I had a wonderful conversation with Lory. Lory has alot going on and she is doing such a remarkable job. She is an entrepreneur that is moving forward in her career. I can see that Lory is on her way to fame. Lory Mpiana is a Congolese Canadian actor, writer, and creative consultant currently living in Toronto. She was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and immigrated to Canada in July of 2002. French is her first language, and she learned to speak English while attending Wexford Public School in Toronto. Some of her credits include In Her City, Sloppy Jones, Confessions, If I Should Die, Pretty for A Whack Girl and Believers. Lory began her acting career at 8 years old. She studied at Armstrong Acting Studios, Cindy Tanas Acting School, Second City, Robyn Kay Studio, Process Theatre, T.U.I.C Studios, and The Actors Work Studio. Lory believes that improv is a very essential tool for the actor and that it makes them think quicker on their feet. She has been perfecting her craft ever since. Lory is in post-production for a feature film called In Her City. She worked closely with award-winning director Carl Bessai as a Story Co-Creator and Actor. In Her City, had its world premiere at the 2020 Whistler Film Festival. She graduated from OYA Emerging Filmmakers, through this program she attended classes on production, directing, writing, editing, and pitching. She is grateful for this program because it gave her access to free education on the business side of the entertainment industry. Pathway 2 Industry has given Lory the tools she needs to succeed in the business. Lory is being mentored by producer Laura Heath Potter the previous Director of Communications for Bell Media's CTV Networks. Lory's first short film is being produce by Laura Heath Potter. Lory Mpiana is cast as Cassie Ley on Sloppy Jones Show and she is the series' creative consultant. Lory manages the Sloppy Jones Twitter account and she is working with the team on YouTube, Blogging, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. They have managed to grow extremely well organically in a short amount of time following best practices and testing different tactics. It has expanded her knowledge about social media, discoverability, analytics, and marketing. Lory has studied numerous Television Shows to get a better idea of where she could see herself within the industry. She often noticed that Black people were underrepresented or if they appeared on screen they were tokenized or rarely had a prominent role. As a young Black woman, Lory's aspires to see BIPOC represented authentically in front and behind the camera. She wants Black children to grow up seeing many people who look like them represented on screen. You can find more about Lory on her website WWW.LORYMPIANA.COM Thank you for listening and supporting. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/caramel-lucas/message
Niia is an American singer, pianist, and songwriter. She submerges herself in deep extremes on her 2022 project, Mouthful of Salt. As if born again in the wake of a tsunami's destruction, the Los Angeles-based jazz/R&B artist slips in and out of oceanic calm like waking from a delicate afternoon dream. She carefully assembles thirteen tracks buoyed by cinematic ambience, airy piano, and vocal echoes. This album is a turning point for Niia - she made the record mostly alone with her engineer in her LA apartment, an old church converted into a haunting living space. Since trading New York for Los Angeles in 2015, she has quietly enchanted audiences, tastemakers, and peers with albums—I [2017] and II: La Bella Vita [2020]—and the If I Should Die EP [2021]. Beyond acclaim from American Songwriter, WORDPLAY, NOCTIS, and more, Rolling Stone hailed If I Should Die as “some of Niia's stickiest work,” and Clash declared, “her musical influences span across various countries and cultures to form a sensuous style that's evocatively smooth.” Along the way, she collaborated with the likes of Jazmine Sullivan, Gallant, Boogie, and Girl Ultra, just to name a few. Following her 2021 project If I Should Die, she evolved once again. “It's the closest I'll get to a religious experiment,” she smiles.
