Despite having a world-class healthcare industry and some equally impressive companies, the ASX healthcare sector has been code blue over the last 12 months and is in dire need of a defibrillator.  The sector has been the third-worst performer over the period, down around 2%. So, what gives? Well, COVID didn't help, and healthcare companies have never been 'cheap' historically, but it does beg the question - is the sector due for a turnaround? And, far more importantly, as it concerns Buy Hold Sell, which stocks could lead the charge?   To help answer those questions, Livewire's Chris Conway was joined by David Wilson from First Sentier Investors, and Matt Williams from Airlie Funds Management.  Not only do the guests run the ruler over a handful of healthcare names, but they also each identify one healthcare company they believe is set for a big year ahead.  Please note this episode was recorded on 30 July 2025.

Investing feels easier when markets are messy. When volatility spikes and fear takes hold, putting fresh capital to work can feel rational, even opportunistic. But when markets are cruising near record highs, valuations look stretched, and AI stocks are powering ahead like a runaway train, adding to a portfolio can feel unnerving. It's a sentiment shared by many right now. With the ASX 200 trading at elevated multiples and earnings growth on track to post its third consecutive annual decline, the contradiction is hard to ignore. But according to FNArena Editor Rudi Filapek-Vandyck, it's not a bubble, and the market isn't broken. The real problem? Investors are using the wrong lens. “The averages are masking the detail,” he argues. High index-level valuations are being distorted by a handful of heavyweight stocks, while strong underlying growth is still coming through in key parts of the market. He shares his origin story of discovering comics as a kid growing up in Brooklyn and Staten Island, working at comic retailer Jim Hanley's store during high school, and his transition from wanting to study animation at the School of Visual Arts to focusing on comics at NYU. CAPTAIN BILLY'S MAGIC EIGHT BALL: ALBERT KING LIVE WIRE/BLUES POWERSo, there were three “Kings” of the blues: B.B., Freddie, and Albert. B.B. had the delicate simplicity. Less was always more with his virtuosity. He was a consummate communicator and showman, and much beloved. Freddie had the muscle and the size. A big man who stood 6'5'', he was all grit and groan. From his early days when he recorded Hideaway, up through his resurrection in the 70s by Leon Russell's Shelter label and the unbelievable propulsion of I'm Goin' Down, Freddy blew the doors off whatever venue he graced, but this energy proved too much to sustain; leading to his untimely death at age 42.My favorite was Albert. Also tall, 6'4,'' he was nicknamed “The Velvet Bulldozer”. Brandishing Lucy, his Gibson Flying V guitar - his ear was impeccable, as was his timing, guiding him through licks that have such sinuous grace, as he bends those out of tune strings into perfect harmony, as if they are taffy - but, also displays deep emotional power - a stinging embodiment of the Cross Cut Saw in action. The sound he produced was beefy, yet lyrical at the same time. His birth name was Nelson, but he copped the surname King, and claimed he was related to BB, in order to catch some of the latter's reflected glory. It was a tough road for Albert, and though he never reached the widespread recognition that his namesake garnered, his influence on the younger generations - including Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn is undeniable. Cream's Born Under A Bad Sign was just a simulacrum - a note for note tribute.In 1968, Albert played three nights at the legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco, and this recording, produced by Stax Records, documents that immortal outing. When you hear his dissertation on Blues Power - punctuated by those gleaming licks, that's all you need to know.

For all the scrutiny on private credit of late, one thing remains clear – there remains an insatiable demand for it from investors. Case in point, the recent $315 million raise by Metrics Credit Partners for the Metrics Master Income Trust. It was done in a day. Yet for the man often at the centre of the conversation, Metrics co-founder and Chief Investment Officer, Andrew Lockhart, the mission remains the same as when Metrics was born 12 years ago: raise capital, deploy it sensibly, and above all else, manage the ongoing risks accordingly. "You're fundamentally here to deliver a good outcome for people in terms of their investments. And you never lose sight of the fact that our whole business is set up to effectively manage risk to ensure that we can deliver on our commitments and obligations to our investors," said Lockhart.  That unwavering focus, coupled with an ‘always on' work ethic, has seen Lockhart and his team grow Metrics to $30 billion of assets under management, with no signs of slowing down. Holy Kryptonian catastrophe, comic crusaders! This week on Play Comics, we're diving headfirst into the digital dumpster fire that is Superman: Countdown to Apokolips for the Game Boy Advance – because apparently someone thought the best way to honor Superman: The Animated Series was to trap the Man of Steel in a tiny screen prison with graphics that make MS Paint look like the Sistine Chapel. Released in 2003 by the brave souls at Mistic Software (after poor Crawfish Interactive literally died during development – talk about your occupational hazards!), this isometric adventure promised to let players soar through Metropolis while battling Livewire, Metallo, and the fashion disaster known as Kalibak. What it actually delivered was a gaming experience so punishing that even Darkseid would file a complaint with customer service. Joining us for this digital descent into madness is Adam Maresh from my local shop back when he lived by me – a man who's seen more comic-to-game adaptations crash and burn than a rejected Justice League movie pitch. Together, we'll explore how this GBA “gem” managed to score a whopping 45% on GameRankings and somehow convinced IGN to give it a 4.5/10 (which in retrospect feels generous).
