At our Christmas Eve service, Pastor Greg invites us to see the humility, love, and saving power of Christ Jesus--at his birth, at the cross, and on His throne--and subsequently invites us to humble ourselves before Him so that he can lift us up.
Two men would be called the same thing: "King of the Jews." One man was given the title by the Roman Senate for his ruthless and victorious military campaigns. The other man was given the title as he was crucified by Roman authorities. By bringing Herod & Jesus together at the SAME time in history, God shows (once again) that He uses people who appear to be weak to triumph over those who appear to be strong. Herod the Great seemed unstoppable, but as it turns out, he was no match for (even baby) Jesus.
From Matthew 2, the story of Christmas and the wisemen is read - with several readers - as an introduction to a message on how good things can come from worshipping The Lord.

"Here comes trouble." Has anyone said that about you before? Well, people definitely said that about Jesus. And, surprisingly, Jesus said that his followers should expect trouble, too. Even more than that, James 1:2 says that we should consider it a pure joy when troubles come. What?! So, what does the coming of Jesus teach us about troubles? That's what Pastor Chris Kipp teaches on in this episode entitled, "Unexpected Troubles." Renaissance Church - Richmond, Texas ren-church.org #alloflifealltheearth

A couple thousand years ago, Jesus was born to set us free. The Creator of the Universe became a human being in human flesh and walked among us. Even with that great coming of Jesus, the light of God living with us in the world, we still lose our way and get trapped by the darkness, and so into that darkness, God continues to give little epiphanies, to show us the light once again and to set us free.

Look at the lives of King Herod and Joseph (the earthly father of Jesus). How are they remembered? What is their legacy?
Our mission at Community Church of Greenwood is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live in full devotion to Him. We want to help people far from God to experience new life in Jesus Christ.
Matthew's account gives a fearful and strained beginning to the life of Jesus, telling of Herod's plan to kill Him and of how His family fled to Egypt. The account also provides an eye to the magnificence of Jesus in that the magi from the east gave Him kingly gifts and worshiped.
1.) The disease that separates us from God 2.) The disease that seeks to avoid diagnosis 3.) The disease that always deceives us 4.) The disease that hurts those around us What is the choice that you will make to be healed?
Next Steps: Look for ways to demonstrate your allegiance to King Jesus by sacrificial love this week. Take advantage of direct access to God through Jesus the High Priest by spending time in prayer and reading scripture this week. Thank Jesus for exhausting the power of death by dying.

This Advent sermon series examines the nativity story by investigating the characters who either missed out on or almost missed out on the birth of Christ. There are many things that can keep us from being transformed by Jesus’ birth—pride, distraction, selfishness, or disappointment. This series reminds us we could miss out on the real meaning of Christmas.

Everyone dreams of a picture perfect Christmas. But, travel plans, mile-long shopping lists, and family visits can threaten to crowd the joy out of the season. This December, we're looking at how the challenges of the first Christmas magnified the joy of Jesus' birth. Join us for four weeks of Christmess, as we celebrate the birth of a Savior! Selected Quotes: The world was on the edge of its seat waiting for something to happen… a new king was about to be born. Everyone is looking for something, someone, to devote their lives to. We are all looking for a King.

Jesus' miraculous birth changes everything.
In this message, Pastor Neil considers the Christmas story through various lenses of that time: the threat to Herod, the expectation of the Wise Men, and the foreboding of the demonic forces.

Christmas Season-The Wise Men and God's Plan
At this time of year, we love to hear words like joy, peace and glad tidings of great joy. Especially if we are Christians, we love those words because we know what they mean for us. But we also need to be reminded of the great cost by which we have joy and peace and experience glad tidings of great joy. Our passage opens with unexpected worship of Christ, the newborn King . . . but ends with weeping, sorrow, and fear. It is these things that foreshadow the means by which God provides ultimate joy for every believer and hope for those not yet believing.
