LAFC rolls back into Banc of California Stadium for the first time in three weeks, and waiting for them at the gates are the reigning CONCACAF champs, the Seattle Sounders. It's Episode 205, where Filly and Scarf break down all the fun that was LAFC's 4th straight win. With kickoff set for 8:15, the stars were aligned for some serious “MLS After Dark” action. The game's ominous start definitely qualified, as just 15 minutes in, Cristian Roldan plays through three LAFC defenders before crossing a ball into the box and off the foot of Jesus David Murillo for just our second own goal of the season. Down 1-0, and narrowly escaping going down two, LAFC would answer. A lightning strike by Mahala knotted the match at one in the 35th minute. Just 8 minutes later, Jose Cifuentes would deliver a perfect ball to Carlos Vela, and in Ciman-like fashion, the ball trickled through Stefan Frei's legs to put the good guys up, 2-1. In the second half, Gareth Bale came on after about an hour, and that was just about all the excitement to write home about. LAFC takes down Seattle and solidifies their spot atop the Supporters Shield race. Also on this episode, Filly quotes Noah Webster while Scarf dreams of a Chiellini hug at center pitch. With two games in the next 7 days, including an exhibition against Club America at Sofi, it's going to be another fun week for the Black and Gold, and for the Defenders! See you for 206!
Luis Suarez needs a new club to prepare for the World Cup, is LAFC the right move? Christian doesn't think so! Luis Suarez has left Ateltico Madrid and is rumored to be going back to Nacional in Uruguay, his boyhood club. Rumor is he'd be willing to join LAFC but not until after the World Cup. Remember, thats next season for MLS and LAFC. If he joins LAFC, that makes LAFC the favorites to win the league this year, no? Would Gareth Bale stay to play with Luis Suarez? How would he fit in with Gareth Bale, Carlos Vela, and Chiellini who are already there? This could be one memorable LAFC season.
Come one, come all, to Episode 203 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth," Defenders of the Banc! On most nights, our first match in Nashville, and certainly our first meeting against Walker Zimmerman since we traded him to Nashville in 2020, would take center stage. But this was not most nights, LAFC faithful. Ever since the signings of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, LAFC supporters wondered when and where they would their debut, and all signs pointed to Nashville. Sure enough, announced in the 18 was the Welsh superstar, Bale, and starting next to Jesus David Murillo on the back line was Chiellini. Tonight would be another in what has been a long line of “pinch me moments” this season for the Black and Gold. LAFC struck first, off the foot of, who else, Chicho Arango. The play began with a long pass from Chiellini to Vela, who back-heeled it to Hollingshead. Ryan's pass crosses the goal box to Chicho, who slots it home from a tough angle to give LAFC the 1-0 lead. All was fine until a silly foul by Ilie in the box on C.J. Sapong. After VAR confirmed the foul, the dangerous Hany Mukhtar stepped up to the spot and buried it, knotting the match at 1 heading into halftime. The second stanza has belonged to LAFC all season, and this match would be no different. Just a minute into the half, Carlos Vela drops an absolute DIME to Hollingshead, whose extraordinary effort literally puts the ball on frame. It caroms off the post to Cifu, and Jose hammers it home for his 6th of the year to give LAFC the lead for good, 2-1. Among the other highlights of the second half: Chiellini comes off at the hour mark for Eddie Segura, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi makes his return to the pitch for Mahala in the 84th, and OMG Gareth Bale makes his LAFC debut! In the 72nd minute, Chicho gives way to Bale, and all of GEODIS Park, not just the LAFC supporters, rose in applause and admiration. Gareth Bale is officially Black and Gold! The boys are definitely up to their usual knuckleheadedness on 203: We do a deep dive on the Butt family and H-E-B (not in Family Guy), explore Adrian Fein's time at Hamburger (also not in Family Guy), chat about Peterhead in Scotland (still not in Family Guy), and recount the inspiration for “Filly and the Scarf” (which IS in Family Guy!). Wow. We highlight the All Stars and TOTW-ers, the Las Vegas Lights, Angel City, and even Red Card Roger! We loved making 203, and we hope you'll join us soon for Episode 204!

Max Bretos was one of the first North American voices doing soccer play-by-play back when few matches were shown live, and even fewer were called in the stadium. Now the play-by-play voice of LAFC and host of The Soccer OG Podcast, Bretos IS "The Soccer OG" and joined James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Brendan Dunlop and producer Dan Wong as part of this week's interview series. Bretos talks about the growth of the sport in North America, from calling games he didn't know if anyone was watching, to working for one of the flagship franchises in Major League Soccer that is reshaping the sports landscape in Los Angeles with the additions of superstar Gareth Bale and European champion Giorgio Chiellini. They laugh about the old days working "a niche sport", and Bretos reveals his West Ham fandom, and that he was actually covering the 2000 Gold Cup Final at the LA Coliseum when Craig cemented his legacy as one of Canada's greatest ever players. Lana Del Rey's hit song “Summertime Sadness” could've been the anthem for Toronto FC fans driving home from BMO Field Saturday night, and anyone that still doesn't have reliable internet service. The expected debut of Lorenzo Insigne was delayed for two weeks, and TFC conceded in stoppage time to draw the San Jose Earthquakes 2-2. But as Brendan Dunlop, Craig Forrest and Jimmy Brennan discuss, brighter days are ahead for Jimmy's old club as TFC pulled off a trade to land midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for Ralph Priso, and loads of TAM/GAM cash. At the match as a fan, Jimmy is reminded of how aggressive he was as a player by San Jose's Shea Salinas. The Canadian women's national team punched their ticket to the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup in Australia and New Zealand by reaching the semi-final stage at the CONCACAF W Championship. The crew take credit for Julia Grosso's emergence as a prolific CanWNT goalscorer, since appearing on Footy Prime. Chelsea's £45 million signing of Raheem Sterling from Man City is seen as a win for all parties involved. Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini experience El Tráfico from the sidelines, and Jimmy & Craig explain why European players are so attracted to the North American lifestyle. It's Episode 200! 200 episodes of THE Most LAFC Podcast on Earth! 200 episodes of Filly, Scarf, and all the LAFC craziness you could ever want. 200. Wow. What a number. And it would mean nothing without YOU, the Millions... there to support us along the way. We're hoping Episode 200 fits like your favorite baseball glove or t-shirt: Comfy in all the right places but still giving you the consistency and support you need when it counts! Here on 200, we trounce Dallas, 3-1, to bring us to the halfway point of the 2022 season. Moose gets the party started off an absolutely beautiful through ball from Cifu. That's right! LAFC scored first! But... about 15 minutes later, the current USMNT darling, Jesus Ferreira, equalized off a beautiful free kick goal that kissed the underside of the crossbar as it went in. Jesus Ferreira looked more like he was warming up for the All Star Game Skills Competition than anything else. What a goal. Though we would head to the half level, Dolo did what Dolo does best, halftime adjustments. LAFC strings four passes together as Vela finds Chicho for the second match in a row to lead 2-1, and LAFC would never look back. A solid effort defensively from Dallas was outdone by an absolute lightning bolt of a shot from Mahala in the 85 to salt it away, and LAFC heads to the halfway point of the MLS season on top of the world. Also on 200, Chiellini ruins a suit, Eddie's back, and Filly and Scarf reminisce about the first 200 episodes. This truly has been a wonderful journey, and we would be nothing without the support from all of you! Here's to the next 200!

LAFC made headline news on Saturday morning with the signing of world superstar Gareth Bale. Also with the addition of Chiellini the black and gold also announced that Carlos Vela had re-signed with the team in 2023.
It's Episode 199 and OMG GARETH BALE IS COMING TO LAFC!!! It's not a rumor, it's not a wish, it's not a hope... it's a reality. Gareth Bale, the Gareth Bale of the bicycle kick in the Champions League, the Gareth Bale of 5 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cup titles, 3 UEFA Super League titles, and 3 La Liga titles, the Gareth Bale who almost singlehandedly willed Wales to the World Cup, is coming to LAFC. And not like Kylian Mbappe came to watch an LAFC. He's going to play for the Black and Gold!Aaaaaaand... Carlos Vela has re-signed for LAFC through 2023. The Captain is Black and gold for at least another full year!Oh, and we also beat the New York Red Bulls at the Banc. After a so-so first half where NYRB actually outplayed LAFC a bit, LAFC's depth and talent outlasted the club from Harrison. Just past the hour mark, 'Dolo subbed on Chicho Arango and Kellyn Acosta, and almost immediately (3 minutes later), Chicho and Carlos connect for Chicho's 5th goal of the season. Just three more minutes later, after 68 matches in Black and Gold, Chiqui Palacios gets his first goal in Black and Gold, off a solid run and pass from Brian Rodriguez. LAFC celebrated their Pride Match in the best way possible, 3 points against a solid but undermanned Red Bulls club. Before the match, an incredible tifo and a beautiful proposal kicked off the festivities. During the match, Kylian Mbappe was shown to be in attendance. And all throughout the match, visions of Bale, Chiellini, and the DP still to come (who could it be?!) danced through everyone's heads. What a time to be part of the Black and Gold! Our next episode will be 200! 200!!! We are hoping to have some great things for the episode, and we definitely have some fun planned for the next few as well. It's going to be a fun ride this week, just like the first 199 episodes have been!

Juventus signed off for the 2021-22 season with a we're-on-the-beach kind of performance against Fiorentina this past weekend, but the real memorable moments came last Monday night at Allianz Stadium — for good and for bad. On Episode 100 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: One singular takeaway from the week that was — we aren't going to talk much — if anything at all — about Juventus' 2-0 season-ending loss to Fiorentina on Saturday night. Looking back at the home finale on Monday night against Lazio. Not really talking about the game as you might think, but moreso talking about the farewells to Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala as they each got one hell of a sendoff in their final games at Allianz Stadium as Juventus players. However, as you might have noticed, the tone surrounding Chiellini and Dybala's respective farewells was very, very different. Also, how about that reaction Juventus president Andrea Agnelli got during Chiellini's post-game ceremony? That was ... rough. Juventus are reportedly close to signing Paul Pogba and Ángel Di Maria on free transfers. Is this a good idea? Is this a bad idea? Could one of them be worse of an idea than the other? Twitter questions — including realistic and dream scenarios for the summer transfer window and what some of most favorite and least favorite memories from the 2021-22 season ended up being. Vancouver Whitecaps head coach, Vanni Sartini, joined Matt and Blake after a victory over a CPL team in Valour. Happy they did their job and have now qualified for the quarter final. They have stopped this bad tradition of losing to a lower level team. Was pleased with the first half but second half became sleepy. That’s why the chances dried up. A game of two faces. Likes that the last two games have been clean sheets. Talked about Teibert. The soul of the group. Thinks that he has been picked on by the fans too much. He leads the team on the pitch with his intensity. Talked about Chiellini. Has met him a lot of times but not recently. Everything is possible. Would absolutely love to have the captain of the Italian national team. Will say no for now as they don’t have the rights. If the rights holders don’t have good conversations then they will see what happens. Says it would be nice to have another Italian on the squad so it’s easy to communicate. Talked about Baldisimo. Says he had a very bad family situation but all the stress overwhelmed him on the pitch. Is proud of him. It wasn’t an injury, was related to his mental condition. Says the better the national team does in Canada, the better it is for everyone who works in soccer in Canada. They can feed each other with the excitement for soccer. Scott Rintoul joined for his regular Thursday spot! Talked about the return of Boudreau and if and when it will happen. Says it’s not done until it’s done. Doesn’t think the Canucks should tank for an opportunity for Connor Bedard. Would love to see it here. Where the core players are at here, that would be a long shot to have them finish that low. Talked about Canada Soccer and the upcoming matches at BC Place.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
