work & Integrity → live honest and excellent before God and others. There should be no fear in telling people what's real to us!
Joe HIllA songwriter, itinerant laborer, and union organizer, Joe Hill became famous around the world after a Utah court convicted him of murder. Even before the international campaign to have his conviction reversed, however, Joe Hill was well known in hobo jungles, on picket lines and at workers' rallies as the author of popular labor songs and as an Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) agitator. Thanks in large part to his songs and to his stirring, well-publicized call to his fellow workers on the eve of his execution—"Don't waste time mourning, organize!"—Hill became, and he has remained, the best-known IWW martyr and labor folk hero.Born Joel Hägglund on Oct. 7, 1879, the future "troubadour of discontent" grew up the fourth of six surviving children in a devoutly religious Lutheran family in Gävle, Sweden, where his father, Olaf, worked as a railroad conductor. Both his parents enjoyed music and often led the family in song. As a young man, Hill composed songs about members of his family, attended concerts at the workers' association hall in Gävle and played piano in a local café.In 1887, Hill's father died from an occupational injury and the children were forced to quit school to support themselves. The 9-year-old Hill worked in a rope factory and later as a fireman on a steam-powered crane. Stricken with skin and joint tuberculosis in 1900, Hill moved to Stockholm in search of a cure and worked odd jobs while receiving radiation treatment and enduring a series of disfiguring operations on his face and neck. Two years later, Hill's mother, Margareta Katarina Hägglund, died after also undergoing a series of operations to cure a persistent back ailment. With her death, the six surviving Hägglund children sold the family home and ventured out on their own. Four of them settled elsewhere in Sweden, but the future Joe Hill and his younger brother, Paul, booked passage to the United States in 1902.Little is known of Hill's doings or whereabouts for the next 12 years. He reportedly worked at various odd jobs in New York before striking out for Chicago, where he worked in a machine shop, got fired and was blacklisted for trying to organize a union. The record finds him in Cleveland in 1905, in San Francisco during the April 1906 Great Earthquake and in San Pedro, Calif., in 1910. There he joined the IWW, served for several years as the secretary for the San Pedro local and wrote many of his most famous songs, including "The Preacher and the Slave" and "Casey Jones—A Union Scab." His songs, appearing in the IWW's "Little Red Song Book," addressed the experience of virtually every major IWW group, from immigrant factory workers to homeless migratory workers to railway shopcraft workers. In 1911, he was in Tijuana, Mexico, part of an army of several hundred wandering hoboes and radicals who sought to overthrow the Mexican dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz, seize Baja California, emancipate the working class and declare industrial freedom. (The invasion lasted six months before internal dissension and a large detachment of better-trained Mexican troops drove the last 100 rebels back across the border.) In 1912, Hill apparently was active in a "Free Speech" coalition of Wobblies, socialists, single taxers, suffragists and AFL members in San Diego that protested a police decision to close the downtown area to street meetings. He also put in an appearance at a railroad construction crew strike in British Columbia, writing several songs before returning to San Pedro, where he lent musical support to a strike of Italian dockworkers. The San Pedro dockworkers' strike led to Hill's first recorded encounter with the police, who arrested him in June 1913 and held him for 30 days on a charge of vagrancy because, he said later, he was "a little too active to suit the chief of the burg" during the strike.
“No regrets” is an American slogan along with “No Fear” and “Just Do It.” Yet more often than not we don't “just do it,” having no fear is psychopathic, and having no regrets means you have no sorrow for ever hurting anyone or making a mistake. Regret is simply recognizing sadness or disappointment about something we did we wish we hadn't, or we didn't do and wish we had, and Dan Pink's research showcases it's a massive power if we'll recognize it and learn from it. Not as he says, reject it or wallow in it. The following conversation was my second time having Dan on the show. Dan Pink is a multi-best selling author, and when I say best selling, I don't mean one day on an obscure Amazon book category like Amish Romance, but the actual New York Times bestseller list. You'll likely recognize his books such as A Whole New Mind, To Sell Is Human, and When. His books have sold millions of copies, have been translated into forty-two languages. He also has a TED talk titled “The Puzzle of Motivation” which has somewhere north of 30 million views. I recently saw him being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. Dan is an author like Brene' Brown who leads with research, and he's now turned his focus to regrets with his new book, The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. I asked him back on the show the moment I saw the book title and you're about to hear me dig in with him on how we can harness regret for our progress, not suffer or run from it. This morning, Pastor Grant (from Jacob's Porch at OSU) reflects on Jesus message to his disciples - "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." He relates one recent story from campus ministry which would have been a time to be afraid, but the spirit reminded him of these words and gave him courage to turn a scary situation into something positive for several people. In the same way, we can lean on these words of Jesus to help us through scary times.

In this powerful and emotional episode, entrepreneur and mother of eight, Holly Porter, shares the deeply transformative story of her near-death experience (NDE) during a severe battle with COVID-19 in 2021. Holly describes in vivid and spiritual detail what she encountered beyond the veil, including a life review, a stadium-like heavenly realm, an angelic choir (that she joined), and a message of unconditional love. One of the most moving parts of Holly's NDE was her life review, where only moments of kindness, service, and hugs were shown—expressions of love that mattered most. There was no judgment or guilt, only the clear message: “This is what mattered.” Yet, she also recalled a haunting feeling of having been kidnapped from that realm, a mystery later unraveled during a hypnosis session when she discovered an entity had attempted to steal her light, pulling her into an in-between space. Despite the interference, her experiences remained filled with divine clarity and healing. A central message she brought back was clear and transformative: “Love them where they're at.” These five words reshaped how Holly views relationships, judgment, and forgiveness—reminding us all to meet others with empathy and acceptance, exactly as they are. Her story doesn't stop with her NDE. Holly also dives into her spiritual transformation experience (STE) and multiple out-of-body experiences (OBEs) while hospitalized. She recounts how these experiences, along with a later hypnosis session, filled in the gaps of her journey and confirmed her divine purpose.Chapters:00:00 – Introduction & Holly's Crisis Moment01:40 – Meet Holly Porter04:00 – COVID, Collapse & Hospitalization06:15 – OBEs & Strange Bed Journeys09:30 – Entering the Near Death Experience12:15 – The Life Review & Divine Messages15:20 – The “Kidnapping” Feeling18:45 – The Hard Years Afterward21:00 – Hypnosis Reveals the Missing Piece24:45 – Spiritual Rescue & the Symbol of the Tree28:00 – The Core Message: “Love Them Where They're At”30:15 – More OBEs: The Parowan House33:50 – The Spiritually Transformative Experience (STE)37:20 – Heaven, No Fear, and What Matters Most40:10 – Final Thoughts & Contact Info_______________________Video version of this podcast: https://youtu.be/86cIgJbbnuwRoundTripDeath.comDonate to this podcast: https://www.roundtripdeath.com/support/Holly:holly@hollyporter.comhttps://hollyporterinternational.com/
