Nick and Angela welcome one of their favourite comics to Dish HQ. Broadcaster, comedian, writer and conductor Sue Perkins was born in South London. A Cambridge University graduate, Sue's journey into comedy began when she joined the prestigious Footlights, where she met her friend Mel Giedroyc. The duo quickly made a name for themselves, hosting Channel 4's Late Lunch and Light Lunch in the nineties, while also writing for the legendary French & Saunders and, later, Absolutely Fabulous in 2003. Her biggest TV job to date came in 2010, when she and Mel cohosted The Great British Bake Off for seven wildly successful series. Outside of television, Sue's broadcasting credentials include hosting Britain's best-loved radio comedy Just A Minute on BBC Radio 4. You can watch her new TV show Chess Masters: The Endgame on BBC iPlayer and listen to her new podcast Mel and Sue: Should Know By Now on Audlibe. Nick pours Sue a Botivo, a non-alcoholic aperitivo, to start, while Angela prepares a mouthwatering Malaysian prawn laksa curry. The experts at Waitrose pair this with a La Val albariño and for dessert Angela makes Sue her favourite black forest gateau. Nick and Angela are (in their words) giddy at the sight of Sue Perkins sitting opposite them and our trio collapse into fits of laughter throughout this conversation. Sue loves to cook and recounts her best and worst food moments. She also talks about the time she met a shaman in a hot tub, and listen out for her incredible response to the End of Show Question. You can now watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she'll try to answer them in a future episode. Dish is a S:E Creative Studio production for Waitrose Learn more about your ad choices. This week Tyler talks to voice actor and restorer Keith Wickham about his history with the Goons, about a show he has produced for Radio 4 called Raiders of the Lost Archive (which is being broadcast the day after this podcast goes out, on the 13th October) and a recently discovered Hancock's Half Hour featuring Peter Sellers. One of this country's most in-demand voice artists, Keith discovered Sellers at a tender age thanks to an indulgent schoolteacher and was immediately hooked. He soon abandoned his ambition to become a surgeon to focus on comedy and he recounts visits to watch classic radio comedy series being recorded, including I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Just A Minute. He also developed an interest and talent for restoring radio shows, and as well as The Goon Show one of his proudest achievements in this field has been the complete I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again. He talks about collaborating with people like Ted Kendall, Richard Harrison and Steve Arnold and how he went about sourcing material - old tapes, discs etc - and the challenges he faced. Raiders of the Lost Archive tells the story of the audio engineers, enthusiasts and hobbyists who have spent years tracking down lost radio shows, dusting them off, cleaning them up and releasing them back into the world. Of particular note is the recently unearthed Hancock's Half Hour episode 'The Marriage Bureau', long thought lost forever, which featured Peter Sellers in a one-off appearance standing in for Kenneth Williams. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001cxx2

Dr. Wess Stafford, President Emeritus of Compassion International son of missionaries to the Ivory Coast, Wess grew up as one of the village children cared for by a wise and loving African “extended family.” He earned undergraduate degrees from Moody Bible Institute, Biola University and a master's degree from Wheaton College, as well as a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Wess is a veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Army as a linguist in military intelligence. Wess joined the staff of Compassion International in 1977 and worked with the ministry, both overseas and at headquarters. He served as President for 20 years. He is also an avid outdoorsman and committed family man, living on a small ranch near Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his wife Donna who was a Compassion sponsor even before she met Wess. They have two daughters, Jenny and Katie — the two children in the world for whom Wess is the greatest advocate of all. We are so honored to have this conversation with Dr. Stafford. We cover a lot of ground hearing from Wess about his upbringing in Africa and all the lessons he learned that structured his leadership in serving Compassion International and ultimately being its president for 20 years. Check out Dr. Stafford's Books; "Just A Minute" and "Too Small To Ignore." To join Dr. Stafford in the battle against poverty visit www.compassion.com and support a child in need. Edge of the Box returns to preview the weekend's action in the Premier League with super sub Julien Laurens standing in for Jonathan Wilson to make his debut. It's some week to do it as we preview three fierce rivalries in detail, starting with Manchester United's trip to Arsenal before a London derby between Chelsea and West Ham and the Merseyside derby as Everton make the short trip to face Liverpool. We discuss Erik ten Hag's initial to do list upon his Old Trafford arrival and who he can trust for next season, as well as Arsenal's search for a striker. There are Combined XI reveals for Arsenal vs United and Chelsea vs West Ham but we didn't feel as though Liverpool-Everton would be worthwhile...We also assess Chelsea's defensive concerns ahead of the new season, West Ham's defensive concerns ahead of the weekend and whether Sadio Mane is now Liverpool's best option to lead the line.As ever we preview every match this weekend in our Just A Minute section and have three boosted bets courtesy of show sponsors Bet Victor that are well worth considering. All of this week's boosts can be found in the link below: https://www.betvictor.com/en-gb/sports/240/sections/custom-list/8/group/0/item/4To ensure you don't miss an episode do subscribe to our YouTube channel, or search Edge of the Box wherever you get your podcasts!Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/Whoscored?sub_confirmation=1Subscribe to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/Whoscored?sub_confirmation=1Follow WhoScored ⚽• Twitter: https://twitter.com/WhoScored• Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/officialwhoscored#Football #PremierLeague See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week on the NTWJ pod, we explore brand-building + songwriting – celebrating "Complicated Kids" + creativity for all. Full of funny throwback memories of where it all began, at an impromptu summer backyard party + puppet show debuting an original Other Brown Girl Ukulele “Island” song that I co-wrote with multi-talented JESSE FRIEBERG (a.k.a. JESSE JUKEBOX) + Disney singer-songwriter Maria Christensen over Zoom. (Oh, did I mention Maria also writes for Jennifer Lopez + Celine Dione? How lucky am I to have such musical, magical friends?!) JESSE FRIEBERG (a.k.a. JESSE JUKEBOX) is a musician, songwriter, recording artist, performer for kids. He's on a mission to inspire children and their parents to be creative, compassionate, free-thinking, and a little bit smarter than he is (which is pretty darn smart). Based out of Cleveland, Ohio, Jesse accomplishes his mission by writing and recording original children's music. He puts on amusing, thrilling, and interactive live shows that entertain children and grown-ups alike. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, instead of mastering the art of Jazz and shredding guitars, Jesse dedicated his time to writing, recording, and performing fun and catchy children's music for families. Jesse has released 3 albums and has a new album coming out called “Just A Minute” that will be released in Spring of 2022 with album artwork by Lindsey Bryan. In 2021, Jesse accepted his invitation to join the Recording Academy. Jesse's passion for working with children led him to receive his Masters in Early Childhood Education from Ursuline College in 2015. He applies the skills he learned to give high-energy, interactive, early childhood music classes that the whole family gets into. Jesse is driven by Rock and Roll, The Blues, Batman, Electric guitars, Silliness, Funky Bass Lines, Pizza, Corny jokes, Loud Drums, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Banjos, Outer Space, and all things awesome. www.otherbrowngirl.com/blog/obg-in-the-cle-theme-song www.jessejukebox.com www.facebook.com/Jessejukebox Instagram: @jessejukeboxmusic Twitter: @jjkidsongs

Edge of the Box returns to preview GW 16 of the Premier League this week but first we review the Champions League group stages, ranking the best teams in the tournament and a best group stage XI without Messi, Ronaldo or Salah… We then preview the Portugal-heavy Man City vs Wolves clash with a focus on Bernardo Silva in our Premier League form rankings before making the emotional trip back to Anfield with Steven Gerrard. Is the current Liverpool side better than any he played in, and which Villa players has he had the biggest impact upon? After previewing the seven remaining matches in our staple ‘Just A Minute' feature we finish with a preview of Newcastle's trip to Leicester, and with the transfer window looming, suggest a handful of sensible signings for the mega-money Magpies. We also aim to back last week's winning 20/1 treble with a 22/1 shot this time around from Sunday's matches, boosted as ever by our sponsors Bet Victor. "If you hate reading bio's as much as I hate writing them, I'll do us both a favor and try and make this short and painless. I've been playing drums with everyone under the sun for the past 30 yrs. Joined the musicians union when I was 12 to play Top 40 out at Disneyland and then started touring and making records when I was 15. I've appeared on hundreds of records with artists ranging from Michael Buble to Suicidal Tendencies. Nine Inch Nails to Glen Campbell. Sting to The Vandals. A Perfect Circle to Danny Elfman. DEVO to Guns n' Roses. The Replacements to Weezer to…you get the picture. A bunch of fantastic artists and probably twice as many bad ones. I've made some solo records and have co-written songs with Queens Of The Stone Age, Guns n Roses, Sting, The Vandals, A Perfect Circle, Devo, and more. In this series, we will look at different instances that highlight Jesus' pursuit of those many would label as “outcasts.” In each of these situations, Jesus often goes out of His way to reach the outcasts of society. His love is extravagant and relentless. These instances provide examples of action for those who declare they are Christ followers. In this episode, “Just A Minute”, it is never too late to seek repentance, and it is never the wrong time to share the gospel.

Hi Everyone! Welcome back to our second episode!!! In episode 5 of season 2, Adam and Jo talk to comedian Janey Godley, about satire, swearing, and elitism. Janey hit the headlines in 2016 when she held a sign stating that “Trump is a C*nt” during Donald Trump’s visit to the Turnberry Golf Resort, but she’s also been a successful stand-up comedian for over 20 years, as well as a regular on Have I Got News for You and Radio 4’s Just A Minute and the maker of comedy voice-over clips which she posts on Twitter. So – can anyone do satire? Well, one of the three of us in this episode definitely can: the other two try their best. Visit our blog for the full show-notes.

Just A Minute or JAM, is a popular TV show in which the contestants must speak on a particular topic for sixty seconds without hesitation, repetition and deviation. The show's popularity has resulted in a huge fanbase as well as multiple competitions across the globe. JAM is also a powerful exercise tool which can help anyone become a better speaker. The more you practise doing it, the better you become. You are listening to As A Boy Lives podcast hosted by Karun Kris (KK).
Education and inspiration. You need both to keep the words flowing and your writing projects moving forward. Yet finding the balance between how-to-write content and and great writing that inspires you can be tough—should you be reading Stephen King on Writing or Stephen King? Mark and Dan discuss how the balance differs for everyone, and they warn against going down the wormhole of spending too much time learning about writing and not enough time actually writing. Dan raves about the concept and writing behind the text game, Lifeline. And Mark talks about getting his 1-minute film (starring Dan) in a fun Toronto micro-film festival, Just A Minute, Toronto.
#218 Nicholas Parsons - An Alligator Named Daisy. Richard has been dreaming about the Wiggles and one of them has been tweeting him. But is it Emma? Richard’s guest is the showbiz legend, 75 years in the business and no sign of stopping yet, Nicholas Parsons. Although Nicholas is a bit annoyed about some cab based confusion on the way here, he is as masterful and witty on stage as ever, recounting tales of Just A Minute and Sale of the Century, but also talking about working on Clydebank in the 1940s, his film work with Jerry Lewis and an alligator, why he only appeared in on one Carry On film, his work and break up with Arthur Haynes (and who Ed Sullivan thought was best) and dressing up for the Rocky Horror Show. Also working with Rik and Ade on the Comic Strip and how the show must go on even after a blow to the head. But in the new Herring and Parsons double act, who is the straight man and is he getting too many laughs? In this episode, Paul and I discuss short-form improv vs long-form improv. We also chat about Paul's favourite and not-so-favourite Theatresports™ games. I also challenge Paul to try the "Just A Minute" challenge (based on a well-known and long-running British radio show).
It's time to get your pimp on! Your Noodle Pimp on (whatever that means)! This week, Paul takes another magical trip to Eli's "Country Urban Noodle Testlab (Kitchen)" to get a lesson in how to spice up a regular, boring old instant noodle. The results may surprise you. Elsewhere in the world's best economy comedy podcast, there is a full fat edition of "The Price of Shite" that bounces from kitchenware, 70s nostalgia and classic BBC Radio 4 comedy. This is also the episode where Eli thinks podcast content is just saying the names of pop stars he recognises and where Just A Minute becomes an impromptu round of "Don't Get Mad"! PENNIES FROM HEAVEN! IT'S EPISODE 57!Young Phil Cawley grew up in Chapelizod, Dublin and was a little showman since he was knee high to a grass-chopper. He knew from 10 years old he wanted to work in radio and he has certainly made his dreams come true. His first break came after he took part in Larry Gogan's Just A Minute quiz and was soon working for 2FM. Stints in LMFM and DJ-ing all around the country for weddings, events and celebrations eventually saw him find his radio home in Today FM where he has been a ratings success for many years. Always a bright and positive voice on Irish radio, it was great to finally sit down and have a proper chat with Phil having worked alongside him for so many years. I loved talking to him and hearing his back story and I hope you do too. You'll never beat the Cawley! For funsies — and as an homage and/or parody that is impervious to lawsuits (please) — we play a few rounds of Doctor-Who-themed ‘Just A Minute’
RHLSTP #150: Sara Pascoe - Hello, Still a Feminist? Rich details how he considered stealing a man's identity to become a chartered accountant. Perhaps it would have been for the best. But instead he's back for the 150th official episode of the show that the Cool Kids call RHLSTP with one of his all-time favourite guests, Sara Pascoe. She has written a phenomenal book called Animal which you really should buy https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0571325246/comedyguide-21/ for all teenage girls, all teenage boys and everyone else too. There's some pretty serious chat about the chemistry of love, biology, abortion, the future of the world, whether things are getting better or worse and terrible human nature. But it's contemplative and positive and proves that Richard isn't actually the worst man on the planet, plus there's fun stuff about Just A Minute in a brain scanning machine and Sunday Brunch (with surprise guest) and a brilliant new game show where there's guaranteed to be one woman on every week. Plus all the Emergency Questions lead us to serious answers. It's an amazing end to what has surely been the best series of RHLSTP so far. Our patron, Nicholas Parsons has been the host of the BBC Radio 4 panel game Just A Minute since its first broadcast on the 22nd December 1967. He is a show-business legend and we’re delighted to be able to offer you this insightful and funny interview with him. #nicholasparsons #justaminute #Ihaventaclue
Gyles Brandeth the star performer talks at The Oldie Literary Lunch. He is someone who would entertain even if he simply read from the Yellow Pages. Gyles reveals why he is such a scream on BBC Radio 4's Just A Minute: prepare yourself for a linguistic frenzy of palindromes, mnemonics and acronyms. Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett join Pappy's in the last episode of this short but hopefully perfectly formed series. Featuring... grumpiness, cheeriness, two Billies and windmilling. No Repetition, Hesitation or Deviation The much-loved radio show Just a Minute has been delighting listeners for 46 years and every single episode of the programme has been hosted by Nicholas Parsons. Now, Parsons has produced his first book about Britain’s longest-running radio comedy show, and the venerable entertainer joins us today to enjoy some favourite moments and linguistic contortions that have made it such an enduring hit.
Do you remember when Non-Intern Simon had a Wii? And can you remember the ultimate fate of that Wii? Non-Intern Simon doesn't which is why he has now bought a Wii U. Betting is now open for how long that Wii U will be actively used for. The winner will get the chance to throw a sack containing bricks, a Wii U controller (that Ann says is rather nice to touch) and some other 'items' into the canal. This week's Super-Special Guest was the Bionic Man Luke Williams from Bossa Studios (he has had laser eye surgery). He was on the show to talk about his new game I Am Bread and how it is similar to Kim Kardashian's butt. This then caused Ste to get rather existential about raw toast and how it fits in with the world. We found out that I Am Bread was first made during a game jam at Bossa Studios so it could be called a jam sandwich (if you're prepared to give us the benefit of the doubt like Nicholas Parsons on Just A Minute). It's on Steam Early Access now and should be finished early next year. We heard from Sega Badawi and Simon The Intern caught us up with all the gaming news that Ann missed off because she couldn't connect it to Taylor Swift. And we had the welcome return of our Top Five feature, but it might not be so welcome after all the puns Ste made. Sorry. We also learned that Non-Intern Simon scared Ann at night, what magazines Luke used to read in the old days and that Ste has trouble throwing his Vita. Cheerio! Libby Purves meets trumpeter Alison Balsom; Louise Cordingly, daugther of a POW chaplain in Singapore; comedian Paul Merton and cartogragher Jethro Lennox. Alison Balsom is a solo trumpeter. Three-time Classical Brit award winner and Gramophone Artist of the Year, her big break came when she was a concerto finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition in 1998. Last year she appeared at the Globe Theatre, in Gabriel, showcasing the valveless trumpet and featuring the works of Purcell. She is embarking on a UK tour - The Trumpet Sings Tour - and releases a new album, Paris, on Warner Classics. Louise Cordingly is the daughter of Eric Cordingly MBE who as a young chaplain was held as a prisoner of war in the Far East during World War Two. During his years of captivity he wrote a diary which he kept hidden from his captors. When he returned from the Far East in 1945 he worked as rector of Stevenage and chaplain to the Queen. In 1963 he was consecrated Bishop of Thetford. He died in 1976 but it was not until his wife's death 35 years later that his children discovered his papers and published the book, Down to Bedrock, which features his writings and drawings by fellow prisoners. Down to Bedrock is published by Art Angels. Paul Merton is a comedian, actor and presenter. After making his stand-up debut at London's Comedy Store in 1982, he became a regular with the Comedy Store Players, an improvised comedy group, team captain on Have I Got News For You and a regular on BBC Radio 4's Just A Minute. He has also made several documentaries about early cinema, including Paul Merton's Birth of Hollywood. His autobiography, Only When I Laugh, is published by Ebury Press. Jethro Lennox is a cartographer and editor of the new edition of The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World. The atlas contains 320 pages of maps and illustrations and depicts how the world has changed since the previous 2011 edition with 5000 place name changes. The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World is published by HarperCollins. Producer: Paula McGinley.
Episode 30: Comedy Special with Kerry Godliman The Scummy Mummies are 30! In their dreams. Joining us to celebrate our 30th episode is a very special guest - comedian Kerry Godliman, off the telly. Kerry stars in the Ricky Gervais sitcom Derek. She has also appeared in Michael McIntyre's Roadshow, Miranda and most recently on Kevin Bridges: Live at the Referendum. We talk about comedy, fame and what it's like to go on Just A Minute. Kerry discusses her love of camping and why she wishes they served wine at soft play centres. There's some chat about the joy of making lists, and Ellie talks about the time she nearly married Richard Branson's son. We round off with a debate about hospital versus home births, because that's always such a light topic, and of course Scummy Mummy Confessions. And finally, Helen embarrasses herself in front of our guest with a comedy song to end all comedy songs. Hopefully. It's a very exciting week for the Scummy Mummies as we're also launching our LIVE monthly comedy night at The Hob in Forest Hill, south-east London. The first show is on Wednesday 24 September and there are only a few tickets left, so if you want one head over to We Got Tickets. If you do miss out we're doing another show every month, each with brand new jokes, songs and guest comedians. They're on 29 October, 26 November and 17 December. All those dates are Wednesdays and the shows start at 8.30pm. Tickets are a fiver from We Got Tickets. You can find out when Kerry's next gig is via Chortle. She has a website and she's on Twitter: @KerryAGodliman. We're on Twitter too: @scummymummies. We love getting reviews on iTunes and reading your Scummy Mummy Confessions - please send in via Facebook or email scummymummiespodcast@gmail.com. Thanks for listening! Was last week's edition of Radio 4's Profile programme sexist? Some Feedback listeners have accused the programme of just that after a profile of the new Director of Public Prosecutions, Alison Saunders, featured numerous references to her cooking and baking abilities. In this week's Feedback, the Editor of Profile, Richard Knight, defends the programme. Roger Bolton also speaks to Ric Bailey, the BBC's Chief Political Advisor, about the challenges facing the Corporation in the lead up to the Scottish Referendum. How can it ensure impartiality in its coverage? The BBC Trust has launched a 12 week consultation seeking views on the BBC Executive's proposed additional guidelines for reporting on the referendum. Visit the BBC Trust website to find out how you can have your say. Also this week, meet the new generation of Just A Minute panellists who are giving Paul Merton, Sue Perkins, and Graham Norton a run for their money on Radio 4 Extra's Junior Just a Minute. And a radio fan digs out a rare edition of Feedback from almost exactly thirty years ago and finds an unexpectedly topical item about Radio 4 continuity announcer Susan Rae. Producer: Will Yates A Whistledown production for BBC Radio 4.
Welcome back to Battle Gods Of Pod, the panel game show on the Geek Syndicate Network that pits a panoply of podcasters against each other in various tests of verbosity, inspiration, knowledge and wit. Joining us this time are Matt Farr, from Dissecting Worlds, Tim Swann from Tim And Max Solve All The Problems With Popular Culture, and Stace Whittle from Small Press, Big Mouth. We start things off with News Testaments - a variation on the Just A Minute format - before our divergent deities start Speaking In Tongues in a round table debate on the Dr Who the Anniversary We then move on to Revelations, our hidden gems round, before Gotterdammerung begins. The 'quick'-fire quiz will see all the Gods fall in Sudden Death, but who will be the last god standing? They will join us once again in the New Year final, up against the other two winners... If you want to track down the hidden gems, here are some good starting places: - Acts of Caine Gamma World OpenTyrian The Dark Third Psycomedia Tim and the Hidden People Berlin Prospero's Children Card Hunters Lego CUUSOO Atomic Robo Sir You Are Being Hunted Battle Gods of Pod is seeking a host for Series 2. If you think you'd be up for the challenge, drop us a line at scrolls@hotmail.co.uk and we'll talk details. Finally, we want to tip the hat to the seemingly anonymous contributors on http://www.soundboard.com/ for the sound effects used this episode. In case you're interested, the effects were Llama Sound Clip 7, Cookie Monster Soundboard Om nom nom nom, and The Classic Wilhelm Scream 1. Pam Ayres has been a writer, broadcaster and entertainer for over 35 years. It was November 1975 when Pam made her first TV appearance on the TV talent show, Opportunity Knocks, the “Britain’s Got Talent” TV show of its day, and this proved to be the start of an incredible career for a unique entertainer. Since 1975 Pam Ayres has sold many millions of books, record albums, CDs, and DVDs. For the past fifteen years Pam has been a regular on BBC Radio. From 1996 until 1999 Pam presented a two-hour music and chat show every Sunday afternoon for Radio 2, followed by two series of Pam Ayres’ Open Road. More recently Pam has become a regular contributor to Radio 4, on such programmes as Just A Minute, Quote Unquote, Loose Ends, and three series of her own Ayres On The Air. Pam Ayres brings her latest show to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre in January 2014. Pam Ayres’ work is funny, and approachable. It sounds simple, as though dashed off, but this is deceptive. Her hair-trigger timing, her eye for the detail of everyday life, and for the absurdity therein, makes for an art that hides art.
Late? What do you mean, late? We've been here for ages, honest! (Okay, it's a fair cop - but better late than never, eh?) Once again the Geek Syndicate Network presents our annual array of panel games and silly banter. The First Lady of Scrolls starts things off with her version of Just A Minute, in which the contestants struggle to speak on a given topic without deviation, hesitation or repetition. Clover's subjects range from grumpy dragons to horny time-travellers, while the clock ticks ever downwards. You can practically hear the sweat. Next up is newcomer Tim Swann with Pointless, in which the contestants vie to find the most obscure but accurate answers. For folk unfamiliar with the quiz show, think Family Fortunes in reverse. Under the microscope are Firefly, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars. but what everybody really wants to know is how did Tim managed to split his brain in two? We follow up with chameleonic truths and outrageous lies as Dion chairs the classic game of Call My Bluff. Each contestant presents three definitions of a word or phrase related to film, tv, radio, book, comic, or game. Their opponents must ask them questions and try to work out the facts from the fibs. Technical difficulties hit us at this point, but we've preserved most of the show. Finally, Matt Farr (the otherwise genial Grampus) dons his alter-ego as Lord Alan Sidious, weeding out the wastrels in his sour-faced search for the next Sith Apprentice. The contestants each take on the role of a villain from anywhere in space and time, pitching their plans for domination to Lord Alan. Who will impress the Enterprising Emperor and who will be summarily executed? We lost Mr Ambler's game of Geeking Talk to gremlins, but two hours ought to be enough for you all. So, grab some nibbles, pop your party hat on and help us drain the last dregs of Christmas spirit as Dissecting Scrolls Solves Christmas! [Musical snatches come from Eddie Reader's album The Songs Of Robert Burns. I think she's fab. You should buy all her stuff.] Stay In Touch. You can follow most of the contestants on Twitter under the following monikers @thegrampus @Dion_Scrolls @Phlambler @tetrarchangel What do Points make? Prizes! Sadly, we have no faith in our scoring systems, so the decision is YOURS. Tell us who you think THE WINNER is. You have until the end of January to get your votes in as to who is the Overall Winner. For impartiality, e-mail scrolls@hotmail.co.uk with the subject heading 'Dissecting Scrolls Champion.' Tell us who you think deserves the bragging rights, and why. A voter will be chosen at random to win a prize. Deadline is 11:59 GMT Jan 31st 2013.

In a somnambulistic, rather long one hundred and second episode of Rum Doings, we don't discuss whether it's time to stop not discussing things. Nick and John still find the effort the argue despite the late hour. Beginning with Galloway, things naturally quickly switch to Just A Minute and Indian politics. And then back to British politics, and the current trend for pretending to like Islam. We enjoy some splendid lemony booze from the lovely Ed Stern, argue over what age people become humans, ponder the last time we listened to a CD, tape cassette or VHS tape. We are old. John discussed the Mountain Goats/Anonymous 4 gig he'd recently seen, we question the possibility of monitoring everyone's emails, and then things get a little heated as we consider the strip club. Nick recalls when John was on the receiving end of some sexual attention, discuss Enid Blyton again, and Nick tells us about the evening his stomach went on holiday. Then we get uncharacteristically serious and talk about anorexia and bulimia. Then things return to normal as we talk about the uselessness of pandas.
Oh for fuck's sake. I've genuinely no idea what we've just talked about. Does anyone read this anyway? Something about Just A Minute. Most likely something about Gaddafi. Probably some bullshit about the dissolution of the world economy. Did we mention Paul's clothes? Yes. Yes we did.
James O'Brien is joined by Australian comic Sarah Kendall, Cutting Edge regular Steve Gribbin, Just A Minute regular Chris Neill, and New Statesman journalist Helen Lewis-Hasteley.
The wait is over. The time is now.The Teen-Titans of the Geek Syndicate Network have come together in a bumper sized two-part special of podcasty goodness. Celebrating the Christmas holiday in traditional fashion the Troublesome Twosome from Dissecting Worlds and the Questionable Quartet from Scrolls cast off all pretense of being rational people, get drunk and play stupid party games. A little too much is revealed about some, more questions are raised about others and at least one fabulous song is brutally murdered before your horrified ears.Skits, Christmas messages, insults from a famous guest-host and limericks from an actual fan round off the VERY BESTChristmas Crossover special on the GSN that we have ever made, EVER (or your money back).Apologies in advance to the makers of Just A Minute, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Mornington Crescent for the outrages we have committed in Part 1 - I'll let Kehaar do the grovelling for Part 2.Here are some made up quotes from some real people -'All my christmas wishes just came true. I particularly liked Saruman's letter to Santa.' (C. Lee)'Imagine taking something you really like and, and adding something else you really like to it, and mixing them up all together and then WHOP! dollopping them out onto two plates. Well that's like this innit. But in your ears.' (J. Oliver)'It's like, the best idea ever dude.' (K. Reeves)'Laugh? I nearly shat!' (W. Shatner)'It's the worst idea in history.' (S. Schama)
The castaway in Desert Island Discs this week is Paul Merton. He'll be talking to Sue Lawley about his enduring but secret ambition to be a comedian and the feeling he's had throughout his life that he would always make it somehow. He'll be describing his painful beginnings at London's Comedy Store, and his graduation from there to radio and television, where he now has his own series on Channel 4, as well as appearing on Radio Four's Just A Minute and I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and being part of the regular team of BBC2's Have I Got News For You?[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs] Favourite track: Spreading by Kronos Quartet Book: Buster Keaton Biography by Rudi Blesh Luxury: Bed
