One department store. Two opinions. Endless awkward laughs. In this episode of TV Tortured, Jacob and Laura brave the polyester jungle of Are You Being Served?, the British sitcom that asks, “What if your coworkers were walking punchlines with questionable sexual tension?” Focusing on the episode “German Week,” they unravel the glorious mess of cultural misunderstandings, suggestive gags, and the passive-aggressive power plays between Mr. Peacock and Mrs. Slocum. Laura's fully onboard the Grace Brothers train (and possibly driving it), while Jacob wonders if it's time to derail. They debate whether retail ever looked this ridiculous, rate the theme song like it's Eurovision, and ultimately agree: this show is a chaotic gem that America could never quite copy. Tune in for nostalgia, nitpicks, and one very British deep dive.Checkout the new Hopecast website:https://thehopecastnetwork.com/Buy Merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-hopecast-network-swag/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/

Today I'm joined by the dynamic duo behind The Brownstone Boys—Barry Bordelon and Jordan Slocum. Known for their thoughtful restorations and their deep respect for architectural heritage, Barry and Jordan have built a design practice rooted in restoration, storytelling, and heart. What began with the renovation of their own Brooklyn brownstone sparked a passion for salvaging and preserving historic elements—everything from forgotten chandeliers to painted-over hardware. Since then, they've become celebrated voices in the world of preservation and design, known for breathing new life into old spaces while honoring the soul of what came before.Along the way, they've built an impressive roster of clients that includes names like Kerry Washington, Athena Calderone, and Peloton's Anna Greenberg, and they've cultivated a devoted community through their blog, Instagram, and their book, For the Love of Renovating. We explore their emotional connection to the pieces they collect, the thrill of discovery, and the belief that sometimes the most meaningful design begins with what's already there—hidden behind the walls, in the attic, and beneath the floorboards. So please enjoy, this is Barry & Jordan, The Brownstone Boys, for Collectors Gene Radio. The Brownstone Boys - https://thebrownstoneboys.com/Cameron Steiner - https://www.instagram.com/cameronrosssteinerCollectors Gene - https://www.collectorsgene.com

With the vibrant backdrop of New York City as their canvas, they explore the challenges and triumphs of relocating from Michigan to the bustling metropolis. Discover how their shared experiences in a new city shaped their music and lyrics, and how they navigated a scene marked by the closure of historic venues. It took away from that magical notion that musical dreams could be created in NYC. I'm grateful to share a portion of my most recent conversation with Josh Slocum from the Disaffected podcast, where we dive deep into the complexities surrounding Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD) and my new program, ROGD Repair. Have you ever wondered how cluster B personality traits intertwine with gender identity ideology to create a perfect storm for vulnerable youth? What if the very beliefs that are meant to empower these young people are actually leading them down a path of confusion and harm?As we explore the trifecta of social contagion—gender identity ideology, woke beliefs about social justice, and cluster B personality traits—I reveal how these elements can distort the way adolescents perceive themselves and their relationships. What are the common pitfalls parents face when trying to connect with their children caught in this whirlwind? Can more information actually backfire when trying to reach a child who feels morally superior?Join us as we unpack the psychological vulnerabilities at play and discuss practical strategies for parents to navigate these turbulent waters. How can understanding the dynamics of splitting and projection help parents regain their footing? Tune in to discover the answers and learn how ROGD Repair can empower families to foster healthier communication and understanding.Josh Slocum is the host of the weekly show Disaffected, available on Youtube and all usual podcast platforms. Disaffected examines politics and culture through a psychological point of view. Josh's experience coming from an abusive childhood informs the show's working premise that the psychological narcissistic abuse found in families now structures our public life. Captain Joshua Slocum set sail from Nova Scotia in The Spray, his revamped oyster sloop, on 3rd July, 1898: the first solo circumnavigation of the world.  Sailing alone for no reason other than pleasure was considered a fool's errand at the time, but, motivated by the death of his beloved first wife, Virginia, Slocum sought solace in the sea. His memoir, dedicated to ‘the one who believed the Spray would return', detailed his daring journey and struggle against loneliness. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly consider how Slocum survived - given his navigational aids of a broken chronometer and tin clock; explain how he evaded pirates in Gibraltar - in the most long-winded way possible; and explore his cheese-inspired hallucinations…  Further Reading: • 'Joshua Slocum and his first Single-handed Sail around the World' (SciHi, 2021): http://scihi.org/joshua-slocum-around-the-world/ • '“The Spray will Come Back”: Solo Circumnavigator Joshua Slocum' (New Bedford Whaling Museum, 2017): https://www.whalingmuseum.org/exhibition/the-spray-will-come-back/ • ‘The Mysterious Disappearance Of A Sea Pioneer' (Timeline, 2019): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K6ZQiOUG9M Love the show? The intense cravings for drugs can lead individuals to go to great lengths to obtain them, even at the expense of their own health and safety. Recovery is a journey that often involves multiple attempts and different treatment approaches. Finding the right support system and treatment program is crucial for long-term success. The stigma surrounding addiction can make it difficult for individuals to seek help and find understanding from others. Recovery is possible, and with the right support and determination, individuals can rebuild their lives and find a path to a healthier future. Rachel's addiction escalated from pills to heroin to crack, leading to a destructive and all-consuming lifestyle. She went to great lengths to maintain her habit, including manipulating others, robbing people, and hiding her drug use while working as a dental assistant. Despite facing numerous challenges and near-death experiences, Rachel continued to use drugs until a friend called CPS on her, prompting her to seek help. Her son's arrest and subsequent sobriety also played a role in her decision to get sober and turn her life around.
