My guest is a repeat guest, which is a first for the Better Sex Podcast! His name is Matthias Rose and he is a Tantric teacher and healer. Matthias operates his practice out of Seattle and loves to connect couples through the power of Tantra. In this episode though, he explores the power of “ejaculatory choice”. This is the concept that men can be in control of their ejaculation and learn to orgasm without ejaculation. By riding what he calls orgasmic waves, men can slow down their experiences, ramp up their connection and intimacy with their partner, and overall just let go and experience sex in a healthy, care-free, powerful way. Listen in for much more on this powerful practice. The Benefits of ‘Ejaculatory Choice’ Matthias says that rewording the phrase “ejaculatory control” to “ejaculatory choice” is a much more accurate and healthy representation for men. The benefits are many, and can extend to covering premature and retarded ejaculation. Ejaculatory choice is also beneficial for those with erectile dysfunction. The Difference Between Ejaculation and Orgasm Matthias says that when he is paying attention to internal experiences, arousal, and physical stimuli, the act of ejaculation doesn’t necessarily coincide with orgasm. Usually, orgasm and ejaculation happen close together, but they are not the same thing. And so, as he states, you can have the orgasmic experiences without ejaculation. Because they are separate, you can practice ejaculatory choice and forego ejaculation to experience the waves and sensations of orgasm. Multiple Orgasms and Greater Intimacy Apart from being able to separate ejaculation and orgasm and thus achieve multiple orgasms with practice, ejaculatory choice also means greater intimacy with your partner. It can lead to an exploration and a ‘playing’ in orgasmic waves that naturally stokes the embers of passion. And overall, being present and thoughtful and fully engaged with your ejaculation choice leads to more thoughtful, intimate sex. He says that once sex is approached from a more open-ended way, there is greater potential for felt connection and overall better sex. Ejaculation Obstacles and Techniques for Resolution Matthias says that rapid ejaculation is more common than delayed ejaculation. He says that his approach is to let go of the ‘why’ when talking about ejacluation. His approach is less analytical and more practical in the sense that he introduces techniques for resolving the ejaculatory issue. He says that getting rid of the usual anxious thoughts and distractions is key. He also tries to bring conscious attention to the physical sensations. And within that consciousness comes a shifting of the body’s automatic path to climaxing. The Power of Breathing Mathias says that deep, calming breaths are important for curbing the urge to ejaculate. You can self-regulate in this way if you are feeling the intensity ramp up. He also says that you look at breathing as a way of moving energy away from the penis and upwards into the body, this can give you a lot more control over your ejaculation. This practice de-escalates the need to ejaculate and makes for more pleasurable sex. It is also directly applicable to females as well. This breathing technique opens the door for more relaxation, which by extension leads to better sex. This is diametrically opposed to the tensing and clenching techniques often used to delay ejaculation, which leads to loss of energy and doesn’t give the benefits of ejaculation control. As he says, most men who practice slowing down and doing the deep breathing find that after the initial climax builds and the male successfully slows down and avoids ejaculation, the brain understands that you are not wanting to ejaculate. Most men report having a few more minutes of free play until it builds back up again. In short, you build up the potential to ride orgasmic waves as you continually build up the delayed climaxes. Did you miss this incredible episode with Men's Health Advocate, Catherine Lyell? While we're away for the next two weeks, take this time to aquaint yourself with some of our earlier episodes including this powerful goldmine that originally aired as episode 5, back in June 2019. We all understand that porn, and the porn industry, creates a lot of negative messages around sex and women, but how many of us really take a moment to understand or realize the negative impacts porn has on our boys and men? With research showing that the average age of boys being introduced to porn is 11years old and that 93% of men under 18 years have watched porn, shouldn’t we be concerned with the effects porn has on males? Watching porn is happening earlier than it ever used to, and it’s more hardcore and accessible than it ever used to be, especially as most boys have easy access to mobile phones, iPads, and other devices. Studies and articles state a direct correlation between the watching of porn and erectile dysfunction, anxiety, depression, and even suicide. In a world where pornography is not going to disappear any time soon, it is imperative that as adults and parents we step up and increase the conversation around porn with our loved ones and even our children. Who Is Catherine Lyell, Anyway? Meet Catherine Lyell, from Integrated Men’s Health, who is a Men's Health and Porn Addiction Specialist based in Melbourne, Australia. Catherine helps men regain control and confidence with their sexual habits and behaviors, so they can find peace and solutions around relationships and intimacy. Catherine assists men to gain relief from unspeakable shames, trauma, dysfunction, serious health issues and more and specializes in depression, anxiety, porn addiction, and sexual health. Catherine is a Kinesiologist, Intuitive Healer, Psychospiritual Therapist, Tantric Healer, Massage Therapist, Mentor, Trainer, Life Coach, and Author. Support Catherine and Her Work: Catherine Lyell has just launched her new book “What No One Told You About Pornography”, aimed at teens and young men, as well as all men, women, practitioners, sports clubs, teachers and parents. “The Uncensored Threat” is a much needed educational program Catherine is working on to educate teens in schools, universities, and sports clubs. If you would love to support Catherine in her funding to get this program out there, so please head over and check it out here. As a special bonus to our listeners, Catherine is offering our audience two incredible free exercises. The first is the “Two Week Masturbation Challenge - Learn the art of conscious self-pleasure”, that you can access here. And you can email Catherine, integratedmenshealth@outlook.com to receive the Couples Intimacy Exercise called “How the fuck did we end up here?”.
My guest on this weeks HER Conversations is Tantric Healer, Energy Alignment Coach and Speaker, Kerry O’Sullivan. Using these healing modalities, she guides clients to release traumatic blocks and reconnect with their sexual energy. During our conversation, we both share our personal experiences around sexual abuse. Kerry defines tantra and tells how it facilitated her healing. And she speaks about the changes she would like to see in sex education for children and what she believes is the best age to start. Find out more about Kerry https://www.holistickerry.co.uk

I give a lot of thought to what makes a great sex life. What makes us sex life healthy, what makes it enjoyable for people, what makes it fulfilling? When I consider the kinds of things that matter, I think about the ability to slow down and be present in the moment. I think about the ability to tune into your body and to know what you want in that moment. Not just abstractly, like if I asked you at breakfast what you wanted for dinner, but what do you want right now? It's equally important to know what you don't want. Not just knowing what your boundaries are, but also how do you recognize what is making you uncomfortable or that something isn't pleasing right now? And then how do you speak up about that? It's crucial that you're able to communicate with a partner in order to ask for what you want (and to speak up about what you don't) to negotiate and collaborate with them. Another important aspect of better sex is the ability to enjoy the journey. So, instead of being goal oriented or focused on performance or on an outcome, to have better sex, you've got to just enjoy what you're doing in the moment with the partner. You're fully present. You're not in a hurry. There's no test that you pass or fail at the end of it. Those are critical components of good sex. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a good starting point for what I work with people to accomplish in their intimate lives. There are a lot of professions that help people with this. So, while I do this as a sex therapist, other mental health counselors work with people around some of these issues. Massage practitioners are working with people around touch and just being in their body. I had an earlier episode of Better Sex with a Tantric Healer who's explicitly working with people around what they want, communicating consent, boundaries, and presence. And it turns out I've learned about a new profession, or at least new to me, of people that that help with these issues and skills. I met Anna Joy Reedy, who is my guest today, through a colleague, and I was really struck by how warm and sincere she is. As we talked about what she does, I was fascinated, so I invited her on the show. She is a professional Cuddlist. She has a philosophy degree that she's put to use as an entrepreneur, and she is enthusiastically pioneering this new frontier of touch therapy as a Cuddlist. This is something she's fascinated by and really moved to share with people. She's really interested in all things somatic and she told me she's got lots of, "not yet birthed writings" in the works too. She's got a lot to share and I'm just delighted that she's on the show with me today. We talk about what a professional cuddler does and what you can expect in a session. We also answer the question, "Is it ever sexual?" and cover safety concerns. And, most importantly we talk about the healing power of platonic touch. Proven to help reduce chronic pain and depression, while boosting immunity and enhancing mood, platonic touch and cuddling can positively impact overall wellness. Much like yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, professional therapeutic touch is healing and transformative. It's crucial that you're able to communicate with a partner in order to ask for what you want (and to speak up about what you don't) to negotiate and collaborate with them.Another important aspect of better sex is the ability to enjoy the journey. So, instead of being goal oriented or focused on performance or on an outcome, to have better sex, you've got to just enjoy what you're doing in the moment with the partner. You're fully present. It can be extremely hard to get out of your own head. People get distracted by their to-do list, by stresses of life, what they must do for work. They're distracted by concerns that are keeping them up at 4:00 in the morning. A lot of people, even if they aren't distracted, are so used to thinking and analyzing, it's called being up in your head instead of in your body. And the ability to drop into your body and be present and feel what you're feeling and be in the moment it's important. And it's certainly important in sex and in connecting with a partner. There are practices like mindfulness, which is popular, learning to meditate, learning to get into your body, learning to let go of thoughts. Those are powerful. But another thing along those lines is Tantric practice. Most of us think about Tantra as some sort of mysterious sexual training or activity but it's really about getting out of your mind and into your body and into the moment and connecting intimately with yourself and with other people.Tantric practitioner and teacher Matthias Rose has a wealth of knowledge and experience and a passion for sharing this with people. He and his wife Pandora Rose sort of discovered Tantra on their own. They kind of tripped into it having sort of mystical experiences with each other and their own sexual relationship. And from there it opened their eyes to "where is this coming from, how do we learn more about this?"He went on to learn a lot about Tantra and get more formal training in it. He's based in Seattle and he offers events and workshops. He's got a community space and he does private coaching and healing sessions with people and he agreed to be on the show today.During this delightful conversation, we talk about the history of Tantra and clear up some common misconceptions surrounding its association with sex and yoga. Matthias informs us what to look for in a Tantric Healer and Practitioner. We also cover some easy exercises you can use to begin to incorporate the healing power of Tantra in your life today and so much more.Matthias believes Tantra can bring rapid transformation to sexual intimacy, emotional connection, and any major stumbling blocks in life.More information:http://matthias-rose.com/http://moksha-tantra.orgSome useful articles:How to find a Tantric Healer: https://medium.com/@matthiasrose/how-to-find-a-tantric-healer-8b2dd2b29c1aTantric Bill of Rights: https://medium.com/@matthiasrose/a-tantric-bill-of-rights-f0af021b1c1eThe Heart of Tantra: https://medium.com/@matthiasrose/the-heart-of-tantra-2fbfca187e45The Origins of Tantra: https://medium.com/@matthiasrose/the-origins-of-tantra-acc4334638e9More info:Web - https://www.bettersexpodcast.com/Sex Health Quiz - http://sexhealthquiz.com/If you’re enjoying the podcast and want to be a part of making sure it continues in the future, consider being a patron.
