My guest for this episode is Deremy Dove, from Bigger Than the Game podcast with Deremy and Jose. Deremy and Jose break down sports of all sorts from a historical perspective. Their most recent episode is also a rewatch. They broke down Game 4 of the 1983 NBA finals, Sixers v Lakers, with guest Pete Croatto which you can find here. I brought on Deremy today to do a watchalong of the 2000 Portland Trail Blazers v LA Lakers Game 7. I want to deep dive into this game because I recently read Kerry Eggers book “Jail Blazers' which chronicles the rise and fall of the early 2000s Portland Trail Blazers. It got me really thinking about great teams that never won it all. You can find the game here, but I can't promise the video will be up when you click the link! There is absolutely NO better way to end our Trail Blazers project than to end with our favorite sports writer to cover those teams! We had so much fun and we can't thank Dwight Jaynes enough for taking the time to hang out and talk Trail Blazers with us! We hope you all enjoy!
We have finally reached the end of an era. We strongly advise you to listen to Jail Blazers (Part 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) before moving forward to this final Jail Blazer episode. Eric, Zach and Craig consider these final seasons to lead us out of the Jail Blazer era. We go over the 2003 through 2007 Trail Blazer seasons and discuss all of the distractions within the organization that keeps building on to this "Jail Blazer" image and what changes are made to lead us OUT of the Jail Blazer era. We discuss a lot of of news stories, specific games, locker room/player drama, and reference some incredible information from the book Jail Blazers written by Kerry Eggers (a fantastic read by the way!). We hope this episode provides a lot of laughs but we also hope this gives you an understanding of just how dysfunctional this team was from a players, coaches, management and fan base standpoint. Was this organization deserving of being known as the Jail Blazers or was this completely overblown by media and fans? Our goals is to lay out all of the information available and try to decide. ENJOY!
