The Purpose of Salvation The Importance of Salvation Salvation is the singular most important gift God has given to man (Acts 4:12). It represents the forgiveness of our sins and the sins of the world. What Salvation Means 1.Transition from Eternal Death to Eternal Life: Salvation means we have transitioned from eternal death to eternal life (Ephesians 2:5, John 3:16). 2.Entering the Kingdom of God: Salvation means we have entered into the kingdom of God. 3.Freedom from Condemnation: Salvation means we are no longer under condemnation (John 3:17). 4.Escape from Hell: Salvation means we have escaped from hell. 5.New Birth: Salvation means we have been born again into the household of God. The State of the Falling Man 1.Dead in Trespasses and Sins: Without salvation, man is dead in trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1-3). 2.Cursed to Lust: Man is cursed to lust and controlled by demons and the devil. 3.Separated from God's Glory: Man is separated from the glory of God and condemned to damnation. 4.Without Identity: Man is without an identity and is an enemy of God. How to Attain Salvation 1. Salvation is a Gift: Salvation is a gift from God. 2. Faith in Jesus: Salvation is by faith in Jesus (Acts 4:12, John 14:6). 3. Calling on the Name of Jesus: Salvation is by calling on the name of Jesus (Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:13). What God Expects of Us Sharing the Gospel: God expects everyone who is saved to tell others about salvation (Matthew 28:19-20, John 4:29).

Ephesians One was a brilliant overview of God's plan, salvation and our eventual destiny with Jesus Christ. Chapter Two is a reminder of the miry clay we have all been rescued from. While dark, it is vital for the believer to never lose sight of our own desperate rescue or church becomes an exclusive club instead of a hospital to meet the Great Physician.

Jesus Christ was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification
As we contemplate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord during Holy Week, it is good that we focus for a time on WHY Jesus chose to die for us. He gave Himself totally on the Cross as a free gift, so that we might be reconciled to the Father. That necessarily entails the forgiveness of our sins.

Traditional Worship | Rev. Karen Tyler | Throughout Jesus' ministry, prayer was the foundation on which He built His relationship with God. Before every miracle — from giving sight to the blind to feeding of the multitude, from raising Lazarus from the dead to facing that darkest moment in Gethsemane — He always prayed. Prayer was essential for Jesus, and when He gave His Sermon on the Mount, considered to be the greatest of all His teachings, He instructed us on how to pray by giving us the model prayer that has stood the test of time. In this sermon series, we will examine the power and depth of what has come to be known as the Lord's Prayer. As modern-day disciples, we can learn so much from these timeless words. We are delighted you have joined us for our traditional worship, and we welcome you as we explore what it means when we ask, “Teach us to pray.”

Pastors Alec Seekins and David Stockton join special guest, Mark Buckley, founding pastor of Living Streams Church in a discussion about forgiveness, debts, and trespasses.
Jesus not only taught forgiveness but exemplified it, even on the cross, when He prayed for His persecutors' forgiveness (Luke 23:34). Through His sacrifice, He paid the full penalty for sin and opened the door to mercy, showing us that forgiveness isn't about feelings or excusing wrongs, but an act of obedience that leads to healing. As followers of Christ, we are called to forgive as He forgave us, empowering us to seek justice, not vengeance (Romans 12:19). Whether the wrongdoer is repentant or not, we are to extend forgiveness and reconciliation, showing compassion as Christ did. True forgiveness, fueled by the Spirit, frees us from bitterness and reflects God's love to the world.
Forgiving those who have hurt us is a challenging call. Fr. Mike explains what it means to "forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us." We learn that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing and that we can transform our hurt into intercession with God's grace. We ask the Lord to soften our hearts so that they may remain open to loving and forgiving others. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2838-2845. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/ciy Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
In this episode we discuss the Catechism's explanation of the the fifth petition of the Lord's Prayer "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." The catechism explains the importance of this petition and gives an explanation for each word in the petition.

”And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—“ Ephesians 2:1-5

“Forgive us our Debts” Matthew 6:9-15 October 6, 2024 Pastor Tony Felich Sermon Application [file] ----more---- Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. [10] Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread, [12] and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [14] For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, [15] but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. If we are Christians (those who have been forgiven because of Christ), we can and will forgive others. • What is meant by our debts? Trespasses? • Praying for Forgiveness. • Praying for a Forgiving Spirt.

Christ has forgiven us all our trespasses, but we have a problem understanding His forgiveness because we have a poor understanding of the severity of our sins, our condition, and our standing with God. We were spiritually dead in our sins, but Christ has made us alive in Him and forgiven us. Even though we will never "feel" forgiven, we are forgiven, period. Fr. Timothy Reid relays Saint Teresa of Avila's ideas of focusing on forgiveness and the significance of the Our Father. St. Teresa stresses that true forgiveness of others is essential for receiving the Eucharist worthily and highlights how perfect contemplation is marked by a firm resolve to forgive and an indifference to worldly honors. She concludes by affirming that the Our Father encompasses all aspects of perfection and contemplation, and that sincere, humble prayer opens the door to divine grace.Episode 17 covers chapters 36 and 37.LEARN MORE - USE COUPON CODE COM25 FOR 25% OFF:The Way of Perfection: https://bit.ly/3Srb4HJThe Interior Castle (Deluxe Edition): https://bit.ly/3Y06rbcTAN Classics Deluxe Set: https://bit.ly/3XYLbCtThe Interior Castle (Paperback Edition): https://bit.ly/3xJ1GbhThe Autobiography of St. Teresa of Ávila: https://bit.ly/3XWGJUMSt. Teresa of Ávila: Reformer of Carmel: https://bit.ly/3zvBv8fConversation with Christ: The Teachings of St. Teresa of Ávila about Personal Prayer: https://bit.ly/3zzIg9bThe Commentaries is a podcast series from TAN in which you'll learn how to read and understand history's greatest Catholic works, from today's greatest Catholic scholars. Today is day 194 and we are on the section on The Fifth Petition: "And forgive us our trespasses". 194. What are trespasses? A “trespass” is a sin—a thought, word, or deed which offends God's holy character and violates his Law, missing the mark of his will and expectations. (Isaiah 53:6; 1 John 3:4) We will conclude today with The Confession of Sin in Morning Prayer found on page 12 of the Book of Common Prayer (2019).
