Someone in Kentucky mistakenly received a package filled with arms and fingers. Musician/actress, Lily Allen, gave out butt plugs at her album launch party. This of course gave Connery DeHuff an idea for pod merch. The artist who duct-taped a banana to a wall and sold it for millions, is now selling his $10M solid gold toilet. The Denver Broncos refuse to quit, as they pull off their sixth win in a row, beating the Houston Texans. The Bengals are falling apart, starting with its defense. Chase Brown ripped them to the media. Paxton Lynch signed with the Colorado Spartans arena football team. We hear from Paxton the Pirate. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Quinn unpacks how the nervous system asks one question all day—Am I safe?—and why fight/flight/freeze/fawn are wise survival patterns (not personal failures). You'll learn fast, gentle regulation tools (physiological sigh, orienting, butterfly hug, vagal ā€œvooā€/humming), see them in action via pop-culture and literature examples, and leave with a 7-day plan to widen your window of tolerance. The aim: move from bracing for impact to breathing easier—then building a calmer, safer life you actually enjoy living in.What You'll LearnEmbodiment = biology: Your body is a home to be tended, not a problem to fix (Hillary McBride).Survival patterns are smart: Fight/flight/freeze/fawn kept you safe; now we teach your body new safety.Complete the stress cycle: Don't power through—release (Levine): breathe, shake, sigh, settle.Co-regulation matters: Calm spreads person-to-person (think Ted Lasso).Fast Practices (Try Today)Physiological sigh (20–30s): Inhale → tiny top-up inhale → long slow exhale (2–3x).Orienting (30–60s): Turn head, name 5 things you see, 4 touch, 3 hear, 2 smell, 1 taste.Butterfly hug (60s): Cross arms, alternate taps L/R while breathing slowly.Vagal ā€œvooā€ or hum (45s): Inhale, long chest-vibrating ā€œvooā€ (or hum) 2–3x.Pop Culture & Lit MirrorsInside Out 2: Anxiety tries to control everything → name it, breathe, integrate (not exile).Ted Lasso: Panic softens via breath + safe people (co-regulation).The Bear: Unfinished cycles = alarms (tight jaw, shallow breath); the body keeps score.Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God: Janie's embodied ā€œyes/noā€ as sovereignty.Mary Oliver, ā€œWild Geeseā€: ā€œLet the soft animal of your body love what it loves.ā€Mini Playbook for Divorced LifeText from ex detonates: 1 physiological sigh + orient; reply later from safety.First date freeze: Bathroom → butterfly hug 60s → decide from regulation.Co-parenting flare: Hand to heart + ā€œvooā€ twice → This is my boundary.Ā Lonely Saturday: 5-minute sensory walk → call a safe friend/pet time.7-Day Nervous System PlanMorning (1 min): Physiological sigh Ɨ3 or butterfly hug.Mid-day (30s): Orienting—name 5 things you see.Evening (2 min): Gentle shake-out + humming/ā€œvoo.ā€Connection (3 min): Text/call a safe friend or sit quietly with a pet.Boundary rep (one line): ā€œI'll need to think about that and get back to you.ā€Quotableā€œOur bodies are not problems to be solved; they are homes to be tended.ā€ — Hillary McBrideā€œTrauma isn't in the event, it's in the nervous system.ā€ — inspired by Peter Levineā€œYou only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.ā€ — Mary OliverResources MentionedHillary McBride — The Wisdom of Your BodyPeter Levine — Waking the Tiger (Somatic Experiencing)Deirdre Fay — Becoming Safely EmbodiedContent NoteMentions of religious conditioning, sexual coercion, panic/anxiety. Breaking these rules puts civil order at risk. And while murder is the Big Daddy of crimes, codified ordinances across municipal divisions, counties, states, and countries show the nearly endless ways there are to create mayhem. This season, we put our detective skills to the test. This is Season 8, Anything but Murder. This is Episode 19, Body Snatching is the featured crime. This is Have You Seen This Body? by TG WolffAbout body snatchingResurrection Men, aka Body Snatchers, practiced their illegal trade in the mid-to-late 1800s. This was the period when medical training was expanding and so was the need for cadavers for students to learn on. Body Snatchers stole bodies from fresh graves and so them to medical schools or instructors. The trade went by the wayside as states passed Anatomy Acts or Bone Bills that allowed medical schools to legally acquire unclaimed bodies and also allowed people to donate their bodies. From congressional cemetery.org comes the story of Resurrection Man Dr. George Christian. On the night of December 12th, 1873, police officers noticed a suspicious carriage sitting at Washington Circle, Washington DC. After midnight, an officer approached the woman sitting inside and she explained she was waiting for her husband who was conducting business. Later, they saw one man approach the buggy and place a spade inside. Then another man appeared and placed a muddy shovel inside before the three set off towards New Hampshire Avenue and Boundary Street. The officers pursued them, suspecting they must have stolen goods on board but instead found grave robbing tools. Officers investigated nearby Holmead Cemetery and found the body of Thomas Fletcher inside a large canvas bag near the fence. The night of Dr. Christian's arrest, a diary was found inside the carriage along with the grave robbing tools, illustrating the extent of his resurrectionist business. Excerpts from this diary were published in the newspapers and later used at his trial. Christian had arrangements with doctors at Washington Asylum and the Almshouses where patients often died penniless and sometimes without family for records of their dying. These were potential victims for him to later dig up at the city's potter's fields, where the impoverished were buried in unmarked graves. Notes in his diary describe various doctors going out resurrecting with him or sending janitors and hospital stewards out with him as assistants. One local doctor offered Christian and his partner $15 each per body.In addition to supplying nearby medical schools with cadavers, Christian corresponded with doctors at schools in Virginia, Michigan, and Ohio. Their letters spoke of the best ways to pack bodies in whiskey barrels and prices per cadaver. One Michigan doctor wrote that he'd pay Christian $25 per body but then sell the bodies to the students for $40. ($25 in 1873 is worth $635.64 today.)
