Don't be fooled by the shelves upon shelves of useless crap, Leland Gaunt will run down to his little basement to get the thing you most desire in this world. In Stephen King's Needful Things (1993), the Devil (maybe) comes to Castle Rock to sow discord between the good townsfolk. And whilst he proves he can see the future, he fails to predict just how boring two hours of cinema can be.Music created by Jack Parsons.Follow us on Twitter & Instagram and check out our YouTube channel.

Welcome to the Haunted Library. This month's installment is all about the so called “last Castle Rock Story,” Needful Things. We're your hosts, Ryan and Sherri, the founding members of the Castle Rock Book Club. I think this was the Castle Rock story that we were most looking forward to reading. "Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed," usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior."Contact/Follow Us Email: scaredycats.podcats@gmail.comTwitter: @CatsScaredyInstagram: @scaredycatsthepodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZaoOcdQ3bSS3iTFLhO4A2QRyan:Twitter: @ryanm642Website: ryanmills.artThe Castle Rock Book Club: https://www.facebook.com/groups/358809789190164/Support the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)
Buyer beware in Castle Rock, as Leland Gaunt only wants a little of your money, and all of your soul. Stephen King's 1994 novel Needful Things gets a dismantling with returning guest Dan Jones. One of our mutual favourites, and one of the stories that signposted the interesting development King's work would take in the 1990s, as he starts to leave Maine behind (in explosive fashion) and branches out to weirder climes.... Dan Jones is the author of Man o' War, published by Snowbooks which can be purchased from amazon, forbidden planet.......and he has his own website www.danjonesbooks.club, he is also the co-host of the SFF Chrons podcast, a new pod dealing with deep dives into the classics of the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. I am going to be guest soon talking about An American Werewolf in London, and am very excited to be part of this new series. This week Derry Public Radio continues their Patreon Selection Series with “Needful Things” chosen by Joel Jones. Tune in as we discuss the return of the Bad Boy of Castle Rock, Ace Merrill, the dark path of Brian Rusk, the plethora of Lovecraft references, CM reveals her hate of slapstick, Leland Gaunt reaches a new level of evil, and the dominos come crashing down in the final chapter of this reading. We teach you the truth of value on Episode 73, “Rice is the Best Thing”.
Max Von Sydow is dead. Time for a little retrospective with Gilbert and Lee's memories of the film "Needful Things" where the actor shines as Leland Gaunt aka The Devil. CORRECTION: Gil and Lee refer to the film "The Seventh Sign" when they mean to say "The Seventh Seal" during their discussion.
Things are getting a little heated in Castle Rock. Leland Gaunt's having a fire sale over at Needful Things, and the town is losing their minds. Fortunately, the Losers are safely shacked up in the Mellow Tiger, where they can continue discussing Stephen King's epic 1991 classic. Chapters include: Intro, Misery (4:30), Word Processor of the Gods (33:00), The Sematary (53:00), Poundcake (1:20:00), King's Dominion (1:37:00), and Final Thoughts (1:52:00). Who wins, Max Von Sydow vs. The Devil? What happens when Max Von Sydow *is* The Devil? We don't have the answers for you. What we do have is two movies about The Devil, as November's vanguard brings Monstoberfest to a close. First up, Trevor and Matt sample a slice of the classic William Friedkin horror masterpice: THE EXORCIST. The guys watched the movie and they have thoughts they'd like to share. Specifically if THE EXORCIST manages to get past Matt's predisposition to disliking demon-posession films? Von Sydow plays an elderly priest and archeologist, who is asked to help rid a young girl of her literal demons. Second on the docket: Max Von Sydow takes up arms against the other side. In NEEDFUL THINGS, Von Sydow plays the charismatic and manipulative Leland Gaunt, proprietor of a small-town antique store. However Gaunt isn't as he appears to be, he's actually doing a great bit of schemeing and tempting, leaving it up to Ed Harris to get to the bottom of things. Does The Devil make us do bad things, or were we just not living up to our evil potential?
