Ian is surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for the potential NBA return to Seattle and while we see what we do from listeners, he thinks it's still going to be huge when it comes back. Portland ownership is following the Clay Bennett playbook, but Ian doesn't see them moving. Dwight Jaynes, The Godfather of Portland joins Ian to talk about the state of the Blazers under new ownership. They recap the "Jail Blazers" documentary and the way it portrayed that era in Portland. Dwight tells us what the reaction to Tom Dundon's lead as the new owner of the Blazers. What are the chances Dundon moves the team? Dwight gets our attention with his answer. Ian is on the rollercoaster of NBA emotions. Ian has another sports confession. He is done with Scott Van Pelt, not because he doesn't like him - but ESPN is shoving him down our throats. He's so talented and Ian respects him, but it's too much. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins Ian to review the recent managerial changes we've seen in MLB. What is a 'poor tactician' when it comes to managers? Joe takes a look at what's going on with Luis Castillo. Should he take a 10-day rest? Cal Raleigh is heating up and we're starting to see the power come back - are we starting to see "Cal be Cal" again? We're not gonna see the 2025 version again, but that's just too much to expect. The Daily Power Play! Ian takes a look at the NHL playoff matchups we're witnessing right now. Plus, there's some Kraken news. John Lund, Unleashed! And Westwood One is on time again! What a heater, though he does enjoy stressing us out. He breaks down what he saw in the NFL draft from both the Seahawks and the 49ers. Checking in on the Talkbacks and Text Line! The NBA playoffs are here and the first stress test is already brutal. The Golden State Warriors' season ended Friday night in the play-in tournament, falling to the Phoenix Suns 111-96. Steph Curry went 4-for-16. Draymond Green got ejected. Steve Kerr's future is uncertain.  We break down whether the Warriors dynasty is officially over or if one bold offseason move can buy Curry one more run. Then we shift to the Western Conference's most intriguing first-round story: can Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs survive the playoffs with the youngest roster in the West? Wemby is putting up 25.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 3.1 BPG at 22 years old, surrounded by players with zero playoff experience. Is this how dynasties are born, or is youth about to get exposed? Plus we break down the Netflix "Untold: Jail Blazers" documentary. The early 2000s Portland Trail Blazers had the talent to compete for a championship and imploded anyway. Rasheed Wallace, Damon Stoudamire, Bonzi Wells. Was the "Jail Blazers" label fair, or did a complicated story get flattened into a headline? 26 years later, the doc is making people ask the question again. Big Ben and K Winn. Sharp takes. The Jail Blazers and the Nash-Nowitzki Mavs were two of the most interesting teams of the early 2000s. The Nash and Nowitzki pairing with Don Nelson at the helm pushed offense to new heights as the rest of the league lagged behind. The Jail Blazers had one of the most interesting motley crews in league history led by Rasheed Wallace. In 2003, these teams made history as Portland became the 3rd team to ever forced a Game 7 after going down 3-0. Alex and Gabe breakdown Game 7 of that series, the legacies of these teams, and talk a lot about Arvydas Sabonis and Bill Walton. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, the Portland Trail Blazers were one of the hottest teams in the NBA. For almost a decade, they won 60 percent of their games while making it to the Western Conference Finals twice. However, what happened off-court was just as unforgettable as what they did on the court. When someone asked Blazers general manager Bob Whitsitt about his team’s chemistry, he replied that he’d “never studied chemistry in college.” And with that, the “Jail Blazers” were born. Built in a similar fashion to a fantasy team, the team had skills, but their issues ended up being their undoing. In fact, many consider it the darkest period in franchise history. While fans across the country were watching the skills of Damon Stoudamire, Rasheed Wallace, and Zach Randolph, those in Portland couldn’t have been more disappointed in the players’ off-court actions. This, many have mentioned, included a very racial element—which carried over to the players as well. As forward Rasheed Wallace said, “We’re not really going to worry about what the hell [the fans] think about us. They really don’t matter to us. They can boo us every day, but they’re still going to ask for our autographs if they see us on the street. That’s why they’re fans and we’re NBA players.” In his book Jail Blazers: How the Portland Trail Blazers Became the Bad Boys of Basketball (Sport Publishing, 2018), Kerry Eggers, who covered the Trail Blazers during this controversial era, goes back to share the stories from the players, coaches, management, and those in Portland when the players were in the headlines as much for their play as for their legal issues.
