In this Everyday Judaism episode (continuing Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, Siman 40), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe completes the laws of netilat yadayim (ritual hand-washing before bread/meals). Key halachot include:Invalid waters: Salty, putrid, bitter, or muddy water is disqualified if unfit even for a dog to drink.Clean hands requirement: Hands must be free of interpositions (chatzitzah)—remove rings, clean under long nails, scrape off substantial dirt/paint; incidental coloring (e.g., ink stains) is not a chatzitzah, but substantial matter (paint, grease) is.For certain occupations (painters, dyers, butchers, scribes): Minor staining from their work is not a chatzitzah unless it covers most of the hand.Dressings/wounds: Band-aids or painful-to-remove coverings are not chatzitzah (same rule applies to mikvah immersion).Dipping foods: Wash hands (no blessing) before eating anything commonly dipped in liquid or still moist from liquid; seven liquids qualify (wine, honey, olive oil, milk/whey, blood [medicinal only], water); fruit juices or liquors generally do not.Preserves & butters: Hardened sugar/honey coatings are not liquid (no washing needed); soft/moist ones are.Hand foods vs. utensil foods: Dip hand-eaten foods require washing; spoon/fork foods do not if no hand contact.Practical notes: Soap is not required; focus on water coverage and one continuous flow. The rabbi stresses spiritual depth: washing humbles us before bread (countering "my power made this wealth") and prepares us for holiness. God will use all kinds of ways to get our attention, and today as we study Exodus 8, we'll see that God get's Pharaoh's attention through an total abundance of things they do not want, in order to show everyone, Jew and Egyptian, that there is no God but the Lord. There's a lot here, and it would be a privilege to have you listen in. Join us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. What did the podcast suggest were the reasons why God brought these miracles upon Egypt? What was their role for the Egyptians? What was their role for the Jews? 2. How does Ezekiel 20:5-8 shed light on the spiritual condition of the Jews at this time? 3. Likewise, how does Deuteronomy 4:37 help us understand why God still chooses to deliver these people? How does this help us understand God's mercy and His love for His people even when they sin and rebel against Him? 4. In these passages, how did the so-called "gods" of the Egyptians respond? Why didn't they respond more dramatically? 5. The podcast mentioned that the Egyptians didn't worship frogs and snakes and all that stuff because they loved those things, but because they thought those animals represented the gods who provided wealth and prosperity. These days, we don't look to frogs and snakes for prosperity. Instead, where do people look for these things, instead of the Lord? 6. The podcast mentioned that the goddess Heqet was the goddess of fertility and was represented by frogs. What did the piles of dead frogs show the Egyptians about the Lord's power over life and fertility? 7. Verse 16 Aaron struck the ground and gnats came up. This took on an Egyptian god named "Geb". Were the Egyptian magicians able to create a similar miracle? In verse 19, what did they say about this miracle that God performed through Aaron? 8. The podcast mentioned that the plague of the flies took on the god of creation and rebirth and rising sun named Khepri, who was represented by the face of a bug. What did God's control of the flies show the people about their belief that Khepri controlled the daily cycle of life? 9. In all of this, what was the condition of Pharaoh's heart in verse 32? How do people response similar today, despite seeing God's handiwork all around them? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Wesley Wright Lighthouse Bible Church Sunday, January 11, 2026 A hardened mind 2Co 3:1-16 Remember, Paul referred to his readers as a letter of sorts (2 Corinthians 3:1) - their lives served as a testimony of the work the Lord was doing via him and the apostles. The Spirit of the living God wrote that "letter," which is better than one written with mere ink (2 Corinthians 3:3). God made the apostles ministers of a new covenant not of the letter but instead of the Spirit. That ministry of death (2Co 3:7) was the Ten Commandments and Old Testament laws/statutes more generally. When you ran afoul of them, you deserved death as a result. Send us a textArnie, Fred and Glenn continue to discuss what Peter said about how important God's word is, noting that within it is contained all things that pertain to life and godliness. We look at Second Peter chapter two verses 2 through 11, noting how many times knowledge is mentioned, and the actions Peter says that if a Christian does, he will never fall. Paul told Timothy that the scriptures are profitable for doctrine and a number of other things that the man of God may be complete. Consequently, we talk about the need for new Christians to study their Bibles and grow in knowledge so they will not stumble and fall, which many denominations teach it is impossible for a Christian to do. We discuss what Paul said to the Christians in Corinth about being vigilant so that they wouldn't fall. We note that Paul used an illustration of one running in a race and the preparation needed and the requirement to follow the rules in order to win the crown. We discuss the race and the crown the Christian seeks and how this relates to Paul's illustration. We find that the Hebrew writer uses the Israelites in the wilderness as examples of those who failed to trust and obey God and the consequences of that. The Hebrew writer then shows that some Christians do the same thing not trusting and obeying God and depart from Him. We talk about how important it is for members of the local church to help one another, encourage one another to live faithfully and how this is lacking in some churches. The Hebrew writer has some very specific words about Christians who fall away and what this means. Later on, the Hebrew writer discusses willful sin and the fact that this leads to one falling away. We have a good discussion about this. Paul writes to the Galatian Christians about them considering returning to the law of Moses and the problem with them doing so. We discuss this and note that numerous denominations today continue some of the practices found in the law of Moses which has been done away. We begin looking at what Peter said about Christians becoming entangled again in the pollutions of the world that they had escaped. However, we ran out of time before finishing it. We will begin that discussion in the next episode. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.
Last week, we saw the Jews had a choice. But they chose to reject Jesus and they chose to disregard the gospel. The truth is that we all have to make this same choice. However, all the Jews have not rejected Him. Just like in the days of Elijah, there is a faithful remnant among God's people. And the truth is, even today, God's plan still includes the Jews.
This week at Venture, Pastor Brandon continues our Journey Through Ephesians series with a powerful message from Ephesians 4 — a chapter filled with practical instructions for how believers should live as part of God's family. Using the illustration of “family rules,” Pastor Brandon teaches that when we become followers of Jesus, we're adopted into God's household — and with that comes a new identity, a new way of living, and new expectations. We are no longer who we used to be. We represent Jesus. We represent our church. And the Gospel should transform the way we think, speak, work, and respond to others. From Paul's call to “live a life worthy of your calling” to practical warnings against lying, anger, bitterness, unwholesome talk, and idleness, this message challenges us to live differently — because we are different. If you want to grow in spiritual maturity and understand what it means to truly reflect Christ in your daily life, this message will encourage and challenge you. ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 – Online Campus welcome00:12 – Welcome from Pastor Brandon00:44 – Parenting stories and family expectations01:49 – “In our house, we do hard things”02:14 – We don't quit — teaching perseverance03:12 – Following through with commitments03:34 – Working hard and having jobs growing up04:10 – College expectations and values05:48 – “Our family goes to church”06:43 – You represent your family07:20 – Transition to Ephesians 408:08 – Live a life worthy of your calling08:57 – Old Testament vs. New Testament obedience09:24 – Expectations for believers, not seekers10:01 – “Don't live like the Gentiles do”10:31 – Who you were vs. who you are now11:23 – Hardened hearts and transformation12:08 – We represent Jesus in everything we do12:40 – “We are Venture”13:13 – Making Jesus famous14:01 – Grace should change how we live14:43 – Putting off your old self15:14 – The symbolism of baptism15:42 – New mind, new life, new identity16:25 – Faith should change your values and worldview17:12 – Chapters 1–3 vs. chapters 4–617:40 – “Take off your grave clothes”18:50 – Expectations for God's family19:26 – Five things we don't do in God's house20:11 – #1 We don't lie21:12 – Truth-telling vs. the enemy's lies22:14 – Speaking the truth in love23:21 – Accountability and honesty in the church24:11 – #2 We control our anger25:28 – How anger becomes sin26:57 – Don't let anger smolder27:27 – The danger of wrath and malice27:52 – #3 We don't steal — we work28:36 – The expectation that believers work29:53 – Psychological benefits of working31:06 – Pastor Brandon's upbringing and work ethic32:09 – First job stories32:16 – #4 Think before you speak32:54 – No unwholesome or corrupt talk33:21 – How Jesus changed our speech34:08 – Gossip, slander, corrupt communication34:40 – #5 We don't let bitterness control us35:19 – Bitterness grieves the Holy Spirit35:59 – The danger of harboring bitterness36:49 – The journey of transformation37:16 – We represent our Father37:40 – Summing it up: Be kind, compassionate, forgiving38:11 – Closing prayer39:12 – Service close and announcements
"And God hardened Pharaoh's heart." Is that fair? Doesn't thiscontravene the principle of free choice? How is Pharaoh culpable if God is hardening his heart?
I have that photograph of Christmas. That kid saw so many possibilities. I think he would've looked at me and said: wait, you're 38 years older than me and you're still doing the same stuff I'm doing? That sucks." This might be the most heartbreaking conversation we've ever recorded. Jay looks back at 11 moments when his heart hardened - and the younger version of himself that got left behind. What you'll discover: • The progression: soft → hard → soft → really hard (how hearts harden and soften over years) • "I had to shut myself down to what lying was doing to her" (the only way to keep lying) • When spiritual language disguises emotional death ("I'm at peace" but couldn't define peace) • The situations that should have broken him but didn't (grandfather's death, divorce, losing his career) • "He had sufficiently shut me up" (how addicts train themselves to stop reacting to pain) • Why his internal world became "really tiny" (addiction closes you down to just the screen) • Narcotics Anonymous Step 3: "We no longer have a conscience" (aggressively pursuing what we want) • The younger self question that gutted him (what would that hopeful kid think?) For partners: This explains why he seems emotionally flat, why your pain doesn't register, why spiritual words feel hollow. You're watching someone whose heart has hardened layer by layer. For addicts: Can you see it happening? The pattern of harden → soften → harden deeper? The moments you chose impulse over conscience? The kid you used to be is still in there. Plus: The difference between acceptance and resignation (one has peace, the other has anger and self-pity). CHAPTERS 00:00 Intro: Powerful clips (younger self, shut her up, no conscience) 01:23 Can you see your heart hardening over the years? 02:41 Did your heart harden spiritually, not just toward me? 03:22 What led you back to porn after 6 months sober in college? 04:51 Beyond anxiety - what other feelings drove you back? 05:09 When did your emotional responses become muted or automatic? 05:45 "I should be feeling something right now, but I don't" 07:43 Did you interpret numbness as maturity or strength? 08:11 How did you train yourself to stop reacting to my pain? 09:39 What situations should have broken you but didn't? 10:45 Did spiritual language disguise your emotional hardening? 12:32 Did your internal world feel smaller and flatter over time? 13:11 When God told you to stop, you consciously chose your own way 15:48 What would your younger self think of who you became? 17:26 Question for viewers: Have you watched someone grow cold? -- To Rebuild Trust - https://thecouplecure.com/contact-me/ To Recover from Betrayal Trauma - https://pornpainhealed.com/contact-me/ Guys to Schedule a Free Call with Jay - https://porniskillingme.com/schedule-a-free-intro-call/ To Say Thanks ("Tip Jar") - https://buy.stripe.com/8wM6pe74F9LsdkA8ww -- Who is This Channel For? Send us a textMamdani's Panopticon Burden: To Inherit the Hardened and Databased Political Epistemology of the Security State(s)?By Jeremy Rothe-Kushel Host/Producer, Understanding Israel Palestine: Beyond The WallsNew York City is a paradox disguised as a metropolis. Above, the glass-and-steel canyons of Midtown reflect the accumulated wealth of empire—the real estate dynasties, the hedge funds, the global insurers. But beneath the asphalt, pulsing through fiber-optic cables and radiating from the microwave dishes atop One Police Plaza, lies a second, silent city: a digital autocracy. The invisible city does not vote. It watches, and targets. It is a “Ring of Steel” that has metastasized from a temporary post-9/11 shield into a permanent, self-governing intelligence agency. On this broadcast of Understanding Israel Palestine: Beyond The Walls, we descend into the friction point where local governance meets global counter-insurgency. We are joined by Ali Winston, an award-winning investigative journalist whose forensic reporting - including for WIRED, The Guardian, ProPublica, and The Baffler, among many others - regularly exposes police corruption, right-wing extremism, and surveillance. Our point of departure is Winston's incendiary new reporting: “Zohran Mamdani Just Inherited the NYPD Surveillance State.” It documents a profound collision: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, whose platform was built on the promise of Palestinian rights and systemic reform, now holds the keys to a machine built to repress those very ideals. It is a machine currently operated by Commissioner Jessica Tisch—a scion of the very financial and real estate interests that fought Mamdani's rise...--Full article is here: https://open.substack.com/pub/beyondthewalls/p/mamdanis-panopticon-burden-----------Ali Winston is an independent investigative journalist and co-author of The Riders Come Out at Night. Welcome to this brand-new episode of Light ‘Em Up!We've had our cake and ate it too (and it was delicious) celebrating achieving our 100th episode! Now it is time to get back to work. Thank you to all of our previous guests, listeners and fans who contacted us, sharing warm, caring and nice thoughts about the show.We are truly here for you and because of you!On this fact-finding, incendiary and investigative episode of Light ‘Em Up, we'll interrogate the question:— Why does someone join a cult?Is it because of their:— desire for belonging,— search for purpose or— emotional vulnerability …Some of these, none of these or ALL of these and more?Is the MAGA movement a cult? What does MAGA mean to America? And we examine charismatic leadership.— What makes a person charismatic to where countless people revere, worship, follow them, perhaps ultimately giving their lives for what THEY believed in?We'll explore all of this through the intersection of violent extremism and the radicalization process with a little Greek history lesson sprinkled into the mix — as we continue our quest to use data to improve democracy!Cults, like gangs, fall in the realm of deviance, and both types of groups encourage members to become situationally dependent on the "group identity."Both gangs and cults recruit members based on the human need to be accepted and a part of a group that will affirm personal significance. The fact pattern shows it clearly: Militant, nationalistic, white supremacist-violent-extremism has increased in the United States.According to the American Psychological Association's Dictionary of Psychology, a cult is “a religious or quasi-religious group characterized by unusual or atypical beliefs, seclusion from the outside world, and an authoritarian structure. Cults tend to be highly cohesive, well organized, secretive, and hostile to nonmembers.”Hardened through years of social upheaval, conspiracy rhetoric, and loyalty tests, the voting bloc known as the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, has evolved into a subculture marked by deep emotional identification with Donald Trump, and his:— rejection of institutional legitimacy, and— a worldview shaped less by shared policy preferences than by a shared sense of grievance and defiance. At the heart of the MAGA movement lies a narrative of persecution and betrayal. For many Trump supporters, their embrace of the 34-times-convicted felon, despite his endless stream of observable falsehoods and incendiary rhetoric, is not rooted in traditional (Ronald) Reagan-like conservatism but in a belief that he alone articulates their alienation. They seem to need a Superhero. He is their “revenge”. He has said as much, as well. MAGA members feel violated and offended by everyone that isn't them. This sentiment is frequently reflected in the language of victimhood:Are MAGA members perpetually victims? In 2024, Trump was not merely a candidate, but a martyr under siege by “corrupt elites” … according to him and his “Klan” of followers and supporters. We're calling on you to employ your critical thinking skills throughout this entire episode as we examine in depth behavior that explains the step-by-step process in becoming a tyrant and behaviors that would normally repulse traditional voters, which is celebrated by MAGA supporters as authenticity.Tune in and follow our sponsors Newsly and Feedspot! We want to hear from you!
When He spoke to the issue of hardened religionists, Jesus had a very impactful message for multiple parties at the same time in Matthew 23. But what's really interesting is how highly applicable that is in the Christianity of today! Be prepared to be challenged as we take a penetrating look at the willful blindness of hardened religionists! // Download this episode's Application & Action questions and PDF transcript at whitestone.org.

Despite all the peacocking from Trump and Vance claiming they "obliterated" Iran's nuclear program by dropping a trio of bombs, it appears the damage only derailed the program for a couple months, according to intelligence reports. Never one to let facts get in the way of a good social media post, Trump bragged about being nominated for a Nobel Peace Price and then put up a music video with a parody of the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann" with the words "Bomb Iran" instead playing over a video of B-2 stealth bombers dropping bombs. Even from Trump, it's a shocking display that could inflame tensions with Iran. Could it be meant to divert attention away from something else? We welcome Presidential Historian and political analyst John Rothmann to discuss this and more. We are excited to bring Sue Halpern to the show for the first time. She writes for the New Yorker about politics and technology and has a new book out called "What We Leave Behind."
PREVIEW: Colleague Blaine Holt comments on the challenge of the hardened Fordow site in Iran that must be destroyed or rendered inoperative. More.

What DOGE Found In Building 427 Made Hardened Federal Agents PHYSICALLY SICK Watch this video at- https://youtu.be/eL_RuDisvW8?si=DnVGkHH8BbbggP9K The Next News Network 2.25M subscribers 187,745 views Apr 10, 2025 The Top News Of The Day In an explosive segment from Next News Network's RAW FEED that's sending shockwaves through Washington, host Gary Franchi reveals how President Trump is systematically dismantling the federal government's most outrageous spending abuses – and the swamp creatures are in absolute panic mode. This isn't just about budget cuts; it's about exposing a decades-long scheme that has funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into empty buildings, luxury furniture, and even $230,000 picnic tables while Americans struggle to afford groceries. Marjorie Taylor Greene led a bombshell DOJ subcommittee hearing that exposed the federal government's massive real estate portfolio: over 250,000 buildings, many completely vacant, costing American taxpayers a staggering $10 BILLION annually just to maintain. These are essentially taxpayer-funded ghost towns where unelected bureaucrats sip lattes while hardworking families drown in inflation. The segment features shocking testimony revealing that the Trump administration has already canceled nearly 700 federal leases in record time – the fastest reduction in federal bloat in U.S. history – saving taxpayers approximately $400 million. One of the most egregious examples exposed was a nearly quarter-billion dollar 15-year lease for a luxury office building on Pennsylvania Avenue signed by the Biden administration to house Voice of America. The kicker? The building had zero broadcasting capabilities, which would have required an additional $130 million in taxpayer funds to install. Even more explosive, a witness confirmed under questioning from Rep. Tim Burchett that families of politicians are directly profiting from these federal leases. "Do spouses of members of Congress own real property and lease it to the federal government?" Burchett asked. The witness responded, "I believe the answer to that question is yes." Burchett's conclusion was damning: "People need to start going to prison." The segment reveals how the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered a shocking $5 TRILLION in "untraceable payments" – government expenditures with no documentation of where or how the money was spent. The head of Social Security resigned the same night DOGE began investigating $72 billion in improper payments from that agency. One of the most outrageous revelations was testimony about the CDC spending $230,000 on a single picnic table while telling Americans not to sit together during the pandemic. As one witness put it, "That rubs the American taxpayer the wrong way." The segment also features Elon Musk responding "Terrible" to footage of Senator Schumer refusing to condemn attacks on Tesla stores while criticizing Musk for cutting government waste. In another viral exchange, Jordan Peterson told Piers Morgan, "It wouldn't surprise me if half the money the government spends is utter waste and worse than that, counterproductive." As America faces a catastrophic $36 trillion debt crisis, Trump's team is bringing common sense back – terminating unused leases, cutting waste, and dramatically shrinking the government footprint. Why? As one witness testified, "We have to right-size our fiscal ship in order to have a country long term." In times of such critical government reform, independent journalism becomes more vital than ever. The mainstream media won't tell you about the billions in waste being slashed or the political families profiting from these sweetheart deals.
