In this episode, I talk to the brilliant musical comedian STEVE GRIBBIN about his comedy career. Armed with guitar, Steve Gribbin is a hysterically funny comedian from Liverpool, UK, whose wonderful comedy songs and superb observations have made him one of the firm favourites of the comedy circuit. Gribbin was on the first bill that I ever saw at the comedy store in 1988. As one half of musical comedy group Skint Video in the nineties, he then went solo. I have been a big fan ever since and have watched and laughed so much at him many times. Highlights include his acclaimed solo show Shunted Again ion 2017 at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017 and since 2020 every Sunday, his online show Songbashing Sundae is highly recommended. Thanks so much for listening to my podcast, if you like what you hear, please subscribe and I hope you enjoy the interview. Joined by musical comedy legend and self-confessed maverick trainspotter Steve Gribbin, Ben and Barry chug along on a journey from the Corinthian in Ancient Greece to the Vatican City via New Zealand, Burma and a very creepy Victorian rail system. James O'Brien reveals the shameless and frankly disgusting behaviour of some members of the British aristocracy when it comes to trying to return unwanted clothing; Dan Smith of International Alert dispenses wisdom on the Middle East and hits a new personal best in laconic laugh generation of a one-syllable trigger. Angela Barnes reveals her crush on a senior British politician, Richard Herring effortlessly hits a trademark balance between gags and comments that other comics can only dream of emulating, Rich Peppiatt tells of the days he used to roam the streets of London in a burka with hilarious and nearly fatal consequences, and Steve Gribbin simply delivers two great songs. Alistair Barrie mounts a convincing argument in favour of veils for all, and Nick Revell brings tragic news from the catwalks of Milan.
Rob Grant, Simon Munnery, Kevin Day and Polly Toynbee join James O'Brien, Nick Revell and Alistair Barrie to tackle the crisis at the BBC; Jimmy Savile; the US Election; Remembrance Day and Afghanistan; the state of the Coalition halfway through its term; class-A drugs; and life in the jungle. With music from Steve Gribbin.
2012 #21: Monkey Jesus - Nick Doody and Steve Gribbin. Rich is delighted that at last some funny news stories have appeared for him to joke about, like badly restored frescos and Prince Harry's embodied anus, but the audience aren't so sure that he is as funny as he thinks he is despite him having a T-shirt which PROVES he is the 6 star King of Edinburgh. Nick Doody is sitting on the guest stool today and chats about how it's a bad idea to consult a comedian if you have blood in your urine, how he lives in the opening titles of Peep Show, why there is a massive picture of his face in Edinburgh and at Seaworld and the time he interviewed Bill Hicks as a 19 year-old (listen to it here: http://bit.ly/DoodyHicks). Richard is unpleasant and the audience seem surprised, but he at least apologises for some of his worst excesses before compounding them. But he asks the questions that other interviewers fear to ask, but only because he hasn't got a list with the proper questions on and thinks it's better to ask about ghosts. Steve Gribbin provides the music as he will on every 23rd August as long as this podcast is running. It's a guaranteed booking.
No Pressure To Be Funny joins forces with Amnesty International UK for a podcast from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. With contributions from NP2BF creators Alistair Barrie and Nick Revell, and music from Steve Gribbin, Loretta Maine (the alter ego of Pippa Evans) and Phil Nichol. Topics include Pussy Riot, Julian Assange and offensiveness in comedy.

Dave Fulton and Steve 'Gibbon' Gribbin - In the last days Rich has seen the world's most urchiny children and the poshest baby ever and there's a young man with a bow tie in the front row today. Perhaps he is asleep and dreaming all this. Today's guest is ex drug dealer and grave robber Dave Fulton who climbs up frozen waterfalls for fun. He also has an incredible story about Richard from 1999 that the womanising drunkard Somerset comedian has no memory of. It's a goodie though. The two men, with fifty years' worth of comedy experience between them, have some serious things to say about the business of making people laugh, but there's plenty of funnies too. And another golden oldie with more than a quarter of a century's experience is on hand to give us five minutes of his act, the exuberant Steve Gribbin. This show is so different every day. Hope you're enjoying it as much as we are.
Ashley 'The Oracle' Blaker, Steve Gribbin and Tom Adams debate what Roy's face rub was all about. And other Liverpool related stuff of course. Iain Coyle is 'unwell'.
