You may know them best for the songs they released in the '90s, but Portland rockers The Dandy Warhols have been going strong for 30 years, and have just released their 12th studio album. The new album includes collaborations with The Pixies’ Frank Black, Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Guns N’ Roses’ Slash. We talk to keyboardist Zia McCabe about the band’s legacy.

The Dandy Warhols have been around for 30 years. That can't be right! In the 90s they seemed like hedonistic little hippies and now, they still are, but the rest of the world has caught up with them. On the 15th, the band releases ROCKMAKER, their first fully guitar-driven album in a while (maybe ever) and they embark on a US tour this week. Zia McCabe joins us to talk about the new album, how the band writes songs (fans know their albums are gloriously all over the place), what it's like having David Bowie, Duran Duran, Slash and other huge names as supporters, her proud stance as a nudist, and a ton more. The Dandies have projected and lived by their life philosophy since day one. In a world where so many things change, it's nice to know you can rely on their version of unpredictability. Enjoy! www.dandywarhols.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
Last night was a late one – a big show at Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown, California, followed by the inevitable after party. Zia McCabe dials in from the passenger seat of the tour bus, slightly worse for wear, but sharp as ever. After nearly 30 years, the Dandy Warhols know the road like few others – and like even fewer, they're still committed to bringing it every night. McCabe joins us to discuss her journey with the band, family and life in real estate. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Zia McCabe tells us about blowing bubbles on David Bowie; how she fooled her bandmates into believing her newborn daughter was one of the roadies; and what it's like to star in a real-life mockumentary.
It's a massive thank you and welcome back to Zia McCabe of the Dandy Warhols! We talked so much in depth in Part 1 about formative influences, identity, skills and mindset that we couldn't possibly leave all unanswered questions about how this applies to Zia's musical creativity. So here goes: we're gonna go from how Zia became appointed to the position of Secret Agent McCabe to basically protect the band from any nonsense (and there's a dynamite story about how she did that with merch scammers)….to how collaborations with Massive Attack helped her creativity…and how music has helped her to believe in her ability to adjust and adapt to big changes in her life. These are 100% experiential observations that will help anyone who is thinking about their future direction in life. This was so much fun. Zia McCabe is an international treasure. A truly awesome, Vinyl Factory glasses-wearing, effortlessly cool, rock n roll veteran. She plays keyboards, percussion and bass in one of the legendary rock n roll bands…..The Dandy Warhols have always paddled against the tide, been firmly unconventional, firmly counter-culture, anti-pigeon-holing, yet always cool, treated experimentation as their slightly off-centre but “couldn't live without you” housemate and always followed their musical instincts. Hip shaking sonic rebels where you don't know what you'll get, but at the same time you do know what you'll get.And importantly…..Zia is also a qualified real estate advisor. If you wanna buy real estate in Portland, Oregon, go see A To Zia Real Estate. In this episode, we're talking about growing up, formative influences, finding identity, self belief, emotional intelligence, making the most of our skillset, bad car advertising…….and Lars Vegas.I Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is a music podcast that does music interviews differently. There's no better place to discuss the rigors of life on the road than in the heart of a tour bus—and we did just that, sharing the afternoon with indie rock mainstays The Dandy Warhols prior to their recent tour stop in Chicago. Zia McCabe and Brent DeBoer shared some of their pre-gig time to discuss their first concerts (including Nelson and the Beach Boys), the allure of things going wrong on-stage, Brent's move to Australia, and so much more. Plus, we dig into childhood memories, including the time Brent daydream-invented the concept of the music festival and the moment when Zia realized she wanted to be a performer: jumping onstage with a wedding band as a child. Head here for more info on The Dandy Warhols and their 2019 album, Why You So Crazy. Zia McCabe plays keyboards, percussion and bass guitar for The Dandy Warhols. She is a real estate agent, an activist and a damn good DJ (she goes by DJ Rescue). When she is not doing all that she sings in a country music band called Brush Prairie She is a busy person. But she did take time out of her incredible schedule to spend some time with PDXISH. Listen to what Zia has to say on everything from touring in Europe to cramming for a spelling bee.
On this Episode of Marti’s Music Kitchen, we are stirring up a batch of hot, hearty “Can’t Go Wrong Crockpot Chili,” with Zia McCabe, the synth, bass and percussionist for The Dandy Warhols. In addition, she’s also been “Saving good parties from bad music since 2001” as DJ RESCUE. “If you were relying on this to pay your bills, it’s so easy to zap some of that joy,” says Zia. “And that’s how I started to feel about music, is like - man, I want to play music, not work music.” Zia is one of the few musicians to dovetail the nightlife of being performing musician and DJ with the day job of real estate. Preventing the eventual burn-out of touring, and preserving the joy of all things music. How does she flip the switch from her on-stage persona to living a quote unquote “Normal” life? And why is Chili one of her favorite “easy” things to cook? Listen to check it out. The Dandy Warhols first met Bowie because he was singing along. It was Glastonbury in 2000, and the band looked to the side of the stage during their set to see Bowie and his band, in their black suits, belting along. In 2002, Bowie headlined the Meltdown Festival in London, and he invited the Dandies to be the first band since Lou Reed to share his stage. Then he took them on tour as his opening act. Then he came out to shoot pool and jam with them in their Portland warehouse, the Odditorium. In other words, the Dandies probably came closer into the orbit of the star that was Bowie than any other Portlanders. Band members Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Zia McCabe, and Peter Homlstrom told us what it was like to know the man.
