Whilst Aussie small caps have been on fire and are outperforming their large-cap peers year to date, it's not the same story everywhere. In the US, for example, small and mid-caps (SMIDs) are still lagging – such is the dominance of the Magnificent 7. But when everything else is rallying, it can pay to fish where others aren't. And here's the kicker: unlike Australia, where there's a tiny pool of SMIDs – roughly 250 names that meet the $300 million to $10 billion market-cap cut-off – there are around 8,000 globally. That's a lot of fish. But with more choice comes the need to know where to look and how to separate the bluefin from the carp – because not every SMID is worth catching. With that in mind, Livewire's Chris Conway is joined by Michael Poulsen from Canopy Investors and Nick Markiewicz from Ellerston Capital to unpack the factors they look for when hunting global SMIDs, run the ruler over a handful of names, and each share one stock they think has a bright future ahead. Small caps have long been the hunting ground for investors seeking outsized growth, but they also demand a sharper eye and stronger conviction. Whilst smalls have woken from a long slumber in 2025, beneath the headline names a new generation of companies is quietly building momentum - firms with unique market positions, improving fundamentals, or catalysts that could soon propel them into the spotlight. In this episode of Buy Hold Sell, Livewire's Chris Conway is joined by James Nguyen from Tyndall Asset Management and Shaun Weick from Wilson Asset Management. Together, they shine a light on five small-cap hidden gems; businesses that aren't household names yet, but might be tomorrow. They unpack what makes each one special, the triggers that could unlock their value, and the key risks investors should keep in mind. Whether you're hunting for the next breakout stock or simply looking to understand what drives performance in this dynamic part of the market, this episode is full of actionable insights from two seasoned small-cap specialists. Please note that this episode was filmed 5 November 2025
If you've been following the story of small caps for a while, you would know that as early as 2024, some investors were talking about a recovery in small caps given the performance gap relative to their larger peers. For a good period of time, that promise went unfulfilled. But good things come to those who wait, and in 2025, small caps have staged a genuine comeback - so much so that they're now outpacing their large-cap peers year to date. The question now is: can it last? And just as importantly, what could derail the momentum? Livewire's Chris Conway put those questions and more to James Nguyen from Tyndall Asset Management and Shaun Weick from Wilson Asset Management. In this episode, James and Shaun also share which sectors and themes still look compelling in small-cap land, a couple of stocks they're most excited about, and a couple more that are keeping them up at night. Please note that this episode was filmed 5 November 2025
In addition to the current tariff on imports, how about a 50% tariff on the Aluminum and Steel in your next motorcycle?: The Department of Commerce is weighing an expansion of Section 232 tariffs that could add hundreds of new product categories – including motorcycles, electric motorcycles, parts, and some OHVs – to the existing 50% duties on steel and aluminum derivatives. The Motorcycle Industry Council, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, and Specialty Vehicle Institute of America submitted formal comments opposing the requests for inclusion, citing potential harm to manufacturers, dealers, and riders. After steering Harley-Davidson through a turbulent five-year transformation, CEO Jochen Zeitz has stepped aside, making way for newcomer Artie Starrs. While Harley calls Zeitz's departure a planned retirement, many point to mounting pressure from activist investors like H Partners and a disappointing second quarter as catalysts for change. Zeitz will remain on as senior advisor through early 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by his Hardwire strategy—streamlining operations, spinning off LiveWire, and focusing the brand on profitability over volume. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Starrs, known for his leadership at Topgolf and Pizza Hut, represents a cultural shift for the 121-year-old motorcycle brand. Though new to the motorcycle industry, he's already taken steps to win over skeptics—purchasing a Heritage Classic and enrolling in a rider course. His focus appears to be revitalizing Harley's retail and dealer experience, improving financial flexibility through strategic moves like the HDFS loan sale to KKR and PIMCO, and reintroducing more accessible models to attract younger riders. The board is betting that his franchise and consumer-brand expertise will translate into new growth. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! As Harley grapples with aging demographics, global competition, and shifting rider preferences, Starrs' challenge will be balancing the premium heritage Zeitz reinforced with a new era of inclusivity and affordability. The death of Superman. Lobo joins the Justice League. Plus, an unlikely team-up in the future. What a great set of episodes! A team of Rogues, who all hate Superman team up to take him out. Toy Man, Livewire, Weather Wizard, Kalibak, and Metallo work together to attract Superman to the Daily Planet. But the whole League shows up. It is not going well for them until Toy Man uses his robot and power ray to threaten Batman & Wonder Woman. Superman takes the hit and is seemingly vaporized! The League, the planet and the galaxy mourn the death of Superman. But Batman does not believe he is dead. With Superman gone, all the villains come out to take over. Lobo shows up and wants to take Superman's place. The League reluctantly takes him with them as they go after the villains. But Superman is not dead! He has been transported thousands of years in the future. The planet is a wasteland, and the sun is red. He has no powers, so he must use his brain and normal human strength and skills to survive. Following a connection on his coms, he makes his way to the Justice League signal source which turns out to be the crashed remains of the Watchtower. Vandal Savage is the only human being alive still. Walking the ravaged Earth on his own for thousands of years. His weapon of gravity caused mass destruction and changed the physics of the solar system, wiping out humankind! And this all happened days after Superman's death! For penance, he decided to stay behind, alone on Earth, even though he was able to build a space craft to take him out into the galaxy. When he sees that Superman is somehow here, after following the coms signal he picked up, he goes to meet the man he once tried to kill. Superman discovers that Savage also built a time machine, and thinks he's found his way home, but unfortunately it needs more power than they have to make it work. Together they must go and steal a known power source that would suffice from a colony of mutated cockroaches. This energy just happens to be a powerful source of radiation, like a miniature sun, that gives Superman back is abilities, allowing them to succeed. Vandal fills Superman in on exactly what he did to destroy the world and what he must do to stop him, so once the time machine is up and running, Superman returns and saves Batman from a fatal shot fired from above. They rejoice in his return, but his work isn't done. He must find the Savage of this time and stop him at all costs. We then see the future one more time, as the world is rebuilt in it's new timeline, and Savage slowly fades away... #1 New York Times bestselling author Ben Shapiro examines the current state of America and Western civilization, and poses a question: will we be Lions, or will we be Scavengers? In a world split between noble Lions and destructive Scavengers, only the brave can lead the way. Acclaimed writer and conservative thought leader Ben Shapiro knows that at the heart of today's conflicts-political, economic, and cultural-there's a dangerous lie: that all people are equal in ability, and that all inequality stems from oppression and exploitation. With his signature clarity and sharp insight, Shapiro refutes that lie, emphasizing that in a free country, inequality is rooted in differences of talent and work ethic-not oppression-and that the best solution to lack of success lies in duty and virtue. Lions, like America's founding fathers, strive for the highest good, building systems that promote freedom, prosperity, and equality of opportunity. Meanwhile, Scavengers degrade these ideals, spreading resentment and entitlement that threaten to dismantle the foundations of Western civilization. In Lions and Scavengers, Shapiro invites you to take up the mantle of the Lion and defend the principles that shape the freedom of a fair, powerful society. With the stakes higher than ever, this book is a gripping exploration of the ongoing war between those who cherish our nation and those who seek to undermine it. The triumph of the Lions is essential for America's continued success. It's a rallying cry for those who refuse to bow to the Scavengers' demands. It's time to fight back.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
