The 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show was quite a special one for Quesada Cigars. The company is amid a significant milestone as it is celebrating 50 years since it opened its first factory, Manufactura de Tabacos S.A. (MATSA). Unsurprisingly, there is a special anniversary cigar to mark this milestone. The Quesadas first unveiled the 50th Anniversary Cigar at Procigar 2024, but PCA 2024 would be the place retailers would get the opportunity to order this limited edition cigar. Coming in at #6 is the Quesada 1974 Toro. The Quesada 1974 is a cigar line that pays homage to the year Quesada Cigars opened its own factory. It's a cigar line that made its debut in 2019, which incidentally coincided with the 45th anniversary of the factory opening. In 2021, Quesada Cigars did a line extension in the form of a classic 6 x 52 Toro. But it was the Robusto that would land on the 2021 Countdown. This year the Toro lands a top ten slot at #6. The blend to the Quesada 1974 features a Cameroon seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. There are Dominican tobaccos on the binder and filler, along with some additional Nicaraguan tobacco used in the filler. The Dominican tobaccos were grown directly by the Quesada family. Production comes from TABADEX, the Quesada factory. This is a regular production line for the Quesada's and the Toro size was the fifth one introduced into the 1974 line. The Quesada 1974 Toro delivered a medium strength, medium-bodied smoke from start to finish - making this a very approachable cigar. The Quesada 1974 line has a very unique flavor profile, and the Toro size is no exception. Along the way, this cigar delivered notes of bread, apricot, orange rind, wood, baker's spice, and black pepper. The Toro is the belle of the ball of the Quesada 1974 line. While the Toro size might be one for the contemporary smoker, this cigar smokes every bit like a connoisseur size. The Quesada Toro 1974 is the third cigar from Quesada to land on the 2022 Cigar of the Year Countdown joining the Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary Bavarian and the Casa Magna Liga F Churchill. It's also the fourth cigar from the Quesada factory to land on the 2022 Countdown. As we have mentioned this is the eighth year a Quesada Cigar places on the Countdown and with three cigars this year, it's one of Quesada's strongest years. It gives the Dominican Republic a sixth cigar on the Countdown with three of them landing in the top ten thus far. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-oqs

Coming in at #8 is the Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary Bavarian. Back in 2011, Quesada Cigars introduced its Oktoberfest line. The intent of this line was for Quesada to deliver a cigar blend that could be paired with your favorite malt beverage. This is a near-annual limited-edition line that has been released in an assortment of different sizes, an assortment of different blends, and even made in different countries (Dominican Republic and Nicaragua). With the exception of two years (2018 and 2020), Quesada Cigars has done an annual release each year since 2011. With 2021 being the 10th anniversary, Quesada Cigars would introduce an all-new blend in three sizes – appropriately called the Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary. It's the Bavarian size that lands on the 2022 Countdown. The Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary is highlighted by a Mexican San Andres wrapper – a new feature for the Oktoberfest release. In addition to the Mexican San Andres wrapper, the remainder of the Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary contains all-Dominican tobaccos. Production is handled at the Quesada factory located in the Dominican Republic. The Bavarian is a Robusto Extra size that measures 5 1/2 x 52. The Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary Bavarian delivers a combination of baker's cocoa, coffee, cedar, and pepper. In terms of strength and body, this cigar came in at a solid medium. This might not have been the most complex cigar, but the flavors that were delivered were simply fantastic. For a decade, the Quesada Oktoberfest has delivered some incredible cigars. This 10th Anniversary Bavarian might be the best release of the series to date. The Quesada Oktoberfest 10th Anniversary Bavarian gives Quesada Cigars a second cigar on this year's countdown. It's also the third cigar from the Quesada factory to land on the Countdown. As we mentioned, 2022 is the eighth year a Quesada Cigar has placed on the Countdown. It also is the fifth cigar from the Dominican Republic to land on the Countdown. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-opD

Coming in at #12 is the Casa Magna Liga F Churchill by Quesada Cigars. Back in 2008, Manuel Quesada teamed up with Nestor Plasencia to release a cigar to be sold under the Quesada Cigars portfolio known as the Casa Magna Colorado. The cigar was met with critical acclaim and commercial success and is widely considered to be one of the most successful collaborations in history. Over the years, Quesada Cigars has grown Casa Magna into a full-fledged brand. Most recently Quesada has been taking over production of the offerings under the brand. One of the more recent offerings that was added to Casa Magna brand was the Liga F in 2021. Liga F stands for Liga Fuerte and fuerte is Spanish for “strong.” The Casa Magna Liga F is meant to be a stronger and bolder expression for the brand. The blend for the Casa Magna Liga F features a sun-grown Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper. There are Dominican tobaccos used for binder and filler. In addition, some Nicaraguan tobaccos are incorporated into the filler. The Churchill size that lands on the countdown is a thicker expression of a Churchill measuring 7 x 50. The Casa Magna Liga F does its job in terms of being bolder. While the cigar started out with medium strength and medium to full body, by the time the smoking experience reaches the final third, it's delivering full strength and full body. This is a complex cigar with plenty of flavor nuances and flavor transitions. Notes include: sweet bread, natural tobacco, creamy almond, earth, cedar, baker's spice, classic wood, and pepper. The cigar totally fires on all cylinders – flavor, construction, and complexity. For Quesada Cigars, this is the eighth year the company has placed a cigar on a Cigar Coop Countdown, including three years in a row. This is the third Dominican-made cigar to land on this year's Countdown and it gives the TABADEX factory a second cigar on the Countdown. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-onL

From the 2021 PCA Trade Show, we talk to Raquel Quesada of Quesada Cigars. The last half of 2021 is promising to be an exciting one for the Quesada family. The company had several offerings to showcase at this year's trade show. This included a new core offering under the Casa Magna brand, a line extension to the Quesada 1974 line, and the return of the annual Quesada Oktoberfest. While things had been quieter from Quesada over the past year, these new offerings engaged just about everyone who visited the booth. References PCA 2021 Report: Quesada Cigars

My Father Cigars bought the Fonseca brand from Quesada Cigars in 2019, which had been making the iconic brand in the Dominican Republic since 1974. Quesada had been using a mixture of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the United States for their Fonseca cigars, but the new Fonseca from My Father is using 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos grown from the Garcia farms. The highlight of this new blend is the Rosado Corojo 99 wrapper grown by the Garcias. The Garcia family wanted to bring the Fonseca back to its Cuban roots. The Fonseca by My Father is being made in 5 sizes, which I'm reviewing the belicoso size.

In this educational episode I set down with Terence Reilly VP of Sales and Marketing of Aganorsa Leaf to talk all things cigars.Terence grew up in Massachusetts and studied Classical History with the idea of eventually becoming a college professor. But after his master's degree he decided not to pursue the PH.D needed for college instructor. He worked as a Sales Rep for Carnival Cruise Lines for a time before getting into the cigar business. Terence Reilly is about as gringo a name as there is, but his grandmother on his father's side was Spanish and her maiden name was Quesada. Her family had interests in the tobacco business in Cuba as far back as the 1800's. When Castro came to power in Cuba they fled and restarted the business in Dominican Republic where Terence worked in the factory in Santiago, D.R for a while to learn the business. He relocated to Miami in 2009 and worked for Quesada Cigars for almost a decade. In 2017, he left the company and went to work for a Nicaraguan based company called Aganorsa. You can find Terence and Aganorsa cigars on IG & FB: Aganorsa Leaf Youtube: Aganorsa Experience and on www.aganorsaleaf.com Let's connect!
