Jason Glenn, a collegiate (Texas A&M) standout and former NFL (NYJ) player, is the first new football head coach at Klein Oak in 22 years. Glenn waited until he and his trusted mentors - guys like brother Aaron Glenn and Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin - felt he was ready, but since taking the Panthers head coaching job, Glenn has been firing on all cylinders, trying to build an athletic powerhouse in the mold of in-district rival Klein Collins under head coach Drew Svoboda. Glenn discusses the upcoming football season and the meaning of OakEm with Chron's Kevin Cook and TSRN's Dave Fanucchi. Give it a listen!

Engineering Happiness (start time 05:09): You may think the key to happiness lies in money, or love, or more vacation days. But what it really comes down to is math -- a mathematical formula, actually. At least that’s according to a recently published book, called “Engineering Happiness: A New Approach for Building a Joyful Life.” It's co-authored by two business and economics professors: Manel Baucells and Rakesh Sarin. How On Earth co-host Susan Moran interviews Dr. Sarin, a professor at UCLA. The Effects of Black Holes (start time 14:33): Active Galactic Nuclei, or AGNs for short, are vast black holes at the centers of galaxies. But as big as the AGNs are, galaxies are much, much bigger. Regardless, the AGNs do seem to hold some sway. CU-Boulder astronomer Jason Glenn is part of an international team that is beginning to sort out why, and talks with How On Earth's Jim Pullen. We talk with one of the nation’s leading nutrition scientists . . . whose opinions about food and health might not be popular with the American Salt Institute . . . OR with the USDA. Dariush Mozaffarian is with the Harvard School of Public Health, in the department of epidemiology. Current projects include leadership of the Nutrition in Chronic Diseases Expert Group of the Gates Foundation. He'll explain data that indicates processed lean turkey meat and processed lean ham are a greater risk factor for diabetes and heart disease than eating an equal size serving of fresh, fat, juicy steak. Mozaffarian talks with Shelley Schlender. (and for an extended version of the interview, click here) And we talk with CU astronomer Jason Glenn. He's one of the principal investigators on the Z-Spec telescope, operated out of Hawaii. Recently, Glenn's team has discovered an enormous cloud of water hanging in space—12 billion light-years away. Astronomers have never before found water from that far back into the early universe. Glenn talks about the finding with Ted Burnham. Also in this week's show, we talk with Janos Perczel about a new design for an invisibility cloak. Political tension and an ongoing public health crisis have one thing in common: misinformation. So how do we learn what's what? This episode is a conversation starter. In episode four, we look at how belief systems changed and were shaped this past year while tapping into how they evolved in public health and politics. We learn with Dr. Beth Vonnahme, a professor of political science at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Then we speak to Jason Glenn, a historian and philosopher of medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, who explains what he's done to quell misinformation about the COVID vaccine and build bridges to better understanding. What we read and listened to: Here are a few fascinating reads and listens we found during our research for this episode. Dig in and let us know what you think! Tweet us at @vickyd_c and @fentywise. Is there a way to combat or stop people from going down misinformation rabbit holes? This expert says yes. Listen to NPR's Short Wave, a science podcast, to learn how.Vox broke down the famous Nikki Minaj incident where she warned people to “do their own research” about the COVID vaccines. Turns out she was basing her hesitancy on an incident that happened to her cousin in Trinidad, which has become a sort of pop culture meme around the internet. Read more here. Did you know psychologists are studying uncertainty? This American Psychological Association brief outlines a few fascinating facts and includes links to current studies. If so inclined, read it here. Here's a link to the research paper from the International Society of Political Psychology on conspiracy theories, which we cite in the episode.
