Typischer Star-Trek-Montag eben. Kommt mit uns in die zweite Runde des dramatischen Zweiteilers „Into the Breach“ – inklusive nerdiger Erklärungen zu Gravitationsbrunnen und temporalen Schutzschilden, wilden Spekulationen über Chakotays großen Masterplan und natürlich der wichtigsten Frage überhaupt: Was haben Lewis, Clark und Sacagawea mit Star Trek zu tun? #StarTrekProdigy #IntoTheBreach #Chakotay #VoyagerA #DiscoveryPanel #StarTrekPodcast
Anika and Liz assemble a board of inquiry and examine two episodes which turned out to be significant for Star Trek: Lower Decks - "The First Duty" and "Lower Decks". Are we gonna cry? Oh yes. "The First Duty": Imagine if Beverly Crusher got to parent her son "Anika needs to talk about Jack Crusher" is an item in our outline We get into the really serious issue: who is dating whom in Nova Squadron? Liz's knowledge of American high school life, as gleaned from YA fiction and Archie comics Star Trek is a place where it's okay to fail "Lower Decks": Picard's relationship with Sito The Enterprise only takes the best. So why are the bridge crew SO bad at managing staff? Except Worf, an unexpected contender for Best Boss Ever And Deanna Troi, Holder of the Brain Cell We can infer a lot about Sito's personal growth between "The First Duty" and now, and her reconnection with Bajoran culture Our semi-regular one-sided correspondence with Mike McMahon continues Critiquing Worf's contouring
Wesley Crusher returns! He's even more of a man, and is involved in a terrible scandal with Tom Paris, er, Nick Locarno and the rest of Nova Squadron while at Starfleet Academy. Picard reconnects with the gardener Boothby, who is a crotchety old man with a heart of gold or something like that. Nova Squardron was trying to make a galactic goatse when one of their number blows up his shuttle. Too bad goatses have been banned. Wesley comes clean, which makes us all very happy. We're getting more visitors from the past on TNG again! First up, Wesley Crusher and the rest of the Academy's elite Nova Squadron are in the hot seat after a classmate is killed during maneuvers in "The First Duty". Next, Lwaxana Troi is rushing into a bad marriage even as alien microbes rush to digest and excrete the "Enterprise" in "Cost of Living". Also this week: editorial control, Vulcan acting, and "Harold and Maude". Timestamps: synopses: 3:54; The First Duty: 12:22; Cost of Living: 47:13
A very heavy discussion at times, we are at odds on a few points raised by this episode or Star Trek the Next Generation in which we find young Wesley Crusher facing expulsion from Starfleet Academy because of a bad decision he and his fellow Nova Squadron crew members make leading to the death of one of their members. Wesley comes around in the end as we expect him to but the journey there is compelling and filled with drama. I'm joined today by the Doctor and Sean from Trek on the Tube http://www.youtube.com/trekonthetube Join in the discussion and let us know what you thought of this episode as well.
It's a well-established fact Starfleet's track record for promoting great officers is pretty darn unassailable, but can the same be said about its Academy's top cadet picks? This week brash, fresh-faced youngster hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton, along with hotshot guest Andy Chan, enlist in the organization's prestigious, yet often dubiously organized, training school in order to figure out why so many of its students go bizarrely astray. From the smarmy cover-up tactics of Nova Squadron leader Nicholas Locarno, to DS9's highly unorthodox elite Red Squad unit and Star Trek 2009's smug take on the Kobayashi Maru, no helpful reference material is left unanalyzed in this daunting research assignment. Lastly, to conclude their report, the trio debate whether the concept of Starfleet Academy could ever possibly sustain a future movie or series. Right-click to download.Read more »

Wesley Crusher is a pilot on an elite team of flyers. Yeah. We are not sure when that happened either. Tragedy has hit the team though. A crash has led to the death of a member of Nova Squadron. They say it was an accident, and it probably was. Still, the members of the team know more than they are telling. It is up to Captain Picard and Groundskeeper Boothby to bring the truth to light. Or to get Wesley to do it. Find out what happened when we put The First Duty in the Mission Log.
