One of Jewish National Fund-USA's most important bridge-building projects, the Faculty Fellowship Program in Israel, is a competitive academic fellowship that invites full-time university and college faculty members to apply to participate in an all-expenses-paid academic trip to Israel. The Program links scholars from diverse disciplines with their Israeli counterparts at major institutions for the purpose of initiating exchanges and collaborations, with participants gaining a deeper awareness of the many challenges faced by the country and the creativity, spirit, and ingenuity that Israelis bring to tackling these issues. Host Steven Shalowitz sits down with Jody Holland, an Assistant Professor at University of Mississippi, about his experiences on the Faculty Fellowship Program, the connections he made, and Israel defied his preconceived notions.

On this episode, Jody and Meghan discuss how to effectively communicate and listen to each other through: Nonverbal cues, such as eye contact, posture, body language, etc. Various communication channels, whether that means in person, written, or through another person Being intentional about how you say something and not just what you say Incorporating active listening skills during meetings, casual conversations, and the like Setting clear expectations about how you want people to communicate and when it is appropriate Quick Summary: There are different mediums of communication, so you must choose the medium that is most appropriate for the context of your message, and be intentional about how it is delivered. If you are passing along the information through layers of people, your message can change. This highlights the importance of regular and clear communication to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Set clear expectations for your people when assigning tasks, scheduling one-on-ones, planning meetings, etc. In order to communicate effectively, you must also know how to listen effectively. Be receptive to feedback from your people, and make adjustments in your communication style when necessary. The five deadliest words in time management… “Have you got a minute?” On average, interruptions consume about 28% of the workday, and it can take even longer to regain focus. Although an open-door policy seems like a good idea for employees to communicate with you, it is much more effective to schedule out a time when they can approach you. If you don't set boundaries for when people can discuss things with you, you will quickly run out of time throughout the day to do actual work. For more information about the material that Jody and Meghan discussed, you can reference Chapter 4 of "Yay! I'm a Supervisor! Now What?" by Jody Holland. Jody Holland and Brett Beitlich discuss the benefits of using metric evaluations in business. Metrics allow you to make decisions rooted in logic rather than in emotion. They discuss what you lose in turnover costs and the metrics for evaluating that. If what you are doing as a leader is not accomplishing your goals, you need to reevaluate your tactics. You cannot do the same thing over and over and expect different results. If you measure the fundamentals, or the metrics, of what you're doing, the output takes care of itself. Consider this: If you never step back and evaluate whether or not what you are doing is actually getting you what you wanted, how will you know if it was worthwhile? Welcome to Episode Number 8. Today we'll be talking about how my good friend and client doubled his revenue, while working less. I think you'll get a ton of value from this episode because a lot of what Jody has to share is pretty counter-intuitive. Questions asked in this episode Why do you think more people are not doubling their revenue while working less? Why do you feel it's important for entrepreneurs and business owners to understand this concept? How do you define this and how have you found it to improve your ability to make more money? How does someone go about cultivating this BEING thing and integrating into their game of business? For those who are more logical like yourself, how does this spiritual BEING stuff translate into neuroscience? Because I know so many High Achievers believe they don't have time for this stuff. They think they need to work harder and if they work harder, then they'll produce more. So can you explain to them how it works in a practical way? What have you found to be some common pitfalls when it comes to doubling one's revenue while working less? What have you found to be the mover of the needle so to speak when it comes to making more money while working less? What are some bullshit beliefs that have kept you playing small and how did you rewrite those things? What do you feel is actually possible if someone listens to the advice you've shared and actually implements into their life and business? What do you feel is at stake, What's it going to cost someone to believe they have to continue working harder and harder? What is your Psyche of Success Program all about? If you were going to die immediately upon ending this interview, what parting advice would you want to leave here for humanity to hear? FREE WEBINAR So I decided to create a nice Free webinar training to teach you the exact 4 steps that I used to guide Jody to doubling his revenue while working less. If you want in on this, simply head over to www.ajamyx.com/training and grab a spot. I don't know how long I'll leave this particular training up. Jody Holland received his B.A. in Communications from Angelo State University in 1994. He has received specialized training and certifications in physiognomy, conversational hypnosis, team-building, leadership, management, and psychometric testing. Jody's clients would say that his capacity for creating ROI is what they appreciate the most. He normally gets between a 10X and 25X return on their investment. He has been sought after by clients to speak at their retreats, to assist in changing behaviors in top executives as well as coaching C-Suite leaders for success.   What you'll hear in this episode: Jody has worked with all kinds of people, from ex-convicts to Boy Scouts! How Jody discovered that the same principles that define great leaders also define great Christians Three of Jody's favorite books he has written are: The Quest: How to Discover God's Call for Your Life, The Six Demons of Fear, and My Judo Life: How to Turn the Challenges of Life in Your Favor and Propel Yourself Forward. Jody claims daily inspiration from II Timothy 1:7 and living in God's spirit of calmness and sanity. Which spirit are YOU living in today? A defining moment for Jody came in 2003 during his prayer time, but he was trapped in what was an unfulfilling profession for 12 more years before realizing his calling to write and speak. Of the Seven Cultural Mountains, Jody believes he is called to Art and Business. From Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill: “Every setback holds within it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.”  Jody tells the story of one particular failure, when he held training in Madrid for pharmaceutical researchers and couldn't even communicate with them using his “Texas-brand Spanish.” Laugh along with us! Jody remembers a defining moment at age 4, when he first knew he wanted to talk in  front of people for a living. After leaving the technology world, Jody finally claimed his calling to write books, speak, and train others. How many people NEVER claim their calling? Let's Get Real Round Questions: What is your biggest strength? “Being able to see wisdom beyond just the realm of the physical world, and to put it on paper.” What is your biggest weakness inside that strength? “Missing the rest of the world when getting into writing. I need to have a balance.” Kung Fu Round Questions: How do you share the gospel in your daily life? “I try to live as an example of the behavior with which Jesus lived. I teach those leadership examples and then people ask me about something deeper. This opens the door for me to share the gospel.” What is a daily habit that contributes to your walk with God? “It's my prayer life. I've learned to be quiet and still and to get in tune with Christ.” What is a recent helpful book that you've read? “I love anything by Max Lucado. Two that come to mind are Cure for the Common Life and Wild at Heart.” What is a resource that you can recommend to our listeners? “I love www.audible.com  and Automobile University. I also recommend my blog, www.jodyholland.com.  What advice would you give to the “younger” you? “I would speak to myself on the first day of 8th grade, when I was SO concerned about what people thought of me. “Be confident in you. Find out as soon as you can WHO you were designed to be, and STOP caring what other people think of you.” What parting advice do you have for our listeners? “Each of us was designed for greatness. We weren't designed to be miserable. Claim the connection to God that you were created to have. The only definition of you that really matters is that you are a child of God. Everything else is secondary.” Resources: www.jodyholland.com Email: jody@jodyholland.com. www.amazon.com (Find Jody's books!)
