You've gotten the stop, pounced on a fumble, you're celebrating a key win to open up your conference slate. Only then do the officials huddle up, and without the benefit of replay, overturn the call originally made on the field and give the team which by all rights lost the game another chance. You'd be forgiven, perhaps, if it took you more than the customary 24 hours to get that emotion out of your system, to turn the page. If you were Hope, which had defeat snatched from the jaws of victory on Saturday afternoon, in a turn of events so unexpected that it has garnered 211,000 views as of this writing on our X account, you could be excused. But the Flying Dutchmen will show up for the 6:30 team meeting with head coach Peter Stuursma today and be asked to turn the page. No, the MIAA can't overturn the result -- they tried to with a basketball game back in 2001. Will the conference issue a statement about the officiating at the end of the game? They should. The answer to our question to the conference office came while we were recording, and you'll hear our reaction as the response came in, live. Coach Stuursma joins us to talk about the play and the aftermath on this edition of the podcast in Fast Five. Not the only big game, don't get us wrong. Patrick Coleman and Greg Thomas dive into the Christopher Newport-Susquehanna game, the interesting ways in which quarterback Josh Ehrlich and running back Rahshan La Mons were used, and the body language of the two teams down the stretch. And it seemed super likely that the Washington & Jefferson Presidents weren't going to start the season 0-3, and we look deeply at their game with Grove City from Saturday night. Plus, we'll take four your mailbag questions about the Top 25. Why do teams on bye move? What do voters do with Alma and Hope? Patrick and Greg Thomas hand out game balls, Logan Hansen talks about which conferences have a better than 70% chance of getting an at-large team into the playoffs, we go around each region for even more stories and much more in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

It's sad to think that we are already phasing out of Great Non-Conference Game Season, but at least it is leaving us with some quality memories. Yes, Mary Hardin-Baylor and UW-Whitewater still get to grace us with their presence, and so do Springfield and UW-Platteville, and Johns Hopkins and Susquehanna, but ... well, OK, we'll hold on for one more week. Meanwhile, the rest of the ranked teams got on the field this week in Week 2, as did the NESCAC, and Case Western Reserve managed to get through and finish a game. We'll talk quite a bit about the new quarterback situation at North Central, and how the answer was not really what people thought it would be, or thought they had discovered. We'll do the same with the quarterback situation at St. John's, and we dive into UW-La Crosse's first game as well as the opener for Bethel. Plus, with a number of non-conference games over and done, we'll take a suggestion from the mailbag and look at which conferences have surprised and which have disappointed so far through two weeks. The answers ... well, they might surprise you a little, some of them. We talk with Mount Union quarterback Mikey Maloney -- Patrick Coleman went out to Grove City to see that game with Mount Union in person, and has a glowing report and an interesting Fast Five subject. Plus, Grove City coach Andrew DiDonato reflects on what his team went through in the 49-14 loss and what he sees his team needs to do to take that next step up the Division III ladder.  Patrick and Greg Thomas hand out game balls, Logan Hansen talks about which games in Week 3 have the most leverage, plus we take mailbag questions about the season's first PAC showdown and whether it's necessary to Fear the Moose, as well as whether Great Lakes states Indiana and Michigan can join Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin as producers of Division III championship teams.  All that and more in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

Send us a textWhile we were on hiatus from producing episodes we had a number of passings that we want to comment on , both nationally, and locally here in the Myrtle Beach area of note. Over the next few days we will have two special editions mixed in with our regular series in order to honor these folks. In this episode we will look back at two people who were very close to me over the past two decades. Former Myrtle Beach City Clerk, Joan Grove , and former Surfside Beach Mayor Bob Childs. Two people who left an indelible mark on our small corner of the world here in South Carolina, where we produce these shows. Joan Grove was the City Clerk for two decades in Myrtle Beach, working with three different City Managers and four Mayors. She was the voice of the City Council every two weeks for our televised meetings as she read all the ordinances into the public record. More than that, Mrs. Grove was beloved by the city employees, elected officials, and residents alike. She took me under her wing when I first arrived as 30 year old councilman with no real travel experience to speak of and she made sure I got where I needed to be. We remained friends long after both of our time with the city was over. We will look back at her in this episode. Bob Childs, served in the United States Capitol long before he moved to Surfside Beach and ran for Council. He had stories to tell about every major figure of the last half of the 20th Century because he had served right beside them as they wandered around the Capitol. He moved to Surfside and became its Mayor, getting its finances in order, and accomplishing great things during his tenure. He was admired by all who knew him and we will be looking back at him in this episode as well. Finally, we will end this show as one of the most fun trivia questions of the age finally comes to a close. John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States who was born in 1790, and he had fifteen children. He had one of them when he was age 63. That son, Lyon Tyler, had a son at the age of 75. Harrison Tyler , who passed away  in June, was born in 1928, and he lived for 97 years. Which became one of the trivia worlds most fun questions. Who was the oldest living grandson of a President? The Tyler  family life spans over three generations that covers 235 years from 1790 to 2025. We will look back at the Tyler family tree as we bid farewell to a very nice man, Harrison Tyler, who I met one day while touring his home in Charles City County, Virginia.  Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

Meyer claimed that a car retrofitted with the device could use water as fuel instead of gasoline.Stanley Meyer died of a cerebral aneurysm. According to Wikipedia, this occurred on March 20, 1998, while he was dining at a restaurant. Some of his supporters believe he was assassinated to suppress his inventions. Now everyone in the playoffs has played at least one postseason game, or if you look at it another way, more than 60% of the playoff games are already over. And people are in a hurry to dismiss the WIAC, and they're in a hurry to crown NPI, because higher seeds have won 21 of the 24 games. (Of course, higher seeds have been at home in 23 out of 24 games, which might be a factor.) What did we learn from these games? Of the remaining high seeds, which ones improved their standing, improved their chances of going deep into this bracket, and which ones' chances are diminished? Patrick and Greg go through it all in this edition of the podcast. And most importantly, if the Texas Lutheran-Linfield game was dessert, what kind of dessert was it?  We hear from coaches and players involved in second-round games on Saturday, and we sit down with Johns Hopkins coach Dan Wodicka to talk about his team's heart-stopping finish against Grove City, their defensive prowess and their offensive adjustments as the season has progressed. Wodicka, who played for and coached under the late Jim Margraff, talks about how playing at JHU made him want to coach there, and reminds us how the program is carrying on Margraff's memory. Plus, who is leading the staff pick-em contest that is better known as Quick Hits? Stay tuned to hear about whose picks are doing the best, and to hear a tribute to his performance so far.

Hardin-Simmons came out of Saturday with another big, signature win, its second in as many weeks. The Cowboys keep exorcising those demons, this time coming up with their first win in Mary Hardin-Baylor's Crusader Stadium.  What's it like to have beaten Mary Hardin-Baylor pretty impressively but also know that that's a good team on the other sideline that you have to play again this season? Do you hold anything back in your playbook for a second meeting? HSU coach Jesse Burleson joins us to talk about that and a few other things on Fast Five.  Plus, of course, another week of wackiness in the WIAC, and we'll talk through all of that mess, as well as the big showdown between Grove City and Carnegie Mellon. GCC coach Andrew DiDonato talks about that key win for his Wolverines. We'll whip you through the big games in Division III from this past weekend. Plus, who's having fun in the 1? Who's looking for something new in the 2? Who's running free in the 3? Who's looking for to restore the roar in the 4? Who's looking alive in the 5? And, who's got something to fix in the 6? To see a list of all the teams talked about in this podcast, look at the list at the bottom of the post. Math Correspondent Logan Hansen talks about the three biggest playoff leverage games for Week 7, plus gives his usual snapshot for how those top eight seeds are looking. Has Mount Union crept into the Top 8 yet? Remember, this is based on projection of how the season will play out and of course, teams with harder schedules might have a harder time making the top eight because they might not actually win all their games. We also hand out game balls to the top performers, pick out the stats of the week, and run through region by region to get some of the other stories you might have missed. And since that never seems to be enough, Greg and Patrick have to pick one more region to tell one more story about on the fly. There's that and so much more in this week's podcast, so give it a listen! The D3football.com podcast is a weekly in-season podcast by Patrick Coleman and Greg Thomas, which was started in 2007. This series is about defining the vision and mission of Covenant Church in Grove City. We will touch on the heart of God, the need in the city, and the role of the church global. However, we will also get specific about the way in which our church body has a mission to reach our city. The plan for reaching our city begins by being a place where people can come in order to Know God and start a relationship with Him.  We will be a church where people who have a relationship with Jesus are encouraged to Grow in Community with their brothers and sisters in Christ. As we grow, we will help people to Discover Purpose  as they begin to see that they too have a role to play in the story of reaching our city and within the church. Our hope is then to challenge and release people to go out and Make a Difference in their world as they help people to get to Know God.

Pastor Dale Benson Are humans good or evil? The answer is not necessarily so black and white. Genesis 1:26-27 (NLT) - You are created in God's image! That is good! It is not good for Adam to be alone. Genesis 2:23-24 (NLT) - After creating woman, man and woman sin, it is not enough for us to be made in the image of God. - We want to be God. - You are a fallen human being - (That's not good.) Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28, 31-34, 37 (NLT) Our perceptions in relationships begin in the heart, and what we accept or reject begins in our hearts and minds. - Our perceptions and perspectives on these issues shift due to how the world views and accepts divorce as normal. Jesus points to the people in His day and acknowledges that Moses allowed the people to write a divorce paper, and apparently, that was happening a lot. Jesus says this is not God's desire. Divorce has become too acceptable. "It's just something that happens," or "It wasn't an option until it was." - We all understand that the act of murdering someone is actual murder, but when we lie, we murder the truth. When we commit adultery, we murder the love we have for lust for another. When we get divorced, we participate in the murder of a family. The family that existed no longer exists. When we often hear about Jesus, we think about love, grace, and forgiveness. This is a passage where Jesus seems to make the law harder. He moves us away from the actions we do (or don't do) and moves into the issues surrounding our hearts and minds. - We must be constantly aware. Last week, Yhoshua and Caleb showed us how Jesus taught us to pray, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." I don't think we really take this to heart. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us that our enemy is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." - Satan is sneaky. When you watch TV or social media, or anything else, deception, adultery, divorce, and any other number of heinous things are fully shown to us, with almost no restrictions. - The answer is not to put more laws in place to stop this. The Jews had laws. Laws don't change our hearts. We change them by constantly renewing our minds. This does not start when we are married. It starts when we are young. For those in your youth and teenage years headed to college, it takes allowing God to continue to shape you to be like Him. It is not about being evil or good. It is about reflecting God. - Pastor David quoted Jesus two weeks ago: "You are to be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect." We were created in God's likeness and image. We are not God. But we are made to reflect Him in all we say and do (outwardly) for the world to see. This work begins inwardly as soon as we come to know Him. Together, as individuals made in God's image, we come to reflect this God who created us in their likeness and image-to live in relationships that reflect the very relationship of the Trinity itself. The call today is to admit a few things. 1. God loves me, and He created me in His image. So, I am created good. 2. I do things I shouldn't because I have fallen and need a Savior. 3. I live in a fallen world filled with many other people like me. I must work on allowing God to help me be reformed, conformed, or transformed into His image. Your first step today is not simply to pray and ask God to forgive you and change your heart but to begin working on this in the community. This is not just an issue in our society. It is a huge issue in Grove City and the surrounding communities. If we are going to see change, we need The Naz to be the kind of place where we know that seeking help is not a luxury. It is a necessity. We want to create an environment where seeking help is valued even more than simply admitting there is a problem. As we model that, it will help others seek the help they need and share that help with others. We will begin to see the changes that need to take place in our world. Right here on earth as it is in heaven.

Today I talked to Donald Opitz and Derek Melleby about their book Learning for the Love of God: A Student's Guide to Academic Faithfulness (Brazos Press, 2014). Most Christian college students separate their academic life from church attendance, Bible study, and prayer. Too often discipleship of the mind is overlooked if not ignored altogether. In this lively and enlightening book, two authors who are experienced in college youth ministry show students how to be faithful in their studies, approaching education as their vocation. This revised edition of the well-received The Outrageous Idea of Academic Faithfulness includes updates throughout, two new substantive appendixes, personal stories from students, a new preface, and a fresh interior design. Chapters conclude with thought-provoking discussion questions. Read a review of the book by local bookstore owner and friend of the authors here. Donald Opitz (PhD, Boston University) is chaplain and senior director of Christian formation at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. He is the author of numerous articles and has worked as a pastor as well as a campus minister. Derek Melleby (DMin, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary) serves as a consultant with North Group Consultants. As the former Director of Calling & Career Development at Lancaster Bible College, Derek helped individuals connect to a sense of calling in their career. In that role, he served the student population, accompanying them on their journey to grow their self-awareness and develop the skills needed to make a positive impact on their communities. He has also provided executive leadership in a growth-oriented non-profit organization. Learn more about your ad choices.
