Moore, le créateur de la série, est bien connu pour son talent à mélanger la science-fiction et la réalité historique de manière immersive et convaincante. Dans For All Mankind, Moore continue d'exceller dans cet art en créant un monde alternatif qui ressemble étrangement à notre propre histoire. Le concept original d'une réalité alternative où l'Union soviétique a été la première à poser le pied sur la Lune, provoque un choc électrique chez les Américains. Cette uchronie ouvre la porte à une multitude de récits inexplorés et de développements intrigants. La série explore les implications de cet événement en cascade sur la politique, la technologie, la culture populaire et les relations internationales (l'Union soviétique n'en est qu'un ennemi plus grand), offrant ainsi une toile de fond riche pour les personnages et les intrigues. Les personnages principaux sont à la fois authentiques et complexes comme le sait si bien les écrire Moore. Au cœur de la série se trouve Edward Baldwin (interprété par Joel Kinnaman), un astronaute charismatique qui rappelle Buzz Aldrin (même si ce dernier est mentionné en passant). Baldwin incarne la détermination et le sacrifice qui caractérisent les astronautes (petite pensé pour Thomas Pesquet car on pense toujours à lui quand on parle d'astronaute). À ses côtés, on a ses amis, et surtout des personnages féminins incroyables. Et comme des décennies passent pendant toutes ces saisons, les enfants grandissent, les adultes vieillissent, et peut-être qu'à un moment leur présent dépassera notre présent ? L'égalité des sexes, la discrimination raciale, tous ces thèmes qui sont distillés dans une série qui remet la politique en avant dès sa deuxième saison en plus de la conquête spatiale. D'ailleurs, l'argent public dépensé dans les plans de la NASA est un sujet bien discuté, comment se préoccuper d'un monde inconnu quand sur Terre la guerre du Vietnam fait rage ? L'équilibre entre événements historiques et l'aspect uchronique est très bien fait et on pourrait penser qu'il s'agit de notre monde. The co-creator and executive producer talks about creating and shooting on "Mars" for season three

La série de Ron D. Moore vient de revenir sur Apple TV+ ce 10 juin pour une saison 3 et comme l'annonçait le dernier plan de la saison 2, le but pour les Américains comme pour les Soviétiques est d'arriver les premiers sur Mars. Après avoir conquis la lune (qui a été divisée en deux parties), le nouvel objectif est encore plus audacieux et les complications avant d'atteindre la planète rouge sont nombreuses. La NASA met les bouchées doubles surtout qu'une entreprise privée s'est rajoutée dans la course, Helios, un simili de SpaceX avec un leader plein de défauts et de qualités. Saluée par la critique et malheureusement restée assez confidentielle comme de nombreuses séries d'Apple TV+, For All Mankind est probablement la série de science-fiction la plus ambitieuse du moment. Pas d'aliens ni de technologie ultra avancée, on fait juste avec ce qui existe réellement. Partant d'un postulat dystopique, et si l'URSS avait battu les États-Unis en posant d'abord un pied sur la lune, la vie suit son cours mais les États-Unis blessés dans leur ego, décident de ne pas lâcher la course à l'espace en y mettant tous les moyens mis à leur disposition. Soyez prêt à embarquer pour un voyage spatial magnifique avec une photo et des rendus comme si vous y étiez. https://youtu.be/M4EOW9oqZ4k Cette nouvelle saison continue dans la veine des précédentes, c'est toujours important de l'ancrer dans la réalité avec des références culturelles mais aussi avec des figures historiques comme Bill Clinton en ce qui nous concerne puisque ce sont les années 90 qui se déroulent sous nos yeux. Tout le monde, sauf les sacrifiés qu'ont été Gordo et Tracy, est de retour. Une ellipse de dix ans a lieu alors certains ont pris de l'âge mais pas toujours en maturité. Ces personnages sont nombreux, et en 8 épisodes, certains n'auront pas droit au développement qu'ils méritent, mais l'important c'est d'être présent. On sent également une volonté de mettre en avant la nouvelle génération avec les originaux qui arrivent au bout de leurs chemins et qui sait jusqu'où la saga de For All Mankind durera ? Ron D. Moore la prévoit en sept saisons ce qui devrait l'amener plus loin que notre époque actuelle, et on espère que ce soit le cas. L'aspect politique est comme d'habitude très bien fait, avec la guerre froide qui fait toujours rage mais la série en profite pour tacler en plus l'histoire américaine. On regrettera peut-être le silence sur tout ce qui se passe sur Terre en dehors de la course à l'espace avec des mentions des groupes anti exploration spatiale même si un semblant d'incursion s'annonce dans cette saison. BBC Culture a dévoilé son top 100 des meilleures séries du siècle et il y a forcément eu débat. Parmi ces titres, on vous propose un petit retour sur quatre séries complètement différentes les unes des autres que vous pouvez voir ou revoir sur les différentes plateformes. Cette reco du weekend très éclectique s'adresse à tous les goûts, de l'animation à la comédie musicale en passant par la science-fiction et le drame politique. Borgen (n°40) Avec une saison quatre qui arrive bientôt, il est temps de rattraper les trois saisons de l'incroyable Borgen. Borgen est le surnom donné au bâtiment où siège le parlement danois. Ce drame politique scandinave n'a rien à envier à À la Maison Blanche, et sa Première Ministre Birgitte Nyborg se bat à armes égales avec Josiah Bartlet tant au niveau de son idéalisme que de son charisme. En effet, Sidse Babett Knusden incarne ce rôle pleinement, et a même fait un tour dans le cinéma français. https://youtu.be/zB9m_iBvGZY Les intrigues des jeux de pouvoirs où se mêlent médias, politicards, et vie privée, ne donnent pas une seconde de répit aux spectateurs. Son scénariste et créateur Adam Price, nous offre une démonstration du ton scandinave surtout en matière de politique : incisif et osé. En attendant, vous pouvez rattraper Borgen sur Netflix, mais si vous êtes un fidèle d'Adam Price, Au nom du père est disponible sur Arte. Et si vous aimez les histoires de femmes au pouvoir, peut-être que Madam Secretary est pour vous. Avatar, le dernier maître de l'air (n°61) On continue cette sélection avec une animation. Avatar, le dernier maître de l'air a d'abord connu une adaptation au cinéma qui a laissé à désirer, et débarquera bientôt sur Netflix sous le format série en live-action. Mais à l'origine, c'est bien une série d'animation dont les trois saisons sont disponibles sur la plate-forme de streaming. https://youtu.be/HRg1pjtwrjM Au premier coup d'œil, on pourrait se dire que Avatar n'est qu'un dessin animé pour enfants. Cependant quand on le regarde de plus près, les thématiques philosophiques et universelles de la série possèdent deux niveaux de lecture. L'univers s'inspire grandement du folklore chinois, où le héros dénommé Aang est le successeur d'une lignée d'Avatars, manipulateur des quatre éléments. Chaque élément est protégé par une nation, et celle du Feu s'apprête à conquérir le reste du monde. Au-delà de l'aspect mythologique, Avatar prône surtout le vivre ensemble et la tolérance par le biais de ses personnages et la philosophie zen de Aang. Bien entendu ça reste bon enfant, mais il n'en faut pas plus pour apprécier un divertissement avec un message positif. Si vous avez apprécié cet univers, le spin-off La légende de Korra se déroule quelques années après l'âge d'or de Aang et cible un public un peu plus âgé. Battlestar Galactica (n°70) La beauté d'un top c'est de pouvoir intégrer dans une même sélection une série musicale et une série de science-fiction. Battlestar Galactica n'est plus à présenter, pour tout fan de science-fiction qui se respecte la série est un must see. Reboot de la série des années 70, les plus mauvaises critiques se concentrent sur la dernière saison de la série mais avant cela, l'unanimité est totale. https://youtu.be/q2x14ZhEc9k Ron D. Moore (Outlander) a su opposer religion et philosophie dans une histoire de soulèvement des machines propres à Asimov. Après la destruction des planètes peuplées d'humains par les Cylons, l'Humanité a fui dans plusieurs vaisseaux spatiaux et cherche un nouveau port d'attache. À bord du Galactica, vaisseau de combat, on nous présente un leader chef de guerre aux harangues plus motivantes les unes que les autres. À ses côtés, de nombreux personnages attachants complètent l'équipage. Avec la remasterisation de la série, les effets spéciaux n'ont rien à envier à ceux d'aujourd'hui. Deux spin-offs qui ont moins bien marché existent, Caprica qui revient sur l'origine des Cylons et Blood & Chrome sur la jeunesse de l'amiral Adama. L'intégrale de la série est à découvrir ou redécouvrir sur Prime Vidéo et comme dirait l'amiral Adama so say we all. Crazy Ex Girlfriend (n°98) Après quatre saisons d'une dramédie sur laquelle personne ne pariait, Crazy Ex Girlfriend se hisse dans ce fameux top 100, et à juste titre. Il faut dire que malgré son côté musical rébarbatif pour certains, la qualité de l'écriture et sa pertinence ont mis tout le monde d'accord. Le plot tiré par les cheveux n'a pas fait peur à la CW, puisque la série démarre lorsqu'une avocate new yorkaise abandonne tout du jour au lendemain pour déménager sur la côte californienne afin de retrouver son amour de jeunesse. La dramédie traite de sujets divers et variés pas toujours roses tout en gardant son ton optimiste. https://youtu.be/MpdiIvovA1M On soulignera évidemment son traitement de la dépression et de l'acceptation de soi, son ouverture d'esprit et sa caractérisation bien particulière de ses personnages. C'est aussi au niveau des chansons que la série gagne des points avec des titres marquants comme « You Stupid Bitch » et « Getting Bi » ainsi que des guests de luxe comme Josh Groban ou encore Patti LuPone. C'est pourquoi on a hâte de retrouver Rachel Bloom et Aline Brosh McKenna dans leur nouvelle comédie de Hulu.

On today's episode I talk to writer and showrunner Ron D. Moore. Originally from Chowchilla, CA, Ron broke into TV writing when he passed a spec script he had written to one of Gene Roddenberry's assistants during a tour of the Star Trek: The Next Generation set. This eventually led to him being hired on the show, and from there he wrote on Deep Space Nine, Roswell, Carnivale, and many otherTV shows until eventually he had the opportunity to reboot Battlestar Galactica for Syfy. The show was a critical and commercial success, ran for four seasons and garnered a number of Emmy nominations. Since then, Ron created the spinoff Caprica, adapted the Outlander novels, and most recently, he co-created and showran the great Apple TV show For All Mankind, which just started it's second season last week! THE COUNTDOWN TO OUTLANDER S4 CONTINUES!   News: The official Season 4 opening credits and the music was released on October 6thduring an Outlander panel at the NYCC. Bear McCreary masterfully creates the connection to the colonial south of America by once again altering The Skye Boat song to reflect where the story is going while maintaining its Scottish roots. The credits also combine the familiar beginning with snippets from the season that include the sweeping expanse of River Run, the backcountry cabin on Fraser's Ridge, Brianna touching the stone at Craigh na Dun, traditional dancing, a handfasting, and more. Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Richard Rankin, and Sophie Skelton, producers, Maril Davis, and Ron D. Moore, and writer Diana Gabaldon were at the NYCC doing autographs and participated in panels. Matthew and Dean discuss the tonal shift with "Tigh Me Up" and how it seems oddly placed in the series. Ron D. Moore himself decided to "punt" on the original take of the episode which was to be much darker. The thought process was to let the audience come up for air after a heavy and dark preceding episode.
