You're not serious until Taylor Swift fires you! Todd talked about playing the guitars on Kacey Musgraves records, songwriting with Lera Lynn, keeping the magic in the music during tracking sessions, and how to find new chord shapes for your guitar. Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Todd Lombardo, an ACM acoustic session guitar player-of-the-year nominee, producer and songwriter living in Nashville TN. Most notably known for his contributions to Kacey Musgraves “Golden Hour”. He is also responsible for Canadian platinum productions as well as numerous number one country hits as a session player. I first met Todd when he brought the artist Mickey Cash over to The Toy Box Studio for me to mix. I was struck by his great production ideas, arrangement decisions, and guitar playing. Years later we reconnected over at Craig Alvins East Nashville studio which he occupies now. It also turned out we were both interested in weird stuff beyond music like Wim Hof and cold exposure Ice Baths for good health and ultimately we became neighbors. More recently I got to hear a new record he recorded with his partner in life and music Lera Lynn that sounds amazing. So I'm psyched to learn more about what Todd is doing in the studio and get some great recording, production, and mixing tricks for you Rockstars. ESPN and Baltimore Orioles broadcaster Kevin Brown makes his return to You, Me and An Album, after first appearing on episode 15 (with Lindsey Adler) to discuss Oasis' Definitely Maybe, This time, Kevin chose Kacey Musgraves' 2018 album, Golden Hour. Kevin talked about how he got into this album, which tracks are his favorites and what makes this album one that he still goes back to listen to regularly.Corrections and clarifications:Kevin asked me how many other repeat guests have been on the show, and I wasn't sure of the exact number. I can now confirm that he is the fourth guest to have appeared on two episodes of this podcast.I referred to there being auto-tune at the beginning and end of “Oh. What a World.” Kevin noted that those sections featured vocoder, and in retrospect, I realized that I mistook vocoder for an auto-tuned vocal. I will be writing more on this in the upcoming edition of YMAAA: The Newsletter.I misspoke in my analysis of “Happy & Sad” I said it was “simplistic but not simple,” but I actually meant to say it the other way around. In any event, I was just trying to say it's a great song.Be sure to follow Kevin on Twitter at @kevinnbrown and to read his posts at https://www.kevinreviewsthings.com/!Al is on Twitter at @almelchiorBB, and this show has accounts on Twitter and Instagram at @youmealbum. Closing out Jacklyn's stan week, we step back in time to Kacey Musgraves' timeless Golden Hour and wonder how someone could ever make an album this perfect again. We dive into why we think this album features the best breakup song of all time and how this album continues to change our lives.
In this season's finale, and our second Patreon Special, we're again handing the reins to a regular listener, so that we get to hear an album that is special to them. This time, the decision falls to one of our earliest fans - Cody Gobert - who wants our take on Golden Hour, by Kacey Musgraves. According to Cody: “softly strummed acoustic guitars that blur into sepia haze; boundless pedal steel as conduit for eternity, communing so effortlessly with touches of space-age funk that you wonder why nobody ever did it before. It's a PERFECT COUNTRY RECORD.” Well said, Cody. Thanks for supporting the show in our first season. This is Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves, suggested by Cody Gobert. Other topics include: a little exploration of the Celtic languages, our own prince Charlie takes a trip to Buckingham Palace, Elvis as a first name, and most definitely not Cheryl Cole's recording studio. All that and more, on this episode of Between The Tracks.

In January of 2019, Daniel Tashian won the coveted Album of the Year award at the Grammy’s for his work on the Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour album. In our latest Truetone Lounge interview, we sit down with the award-winning producer/songwriter/guitarist to talk about the album, and how he began collaborating with Musgraves. He also shares how he was inspired by seeing his father perform with Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band, and his journey as an artist, songwriter, and producer. Daniel also talks about the ephemeral nature of inspiration, his attempts at capturing it, and how sounds and tones influence him.
In this episode, we go through the interworkings of Kacey Musgraves' "Golden Hour" albumI do not own the rights to this music. All rights to Kacey Musgraves.
My guest today is Shawn Èverett, a Juno and Grammy-winning Canadian producer, engineer, previously a guest on episode RSR137. In that interview, we talked with Shawn about his background schooling and his production and mixing philosophies. He has worked with many great artists including Grammy-winning Alabama Shakes, Weezer, Margaret Glaspy, Pete Yorn, Warpaint, John Legend, The Killers, Julian Casablancas, and The Voidz, Kesha, Har Mar Superstar, Local Natives, and many many others. In 2019 he won his fifth Grammy for mixing Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour which included songwriting and production from Daniel Tashian and engineering from Craig Alvin both previous guests on the show as well. You can hear their episodes at RSR176 and RSR232. I’ll have these links in the show notes. I have also become a huge fan of Sound & Color by the Alabama Shakes which Shawn engineered and mixed winning a Grammy in 2015. I feel like this record has set the bar pretty high for my own mixes. Are you alright with a slow burn? Kacey Musgraves sure is, and so are we. The boys have their first guest, longtime friend/music aficionado Matthew Walko come by to discuss Golden Hour, the bonafide country-pop slam dunk from Nashville's favorite daughter. Big shout-out to Matt for our new theme song and segment intros!!
Daniel Tashian is a GRAMMY, CMA and ACM Award-winning musician renowned for his work on Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Golden Hour,’ wrote and recorded 8 original songs with his daughters Tigerlily, Tinkerbell and Matilda. Drawing inspiration from his own childhood with Sesame Street and Pink Panther, Tashian created the Mr. Moonlight character to help with his daughters’ bedtime anxiety. Mr. Moonlight “watches over” them as they fall asleep. Before the Stay-At-Home order, Tashian was spending a lot of time away from home. Quarantine gave the Tashian's family a chance to bond, so instead of diving into a new musical project of his own, he wanted to give the kids a chance to share their imagination. Check out his full song 'How Old Should I Be' at the end of the episode! Continue reading Episode #263 – Daniel Tashian on the site.
