This episode features a live audience conversation at The Vine Club in Atlanta with Thibaut Marquis, the North America Export Manager for Maison Louis Jadot. Thibaut is originally from the Loire Valley in France, but he has lived in several countries, including South Africa, Argentina, and Canada, before living in the United States for the past 15 years. He has been working in various Sales Management positions for US wine importers (Terlato Wines' Burgundy division, Wilson Daniels), and international wineries (Familia Torres, Les Dauphins, Jaillance, David Family). He joined Maison Louis Jadot in 2022 and is now based out of New York City. Passionate about the wine industry as a whole, Thibaut has also completed his WSET Diploma, so he brings a wealth of experience but also knowledge to this role that essentially serves as a bridge between the winery in Burgundy and their importers. We enjoyed some incredibly special wines from their vast portfolio during this recording session, and it was a study and showcase of how these wines are so connected to the vineyards. We opened the mic at the end of the show to our guests from the Atlanta wine community, and we explored so many topics that impact all levels of the wine industry. Recorded LIVE at Vine Club on November 19, 2024 sponosored by Kobrand and Tower Beer, Wine & Spirits. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/acorkintheroad/support
Founded in 2013 by winemaker Jacques Lardière of Maison Louis Jadot, Résonance crafts expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from its estate Résonance Vineyard and other premier sites throughout the Willamette Valley that embody the elegance and complexity Oregon wines are known for. The seeds for the project were planted when Maison Louis Jadot set out to establish its first winery outside of Burgundy. Last summer, the winery opened its second tasting room at their Découverte Vineyard which offers an intimate indoor tasting environment and elegant outdoor patio area where visitors can immerse themselves in the rolling vineyards vistas of the Dundee Hills. Their Grand Tasting Room in Carlton, Oregon, features panoramic views of the 150-mile valley framed by mountains and woven together by the Willamette River.
The study of wine will take you all over the world. It is fascinating and intoxicating (pun intended). It is said that all roads of wine curiosity lead to Burgundy. The history, the lifestyle, the wines, and the people. Meet one of the most influential people who help shape not only today's landscape of Burgundy but the landscape of Burgundy's future. Frédéric truly believes there is a steward of the land for the next generations, which takes extreme humility. This is the word I would use to describe best the outlook and contribution to the world of wine that Frédéric brings. Listen to see if you agree.

The famed Burgundy house, Maison Louis Jadot became enamoured with the idea to start operations in Oregon (considered prince Pinot Noir and Chardonnay land). Since 1988, McMinnville college has been playing host to the International Pinot Noir Festival (we attended in 1989). In those days, there were only a handful of wineries and driving the wine trail in the Williamette Valley, you would find sporadic at best, vineyards to visit. Now, the industry is flourishing and the Resonance Vineyard is part of that success. It takes a certain passionate person to up root a family to come to the US to make wine. You must be all-in and ready to make a difference to the wine world. Guillaume Large is one of these types. Hear him here.

The wine trade in Oregon was creeping along until the late '80's when they started their International Pinot Noir Festival. They invited the great French burgundy makers to participate and the French loved the terroir and camaraderie. Maison Louis Jadot and many other Burgundian houses invested in creating great Pinot Noir in the Williamette Valley, Oregon. Guillaume has been a guest on the show prior and brings new insight into the happenings in the Williamette Valley and Louis Jadot. Salut.
Each time I sit with Frédéric Barnier, it is like going to Burgundy school. Due to Covid, the 2019 barrel tasting of the wines of Maison Louis Jadot was canceled, so I reached out to head winemaker, M. Barnier to catch up on the happenings. From Covid to climate change, we covered it all.
If you found a menu from a restaurant in the Burgundy part of France from let's say 1965, you would find that fine Beaujolais wines rivaled in price their competitors of Burgundy. With the advent of Beaujolais Nouveau, the perception of Beaujolais began to change. Meet Cyril Chirouze, winemaker at Chateau Des Jacques of Maison Louis Jadot, His commentary and insight into this historical region will compel you to do a bit of research.
This interview is with Guillaume Large of Résonance Wines. In this interview, Guillaume describes growing up in France, and his journey working for several wineries in Burgundy, including Maison Louis Jadot. He explains eventually making his way to the WIllamette Valley to continue the Maison Louis Jadot legacy in Oregon. He describes starting the brand Résonance in the Willamette Valley, and what all went into the process. Guillaume expresses how his technical and practical experience combine in his winemaking. Towards the end of the interview, he touches on climate change, and describes the freedom that winemaking in Oregon allows. To conclude, Guillaume looks ahead to the future of Résonance for the possibility to plant more vines, to continue their relationship with Maison Louis Jadot, and to increase the size of the winery and tasting room, yet no matter what keeping the focus on high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This interview was conducted by Rich Schmidt at Résonance Wines on August 20, 2020.

When it comes to Burgundy the name of the producer on the bottle might just be the most important piece of information. Some producers make a scant barrel or two per vintage fro a single vineyard. Others, like Maison Louis Jadot make wines from across Burgundy, ranging from Chablis to the Mâconnais. The challenge is to maintain the terroir from each bottling. Frederic Barnier, winemaker at Maison Louis Jadot, tells me how he embraces this challenge and others while we sample wines from the upcoming release of the 2015 vintage.
