Episode 262 - No Ferreira, No Problem As Dallas Wins 2-0LAFC looked to get back on the right side of things as they head to take on a Dallas club decimated by injuries and international duty. After a perplexing loss to Vancouver, this couldn't have been a better time to take on Dallas... right?Wrong. Despite missing Jesus Ferreira, Paul Arriola, Obrian, and others, Dallas took over the second half (after Chiellini and Tillman came off), kept LAFC at bay, and walked out of the sweltering humidity of Frisco with a 2-0 win. 7 losses in 10 matches is the prelude to Carson at the Rose Bowl. LAFC falls to second in the Western Conference as questions must get louder about a true 9. The transfer window looms, and we need bodies and rest. Also on this episode, it's Scarf who rants against the antiquated MLS as we get set to play 33 matches by July 15. Yes, that's a record by a WIDE margin. We also take time to remember Chris "Spanto" Printup, founder of Born x Raised and beloved Angelino. Rest well, Spanto.
We discuss Riqui Puig's celebration against LAFC second team. Also preview the CCL final.
El Trafico always delivers, this time with all-time petty moments between Riqui Puig and the 3252 and Giorgio Chiellini and Puig. t's Episode 231, and it's Kit Launch Day 2023! Like Dobby, the Defenders were very excited to get clothes, as LAFC dropped the "Smokescreen" Kit hours before their final preseason tilt of 2023. USL-side San Diego Loyal makes the trip up the coast to BMO, bringing with them a couple of familiar faces. Before the match, LAFC HQ was packed with Black and Gold faithful buying olive green away kits, a departure from the "linen" kits of 2 years ago. The MLS Cup was there in ALL shapes and sizes, with mini cups given out to kit-purchasers, the actual MLS Cup at the FLEX Photo Booth in Pepsi Plaza, and the massive cup just inside the stadium near the North End! Our cup(s) runneth over!LAFC handled their business on both Murillo and Romero's birthdays. One mistake spoiled the clean sheet in what was otherwise a dominating performance by LAFC. Goals from Vela, Mahala, and Bouanga, off of beautiful assists by Mahala, Chiellini, and Murillo, gave LAFC the 3-1 win and closed out our sixth preseason. It's onto the Rose Bowl, where LAFC aims to BLACK OUT Pasadena. While these new green kits are fun, please don't wear them next week as we take on Carson! Enjoy Episode 231, and make sure to wear your BLACK kits next weekend!
In this Chronicles Tifosi Patreon members-only episode preview: Chronicles Tifosi Patreon member, Will from Reading, England, sent us this question via Twitter, which Nicky Bandini answers... What has gone wrong for Leonardo Bonucci? I know his move to Milan (and return) was controversial to say the least, but surely at one point he was a highly rated defender who was popular with Juve fans? Is it that he was made to look a better player when Barzagli and Chiellini were next to him? Is he just declining because of age? And why has he fallen out with Allegri? While he's still officially captain, it seems like he's not very popular at all and is making mistakes leading to goals - the home game against Maccabi Haifa, and away against Milan come to mind. Get star stuck on this episode with superstar Giorgio Chiellini! A "student" of the game, Chiellini discusses how the defender role has changed through the years and which MLS defenders impress him. His love for tacos, LAFC supporters, and the Supporters' Shield race. Plus, what is the real story behind THAT espresso machine?
LAFC gets back to the Banc, and back to their winning ways to begin Kick Childhood Cancer Month. Maxime Crepeau blanks RSL, 2-0, and helps LAFC to 60 points on the season while wrestling back control in the race for the Shield.Ryan Hollingshead rips a banger just after halftime, Captain Carlos finds Chicho in the 68th minute, and Maxime Crepeau does all the heavy lifting with 5 big saves as LAFC ends their 3-game losing streak. Bouanga gets a surprise start while Chiellini is great again. Also on this episode, the boys are up really late, again. Oy. It's Episode 214, complete with improvised singing, Filly possibly making up words, and Scarf being asked to take his top off. Don't worry, it stayed on. Enjoy Episode 2014!
This matchup had all the makings. Number 1 vs. Number 2 in the West. The two highest scoring clubs in the league. A club looking to strengthen its grip on the shield vs. a club on the rise. Black and Gold vs. Verde and Black. But in the end, the team that was #1 played like number two, and Austin nips further at LAFC's heels after a 4-1 drubbing. Let's get through this together, Black and Gold faithful, here on Episode 212. With Filly in LA and Scarf in Colorado, LAFC looked to avenge their only home loss of the year by beating Austin in their friendly confines. Physical from the start, Austin defended their home turf with authority. Just 8 minutes in, the match's first dust up, featuring Gareth Bale, who made his first start for LAFC, Muri, Jon Gallagher, and others would be a harbinger of things to come. After a nasty foul by Eddie Segura at the half-hour mark, Diego Fagundez's stunning effort on the ensuing free kick put the home side up 1-0. Somehow, it only made #8 on SportsCenter's Top 10. Another big dustup in the 38' would feature three yellows and a whole lot more shoving. The half would end 1-0, but the fireworks had just begun. As the second half kicked off, Austin would waste no time putting their stamp on this one. Two minutes, Maxi Urruti gets on the end of a great cross by Nick Lima to put the home side up two. Three minutes later, Austin would strike again off an LAFC turnover. Urruti with the steal, Fagundez splits the defense right through the middle, and it's Urruti on the other end of it yet again for a brace. If there was a roof on Q2 Stadium, it would have been obliterated. As the wound gushed for LAFC, Diego Fagundez would call time of death at about the 59'. A beautiful pass from Diego to the probable MVP and Golden Boot winner, Sebastian Driussi, for his 19th, would put the home side up four, yes, four goals. LAFC would muster a bit of life during the final half hour. Subbing on Escobar, Chiellini, and Mahala, and later Danny Trejo, Cherundolo found some energy for his club. LAFC would answer just a minute into the final half hour, with Chicho slotting home a rebound. He had numerous other solid attempts, including a possible-penalty-turned-post ringing, and got plenty of help from Mahala, Trejo, and a revitalized midfield, but it was far too little, far too late. LAFC would fall and fall hard, 4-1. Also on 212, we bid farewell to Brian (with his song coming in 213!), good luck and see you soon to Mamadou Fall, and hello to Tello! Scarf checks in from Colorado, Filly heads off to Motley Crue, Oka Nikolov visits with Max and Vince, Vegas plucks another from the Academy, the USYNTs are covered in Black and Gold, and there's a blood drive coming up at the Banc! Check out all this and more on Episode 212, sponsored by FLEX Power Tools! We'll see you in a few short days for 213.
Chiellini revela como ligar a pesar de ser "más feo que el hambre"
Wait, didn't we just do this? Just 48 hours after a 5-0 shellacking of Charlotte, LAFC was back at it again as Wayne Rooney and the club from our nation's capital, DC United, took the 300-mile journey West to the Banc. While this wouldn't end 5-0, 3 points is 3 points, and LAFC runs their winning streak to 7 with a hard-fought 1-0 victory on a strange Tuesday night. The first half was a series of missed chances and solid runs ending in disappointing finishes for LAFC. DC may not have had many chances, but there were enough to keep you on your toes. But everything would change at about the hour mark, and the Black and Gold would find magic in Mahala once more. After picking up his first yellow of the match just 10 minutes earlier, DC's Steven Birnbaum collected a second at the 60-minute mark, resulting in some quality time with Team Security Paul as he was escorted off the pitch. Two minutes later, Mahala would sub in for Brian Rodriguez, injecting LAFC with a much-needed spark. Five minutes into his shift, Mahala would find paydirt, as passes from Carlos and Chicho found their mark for an easy tap-in for Opoku. LAFC would go up 1-0, and that would be all Maxime Crepeau and co. would need. Though it was much closer than predicted. LAFC walks out with all 3 points and their sights still set on breaking records and setting standards. Also on this episode, Jamie Jarrin, Panda, and Nina all share the pitch pregame, keeper kits are here, Chiellini and Bale are out, and we look back at a moment in LAFC history that may have set the bar unrealistically high for a young Brian Rodriguez. Enjoy Episode 209, and stay tuned for a fantastic interview with DJ Flict on Episode 210!
Back at the Banc for the final time on a Saturday night until playoffs, LAFC looked to make a statement. It's safe to say that they did, hanging a 5-spot on Charlotte as they embark on 3 matches in 8 days! Here on Episode 208, we cover all 5 goals, the birth of Filly, and so much more! While the first half was a little sluggish, LAFC had quality set pieces while looking for a way through Charlotte's block of 9 in the back. Brian Rodriguez played well, Eddie Segura got the start, and both Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini got some rest. And then... the second half started. Four minutes in, Muri got on the end of a beautiful ball from Chiqui to begin the spiral. 10 minutes later, Cifu puts home a rebound on a WIDE open net after another solid set piece. The big guns got into the act next, with both Carlos Vela and Chicho Arango scoring just 3 minutes apart, and just when you thought it was safe, LAFC gets some help from Charlotte. Maxime Crepeau plays a beautiful long ball to Mahala, who then springs Latif with a great pass. His initial shot was saved by Kahlina, but Anton Walkes, Charlotte defender, walked the ball right into the back of the net off his own chest. 5-0 LAFC. Also on this episode, we wish happy birthday to Fiily, Sujin, Connor, Magic, Chiellini, Kovar, and even Rodrigo Pacheco! Both Pablo Escobar AND Christian Bale make appearances as the Defenders "switch the flip" several times. We'll see you in 48 hours for 209!
Luis Suarez needs a new club to prepare for the World Cup, is LAFC the right move? Christian doesn't think so! Luis Suarez has left Ateltico Madrid and is rumored to be going back to Nacional in Uruguay, his boyhood club. Rumor is he'd be willing to join LAFC but not until after the World Cup. Remember, thats next season for MLS and LAFC. If he joins LAFC, that makes LAFC the favorites to win the league this year, no? Would Gareth Bale stay to play with Luis Suarez?
