Have you ever had a difficult day and just asked yourself, "Why can't I get it together?"Maybe you lost your temper with your spouse, or you're exhausted from running around after your kids all day. Maybe your work project isn't going how you had hoped, or you feel overwhelmed by every little thing.Between the endless list of obligations and responsibilities you have and all the things you're "supposed" to do or be, it's just too much. You're trying to “get it together”,  but you still feel worlds away from where you think you should be.In this episode, Jordan talks with author Jamie Ivey about six areas of our lives that affect our perspectives on success and what the Bible has to say about unrealistic expectations.Tune in to learn:How the acronym P.O.N.D.E.R. can help you assess the areas of your life that feel out of controlThe difference between an obligation and a responsibilityHow to know when you have taken on too many obligations and what obligations you need to let go ofThe difference between our pursuit of perfectionism and the pursuit of holinessHow your community can help you "get it together"Want to dig deeper into this topic? Jamie recently released a statement on Instagram that she is stepping away from podcasting for a while. As a team, we have decided to air the six conversations that were recorded prior to May 20th. We decided to do this to honor the guests, the projects they have worked on, and the stories they are sharing. On today's show Jamie Ivey and Kat Armstrong discuss the podcast series 'Holy Curiosity' and the encounter of the Samaritan woman with Jesus at the well. Kat Armstrong was born in Houston, Texas, where the humidity ruins her Mexi-German curls. She is a powerful voice in our generation as a sought-after Bible teacher, innovative ministry leader, and the host of the Holy Curiosity podcast. She holds a master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and is pursuing a D.Min. from Houston Christian University. Kat is the author of No More Holding Back, The In-Between Place, and a 6-study Bible study series, the Storyline Project. In 2008, Kat cofounded the Polished Network to embolden women in their faith and work. She and her husband, Aaron, have been married for twenty one years and live in Dallas, Texas, with their son, Caleb, and attend Dallas Bible Church, where Aaron serves as the lead pastor.Jamie and Kat address misconceptions about the Samaritan woman's character and explore the theological conversation she had with Jesus. They also highlight the impact of her testimony on the people in her town and the significance of Jesus prioritizing this encounter.  We hope after this conversation you'll see how everyone can encounter Jesus in unexpected places and be transformed by the power of encountering Him in our own lives. Thanks for listening and sharing with a friend! SHOW LINKS:-Connect with Kat Armstrong-Holy Curiosity Podcast-Why Can't I Get It Together

I've really struggled to put into words all that I wanted to say to you today because the last few months have been difficult for me as I've been seeking what God wants me to do with the podcast. I've been doing this for 3-1/2 years now and have recently been in a deep season of discouragement. As I prayed and continually asked God what my next steps should be, I only sensed silence from Him. I've gone through seasons of silence before, but this has been especially hard because I wanted to make sure I was being obedient to what God wanted me to do, not just put out a podcast to build my own, or anyone else's, platform. To be honest, I've been so discouraged that I had pretty much decided I was going to shut it all down. And to be completely honest, podcasting can be lonely and discouraging. When I couldn't see a direction to where God was leading, I just wanted to throw in the towel. In this episode I will share what God has been showing me recently, an update of what's going on with my family and my plans for the future of the podcast. Why does it seem so hard to get it all together? Running kids around to get to their schedule activities, spending time with friends or your spouse, investing in your health, and the list can go on! It can be overwhelming figuring out how to keep it all together while we run around feeling overwhelmed and defeated. But maybe we're asking the wrong question. Instead of asking why can't I get it together, maybe we should ask, are we setting realistic expectations? To wrap up this season we have Jamie Ivey on the show to talk about her new book, Why Can't I Get It Together? Angie and Jamie discuss how we can avoid giving in to what the world, or even yourself, says things are "supposed" to be. and shares practical ways you can define your reality, ponder your circumstances, stop self-shame, create realistic expectations, and move forward in joy and peace! We want freedom for you and we're certain this conversation will start you on the path to kicking unrealistic expectations to the curb! Hey friends! Welcome back to another birthday countdown episode! We are so excited about turning 10 years old in just a few weeks! Every Friday we've been playing episodes from our very first season. If you haven't caught up, we highly suggest you go back and listen! It's crazy how topics we talked about over ten years ago can still have so much relevance and meaning today! On today's show we throw it back to the very first conversation with Susie Davis. Susie is an author, blogger, speaker and church founder. Susie is married to Will Davis Jr., the founding and senior pastor of Austin Christian Fellowship, and together they have three children. Aside from family and ministry, Susie is helplessly addicted to horseback riding and McDonald's coffee. In addition, one of her all time favorites is cooking and enjoying family dinners. Jamie and Susie discuss how they both ended up in radio accidentally, and also how hard it is to follow your passions individually when you also feel as though you are supposed to be giving so much to your family. Susie shares about what started her down the road of being a fearful person and how that ruled her world for so many years. We know by the end of this episode you'll be encouraged to live unafraid and kick fear to the curb! Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend! SHOW LINKS:-Unafraid: Trusting God in An Unsafe World-Loving Your Man Without Losing Your Mind-Parenting Your Teen and Loving It-Uncovered: Revealing the Secrets of a Sexy Marriage-The Time of Your Life: Finding God's Rest In Your Busy Schedule-Connect with Susie Davis-Connect with Jamie Ivey

Jamie has fought against the lie that everyone else has it together, and she is lacking or falling behind. The truth is, none of us do.   In this episode, we discuss the unrealistic expectations church leaders, pastors' wives, and women in general face that deter us from walking in holiness rather than a facade of perfection. Have you been following Jesus for a while and maybe have become disillusioned with it all? Maybe you're someone who has needed to detangle your faith and the beliefs you were raised under. What if all of that was because of the ways we've been formed by modern western Christianity, and not by Jesus himself. In today's episode John Mark Comer shares with us how we can truly be in relationship with Jesus, become like Jesus over time, and then do as Jesus did in our life. John Mark Comer is the founder of Practicing the Way, a nonprofit designed to create simple resources for church communities around the world. He is a New York Time's bestselling author of seven books, including The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, one of my favorite books! John Mark holds a master's degree in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary and these days, you can find him continuing to read, listen, and learn what it looks like to follow Jesus in community. I hope this episode encourages you to look, sound, and act more like Jesus! SHOW LINKS:Ruthless Elimination of Hurry Practicing the Way Why Can't I Get It Together The Happy Hour Book ClubThe Other Year The Body Keeps the ScoreConnect with Jamie Ivey!

Why is it hard to be vulnerable? What are the characteristics of a safe person? If you fear being vulnerable but want to try, listen to Jamie Ivey.  Being vulnerable with safe people in the midst of your mess is a sacred space. Saying “I'm struggling too” is a saint's cry. Wherever you struggle today, Whether it's struggling with sin and temptation, a hard season in your marriage, or doubting God's goodness and sovereignty in the midst of a cancer diagnosis, God longs for you to tell Him about it – to be vulnerable with Him and to share it with a sister in Christ.  But many of us – for very valid reasons – are skittish and reticent to be vulnerable.  I can think of no one better to cheer us on toward vulnerability than today's guest, Jamie Ivey. In today's episode, you'll receive practical strategies and anchoring truths to answer the question, “Why is it hard to be vulnerable?”. You'll learn: why we don't want to be vulnerable, six characteristics of a safe person, what to do when you suffer from a vulnerability hangover, and three questions to ask when you're ready to be vulnerable. Today you'll hear both Jonathan and Yannely talk about what happens when we say ‘yes' to sponsoring a child, and how families and generations are changed forever through Compassion sponsorships.  This is a great opportunity and conversation…and I'm glad you are here for it!Mentioned in the show:The Happy Hour Episode 341:  https://pod.link/880741976/episode/8a9993ee592022ca48724cf1e3131b4eCompassion:  Sponsor a child with compassion.com/iveymedia - https://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/?referer=647707Links to Messiah:  https://linkstomessiah.com/  Use SOCKS at the checkout for Hannakah socks in your first boxPrep for Marriage:  https://legacycountdown.com/Prep Dish:  2 weeks for free:https://prepdish.com/subscribe/free-trial-2-weeks/?utm_source=infusionsoft&utm_medium=aff&utm_medium=podcast&utm_source=prettylink&utm&utm_campaign=mpangie&cookieUUID=ad784ae4-85f0-4bd6-95d4-6d094a55de8dConnect With Angie:Website: chatologie.comIG: @angiebrownelkinsTwitter: @AngieelkinsFacebook: @chatologieangieelkinsProduced and Edited by Lainie ThomasContact: lainie@angieelkinsmedia.com for more info

I am so glad that we get to share this conversation with you. I sat down and talked to Justin Giboney last Spring for a breakout at the IF: Gathering. Our talk was so good I asked them if I could share it with you all and they said YES!Living with Compassion and ConvictionIn an extremely divisive world, what if there was a “third way” that would show the world God's heart for humanity? What if our greatest evangelical tool was how we responded to today's cultural issues with grace, love, and truth? Join Justin Giboney, founder of the AND Campaign, and Jamie Ivey, as they discuss how to live with conviction and lead with compassion.

As I think about raising kids from birth through high school, this is the thing that sticks out the most for me. My worries about them and for them have evolved so much over the years. It seems like worry is a natural part of parenting. But, what good does worry do for us? Usually, we are worrying about something we actually have no control over. In this episode of Launch, Jamie and Lisa unpack the deep shadows of worrying about our kids, how it's often a reflection of our own insecurities, and how we can bury our worries by clinging to the only thing we need. Resources:Subscribe to LAUNCH so you never miss an episodeKids: What do I do with Worry? “Jesus, I want to believe you. I think that you are real, and I don't know what that means.”These are the bold and sincere words that today's guest prayed at the very moment she encountered Jesus for the first time. As we continue with our “Encounter” series, today you will get to meet our guest Phaedra Taylor. She is kind, and a very talented artist located in Austin, TX. I could talk to her for hours. Her story is so incredible and so powerful. Phaedra was raised in a cult as a Jehovah's Witness. For years she lived an oppressed and controlled life, and that was the only way she knew how to live it. Until one day, when her life was completely falling apart, she had an encounter with Jesus. This encounter was a fruit of prayers and intentionality from Christian friends she met in college. Grab some tissues, go listen, and make sure to check out Phaedra's work linked in this episode's  show notes.Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE
