In the heart of New Jersey's music scene, emerged a beacon of fresh energy and spiritual fervour, embodied by the faith-driven alt/rock trio, The Finite Beings. At the core of this dynamic musical force stands Michael Nicholas, a versatile artist who wears the hats of lead singer and drummer with equal fervency. With the release of their highly anticipated full-length album, 'A Life to Come Renewed', The Finite Beings demonstrated a unique fusion of classic musical elements with their own conscious, soul-stirring style. This innovative blend created something truly exceptional, a sound that resonated deeply with today's discerning listeners. However, as the world grappled with the sudden onset of a pandemic, live shows were silenced, pushing musicians to seek solace and inspiration from within. It was during this introspective period that Michael Nicholas unearthed a profound belief—that adversity can be overcome, and brighter days can be envisioned, as long as one remains anchored in faith and resists succumbing to fear. This revelation gave birth to the band's poignant single, 'The Virus', a testament to the power of resilience in the face of adversity.Following this, 'The Shade' emerged as the band's signature moody single, a rock anthem that skillfully incorporated echoes of fearless 90s bands like Alice In Chains. It was a testament to The Finite Beings' ability to pay homage to their influences while forging a distinct path of their own.In 'Hope Is Sleeping In Grace's Arms', the band delivered a heartfelt song that implored listeners to find solace in the peace offered by a higher power. This track encapsulated their unwavering faith, serving as a beacon of hope in the midst of life's trials and tribulations.Currently, The Finite Beings stand is devoted to sharing their latest EP, 'A Shell Of What Could Be'. This collection shines a brilliant light on both the exceptional musicianship of the band and their unwavering faith, interwoven seamlessly into every song. Donny DePaola and Hunter Kino, the virtuosos behind the addictive guitar work, contribute to the band's edgy, authentic, and often deeply vulnerable approach to songwriting. Their compositions echo the essence of well-known alternative rock anthems, resonating deeply with listeners.'A Shell Of What Could Be' is now available for streaming on major platforms, inviting listeners to embark on The Finite Beings' captivating musical journey. Through Michael Nicholas' profound artistry and unwavering faith, The Finite Beings continue to inspire and uplift, proving that even in the face of adversity, there lies a wellspring of hope and strength waiting to be discovered. In this follow-up of Breezeblock #15, FA editors Michael Nicholas, Kevin Rogan, and Joshua McWhirter dive into the weird world of traditional architecture revivalism, or ‘trad arch' for short. Where the first part of this discussion focused on a critique of the intellectual undercurrents of the trad arch movement, here, the editors explore how the trad impulse folds back onto the real world, from historic preservation projects, to former president Donald Trump's infamous, and recently revoked, executive order mandating a ‘classical' style for government buildings in the United States.
A few weeks ago, Yale Architecture professor Keller Easterling penned an article titled ‘On Political Temperament', which became the subject of heated conversation about the role of architecture theory in discussions of politics. In response, Marianela D'Aprile wrote 'Not Everything is Architecture' for Common Edge. For Breezeblock #16, FA editor Michael Nicholas spoke to Marianela and fellow editor Kevin Rogan about Easterling's new book Medium Design, the role of architects as workers in the class struggle, and the politics of the architecture profession at large.
In this first installment of a two-part episode, FA editors Michael Nicholas, Kevin Rogan and Joshua McWhirter discuss the weird world of traditional architecture revivalism, or ‘trad architecture' for short. Starting with a critique of pop philosopher Alain de Botton's recent article ‘Why is the Modern World so Ugly?', the three editors examine the surface-level aesthetic fixations and flattened historical perceptions of the trad architecture movement — so often a cipher for the exaltation of ‘Western' culture, even as it makes claims to an apolitical stance.

How to do you make your decisions? The decisions we make every day – frequently automatic and incredibly fast – impact every area of our lives. My guest on the show today is an expert when it comes to making decisions in an increasing complex world. Michael Nicholas is author of The Little Black Book of Decision Making. Here's my conversation with Michael Nicholas, author of The Little Black Book of Decision Making, in episode 257 of Informed Choice Radio.
