"This is eternal life, that they know you the one true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." These words of Jesus reveal the importance of coming to know God more and more. We grow in this knowledge in various ways: study and spiritual reading, personal dealings with Him in our prayer life, living in HIs presence. To know Jesus fully, however, we also have to enter into his own experience of loving and trusting God in and through the trials of our life.
As soon as I jumped into the pool, my goggles filled with water, and I could barely see. Despite having no formal swimming instruction, I slowly persevered for the two laps of a race I had entered on a whim. As a teenager, it was an embarrassing experience. But years later, after taking lessons and learning the proper breathing and swimming techniques, I enjoyed learning all four strokes. What a difference it makes when we have the proper training. The same is true with our knowledge of the Bible. When we understand the context and meaning of what we’re reading in Scripture, we can grow in our faith and properly apply it to our lives. The apostle Paul wanted Timothy to stand firm in his faith, avoid quarrels, and not be deceived by false teachers. In his final letter, Paul urged Timothy to study the Scriptures. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). I realized that the more I learned and practiced proper swimming techniques, the better swimmer I became. In our spiritual walk, as we learn and understand the words and concepts in the Bible, we grow in our knowledge of God—enabling us to distinguish truth from falsehood. As we read the Bible, let’s continue to grow “so that [we] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (3:17).

Better late than never! Fall asleep meditating on a passage from Proverbs about actively seeking God's wisdom, and thereby coming to know him. NEW: Check out our work-in-progress website at truesleeppodcast.com. Not really much to see yet, but I'm hoping to add some helpful stuff in the future. You can contact me at truesleepfeedback@gmail.com. You can support this ministry at https://buymeacoffee.com/truesleep. Also, I'm experimenting with video... It's not great, but if you want to check it out my first attempt, you can find it at youtube.com/@TrueSleep-k8j. If it seems worthwhile, I'll work on improving it. If not, I'll abandon it altogether. I realize video seems counterintuitive for a sleep meditation podcast, but I wonder if it will help me reach more people. We'll see!
You and I aren't neutral towards God …We are either worshipping Him or rebelling against Him. That's the honest truth that Paul preaches to those in Athens in Acts 17:16–34. Athens, as we know, was as the intellectual capital of the world… thinkers, philosophers, culture-shapers everywhere. And when Paul arrived into this city, he:1) studies the culture.2) understands the people.3) And then drops truth right in the middle of it.Preaching:
Are you truly growing in the knowledge of God, or do you only know about Him? In this Words From The Word daily devotion, Pastor Roderick Webster opens Colossians 1:9-12 (KJV) and walks us through the Apostle Paul's powerful prayer for the believers at Colosse — a prayer that asked for no material things, only that they would know God more deeply, walk worthy of Him, and bear fruit in every good work. You might be asking — what does it mean to walk worthy of the Lord? Why does Paul pray for patience and long suffering with joyfulness? Is there a difference between knowing about God and actually knowing God? How do I grow in the knowledge of God daily?Key points from this devotion:- Paul prayed that believers would be filled with wisdom and spiritual understanding- Walking worthy means our conduct and lifestyle should be pleasing to God- Being fruitful in every good work is part of God's desire for every believer- Increasing in the knowledge of God requires reading, studying, and accepting His Word- Knowing God personally is salvation — knowing Him fully is the journey of a lifetimeIf this devotion encouraged you today, please like, comment, and share it with someone who needs a word. Romans 1:21-32

Pastor teaches his family a selection from "the Proverb of the day." In these two verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us to walk straight in the knowledge of God. Living in the knowledge of God is the foundation of true understanding and righteous living, as the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When we forget God, our path becomes twisted. Without continual remembrance of Him, the heart loses the joy, strength, and direction that come from walking in dependence, delight, and devotion to Him.
What will Israel do in the face of adversity? God had warned Moses that He would harden Pharaoh's heart, and there would be a confrontation between God and Pharaoh. The clash of rivals plays out in chapter five as Pharaoh shows his unwillingness to surrender his authority to the “God of the Hebrews.” The great question in this chapter is what the people of God will do when facing hardship after initially believing God's promise to deliver them from their burdens. Whom will they serve?

A spiritual and saving knowledge of God is the greatest need of every human creature. The foundation of all true knowledge of God must be a clear understanding of His attributes as revealed in Holy Scripture. An unknown God cannot be truly trusted, served, nor worshipped. In this book, an effort has been made to describe some of the principal perfections of His divine character. And if we are to truly profit from our perusal of the pages herein, we need to earnestly ask God to bless them to us, to apply His Truth to our conscience and heart, so that, by it, our lives will be transformed. We need something more than a theoretical knowledge of God. God is only truly known in the soul inasmuch as we yield ourselves to Him, submit to His authority, and regulate all the details of our lives by His holy precepts and commandments. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord (Hosea 6:3). If any man will do His will, he shall know (John 7:17). The people that do know their God shall be strong (Daniel 11:32). About the Author Arthur Walkington Pink (1886-1952) was an influential British Christian evangelist and biblical scholar known for his profound writings and teachings on Reformed theology. Born in Nottingham, England, Pink converted to Christianity in his early twenties, and lived a life devoted to the Lord. His passion for Scripture led him to pastorates in the United States and Australia, though he is best remembered for his prolific writing. Pink's works, including The Sovereignty of God and numerous articles in his monthly magazine, Studies in the Scriptures, have had a lasting impact in the body of Christ.

Fr. Mike emphasizes the importance of knowing God and knowing his love for us as we read about the devastation of war and the lack of faith displayed by Israel. Without a deeper knowledge of God, not only can we struggle for hope in God's plan, but we can also fall into the temptation of losing faith in him altogether. Today's readings are 2 Kings 6-7, Hosea 4-7, and Psalm 103. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
