Mija dwadzieścia lat od powstania Platformy Obywatelskiej. 11 stycznia 2001 roku Andrzej Olechowski, Maciej Płażyński i Donald Tusk zapowiedzieli stworzenie nowego centrowego ruchu społeczno-politycznego. Dwa tygodnie później powołali stowarzyszenie Platforma Obywatelska, którą potem przekształcono w partię polityczną. Jeden z jej założycieli w województwie lubelskim i były poseł pięciu kadencji Stanisław Żmijan uważa, że utworzenie PO było możliwe dzięki aktywności i przedsiębiorczości Polaków. - Ludzie chcieli wziąć sprawy w swoje ręce, chcieli zarabiać na własny rachunek. Miałem szczęście, że uczestniczyłem w tych wielkich wydarzeniach i wielkich zmianach jakie działy się wówczas w Polsce – mówi Stanisław Żmijan, który był gościem rozmowy w Radiu Lublin.
