We are excited to share this “on-the-road” COBT episode featuring Tim Latimer, CEO and Co-Founder of Fervo Energy. Our team traveled to Milford, Utah, to tour Fervo's Cape Station project before connecting with Tim for an in-depth conversation. Tim earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tulsa and started his career as a drilling engineer in the Permian and Eagle Ford basins. He co-founded Fervo in 2017 after earning an MBA and an MS in Environment and Resources from Stanford University. Fervo is a developer, owner, and operator of geothermal assets. The company recently raised $206 million to advance the buildout of Project Cape, with phase one expected to deliver 100 MW of power to the grid in 2026. It was our pleasure to visit with Tim about the evolving geothermal landscape. As you'll hear, we were also joined by Kareem El-Sadi, Fervo's Drilling Engineering Manager, who brought valuable insights from the field. Huge thanks to all our new friends at Fervo for their hospitality and patience. We really had a blast. In our conversation, Tim shares the story of Fervo's founding, explains the fundamentals of geothermal, and details what makes Fervo's approach unique using deeper wells, horizontal laterals, and well stimulation. We explore the parallels between geothermal's recent progress and the shale revolution, as well as Cape Station's well specs, project economics and future cost reduction opportunities. We discuss how Fervo has dramatically improved dripping efficiency, cutting well costs from $13 million to ~$4 million by reducing the number of drill bits needed and decreasing total drilling days, the energy world's shift from largely skeptical to increasingly bipartisan and broader support, policy tailwinds, and Fervo's efforts to onshore supply chains amid steel and other tariffs. We cover geothermal versus oil and gas flow rates, design strategies for achieving high flow rates, water use efficiency, long-term production outlook, and overall “life of power plant” issues. We examine expansion plans for Cape Station, the leasing and mineral rights framework in geothermal, power plant design considerations including supply chain dynamics, permitting challenges and NEPA reviews, and project risk and learning curves from location to location. Tim shares his perspective on opportunities for geographic expansion beyond the Western U.S., cost curve and resource economics, commercial strategy and PPAs, near-term priorities for Fervo, geothermal's underrepresentation in no-emissions power conversations, the competitive landscape, whether being a pioneer is an advantage or disadvantage, and much much more. It was a fantastic discussion. Tim references a few items in today's conversation. MIT's paper entitled “The Future of Geothermal Energy” published in 2006 is linked here. Additionally, the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 is linked here. Mike Bradley kicked off the discussion by noting that bond and equity markets are focused on Wednesday's FOMC Rate Decision Meeting. Consensus expects the Fed to leave interest rates unchanged; however, if the Fed were to surprise with a rate cut, broader markets would initially surge before worry set in as to why! Turning to U.S. equities, while markets continue to post new highs, sentiment appears to have shifted toward a “sell the trade deal” mindset. This will be an important week for the Technology sector, broader equity markets, and electricity equities given that Apple, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft are all reporting results and investors are going to be listening closely to their projected AI spending levels. Mike also highlighted a major development in the transportation sector with Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern's anno

The Badgers are making headlines both on the field and in the courtroom. First up: four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit kicked off a massive week for Wisconsin's 2026 recruiting class, bringing elite speed and Florida flair to the offense. Just days later, four-star running back Amari Latimer followed suit, adding power and explosiveness from the Peach State. Together, they form a dynamic one-two punch that instantly elevates the Badgers' offensive future and pushes the 2026 class into national relevance. But that's not all—Wisconsin is also making waves off the field by suing Miami over the transfer of defensive back Xavier Lucas. The Badgers are alleging tampering and NIL interference in what could become a precedent-setting legal battle. We're breaking down the film, the fallout, and the future of recruiting and roster building in this jam-packed episode.Follow the show on Twitter: https://x.com/TheBuckyReportFollow Rajeev on Twitter: https://x.com/RajeevBadgersFollow Justin on Twitter: https://x.com/BuckyReportJJHelp The Bucky Report get some feedback! Welcome to Some Future Day. I'm Marc Beckman and today we're diving deep into the future of artificial intelligence with a visionary entrepreneur who's taking on one of AI's most pressing challenges: bias and racism. John Pasmore, founder and CEO of Latimer, recognized early on that unchecked biases embedded in AI could profoundly affect future generations. Inspired by the realization that his son and millions of others would interact with AI filled with implicit racial biases, John took decisive action to tackle these deep-rooted issues by providing training data that genuinely represents diverse perspectives. In today's conversation, we dive into why Latimer's unique approach - leveraging historical archives, textbooks, and dissertations from black and other overlooked cultures - is essential for an equitable digital future. Stay with us as we discuss the implications of biased AI, the ongoing fight for accurate representation in technology, and how each of us can help shape a fairer, more inclusive future, right here on Some Future Day.Episode Links:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jpasmoreInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jpasmore/Latimer: https://www.latimer.ai/Order Marc's new book, "Some Future Day: How AI Is Going to Change Everything"Sign up for the Some Future Day Newsletter here: https://marcbeckman.substack.com/To join the conversation, follow Marc Beckman here: YoutubeLinkedInTwitterInstagramTikTok

Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that still pledges allegiance to Heda Lexa. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) hangs out solo with Regan Latimer (@thereganlatimer), director of the documentary Bulletproof: A Lesbian's Guide to Surviving the Plot (@bulletproofdoc). We've talked a lot on this podcast about the longstanding BYG (bury your gays) trope in media and the “cancel your gays” version of today. The absolute slaughter of 2016 is what ultimately led us down the path of creating our own queer musicals with guaranteed happy endings and zero dead gays. Regan was inspired in a similar way, after one straw too many– the brutal killing of Denise on The Walking Dead. She decided to turn that outrage and pain into fuel for exploring the BYG trope, learning why these plot decisions are made, and even exploring the psychology behind why lesbian character deaths impact LGBTQ+ viewers so strongly. For Bulletproof, Regan spoke with filmmakers, screenwriters, passionate fans, showrunners, and television industry professionals about their experiences and perceptions on lesbian representation in the media. They wanted to look not only at where representation stands now, but at where it started and where it may be headed. When the pendulum for LGBTQ+ rights and societal acceptance swings in either direction, the media landscape reflects those changes. The few positive examples of queer representation we have on screen right now are as a result of projects greenlit before the pendulum began its broad backswing. Regan reminds us to enjoy the representation we have right now, to cherish the precious happy moments of Ellie and Dina while we still can. After all, the pendulum swings as society does; and we are at a particularly scary time for queer rights and acceptance, especially here in the United States. The real worry is about what types of projects may be getting greenlit right now, whose voices and stories are allowed to be told and amplified, and whether that push we saw after 2016 for more diversity in writer's rooms continues or is abandoned. We're already seeing more and more shows with prominent queer characters get unceremoniously cancelled– but it is not all doom and gloom. Even with queer rights and representation sliding backward, there remains more lesbian representation than we ever had growing up. With any luck, younger gays will never have to know what its like to not see themselves on their screens, even if the only representation left is, to Regan's dismay and Leigh's chaotic delight, problematic queer people on reality television shows. It's Wednesday, October 16th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Britain burdens parents with tax on private school tuition The U.K. Labor government will require private schools to charge a value-added tax on school fees starting next year. Christian schools are challenging the measure with the help of the Christian Legal Centre. The group warned “the policy will force Christian schools to close and deny Christian parents the right to give their children a Christian rather than a secular education.” Nearly 400,000 students attend independent faith schools in England, most of which are Christian. Andrea Williams with the Christian Legal Centre said, “It is unfair, and we argue, it is a breach of their human right to impose a value-added tax on such schools. [The] Labour [Party] must row back on this policy urgently. If they don't, we will have no choice but to pursue every legal avenue in the pursuit of justice and protection of independent Christian schools in this country.” United Kingdom getting its first Chick-fil-A Speaking of the United Kingdom, the nation will be getting its first Chick-fil-A locations according to an announcement from the restaurant last month. Known for its chicken sandwiches, Chick-fil-A is the third-largest fast-food restaurant chain in the U.S. It has over 3,000 locations across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada. The U.K. locations will be the first outside North America. Chick-fil-A plans on investing $100 million in the U.K. over the next 10 years, continuing its model of locally-owned and operated restaurants. Supreme Court rejected a religious liberty/COVID case Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a religious liberty case brought by a church. Grace Bible Fellowship had successfully challenged Colorado's COVID-19 restrictions on churches in 2020. The church continued its case though, saying that state health laws could be used against churches in the future. Despite the case coming to an end, a U.S. District judge noted, “That these statutes have been used in the recent past to adopt public-health orders that likely discriminated against religious activity is troubling.” Poll says Trump has lead over Harris in battleground states A new Harvard Center for American Political Studies/Harris poll found former President Donald Trump has a slight lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in battleground states. Trump leads Harris 48% to 46% overall in swing states. Trump also leads among early voters in those states. However, Kamala holds a slight lead nationally. Both candidates are focusing on the swing states ahead of the presidential election next month. 69% of adults have little trust in mass media Gallup released a survey on how much Americans trust political and civic institutions. Sixty-nine percent of U.S. adults have little to no confidence in the mass media, up from 49% in 2000. That makes it the least trusted institution. The second least trusted institution is the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. However, Americans were much more likely to have confidence in local and state leaders. Psalm 146:3, 5, says, “Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. … Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God.” Religiously unaffiliated Americans on the rise The American Bible Society released the latest chapter of the State of the Bible USA 2024 report, entitled “Nones – N-O-N-E-S -- and Nominals”. The study found 26% of U.S. adults are religiously unaffiliated -- up from 22% in 2020. The irreligious scored lower on the Human Flourishing Index than the average American, especially in the Meaning and Purpose category. Not surprisingly, practicing Christians scored higher than any other group on the Human Flourishing Index. Anniversary of martyrdoms of two English reformers And finally, today is the anniversary of the martyrdom of two English Reformers. Their names were Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley. Both were bishops in the Church of England. Ridley was born in 1502, becoming a great scholar and renouncing Roman Catholic doctrine. Latimer was born earlier in 1485. He became a great Reformation preacher, also rejecting Catholic traditions. His preaching brought Protestant teachings effectively to the middle and lower classes. However, a Catholic queen came to power in England in 1553. She was known as “Bloody Mary” for her deadly persecution of Protestants. After her ascension to power, Latimer and Ridley were tried for their beliefs and burned at the stake on October 16, 1555. As they faced death together, Latimer told his friend, “Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out.” In Romans 8:36-37, the Apostle Paul wrote, “As it is written: ‘For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.' Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, October 16th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Father Paul tells the story of two church leaders who were tried for heresy and killed, paving the way for the reformation of the Church of England.
One of the most progressive Democrats in Congress is now out of the seat. CNN projects George Latimer has now unseated Jamaal Bowman in a historic and bitter primary in New York's 16th congressional district. Pro-Israel groups had back Latimer, a moderate, and poured millions of dollars into this race. This race shows just how divided the party is on Israel's war in Gaza. Though to be clear, this election had a lot of other dynamics at play as well. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Judd Legum, proprietor of the Popular Information newsletter on SubStack, to discuss his recent piece entitled “Feds raid corporate landlord, escalating nationwide criminal probe of rent increases.” Then, he speaks with Usamah Andrabi, communications director & spokesperson for Justice Democrats, to discuss Rep. Jamaal Bowman's upcoming primary in New York and AIPAC's spending efforts against the Squad. First, Sam runs through updates on the UN's ceasefire proposal, continuing carnage in Gaza, GOP primary results, the conviction of Hunter Biden, slowing inflation rates, the US' disregard for Leahy law, more Alito-family leaks, North Carolina's mask ban, the permeation of microplastics, and Chiquita's liability for paramilitary action in Columbia, before watching the GOP attempt to spin the Hunter Biden conviction as yet ANOTHER attack on Donald Trump. Judd Legum then joins, diving right into the story, originally broken by ProPublica a few years ago, of RealPage's rent-pricing algorithm for landlords, and how the prevalent usage of RealPage in housing markets allows corporate landlords to eschew direct conspiracy yet reap all the benefits of collusion, from raised and fixed rents to artificial market constraints. After unpacking some of the finer elements of RealPage's “property management” software, Legum looks to the development of multiple major lawsuits against RealPage, including class-action suits in Atlanta and DC, unpacks the evidence that has come through discovery, and tackles the FBI's recent raid of a corporate landlord's offices in a major development to a criminal anti-trust case against RealPage, before wrapping up with a brief assessment of landlord liability in a federal criminal case. Usamah Andrabi then joins, jumping right into the incredibly Manchin-esque campaign of conservative “Democrat” George Latimer, and how his AIPAC-funded run to unseat Jamaal Bowman has gone well beyond just unconditional support for Israel, with AIPAC's pro-Trump funders pushing a full rejection of Bowman's progressivism. After expanding on the astoundingly bigoted and anti-democratic campaign being run by Latimer, Andrabi and Sam tackle the need for Democrats to step up for their colleagues in the face of overwhelming amounts of right-wing money, and what to make of the recent Emerson poll showing a major gap between the two candidates, before touching on what those of us outside of New York can do to help. And in the Fun Half: Sam unpacks the sustained anti-PC delirium in comedy, aided by Julia Louis-Dreyfus' recent response to Seinfeld's anti-woke ramblings, Brian from LA tackles the Daily Wire's new animated show and the arrested development of right-wing humor, and Maryellen from Newark explores the sale of West Bank properties in the US. Sam also unpacks dropping inflation rates with little-to-no impact on the continuing housing crisis, Kett from Portland gives some timely Latimer gossip, the Alito-family leaks keep coming, and Morning Joe has a guest on to ponder the validity of civilian deaths in Gaza, plus, your calls and IMs! It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma discuss the recent candidate forum between Rep. Jamaal Bowman & Westchester County Executive George Latimer, where Latimer made the claim that Rep. Bowman's constituencies were in Dearborn, Michigan and San Francisco, as opposed to the Bronx and Westchester. Then, they discuss the recent ceasefire resolution that passed through the United Nations (UN), and the strange, convoluted game of telephone that high ranking Biden administration officials like Secretary Blinken are playing when it comes to Hamas accepting a ceasefire deal (reports are that they've "said" they amenable to it) and Israel accepting a ceasefire deal (Netanyahu has not "said" that he's amenable to it; Blinken says it's the position of the Israeli government. They then react to some of the crime data coming from an FBI report, showing plummeting rates of violent crime, before getting into the bombshell undercover reporting by extraordinaire Lauren Windsor, who went undercover at a Supreme Court Historical Society event, speaking with Chief Justice Roberts (relatively normal), Justice Alito (more unhinged), and Justice Alito's, wife Martha Ann (the most insane conversation you'll ever hear). And in the Fun Half, the MR Crew discuss JD Vance's coyness around his position in the Trump veepstakes, despite being asked for documents and...whether he's committed any crimes or things of that nature (and that would be disqualifying, somehow)? They then react to Georgia congressional primary candidate and Jan-6th related convict Chuck Hand being asked a simple question about agricultural policy at a debate before introducing himself, completely ignoring the question, and walking off the stage. They then check in on Tim Pool waging the war on Christmas in...June, Steven Crowder and Nigel Farage having an idiot contest, and the...interesting mentions under a tweet from the account "AFPost" regarding polling showing less U.S. Jewish voters supporting Trump in 2024 as opposed to 2020. The "AF" standing for...America First can probably give you a good idea of the tenor of the replies to this tweet. (Hint: they're insanely anti-Semitic). Plus, your calls & IM's! The coelacanth was believed to have gone extinct about 66 million years ago, until one was spotted in South Africa in 1938.
