For this issue of Knowledge Counts, we are speaking with three CIQS members who share the path they took to join CIQS and earn their designations.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got up early this morning to exorcise the remaining demons that popped up during Washington's 24-19 Apple Cup loss, shoving that game finally to the side once and for all, and then getting to the game at hand, the Huskies hosting the Northwestern Wildcats. It's a bit of history, as Northwestern and Washington have already played three times, but today's game marks the first ever Big Ten Conference game for the Huskies. What are the guys looking for when judging UW's response to their first adversity of the season? Kim is going to be looking to see how the Huskies come out of the tunnel for their pregame warmups; Chris wants to see how they do at the line of scrimmage, and Scott is looking to see if they can finally solve the problem of their slow starts. The guys talk about the offense, the run game behind Jonah Coleman and the passing game and the somewhat surprising development that Giles Jackson has become Will Rogers' go-to receiver instead of either Denzel Boston or Jeremiah Hunter. They also talk a little bit about Washington's injury situation with Carson Bruener (questionable) and Quentin Moore (doubtful). After a quick break, the guys go further with their game points, including what they need to see when it comes to eliminating a big problem with penalties, as well as cleaning up their cover on special teams. Talk turns to Brandon Roy sounding the siren and today's Husky Legend, Tank Johnson. Did you know Tank was a volleyball star in high school? And there's a definite reason why BRoy is being involved in today's pregame festivities; it has to do with recruiting. Speaking of recruiting, Scott provides an update on the number of 2025 commits visiting Montlake this weekend, as well as top 2026 stars. And then they go through their final thoughts before closing the show. In this episode we chat with Kelly Edwards, Founder of Local Hoops and Head Coach for Bellevue High School Basketball. Kelly has some amazing knowledge and experience when it comes to leadership and coaching and he shares that with us today! About Kelly: "Kelly played for O'Dea High school, and won the state 3A championship three out of his four years there, 04, 05, 07 (they lost in the championship game his junior year- 06). After O'Dea he played for Che Dawson at Highline Community College. They won the Western Division title his sophomore year, giving them the #1 seed to the NWAC tournament, where they lost in the semi-finals. Kelly went on to play at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon for his junior and senior years. He was named Second-Team All Conference his junior year, with 16.5 points and 5 rebounds per game, and First Team All Conference his senior year, with 19 points and 7 rebounds per game, ranking his Pioneers as high as #24 in the nation that year. After college Kelly played professionally for the ABA, and is still active in the Jamal Crawford Summer Pro League. In 2019 summer he averaged 28 ppg, 9.5 rpg & 7.5 apg. Kelly turned down professional opportunities overseas to grow LocalHOOPS into what it is today. He has played with or against the likes of NBA pros such as: Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas, Martell Webster, Brandon Roy, Jason Terry, Lamarcus Aldridge, Terry Rozier, Dejounte Murray, Zach Lavine, James Johnson, Earl Clark, Mario Chalmers, and many more. Outside of basketball, Kelly is a father of 3 – when you are in the gym keep an eye out for his wife Cindy, who is head of operations for LocalHOOPS, and his two sons KJ & Kamani, as well as his daughter Kamaya, who are already beginning to work on their handle. Throughout it all, Kelly's passion remains Local Hoops and its athletes. He loves giving back to the community that gave him so much. "I wouldn't trade this for the world!"." While the best steak in Dallas, Texas, might be fighting words, I'll stand by them. I knew this was going to be the case while walking up to Brandon Roy's patio, seeing a deep bed of hot coals glowing in his custom parilla. "You have to respect first contact," he later says about grilling steaks perfectly. But way more goes into it. See, for Brandon Roy, the entire process of grilling and smoking meats is a labor of love. And it shows. Andre Miller, one of the great floor generals of the 2000's, joins Forgotten Seasons to talk 2010 Blazers. This was Dre's first season in Portland and he joined a team that was coming off a breakout 54-win season led by the budding Brandon Roy. Unfortunately, the main storylines from this season were devastating injuries to both Roy and Greg Oden. Oden would star in the first 21 games but a knee injury ended his season. Roy got 65 games deep (including an All-Star selection) but a knee injury effectively ended his season as well. Andre did his thing, playing all 82 games and helping Portland win 50 games.
