Sime folks have been wondering what happened to AppTT. Danny explains the somewhat new direction that AppTT will be taking, and how exciting these changes will be. Appalachian Table Tales is brought to you by Erik Hubbard, Executive Director of Backroads of Appalachia and Americorps VISTA, as well as Danny Potter, Owner and host of the What's up World Podcast. Danny is the Digital Storytelling Coordinator for Americorps and Appalachian Table Tales is a spin off series of the wildly popular What's up World Podcast. In these episodes Danny highlights the underdog, and far too often forgotten Appalachian spirit that helped mold America into what it is today. With the help of Erik Hubbard and Americorps, these episodes bring you tales from the hills and hollers of rural America with emphasis on the roots of Appalachia. These stories are unfiltered and unedited to bring you the most raw and purest form of Appalachian culture and heritage possible. Please join us in recalling stories of the past and we do hope you enjoy them.

Author of Table Tales: The Global Nomad Cuisine of Abu Dhabi, Hanan Sayed Worrell loves to bring people together to tell their stories over food, and the lockdown hasn’t stopped her from doing just that. During the pandemic she launched “The Distant Social Dinner Society” where guests get together for a dinner party over zoom, with the concept evolving in Ramadan to become Iftar from Afar. She created this in collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi Professor Jonathan Shannon, and they actually modeled the idea on Boccaccio’s Decameron, in which ten Florentines fled to the hills to escape the ravages of the plague in 1348, each of them telling stories over the course of their 10 day “sheltering in place,” and in the same way, the Table Tales Distant Social Dinner Society consists of ten diners sharing a virtual meal, telling stories of and about food and community. Sally was guest at this week’s Iftar from Afar, along with a diverse group of people who were invited to break bread virtually, including Asma Sedeeq Al Mutawa, the founder of the Multaqa Cultural Salon, CNN’s John Defterios, and two professors from the American University of Sharjah who are originally from China, Professors Shaojin Chai and Yuting Wang, who is the author of Between Islam and the American Dream: An Immigrant Muslim Community in Post-9/11 America. With cuisine from all over the world including Indonesia, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Sudan and more, find out what each guest shared at the virtual Iftar table! Murphy and I gear up for another visit to Monster of the Week by analyzing the Expert Playbook move Preparedness. This move represents the Expert's vast knowledge and stockpile of gear, trinkets, and artifacts and mechanically lets the player access them when it's needed most. This move also can completely reroute the narrative if the one item the party desperately needs is in a complicated location, requiring a diversion of their attention. We also talk about how the GM and player can work together to make sure this move is used in the proper spirit of the game. I started a new job that has somewhat of a demanding schedule and by demanding I mean just not the hours my dumbass is used to. So I completely biffed this release. Was supposed to be out and it didn't render. Then my laptop was stuck in an endless loop of updating. And right now I have no internet proper, so I'm logged into Xfinity WiFi trying, hoping it lets me upload this fucking episode, to release it. So typing this now as my melatonin kicks in is like I'm laughing defiantly in God's face as he pulls me down into the firey brimstone. I'm clawing my way back up. What's the episode about? I don't know, fuck around and listen to it. Of course it's good. Eric Lee and I break down the move Detachable Body Parts from the Constructed playbook in Monster of the Week. We talk about how deceptively simple the mechanics of this move are but how out of hand (or arm, or leg) this can get narratively. The Leather Daggers start to get to the bottom of this static guard-ing the town of Sentry. We are all back as a well-organized, well oiled unit. Okay, it is a bit echoy. Sure. That we're gonna work on once your boys are a bit less busy and a bit less poor, we're gonna be sounding good and really rolling better. That being said, The Leather Daddies are making their rounds and start talking to Father Jeremiah and start to piece some things together about whats going on. They then share some war stories with General G. D. Leo Esq. and that's when things really start cooking on this week's TABLE TALES! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. Just as a warning, this episode might sound off. Halfway through recording, mine and Murphy's half literally stopped recording without any reason or notification. So we had to rerecord the back half of this episode! Which explains why there's some weirdness and dramatic irony, I guess, with our choices the second time. I know this is a month of straight mess ups but truly, we're trying to get back on track! The Leather Daddies have gotten themselves into a bit of a classic Mole Situation and are hired by Keith, the mayor of a town called Sentry, figure out why they have been surrounded by a static, TV Screen like dome around the town. They then pop over to the jail and talk to an outsider, and who knows how much good they actually do there! Enjoy the third, and last, episode of the Great Internet Mix Up of 2018. This week, Balor gets an answer to the question he asked of the Golden Statue Man, and not one he wanted. Abel employs his knives, Alice starts to show some growth (character that is! He short as shit!), and Dodgson pulls a Michael Jackson by putting on one glove and rising to the top! The Leather Daggers have gotten themselves into a bit of a pickle this time. While trying to escape from their would be captors, they all fall into a deep, deep slumber. While there, they confront some demons. When they awake, they find out their cars are broken and must travel to a new town named Cinus, for parts. The only problem is, this town is nothing but garbage and ash. Let's hope they don't run into any problems on the way there, SIKE, they definitely do! This week The Leather Daggers have their backs up against the wall. They start to make an escape from the walled in town of Jericho. Some tussles happen. A friend of Abel's arrives just in time. Important items are lost, but more important connections are made. This week the boys well I won't sugar coat it for you, we pretty much get out of goddamn control pretty quick and make a lot of jokes. To start off enjoy the beginning of a new podcast before Table Tales takes way. But then, things really get moving. Old faces are seen, a huge new level skip and glitch is found, and then we get to the nitty gritty of things. Strap in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. In this week's episode the boys continue their descent through Hell to snag items off of a little laundry list and then hopefully take down Lou and The Davisons. On the way, Simon finds himself at home, Balor gets tea bagged, and Chuck has a Marvel Movie Moment to save the day, all on this week's Table Tales! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. In this week's episode the boys finish getting acclimated with their powers and make some decisions that "don't matter", they are introduced to a new case and also...someone's been poisoned. Enjoy what is assuredly our dumbest and somehow funniest episode yet. Chuck gets in touch with some realtives, Simmon interrogates one of his students and gets repeatedly dunked on while Balor gets crossed over and his ankles are broken. But don't worry. The boys open up a can, or should I say large vat, of magical whoop ass. All on this week's Table Tales. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. For once, consequences are laid down for the boys. Thomas went through a real tough time trying to lay out plans for them and the only thing that seemed to make sense was to punish them (kinda). Simmon, Balor, and Chuck all run into people from their pasts and reflect on who've they have become. Arrests are made, some resisted and some resisted even harder. This week the boys take a slight pit stop into another world to take a peek at what could happen if they don't do their due diligence. They meet a friend's sister and meet a familiar, but not too familiar, face all on this week's TABLE TALES. (Doesn't that look cool, huh?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. This week the boys make some startling revelations after they ask a friend of theirs' nine thousand questions, they make some phone calls that are painstakingly edited and underappriciated, and then a couple other plot points sprout out of the ground magically. Can our heroes and the DM manage to weave through them? Find out this, and next, week on Table Tales! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. Radaptation will return next week! We took a holiday break this week so instead here's an episode of our new show! It's called Table Tales and it's an actual play podcast that we've been recording since before Halloween.
