Alistair Brownlee is a 2 x Olympic Gold Medalist, 4 x World Champion, 4 x European Champion and Commonweath Games Gold Medalist. He is the most dominant Short Course Triathlete the world has ever seen. No one in the sport of triathlon has ever put in the level of performances Alistair Brownlee did at his peak. He's also moved to long course and been a 2 x Ironman 70.3 World Champion and multiple Ironman Champion. We talk about what training Alistair was doing leading into both of his Olympic Gold medal winning races, his training philosophies including the importance of aerobic training, high volume & consistency to success. And as always there's the exact breakdown of what does a typical Monday -> Sunday training week look like for him. We go into some classic Alistair Brownlee stories, talk about the year ahead and how Alistair plans to win the Ironman World Championships. ** Sign up to PATREON to support the show (for only $2 AUD/$1 USD per week it is the only reason the show is still going. It's the 1.21 gigawatts that's relevant [Doc Brown at the Clock Tower?] We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk I was walking past the old clock tower that used to be part of Macclesfield hospital the other day. A quick Google tells me it got turned into it's current format of flats in 2011. As you can see from the attached image, it has some scaffolding up at the moment. I posted this picture on my Facebook profile with the comment “Anyone else see this and think someone's setting up to harness 1.21 gigawatts?” A reference, in case you didn't know, to the film Back To The Future. Where, at the end, Doc Brown runs a cable down from the clock tower he knows is about to be struck by lightning……… In order to send the power of the lightning down the cable and into the Delorean time machine…….. Allowing it to be sent back to 1985. You see, the Delorean famously needs two things to travel through time. It needs to be going at 88mph. And it needs 1.21 gigawatts of energy. Over the course of the three films Doc Brown found a number of ways to generate the amount of energy needed. Different methods. Plutonium to start. Lightning to get back to 1985. Household rubbish from Marty's bin at the end of the first film. And whatever is used in the train pushed Deloren and the Time Train (not explained I believe). Different methods of achieving the required energy levels. All perfectly valid. If they achieve the numbers needed. Ineffective if they don't. All equally effective when energy matched. That it is nuclear material, lightning or rubbish wouldn't matter if it wasn't achieving those energy levels. Like many eating approaches. Intermittent Fasting. Points. Different coloured days. Tracking. Portion size control. Meal plans. All potentially valid methods. If the energy levels required are achieved. Ineffective if they don't. All just ways to, potentially, create a calorie (energy) deficit. All work if they do. None work if they don't. All equally effective when energy matched. There's an old saying: Methods are many. Principles are few. Methods often change. Principles never do. The principle that needs to be occurring for weight loss is that energy balance. The method we choose to achieve that is up to us. But we always need to remember what principle needs to be achieved by our method(s) of choice. Much love, Jon ‘Weight has nothing to do with it' Hall P.S. Probably should clarify that is quote from the film as this is about (body) weight.
Look out, don't let the train get you. I'm kidding, there is no train. Unless. . . On a special, very sleepy episode John and Jeremy have a competition over competing. It's a little more specific then that but I don't wanna give too much away, ya know? Also, Don't listen to this one while operating heavy machinery or, like, weapons. This week on the podcast, we’re liberated from the prison of objective reality and have our minds scattered down a path of collective insanity that ends in us accidentally creating a movie called ‘Time Train’– as we watch the Power Rangers Turbo episode, ‘When Time Freezes Over’! Surprisingly, it’s a pretty good time. We answer questions like: should spaghetti be eaten casually at a juice bar? (No, most certainly not! Be cool.) When the world has the Phantom Ranger, does it really need the Power Rangers? (Not really, sorry-to-say-it-to-everyone-except-Justin.) And—is Clockster time? (Yessssssssssssssssssssss…!) So come check out some of that, if that’s the sort of nonsense that you’re dialling in for. It’s the Ranger Danger Turbo podcast!
