With his amazing new book, FEH: A Memoir (Riverside Books), Shalom Auslander explores how the judgmental disgust of FEH infected his life, and what it meant to get sick & tired of the disgust and outrage FEH-stival and look for a way out. We talk about the sense of shame, disgust and self-loathing at the core of our common story, why every bookstore should be called, 'You Suck', his friendship with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and how they bonded over FEH, and how hard he's worked to find the un-FEH for his kids. We get into how story is our operating system (but what happens when there are bugs in the OS?), how the FEH machine came after his psychiatrist, the notion of misotheism, and his video series UNGODLY where he reads the Bible and asks, 'What if God is the antagonist?'. We also discuss his ultra-orthodox upbringing, how "Jewish heritage" has been subsumed by Holocaust memorials, his antipathy toward the pop-culture Anne Frank and how he rewrote her for HOPE: A Tragedy, his time in the advertising industry and how it led to his TV show Happyish, his bleak Peanuts parody strip that got Jeannie Schulz's approval, the neurological condition where blind people believe they can see and how it parallels our existential state of FEH, the realization that cynicism doesn't mean you're smart (just lazy), and a lot more. Many of us will have feelings of not belonging at some point in our life.  Maybe it is at work, maybe it is in our neighbourhood, maybe it's even within our friend group. Wanting to belong and be part of a community is natural and so often we put on a facade or hide our true selves in order to be accepted. However, while the facade can feel like a protective armour - it is a heavy burden.  The effort required to maintain the facade can result in heightened anxiety and fatigue.  In this episode Rachelle opens up and shares her feelings of not belonging because of being biracial. Eventually the fatigue of trying to keep up a facade and pretend to be something that wasn't true to her caused an emotional breakdown.  But that breakdown eventually led to a deeper understanding of herself. By the end of this podcast you will have concrete steps that you can take in order to start the process of reconnecting with your true self and start the process of creating a life that you truly love and where you don't have to pretend anymore. The workbook Rachelle mentioned was Danielle La Porte's Fire Starter Sessions.  You can find it here: https://shop.daniellelaporte.com/pages/fire-starter-sessionsYou can find out more about Rachelle and the work she does:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rachelleharelcoaching Website: www.rachelleharel.com Happyish listeners get 15% off when you let her know you found her through Happyish As always you can connect with me in a variety of ways!!!Instagram https://www.instagram.com/tatianarobertsonofficial Website: www.tatianarobertson.com Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/TatianasWellnessPage Private Facebook Group for Happyish Pod Squad Crew: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1902004553313858/

Tsilala Brock is letting life thrill her, though she originally had trouble with coming to terms with her multi-hyphenate identity. Her journey was calling upon skills and proficiencies that she didn't necessarily study in college. Why do we feel guilt when moving away from our past? Yet Tsilala would experience her multi-hyphenate mindset and would help her on the national tour of Book of Mormon, as she was both a dance captain and swing. But how would her experience with Book of Mormon help Tsilala become a fully flushed out and inspired multi-hyphenate? In this episode, we discuss the importance of discipline, rest, and listening to our bodies. Tsilala has become a consummate multi-hyphenate and lives by the guideline of “the life that you want is on the other side of discipline.” While Tsilala is producing a podcast, and writing JuneBug the Musical - she often has to pay attention to health, exhaustion, and mental capacity. Thankfully, she has found small ways we all can implement rest into our daily practices - even if they don't seem like restful actions.  What do you do for yourself? How do you implement rest into your life? Just as much as it's important to be active in your artform, it's just as important to rest - especially in these overstimulation times. Tune in to this extremely powerful and inspirational episode that will get you invigorated to implement rest into your daily practice.  Tsilala recently completed a two year position as Assistant Dance Captain/Swing with The Book of Mormon 2nd National Tour. Currently she's producing and co hosting a new podcast called 'UNCK! Getting comfortable with uncomfortable conversations' which was recently awarded a grant from the Adobe Community Residency Fund. Other theater credits include: Parable of the Sower (The Public Theater/ NYU Abu Dhabi/ Singapore International Festival of the Arts), Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Swing (Cincinnati Playhouse/STLRep), The Color Purple (Troika Bermuda), and Twelfth Night (Martha's Vineyard Playhouse). TV/Film credits: Mysteries of Laura, Happyish, Broad City, Canaries (indie film - Boston Sci Fest) and Bushwick Beats (indie film).  Visit www.Tsilala.com  Her podcast UNCK! hosts uncomfortable conversations using the UNCK! It's all over as far as our run at the title is concerned, but there is still much to play for in the final two games of the season. We let off some steam from the match at Chelsea and chat about what this team learned from playing such a match. We look at the 2010/2011 Purple away shirt, and Shoot! back in time with a look at the Football landscape from the pages of SHOOT! magazine Dec 1982. Recommendations include Happyish, Better call saul, 11.22.63, Vinyl and Daredevil season 2. I know ... we are all disappointed, but lets get behind the team as we look to cement 2nd spot against Soton this week.Lets finish off strong! COYS!!!!!
